It was spontaneous plan and decided to visit, it was on the list of wine passport. They have two flights 5 pours for $10, 7 pours for $14. (Thought they could pour a little more per serving...) My favorite was Pino Gri, crisp and refreshing, and Cuvée, deep aroma and clean finish. Nice backyard like space in front of their vineyards, you can bring dogs, throw a birthday party, and can do nice picnic on weekend afternoon. It is close from the city, and perfect way to pass time with friends and family for sunny afternoon.

I popped in for a tasting and we had a lovely window seat with a view. The staff was so friendly and informational. I liked several of their wines but the the Pinot noir rose, was so yummy. I'd pop in again.

Amazing wine tasting paired with a deluxe charcuterie board

Very pleased to find this place for my girlfriend and I while on our anniversary weekend staying in Forest Grove. On the drive up to the winery in the hills was very breathtaking. Pulling up to the house was also amazing with the views of vineyards all around the main house. We made reservations prior to arrival and when we got there we were promptly seated and served our wine and charcuterie board. We were able to sit and relax and enjoy our wine and enjoy the beautiful view of the rolling hills of vineyards all around us.

My first visit to David Hill Winery was easily one of my favorite tasting room experiences of the many I've had in Oregon. Good wine at affordable prices, charming tasting room, warm hopsitality, beautiful setting. Details follow. SETTING: The winery is named for it's location off David Hill road which was named for one of the area's early settlers. Setting is beautiful with vineyards surrounding and picnic tables on a lawn behind the tasting room. Easy to find with GPS. TASTING ROOM: The tasting room, which is in an 1830's old house which was salvaged and renovated to be the same, is bright and welcoming. Fully accessible. If you can't navigate the stairs in the front, there is a ramp in the back with an accessible parking spot across. One of the two loo is accessible too. TASTING SET UP: Uber friendly, charming and knowledgable hostess (Carrie) led us through the tasting. The set up for tasting here is my favorite of formats in which you can choose from a selection of wines those which are of most interest to you to try. Much prefer this over a "fixed card" sampling. In this case, the options are any of the wines made by David Hill (with perhaps the exception of a single Pinot Noir reserved for wine club members only) and for only $5 you are able to taste seven wines. Made all the better by the fact the wines are delightfully good. Even remarkable in the case of two of the seven tasted. WINES: My husband's and my favorite of the seven wines we sampled was the 2009 Blackjack Pinot Noir ($55). So named because it comes from the vineyard's Block 21. (Get it? Of course you do.) We think this is arguably the best of all 2009 Oregon Pinot Noirs we've sampled including those made in the Dundee Hills. We enjoyed all the wines sampled and the ones in the lower price points (around fifteen bucks a bottle as I recall), a blended white called Cumberland Vineyards and a blended red called Farmhouse Red are a great value for really good wines. The white contains a good share of Pinot Blanc, one of my favorite white varietals which is starting to be bottled as a single varietal in other parts of the Willamette Valley (with Four Graces perhaps producing the stand out of that varietal) and which I hope David Hill might also bottle as a single varietal eventually because in the blend it was distinct and delicious. Other standouts were the Reserve Merlot, no kidding...the varietal is making a comeback now that "Sideways Effect" has worn off and a Port of Muscat ($28). The latter was apricot - caramel, delicious and just sweet enough but not too much. (They were sold out of the Port of Pinot Noir but no worries.) We who like Port are fortunate that David Hill (and nearby friendly competitor Montinore) sends their port wines to be fortified by Clear Creek Distillery in Portland. In everything is connected to everything else mode, having that fabulous distiller in the mix is an excellent thing for Port quality. All David Hill wines including, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gerwirtztraminer, Merlot, Temperanillo, the blends and Port are proof that a vintner can make really good, drinkable wines and keep the price point within reach for everyone. They even have a Pinot Noir around $20 (others in the $35 - $55 range). THIS N THAT: 1) WINERY DOGS: Three delightful winery dogs, a Golden Retriever, an Australian Shepherd, and a Catahoula mix are on hand to greet visitors. Two of the three are featured in the Winery Dogs book available to purchase in the tasting room. This is a great tasting room experience all on its' own, but the delightful dogs make it even better! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/david-hill-winery-forest-grove?select=R7KgJu52VLiCBSS_80dPog#R7KgJu52VLiCBSS_80dPog 2) SIP & SHOP: The tasting room has some interesting wine centric "gifties" for sale in local-ish food products (jams, nuts, cheeses and so on) and otherwise (cookbooks, bottle corks, glass drying towels, soap and so on). Highly recommend the Seattle located Boat Street Pickles pickled figs - think balsamic syrupy pickled. The tasting room hostess recommended them and they are outstanding. Gift giving occasions abound. Pick up some great gift items and a bottle of wine to go with them and you can call your shopping complete while you get to taste some great wines in the tasting room. Everybody benefits!

If you want to take a nice drive out in the country outside if the Forest Grove area you need to include a visit to David Hill Winery. In the summer months the gorgeous surroundings alone are reason to come here, and the wine is the icing on the cake. Some of the Gewürztraminer vines here were planted in 1965 making them some of the oldest in the state. That carries over to great wine! The tasting room, which is located in an 1883 farmhouse on the property, is open 11-5 daily. Yes, there has been wine production on this property off and on since the 1880's. The customer service in the tasting room could improve a bit. I have been here several times and the people working here could be a bit more friendly. The wines currently are Rose, Pinot's, Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Tempranillo, Merlot and they even have a couple Ports. They do offer cheese, sausage and crackers for sale if you forgot yours in case you may want to grab a bottle and picnic on the beautiful grounds. Enjoy! 2015-116

The drive out to Forest Grove from downtown Portland was gorgeous. The vineyard is nestled away in the country and in the middle of farmland. Such a rare sight these days but so worth the drive. The tasting room is bright, beautifully lit and filled with a lot of history. The hostess was friendly, inviting and held a conversation with ease. We left with two bottles of Riesling and wish our luggage could fit more!

This place was very beautiful! We came early on a Friday so there wasn't a lot of people. The wine was splendid. The charcuterie board was very delicious. The only thing is the tables were so so small. To fit everything on 1 table was impossible. But overall the experience was good, worth the drive.

This was an absolutely amazing experience. The winery is very elegant, the staff was welcoming and the views were breathtaking. Highly recommend, this was a very pleasant surprise.

The farmhouse white and reds were an especially good bargain - both $10 and really yummy for an everyday wine.

This is one vineyard that's a short drive, and not very difficult to get to for being located in Cornelius. No long and windy roads is what I'm implying. An easy vineyard you can show out-of-town guest what Oregon wines are all about. I feel this would be a quick treat for them. Even after work, just to relax with a glass and charcuterie board, we've been here! ~ The Views (or a view) ~ If you've seen the yelp pics on the views, then that's exactly all you'll get. You can chill inside for a tasting or out on the patio while enjoying an excellent view of the vineyard. On a clear sunny day, you can see Mt Hood in the background. Down below the patio, at vineyard-level, there are a few wooden beach chairs and picnic tables as well. It's relaxing wherever you choose really, to say the least. ~ Reds, Whites, and You ~ If you're looking for a white chard that's not too sweet, then this is your place! Their wines are simple enough to enjoy. I don't recall having a bad pour. But like practically every vineyard in Oregon, they too serve pinot noirs. I personally have more of an earthy pallet, so I do not have a taste for pinot gris or rieslings, but theirs I did admire. You'll have to try them for yourself. Again, I believe all their variations can satisfy anyone's pallet. ~ Owners, Staff, and Service ~ At one of the member events, we did get the opportunity to meet the owners, and their pup. All of them really down-to-earth people in my opinion. But I would like to give credit to Mach and Melissa as well. These two hustle! Not for you to just purchase their wines and join the club, but they're attentive on what you'd be interested in. Thank your Mach and Melissa for your generous and friendly hospitality. We've had questions, they've had answers. This little winery just gives you everything you'd expect from a winery. Case and point!

My usual M.O. with sake is a small, hot carafe when I have sushi. But my experience here has made me rethink this incredible beverage. I opted for the Daiginjo flight, which I highly recommend. Daiginjo is the best form of sake, with the process polishing down the rice grain to 50% or less of its original volume. The ones I had ranged from 40% to 50%. I'm not sure exactly what this does, but I can sure tell you, it makes a massive difference in the smoothness and taste. The first 3 sakes in the sampler are from Japan; the last is their exclusive sake made right in Forest Grove. Here's my take on the sakes I had: The Murai Family was aromatic and slightly floral. The Hakutsuru: smooth, slight fruitiness, subtle, with an interesting aftertaste on the back sides of my tongue. The Yoshi No Gawa was smoother with a slight tang at the back of my tongue. And last but not least, the in-house Nagata had a nice balance of bold, silky, and fruity/floral. I even admired its "legs" as I did a swirl to see viscosity. After the flight, I decided on a cocktail, the Blackberry Lime Martini. Tart, sweet, deliciousness. When I left, I bought a bottle of Sho-Une, which didn't break the bank, but is supposed to be great for the price point. I'm saving it for a special occasion. I'm looking forward to visiting this fine establishment again.
