This restaurant is fascinating in the way of presentation. The decor radiates a fine dining aura;…read morewhereas their dress code is rather casual. Hence the term "casual fine dining", which is the most accurate way to describe the ambiance of Cedars Steaks & Oysters. Though the staff may be dressed far nicer than their patrons, the menu still mostly lives up to the casual fine dining standards one can expect. Mostly. Up front, I will say there was nothing I actively disliked. It's just that certain items could have been better. So, let's start with.. The bread basket: packed with 3 or 4 kinds of bread, wifey and I mainly enjoyed the pretzel biscuits. Warm, savory, buttery goodness is how I'd describe these. Intriguingly, they were presented with two flavors of butter: traditional and raspberry (yeah, raspberry). I couldn't tell you how the latter tasted because....it was partially frozen. Hard as a rock. I normally never bother commenting on something as benign as bread. However, the butter situation alone was far too bizarre and comical not to mention. 7 out of 10 overall. New England Clam Chowder: Since we're literally IN New England, I won't expend too many words on this one. Creamy as all get out with nice big pieces of clam, but lacked some seasoning. At least this restaurant grants us the courtesy of leaving salt and pepper on the table so...8 out of 10. Sherried Lobster bisque: Plenty of sherry flavor throughout the broth, limited actual lobster pieces (if any), but quite tasty. There was only one problem: the bisque was lukewarm on arrival. Not sure if it's always served this way or if it just sat too long at the pass. Either way, it seems like a rookie mistake. I'm sure it's normally better, but I gotta go with first impressions here. 7 out of 10. Prime rib: Okay. Full disclosure here - I'm a pretty harsh judge of prime rib due to being incredibly spoiled by this one place we used to frequent down in El Paso, TX. Let's just say the greatest prime rib we've ever tasted was seasoned generously with hot au jus on the side and the meat itself was tender like butter. Cedars got 1.5 out of 3 of those points. The prime rib was seasoned fine. The au jus was about the same temperature as the lobster bisque. Yet the meat itself....was tough to slice. It wasn't quite the texture of a tire or anything. But I would hardly be exaggerating if I said I was cutting each morsel for what felt like ages. Also, this thing is friggin' HUGE! Which meant by the time I got about two-thirds of the way in, I was pretty much full. Overall, not bad - but not really the GOAT that it should have been. 7 out of 10. Steak fries: These things! These are by FAR the best steak fries I've tasted in a long time! We're talkin' crispy golden outside with soft, steamy innards; not to mention, brilliantly seasoned throughout. 10 out 10, these are the gold standard of steak fries. I actually wanna try this place again, only I'm totally getting the Day Boat Scallops next (which are described as truffled lobster risotto, for some reason). In hindsight, I should have gone with this initial instinct. As it stands, I'm giving Cedars Steaks & Oysters 4 gigantic prime ribs with golden crisp steak fries out of 5.

Junior's Restaurant & Bakery - Foxwoods

So, uh....Junior's Restaurant & Bakery (not to be confused with Junior's Coffee Bakery just outside…read morethe lobby) is a casual sit-down dining experience which seems to emulate a decor crossing between Denny's and Whataburger. I realize I'm probably the only one who will ever make that comparison, but I'm sticking with it. Picture cozy booths but with the color orange. I think it's also safe to assume the majority of folks come here for breakfast. Ergo, that's what I'll be reviewing today. The menu is what you'd expect. On this day, I was in the mood for an omelet. Small caveat upfront for anyone with the faint of stomach: their omelets are composed of 4...possibly 5 eggs! On top of that, they STILL allow you to order one with an extra egg, if you wish. Crazy! :o I played it safe and went with a standard ham & [cheddar] cheese omelet. And like....here's the thing: proper omelet etiquette calls for shredded cheese, regardless of what type. The reason for this is so that when you fork your way in for a bite, the cheese doesn't stretch on for ages like one continuous string that won't quit until you chop it off with a knife (or perhaps a machete). What I suspect they did was either used long strips of cheddar or (perish the thought) stuck a couple of whole cheddar slices into the omelet and called it a day. Needless to say, it makes the whole eating experience hella awkward. Taste wise, it wasn't bad at all; though, it could have benefited from a bit of seasoning. 8 out of 10, be sure to enjoy with a knife. The sides were...fine. Honestly, the homefries and corned beef hash (which we'll talk about in a sec) were arguably among the best. Whereas that toast...*sigh*. Guys. Why are restaurants so petrified of copiously buttering toast? Shoot! I'll even settle for quasi-copiously buttering. Now, one reviewer claimed the corned beef hash (which is made fresh) suspiciously tasted of the canned variety. And honestly....I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing. See, I have this thing with homemade hash. Most of the renditions I've tried consist more of a brisket type textured corned beef; which either tastes over seasoned (I can't even believe I'M saying that) or seasoned strangely. For instance, the homemade hash I tried up at the Market Place Diner in Hollis, NH tasted like ranch for some reason. But, I digress. This hash was more of a minced meat texture that had a bit of subtlety to its flavoring which I can appreciate. Unfortunately, the side (which is over 10 bucks, btw) is not meant for one person. This portion could easily serve 2...maybe 3 persons. Eh, far as homemade versions go, 9 out of 10. And of course, the Mimosa was heavenly. Wanna know what really surprised us though? The coffee. I honestly thought we were about to be presented yet another pathetically weak breakfast blend most diners serve. But no--this coffee was bold in a way that would make even the likes of the Starbucks CEO go, "Jolly good cup o' java, ol' chap!" Service was sublime. My only other minor complaint is...the pricing. But really, it's to be expected of a restaurant that operates in conjunction with a resort. I guess I expected like, a near fine dining level of breakfast food for such prices. On the plus side, those $16 Mimosas include the entire small bottle of champagne. You just gotta ask for a little more OJ after your first glass. Weird. It's an innocuous little joint I wouldn't mind dining at upon future stays. Albeit a little pretentiously priced, I'm giving Junior's Restaurant and Bakery at Foxwoods 4 of the hugest fluffy ham & cheese omelets out of 5.

There's something about seeing the cooks working the line that adds another layer to the experience. It feels lively, energetic, and authentic. We started with a variety of appetizers because, honestly, everything on the menu sounded amazing. First came the bread service with two olive oils. The bread was light and airy, with just enough chew, and it soaked up the oil and sauce like it knew exactly what its job was. Next up were the meatballs, served in a rich tomato sauce with ricotta and shaved Parmigiano. The meatballs had a unique flavor thanks to the sausage mixed into the blend. They were tender, savory, and deeply satisfying. The sauce was chunky and well-balanced, just the right touch of sweetness without tipping into acidity. We also ordered the arancini, which came crisp on the outside and packed with umami flavor, helped along by the truffle sauce. One bite and you understand why these little rice bombs are such a classic. And then there was the cheese board, a nice variety that gave everyone something different to pick at between bites of everything else. For my main course, I went with the Pork Chop Giambotta. The pork chop was grilled beautifully, tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It was topped with a giambotta, a rustic Italian stew of vegetables that included fingerling potatoes, sausage, hot cherry peppers, vinegar, garlic, and onions. This dish hit every note on the palate, sweet, savory, tangy, and just enough heat to keep things interesting. One of those plates where every forkful gives you a slightly different combination of flavors. It was a great meal, made even better by sharing it with family. The chicken was ehhh, the Mongolian beef was not crispy like how I typically have it; I felt like it was beef stir fry with alot of onions. I had to look for the meat pieces under all the onions. The pork belly actually had great flavor and paired with the eggplant was delicious. This was probably my favorite dish we ordered. I would not be coming back I had better authentic Chinese food . David Burke Prime may be taking the cake currently for my favorite decor and tenderist steaks we've ever eaten (though some of the other items could use some significant work, more on that later). But first, the decor and atmosphere. Our host walked us by the famous three-story wine cellar, which you can actually see the top of on the upper floors of the casino, and seated us on booths with a covering that resembles cow fur. We also got to gaze at the dry-ager, which can be seen as you wait to get into the restaurant, which was a very cool display. We started with some complimentary house-made bread, which had the beautiful lightness of a croissant; buttery and perfectly salted. For appetizers, we ordered a French Onion Soup ($19) and the Double Cut Maple Bacon ($21). The French Onion Soup had the perfect balance of the natural sweetness from the caramelization and the saltiness one expects and demands from a good onion soup. It was also topped with frizzled onions, which was a perfect addition. The bacon, on the other hand, was beautifully seasoned with a complex flavor that combined maple sweetness with a smokey, peppery undertone which had great depth and was quite delicious. On the flip side though, this bacon was VERY tough, almost resembling shoe leather in texture, albeit an extremely delicious piece of shoe leather. Our entrees arrived. We ordered the Prime Rib (16 oz for $59, which came with a baked potato) and the "Angry Surf and Turf" ($59) which included a 6 oz spicey fillet mignon with a shrimp scampi (served with whipped potatoes and green beans). We also ordered a side of Short Rib Macaroni and Cheese ($14). Some VERY big highs and a few lows with this meal. First, all meat was PERFECTLY cooked, and some of the most tender meat we've had anywhere. The fillet was aggressively seasoned and had a delicious kick, and my prime rib was FORK tender, although a pinch of salt could have taken it from great to perfect. On the "surf" side of the surf and turf, however, the shrimp was raw, and I mean RAW. Our waiter handled it well and gave us an entirely fresh shrimp scampi, which was cooked separately the second time, but it was pretty jarring to see such perfect proteins alongside raw seafood. However, the lemon butter sauce was delicious, that accompanied the shrimp. The mac and cheese side had short rib that tasted delicious on its own, and maceroni and cheese that tasted delicious on its own, but mixing it up would have completely obliterated any and all cheese flavor because the barbeque flavor was so sweet and pronounced. The balance was not there, and the two components did not belong together with this execution. However, we finished the meal with a Tiramisu ($14) that had beautiful thin layers, with a perfectly sweet and velvety mascarpone flavor. The only thing missing was the dusting of cocoa powder on top, but was an otherwise perfect ending. At the end of the meal, we received a complimentary cotton candy, which my wife loved (though I'm not personally a cotton candy person). David Burke Prime is definitely a winner with the beef, but if you're headed there, stick to the beef in your selections. read more

We decided to try David Burke on a recent trip to the casino. We were greeted by a friendly team of hosts. My husband and I sat at the bar while we waited for the other 2 people that were joining us. Trish and Leslie were very helpful and accommodating. There was an extensive drink menu and wine list. It was hard to make a decision. There were so many we wanted to try. We were sat when our friends arrived. Our server team Brian and josh had awesome recommendations for dinner they explained the dry aged beef they offer. Almost all of us had to have it. We had to start with oysters and the bacon. The oysters were so delicious we added more. The bacon comes out hanging on a line. So creative! It was so thick you had to cut it with a knife. The best bacon ever!!! The Kansas city was juicy and tender. I had mine just the way it was. My husband had it topped with butter poached crab legs something that's not on the menu but they were so great to make it happen for him. Our friend tried the special with seared scallops. He said it was out of this world. Our other friend is not a red meat eater; she found plenty to fill her. Having the king crab legs were the perfect dinner with sides. Brian and josh kept our drinks full the whole dinner and were vert attentive without being intrusive. We were all so full, but brian sold us on the donuts. House made they came o it hot and with sauces dunk them in. The perfect way to end the meal! We dont get to enjoy a meal of this caliber very often. We were so pleased that the entire experience was outstanding!!! read more

My recent visit to this steakhouse was an absolute delight from start to finish. From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance exuded elegance and sophistication, setting the perfect tone for a memorable dining experience. Now, let's talk about the star of the show - the steak. Oh my goodness! The steak I had here was truly a cut above the rest. Cooked to perfection, it was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor in every bite. The chef's expertise in sourcing and preparing the meat was evident, and the result was a culinary masterpiece that left me craving for more. The sides and accompaniments were equally exceptional. From the decadent loaded baked potato to the perfectly seasoned sautéed spinach, each element on the plate was a testament to the culinary prowess of the kitchen. The attention to detail extended even to the presentation, which was as visually appealing as it was delicious. The service was impeccable, with a knowledgeable and attentive staff that catered to every need. The recommendations for wine pairing and dessert were spot on, enhancing the overall dining experience. This steakhouse isn't just a place to eat; it's an experience that celebrates the art of cooking and hospitality. Another excellent meal Partner and I eat here about twice a year, and it's always a special occasion, because the food is wonderful and the service is impeccable. This evening was no exception. Our servers were Julie and Marcus, and they were both excellent. We ordered from the Prime Time Menu (3pm - 5pm most evenings). Partner had clam chowder, which he said was excellent; I tried the clams casino for the first time - there were six of them, and I could have eaten twice or three times as many. Partner had prime rib for a main course, which was well-cooked with next to no gristle and only a slight amount of fat; I had the 6-ounce filet mignon, cooked rare, excellent. Partner was served a baked potato which was one of the largest potatoes I've ever seen; we actually shared it. It was delicious even without butter. Dessert was apple tart with ice cream for Partner and creme brulee for me, both wonderful, with two double espressos.. Julie brought us cotton candy for afters. Another memorable meal. It's not inexpensive, but the Prime Time menu is only $39 for three courses (appetizer / main / dessert), so it's really a pretty good deal for an excellent and well-presented meal. read more

Excellent steakhouse - started with a superb Ketel One dirty martini at the bar, then we were seated by the very gracious maitre d' at a great table. The dining room is very lovely- modern, plush, nice comfy chairs, roomy, tables are well spaced. We started with a lobster cappuccino that was so incredible it defies description- it was topped with such a great foam that lasted. Oh wait, actually started with some of the best popovers I have ever tasted- I used to rate the ones from the now defunct Yankee Silversmith in Wallingford CT as the absolute best; these left them in the dust- bigger, fluffier, so yum. Then platters of seafood- king crab, oysters, lump crab meat, huge shrimp, sauces, really good-looking stuff. I don't eat that stuff, but I can appreciate the fine look of the product and the pleased expressions of my dining companions. Main course- short rib stroganoff, 75 day aged bone in ribeye, filet mignon (my favorite), garlic spinach, mac and cheese and french fries- everything was so delicious! The meats were cooked perfectly, served beautifully, all the sides were fantastic. I left before dessert, I hear I missed some great selections. Next time. read more

My recent visit to David Burke's Steakhouse at Foxwoods Casino was a mixed bag. While the ambiance and service were commendable, the dining experience fell short in some aspects. Upon arrival, my wife and I were seated at a less desirable table, but we understood the need to maximize capacity. Our server, however, was exceptional, engaging us in conversations about steak preferences. Despite high expectations, my steak did not live up to the hype. The salt aging and grade were promising, but the execution left something to be desired. On the brighter side, the bacon appetizer was delightful, and the beets were a standout dish. However, the house pinot noir was disappointing, leading my wife to opt for a Moscato, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The meal concluded with an unexpected touch of cotton candy, which, while annoying to me, delighted my wife. Overall, while the service and ambiance were top-notch, the quality of the meat and our table location left much to be desired. Considering the experience, I may explore Gordon Ramsay's establishment next time, as at least there's confidence in consistent meat quality for the price across his other locations. read more

"Coming right up, Foo!" So then I settled back in the comfy barstool and looked around the chic steakhouse. The lighting was subdued and the waiters were pushing large butcher carts of Tomahawks and Porter Houses. Folks were laughing and all you could hear is cutlery and glasses clinking. "Macie?" "Yeah Foo?" "How does this place always seem to get it right?" "Practice Foo, practice." "Ah so, then can you practice by making me another cocktail?" I am never disappointed when I visit this restaurant. Came back for the first time since the pandemic on Saturday. The atmosphere was just as I remembered if not better. I spoke to one of the managers, Terrell, he was very welcoming and professional. Will be returning soon! read more

Honestly how is this place even open anymore? Can only be because people drank too much gambling and came in here. The only thing worse than the food is the attitude of the staff. Save yourself the trouble and just go over to any other restaurant, actually don't go run!!!!! read more

Michael Jordan's Steak House - Mohegan Sun

The whole experience at Michael Jordan's Steak House was absolutely OUTSTANDING!…read more We started our evening at the bar with a few drinks -- an Espresso Martini and Jordan's Crush -- and both were delicious and the perfect way to start the night. For dinner, we ordered the garlic bread and Flight 23 for Two, and WOW! The garlic bread is an absolute MUST -- do not come here without ordering it! But the steaks were the real star of the night. They were on another level -- perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. This was probably one of the BEST steaks I've ever had! Everything from the drinks to the food, atmosphere, and overall experience was exceptional. If you're staying at Mohegan Sun or even just visiting for the day, Michael Jordan's Steak House needs to be on your list. We will absolutely be back! 10/10!

Ate at The Bedford on the weekend for lunch. Given Martha's reputation, it seemed like it might be…read morea nice place to try. First a word about the atmosphere. Spacious, open, immaculate if somewhat cold. It was not busy. Most of the tables were open. We were seated in the back with a clear view of the kitchen. The kitchen was two tier with a front serving counter and a back preparation area. So far so good. The server was attentive, polite, & provided a well informed rundown of the menu. However, after that things went downhill. We were able to watch the kitchen at work. The cooks exhibited a lack of urgency with the pace of the kitchen at best described as leisurely. We ordered two of the short rib burgers with Parmesan potatoes. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. As a general rule of thumb, I expect to wait 20 minutes or so for a meal after the order is taken. We waited for 40 to 45 minutes before our food arrived. During that time period, we watched a mismatch between entrees and side consistently taking place. A sandwich would appear in the warming area and sit there for an extended time waiting for the accompanying fries to be prepared. At one point, we watched as two short rib burgers were placed in the warming area awaiting pickup. At last it appeared that our food was ready! However, it sat there for ten minutes before a side of fries was prepped and one of the burgers was taken by a server to another table. There was a wait of another ten minutes while another burger was prepped and then a further delay while the Parmesan potatoes were prepared. Finally, our server picked up the two burgers (one of which had been sitting for some twenty minutes) with the Parmesan potatoes and brought them to us. Unfortunately, one of the burgers was not as ordered. We had ordered them with no lettuce. One of them (apparently the one just prepared) had lettuce on it. This would have been a problem if this was an allergy item. However, after notifying the server, I simply removed the lettuce and pressed on. It would seem that the two burgers that sat in the warming area were ours and that someone else received my burger When a server took one along. With the order of fries. To her credit, the server brought the manager who, although I said we didn't want anything for letting him know about the matter, still removed that meal from the bill and provided a free desert. Overall impression: Slow service, leisurely kitchen, lack of quality control in terms of order check and delivery, no noted communication between kitchen and servers as to which meal was ready. Quality of food: Decent, with good size portions for the price. Average appetites will box leftovers to take home. Bottom line: Expect to wait. Check your food for accuracy. Reasonable prices. Attentive servers who spend much time waiting on the kitchen. Gracious manager who didn't seem surprised when things weren't right. Good but not great food for lunch. Delicious large desert (the chocolate cake). Would I eat there again? Perhaps. It is less crowded, less noisy, and less expensive than Hell's Kitchen. However, I might just go to the excellent Italian place (Buon Appetito) down the road and save myself the irritation of what appears to be the standard of service at The Bedford. With Martha's reputation, I expected more.

There is large tree in the center of the space that immediately makes you feel at ease, as if entering the garden at an Italian villa. The lighting is muted and the interior is tastefully modern with leather chairs and white tablecloths. Our server Corina was very friendly and welcoming, answering our questions and making us feel at ease there. They have a nice selection of wines by the glass as well as bottles. We had Mascarelli montepulciano and Whispering Angel rose, both very good. I also had a Bourbon Peach Smash, a peach-y version of an old-fashioned that was tasty and refreshing. We started with burrata - amazingly fresh creamy mozzarella served with crostini, "cherry bomb" tomatoes and aged balsamic. Great way to start the meal! For our mains, we had chicken parmesan (extremely fresh and tender chicken & mozzarella with a hearty red sauce) ordered with a side of broccolini and their pork chop (grilled, red chimi, fingerling potatoes) - a thick and tender chop that was one of the best I've ever had, and the red chimi added a delightful little zing to it. For dessert, we ordered the affogato (wonderful vanilla gelato drowned with expresso at the table) - wonderfully decadent and delicious.
