Fish Sandwich

WHAT??? WHY??? After growing up in and spending so much time in New England how did I find the world's BEST fried scallops on top of a PIZZA while sitting at a bar near the Coast Guard Academy? I almost didn't want to write this review because I don't want anyone else to know. Consider me shocked! Honestly, I was disappointed when I saw that the scallop and bacon pizza came out with red sauce. I was a little grossed out. I never imagine that combo. I was thinking it would be a white pizza but I guess I didn't read the menu. But, I picked one of those scallops off the pizza and I no longer cared! I immediately removed all the scallops off the pizza and into my plate so that my partner (who ordered the fish sandwich) wouldn't get any! Thee juicy, tasty, succulent deep fried circles of joy had my eyes rolling in the back of my head and looking at my calendar to see when I could make time to come back for another meal of just the scallops. I ate them all except two, which I'm begrudgingly let him try. I didn't even want to try his fish. "I don't care what that tastes like, I've achieved mouth nirvana over here." After collecting myself, I did try the pizza, which by now was just bacon and DAMN! It was some quality bacon! And a ton of it. The pizza was good, too. (Although I bet it would have been good as a white pizza all together...just saying.). I guess the clam pizza is white. We did reheat the pizza the next day and it was still awesome. More typical New England style Greek pizza, but not as crunchy/hard/tough/dry edged as most of your basic "House of" places. I also heard that the fish sandwich was fresh and delicious. Whatever. I'm #TeamScallops. We sat at the bar, it was Saturday afternoon, 10/29/22, and I'm sorry to the lovely female bartender with the gorgeous mane of dark hair because I can't remember your name because I would hire you in an instant! She has a great personality, an eye for when you need something, good timing and that particular New England quick "hustle" that is a rarity in customer service these days! She's accommodating but I bet if the locals got out of hand, she could take care of it herself. YOU ROCK! This will become our first go-to when we are in town again. The service is great, the beer is ice cold and I don't know who Mr. G is, but you all made him very proud! Cheers!

The bread from the pizza...no toppings. All bread!

I am very disappointed in this place. Been around for a long time and the food and people are the same. They have not advanced or changed to the world around them. No wonder everyone in the place is overweight, unhealthy and I could hear their arteries clogging as I waited for my food! The pizza was all bread and no toppings or cheese. Cheap, greasy and disturbing in taste. The "buffalo wings" are not buffalo wings. They are small and all breading! I'm sure the oil they were cooked in is as old as the joint! No need to waste your time unless you are unaware of any other decent places nearby. Even then, go to a different town and get fast food. You'll thank me later.

The host and our server were were cordial, nice and friendly. We got some nice warm breads to start the meal and some free green salads that came with our dinners. The Chicken Ornella, the Chicken Piccata, the Bolognese and my wild Salmon were all very well made. Fresh tasting, homemade pastas and well prepared. For dessert we all shared a delicious Bread Pudding....YUMM.... This is a great place for a meal in New London, check it out. Free parking in the back of the restaurant. A parking lot that lead to the main dining area through a set of steep stairs. The entrance on Broad is street level.

The waiter did not do a good job of coming to our table to check in on us, drink orders, and refilling our waters. This time I tired some of the lamb chop which was cooked well and tasted amazing for an appetizer. For the main entree this time, I had a special which was a halibut with a linguini pasta. The fish was cooked pretty good and so was the pasta (al dente) however the sauce that it was served in was quite bland. Definitely a letdown with the sauce which made me not finish the pasta. If they nailed the sauce with something savory and complimentary to the fish, this would've kept the high praise review. Overall, this experience was unfortunately a letdown with the food and staff/service, probably a bit of an unfortunate choice in meal and poor waiter for my table. Hopefully my next visit which will be in the far future is better. Food(50%): 6.5 Staff/service(25%): 4.0 Value(25%): 5.0 Overall: 5.5/10

Therefore, I will need to revisit to give a better review. I visited The Blue Duck this past Monday, on Presidents' Day at happy hour. I got there around 3 and left just before 5. The wings were 5 for a little over $5 or something like that. Which honestly $1 wing in this economy! Excellent for my pockets. Anyways, the place was quiet, a few people did start coming in as I was leaving, and again, I came on a Monday. Not really a peak bar day. But I would say the location is near the water which is a plus. The seating area at the bar was massive. I'm curious to see how busy it gets on the weekend. This isn't necessarily and instagramable/ social media picturesque kind of spot. Ok, so the wings- I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH- they were AMAZING . I love it when the skin after being smothered in sauce is still crispy. And they were! The blue cheese wasn't liquidity or too chunky. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The best part- for me- is that they were the shoestring kind of fries. I'm not big on the steak fries or thicker cuts. They were salted just right! No condiments needed for dipping. I ordered two drinks, which I honestly wasn't too impressed by. But it's my bad. I probably should have stuck to shots or basics like A sour of some sort. Idk. The other drinks could be delicious. Overall the only reason at this point that I'm coming back is the wings. Truthfully, the only reason I traveled 45 minutes to New London was after seeing an IG post about all-you-can-eat wings on Mondays. Sadly they aren't doing that anymore.

It was delicious and there was a good amount of lobster meat in it. It was nice and buttery, just the way I like my grilled cheese. It was my first lobster grilled cheese and really enjoyed it. When the burger finally arrived we sent it back because it was well done and charred on the bottom. We reordered the hamburger medium rare again. It took forever for the burger to be delivered to us. However, it did come medium rare this second time. I ordered clam chowder and the color of it was an appetite killer. The was extremely salty and I sent it back. I also ordered clam cakes. They had the most unusual flavor that I have never experience before at other seafood places. The cake had very few clams and was doughy. Not appealing at all. I managed to take one bite out of one cake and left the rest to be discarded. Two of us ordered lobster rolls. Mine was a "cold" lobster roll. I found a piece of ice in the lobster. For the price of the roll, $32, the amount of lobster was somewhat scant. The mac-n-cheese we ordered was the only highlight of our meal. It was rich and creamy with a wonderful mixture of cheeses. The waitress was very accommodating and pleasant. I am rating this restaurant 2 stars because of these two pluses! Otherwise, would be one star. It is safe to say that my party and I will never return to Sellfish again!

Family-Friendly Atmosphere * The lively, casual vibe makes it a great spot to bring kids. * Staff were welcoming and attentive, keeping the energy upbeat without feeling overwhelming. * The décor leans into the Western theme, which adds a playful touch for younger diners. The Famous Buns * The complimentary rolls with cinnamon butter are always a highlight. * Fresh, warm, and consistently delicious--they set the tone for the meal and never disappoint. Steak & Ribs Selection * The menu offers a plentiful variety of cuts and rib options, giving diners flexibility depending on appetite and budget. * Steaks were cooked close to the requested temperature, with a nice char from the grill. * Ribs were tender and flavorful, though a touch more smokiness could elevate them further. Other Notes * Portion sizes are generous, making it easy to share or take leftovers home. * Sides are hearty and classic, though not particularly adventurous--mashed potatoes, fries, and salads are reliable but standard. * Noise level can get high during peak hours, so families with younger kids may want to plan for an earlier dinner. Overall Impression Texas Roadhouse is a solid choice for a casual night out, especially for families. The buns remain the star of the show, while the wide steak and rib selection ensures everyone finds something satisfying. It's not fine dining, but it doesn't try to be--it's approachable, fun, and dependable. Cheers

Despite being attached to the Marriott, this restaurant currently feels completely disconnected from any standard of hospitality. The service was the primary issue. While our initial server was adequate, the older server who brought our food was unprofessional. She delivered the wrong meal a wilted Caesar salad and a "goopy" flounder instead of the salmon that had been ordered. She implied it was either our mistake or her colleague's fault. Worse, she took the incorrect dish back but left my short rib on the table. No one offered to keep my meal warm, and by the time my companion's food finally arrived, my dinner was cold.
