Very yummy!! Got a few sandwiches here today for lunch. Mine was the chicken #1 on focaccia. I liked the bread but it was a little crispy (like the kind of crispy that cuts the roof of your mouth), this could be solved with possibly not getting it grilled! I loved how the chicken was cut up and all of the condiments were distributed equally throughout the sandwich. The system there is really cool. They have a payment station outside if you call your order in you can pay right there and they bring your food out to you! I'll be back to try more from their extensive sandwich menu and more things from inside the cute little shop!! read more

This spot had been on my radar for awhile, but it took me several visits to Boston to actually make it here. Am happy I finally succeeded, though like so many things in life, the experience wasn't quite what I'd imagined: You see, for some reason, I pictured this as a Beantown version of the NYC-style Pork Stores you tend to find *mostly* in BK and Staten Island. For the uninitiated, these stores aren't as pork-centric as you'd think, and often feature a variety of meats, along with prepared foods, sandwiches, cheeses, breads, Italian ingredients, and fresh and dried pastas. Stepping into one of these shops offers an old school glimpse of NYC that is getting harder and harder to come by. Alas, Dave's is more reminiscent of new NYC than old, with its steep prices and unwelcoming, stick-up-the-butt vibe that we encountered up close and personal with staff people that refused to crack a smile. But hey, I was here to score some custom-cut fresh pasta... So yeah, I went with some Lemon-Basil Pappardelle, (5ish per pound), which was cut much more narrowly than I'm used to; almost like a slightly wider Fettuccini. This kind of bummed me out and it was hard to get past, but it tasted perfectly fine. Also got some Sausage & Fennel stuffed Ravioli (10ish per pound). The grumpy counter woman tried to convince me that a pound would feed just two, rather than our family of three, but I wasn't having it. I stuck with a pound and there was more than enough. And happily, the Ravioli was delicious. I was especially into the Fennel-forward filling, which was a nice change from the subtle, ricotta dominant Ravioli fillings I'm used to. Space is tight here, especially at the Fresh Pasta 'Window,' where I waited for my noodles to be cut. Between that and the aforementioned cranky aura, I had no desire to linger. So am not entirely sure what else this shop offers. Bottom line: While I can most definitely buy more affordable, quality custom-cut fresh Pasta in NYC, I appreciate the creative flavors here. I can't say I'll go rushing back, but am sure I'll return at some point. read more

YUM. I've lived somewhat close by to DFP for the past 2.5 years and have never tried it until yesterday, and I now realize how much I've been missing out. I only tried a sandwich, but the fresh pastas, sauces, and other deli counter items for takeout looked amazing, and I can't wait to check off more sandwiches on my list. I got the DFP steak and cheese, which was such a fantastic choice. Normally I don't really care for cheesesteak style meat because it's all chopped up, but this meat is actually sliced grilled steak, nothing like the crumbly pieces or presliced lunch meats that might've been refrigerated for ages. It came with caramelized onions, mayo, cheddar, and just the right amount of hot peppers that added a nice spice, tang, and crunch. Holy wow! My Cuban sandwich here was just perfect - bread-to-filling ratio spot on, acid-fat ratio on the dot, and crunch-chew ratio exactamente. You could really taste each ingredient, and the portion size was huge too! The store itself is a foodie wonderland with everything you could ever want - biscoff spread, gourmet chocolates, a prime selection of hot sauces, and everything pasta! I entered with only the intention to grab a bite but came out with an armload of fresh noodles, sauces, and cheese. Dave's is one of the gems of Davis Square. It's pretty much a one-stop shop for anything food- or wine-related, and a great place to go for lunch. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable, and happy to help with anything. If you're a pasta person, this is your place! They've got a crazy good and creative selection of different types, my personal favorites are the squid ink linguine and porcini fettucine. Their whole-wheat linguine is probably the best I've ever tasted. They do change up the menu as well, so there's a good variety. You just tell them what type you want, how much of it and the style you'd like it cut, and they take care of the rest. The freshness can't be beat, and It also freezes well. They've got a specialty grocery store with lots of cool stuff to browse, as well as some prepared foods. Their sandwiches are excellent as well. However, I always get the Hippie Salad with grilled chicken - it's a huge garden salad with sunflower seeds and tahini dressing, and you can get grilled chicken put on top of it if you'd like. They also give you a free piece of thick, crusty bread, which is amazing when dipped in the dressing! It's a huge portion and you could easily get two meals out of it. They offer catering, and we've used them several times at our company functions with great results. There's a wine club that looks interesting too. The only drawback is that it's a small place, and it can get very busy and crowded at lunchtime. The lines of who's already ordered and who's waiting to order can be confusing because there's limited space. It's also on the pricier side, but it's well worth the extra money for the quality you get. read more

This is basically the only provisions store I need. It has everything I want to be eating, all in one spot, and the pasta alone would make it stand out as a 5 star spot. I got saffron pasta (which is fresh cut to the shape you select, right before your very eyes) and ate it with some of their sage brown butter. Jesus, I felt bougie. Super love it! We went here for the sandwiches, and I had a bite of the arugula and goat cheese one on brioche. We probably wouldn't get the brioche again b/c it was too sweet for that type of sandwich. I had the spinach lasagna which was HUGE so I took the rest home. I absolutely love Daves Fresh Pasta - from the fresh pasta, gourmet groceries to the sandwich counter their food is amazing. My girlfriend and I have ordered sandwiches from the sandwich bar numerous times. I love the grilled chicken: the chicken is juicy and flavorful with bread that is crispy on the edges, but soft in the middle - the perfect sandwich bread. Whether we call ahead or walk-up and order, our sandwiches are usually ready in 5-10 minutes, and are always served warm and fresh. Despite exclusively using Comic Sans in their branding, these guys have incredible taste. Unassuming from the street, this place is an absolute gem and I always discover something else amazing about it each time I go. First and foremost, the fresh pasta and sauces are incredible. Couldn't be easier or more delicious to grab ingredients for a meal here that's both quick and gourmet level. I love to cook and I deeply appreciate their amazing selection of fresh ingredients in small amounts- pancetta, guanciale, duck confit, herbs, fresh cheeses, you name it. So rare to find a place that lets you buy just enough for your recipe. Some of the stuff is a splurge, but they also have some great buys. Their homemade chicken and mushroom stocks are delicious and incredibly cheap- $3-4 for a big quart of the good stuff. They have a shockingly excellent selection of obscure wines with helpful staff to advise your picks. They also recently started stocking Jeni's, the best store bought ice cream ever! Like others have said, it can be a bit of a mad house, but the staff is amazing and keeps the line flowing. Love supporting this amazing local business. read more

I'm visiting from California, and I wanted to impress the lady-friend I'm visiting with a "cooked meal". What ended up being a pickup for ravioli turned in to a lunch spot as well. Lunch: The sandwich was on point and, judging by the crowd they pull for dine-in lunch and take-out orders, I would say many would agree with me. The Brie and fig played perfectly off of each other, and it helped that they use some high quality bread for their sandwiches. Ravioli: I have never had "fresh ravioli" before, and the fresh ravioli here lived up to the hype. A pound of ravioli and pasta sauce set me back 15 bucks, and was more than enough food for two hungry people for dinner. The price point worked for me, as well as the quality of what I tasted. They have so many pastas and raviolis to choose from as well as pasta sauces, which means there are so many more iterations and combination that I need to try! All you have to do is follow their simple instructions on boiling the pasta and ravioli, heat up your sauce, and you are good to go! The artichoke and arugula sandwich could have used a bit more veggies, but was essentially a v good adult grilled cheese. My son invited me to this sandwich place and I went so eager to try their food but I was so disappointed with the service before I even had the chance to order. The service was so bad, the gentleman that took care of us had such a bad attitude that I jut turned around and left. There are so many good places to eat in Davis Square and you decide to go to one of them to be treated the way I was treated is so disappointing. Finally went here for the first time. Got the italian on whole grain. The sandwich itself was pretty good but not great. I could tell the ingredients were fresh and tasty, but it was kind of small. The price at 14 bucks after tax was a little much but I'm kinda cheap. If I pay 14 bucks for a sandwich I expect it to be both really big and really good. I am still drooling over the sandwich I got three weeks ago when I visited Dave's Fresh. I got the hangover sandwich which has mortadella, provolone piccante, red onion, dill pickle, hot peppers, and mayo. A pasta lover's dream. When you walk into the store, take a right and you'll be in pasta heaven with all the fixins - blocks of delicious cheeses (they have samples!), a whole open fridge dedicated to tubs of various sauces from spicy marinaras to oh-so-divine cream sauces. At the counter, you can order fresh pasta made on the spot (lots of different kinds to choose from) and cut to your liking from linguine to fettuccine to pappardelle (there are more, I can't remember them all). For a dinner party of 6, 2lbs of pasta will do you good (the guy recommended this amount and was right on point! - we still have leftovers from the 2 lbs alone). I opted for 2.5 lbs of pasta: pappardelle cut plain egg noodle at $4/lb, cracked black pepper pasta at $4.25/lb and as an extra, a little bit of spinach pasta at $4.25/lb. While I opted to make a white wine garlic butter sauce at home as an option, I stocked up on Dave's amatriciana sauce, which was very tasty. It had the right amount of spice and was all around flavorful - wouldn't have known if they didn't have a sample out! Their arrabiata sauce is great, too! There's also a heart stopping lemon wine cream sauce somewhere that they put out for sampling at one point that's not bad either, although I don't remember the name. Doubtful you can go wrong with any of the sauces really! Dave's is a sweet local grocery shop! They have frozen pasta, some fresh produce (although kinda pricey), a wine shop and lots of exotic snacks and condiments for palates in need of adventure. I've only ever had one sandwich here and it was good, but dare I say it? It wasn't the mindblowing experience everyone was telling me it would be (one of the roast beef ones with horseradish) - it needed something and I can't tell what it was. Sandwiches are typically $10. There is no discernible way for you to order if you come in when there's a crowd. Just go to the person who's NOT the cashier to put in your order. I plan on returning for more sandwiches and am awaiting that moment when you realize you can't live without that sandwich being a regular part of your existence (when that happens this place is only going up!). The fresh pasta section has already wedged its way into my heart. Customer service is typically friendly - they have lots of staff on hand to help you whether it's at the deli, fresh pasta section, or if you need help choosing a wine. If you wanna treat yo self, Dave's is a solid choice. 4.5! read more

Did a wonderful job catering a variety of types of dinner food for our son's wedding in June, including vegan bride and vegetarian groom! All of the food was fresh, nicely presented and great quality which guests commented on widely. I've used them before and never disappoint. Highly recommend Dave's for all types, sizes and locations in catering! This is the cutest little sandwich shop with so many local ingredients sold in their small grocery section. Be warned though that the line can get long so definitely not worth the risk if you're in a rush. The fig and prosciutto sandwich and the chicken pest are my favorites, but I also love the caprese. The focaccia bread is incredible but sometimes runs out later in the day. It's a small place so sometimes better to order for pickup or just wait outside until your food is ready.
