My kids and I discovered Dave's Cosmic Subs while visiting Ohio from Denver. As a vegetarian I'd been having trouble finding good, quick meals, and was blown away by this place! I had no idea about their menu, and we only stopped in because my kids wanted a meatball sub (which they haven't stopped talking about). The staff walked me through all the options and I tried one of the "chicken" ones (with Gardein protein) on his recommendation. It was honestly the best sub I've ever had! Everyone working there was great, especially Victor, who was so kind and helpful. We will 100% be going back before we head home. Steak sandwich is a rip off. 28$ and lacking steak. Bread was the only thing keeping this from 1 star. C'Mon do better.

No food and this still have my money!!! On September 7th, I put in an order for two gluten free subs. I was called and informed that they didn't have any gluten free bread. I told them to cancel the order. About 30 minutes later I got another call asking if I could pick up the order later in the day I explained that I could not because we were from out of town and were just going to pick up the subs on our way and asked again that the order be canceled. I was told I needed to come in for a cash refund. I told them that was impossible because I was on my way to Columbus over two hours away. I was told she would call me back. I finally got a call back and was again told to come in for cash or I could get the order the next day. I again said they needed to just cancel the order. She called back a third time saying she found out how to cancel. I originally placed my order through incentivio I stayed on the line as she "canceled" my order. This required my credit card number etc. She said she sent me a receipt. When I stopped I found she had actually placed a new order through the Toast Local app. Order #27. I called on Monday 9/8 to explain the error (somehow the incentivio order did canceled in all this) and asked for the Toast charge to be reversed. I was told it already was and that it would take 3 days. The manager wouldn't listen when I said that it was a new charge on a different app. I called back on Friday when the charges were not reversed. I was again told there was nothing they could do and asked to come get cash. We repeated the I live out of town conversation. I was asked if I had Zelle. I told him no but I had Venmo & PayPal. He said they only had Zelle, but he was in talks with the owner & they would find a solution and would call me back the next day. There was no call the next day. I called back today. He told me they were "waiting for an answer." I asked for the email of the person who was "figuring out" the refund. I was to hear back in one hour. Well of course I have not heard back. So a week later I am still out almost $40 and there is no resolution in sight read more

Great vegan meatball subs with vegan cheese! Just ask them to toast it for less than the normal 3 minutes or the bread gets too hard.

I was out and about doing some shopping and I worked up an appetite. I called the husband and asked the eternal burning question of "What's for dinner? " After naming off the options that were close by, we decided to give Dave's another try. I got the #16 veggie burger hot sub with Dave's cosmic sauce instead of the spicy mayo. It was tasty and the bread was fresh and not too crusty this time around. I got the #23 turkey ham hot sub with horseradish sauce for the hubby. He devoured it and said it was impressive. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They are still a bit pricey, though that's to be expected. It was $25 easy with 2 subs, 2 chips and 2 cookies, no drinks. With that said, I guess that Dave's is back on our radar for places to go when we want to splurge a bit. read more

Tried this place for lunch. Staff were welcome and had positive energy. Tried the Turkey sub. Excellent selection of chips and drinks as well. Quick service. Sub was very fresh. Good flavor. The bun was great. Enjoyed the sauce or dressing on the sub. Wish there was a little more meat but that may just be my preference. read more

It was well after lunch when we stopped by and the place was empty. The guys at the counter gave us a friendly greeting and a moment to look over the expansive menu. Lots of sub choices other goodies. I went with the Original Dave's Cosmic Sub The large sandwich was actually two smaller sammys combined. I would have liked to take a pic with an uberwich. The Italian loaf was a fresh combination of flaky crust and soft, chewy bread. The sliced meats were delectable and savory, which was complimented well by the fresh veggies. I especially liked the mild bite and crunch from the banana peppers. And the dressing aka Dave's Cosmic Sauce? Kinda reminded me of Italian salad dressing, but not too oily. I absolutely love their food but the last couple of times I ordered them via DoorDash, I was greatly disappointed. About a month ago I ordered a sub for dinner with chips and what I thought was a bottle of Dave's Cosmic sauce so I could use it at home and give a little more support for a locally owned business. Instead, I got a small dressing container of it even though I paid $5 for it. I sent a direct message on Facebook and they read it, but never responded back. I wasn't even requesting a refund, just some clarification that that was what I was supposed to have gotten and more of a suggestion for the employees to pay a little more attention in the future. Still, a response would have been nice. Tonight I ordered a sub for dinner as well as a sub for my lunch tomorrow. The sub I ordered for dinner was the pizza sub. I know that this is typically served open-faced but I assumed for deliveries the sub would be closed. I was wrong. And because it was served open-faced, the cheese completely stuck to the foil and I wasn't even able to scrape it off with a knife so essentially I had a sub with sauce on it. I figured it would be best to bring my experience here, given that it's already been made clear to me that trying to reach out privately does nothing. I still have no problem giving them my business, I love their food, but it's important to be attentive to your customers, especially in a time like this when small businesses are struggling as it is. Reaching out to touch base, acknowledge their feedback, and perhaps take extra measures such as using a different type of wrapping or a non-stick spray can go a long way and make a difference in whether or not your prospective customers have a good first impression and your loyal customers remain loyal. read more

We ordered three subs. The steak, Ruben, and The Crazy Dave. The two subs were fine nothing wrong. The crazy Dave I ordered hot, with jalapeños and extra sauce. It came cold with non of the extra I asked for. It was to far away to drive back. I was very disappointed they were not that busy so you would think they could do that right. read more

My son and I like subs and we decided to stop in here for lunch. They have a bunch of hot and cold pre-menu item subs that you can order by number but special ordering seems to slow the process down a tad bit. **************** There is a lot of "memorabilia" in there (think hard-rock cafe on a budget) and much is grateful dead/janis joplin related. Wisely most of it does not appear to be original but copies of. I ordered a turkey dave, w/o banana peppers, hot and my son only wanted to have turkey, lettuce, black olives and cheese, cold. We threw a monkey wrench into the works I fear. As we waited...and waited....and waited...at the 15 minute mark we got an apology from the fellow making the sub that he was running a little behind...if so, how did the people who ordered after us get served, eat and leave before we were served? My sub was unremarkable. The bread was just a little crunchy...either stale or spent a little too much time getting heated up. It was okay, but not a place where I'd cross three lanes of traffic to go to. That coupled with a pretty pricey sub you aren't having lunch w/ a drink and chips for under $20. Went to your Mentor Location. The girl with purple hair making our food was not wearing her facemask properly. With her nose exposed. I asked her if she wouldn't mind putting her mask on properly while making our food, and she got an attitude. She then loudly announced she would take her time making our food saying "Now they can wait". She was extremely rude. Put myself and my family at risk by not taking proper precautions. I am truly disgusted. She then proceeded to talk loudly about us while waiting. I didn't even eat the food at this point and I will never return to this location. Great place to grab a quick sub. I only spend maybe 3-4 minutes as soon as I open the front door and order my sub to the time I walk out the door. I grab the Italian with hot peppers and it's amazing. Only thing is the bread, not sure if it's always supposed to be super hard but only thing that I find somewhat negative. This place constantly delivers a solid experience of great food, incredibly friendly staff and choices that you can't be bored with. The Far Out Chicken (with a side of Blue Cheese) is something I crave like an addict...there is no explaining it as its a basic concept however the delivery with crusty bread and hot oil - banging! Add a bag of Jalapeño Heat Diirty Kettle Chips if u aren't a wuss. Please be considerate as the dining area is small - don't take a 4 top for just you - sit near the drink cooler. This is hands down one of my favorite places in Mentor. Not only are the subs beyond tasty, but the owners really make customers feel welcome. I've been a customer at Dave's for about 6 months and everyone who works there knows us when we come in - they even know what substitutions to make on our subs! Great subs, loyal customer, but they're pricing themselves out of the market. Just ordered a large sub which my 4 month old menu says is 10.99, pricey as is. When I picked it up it was 11.99, and I'm thinking I had an old menu. When I picked up a current menu it also said 10.99, so I said wait a minute, why am I charged 11.99? The guy behind the counter explains that the printer screwed up the prices. So why would you not explain to that customers when they order? And why would you not at least hand correct the menus? They seem to continue to do a brisk business but I have to predict their downfall if this is how they do business. read more

I'm usually one to write a review about just food, but the service here was terrible. The blonde cashier was ( obviously miserable)and intimidating. Instead of promptly welcoming me and taking my order, she made sure to scream at the girl actually MAKING the subs about something really minimal... Multiple times. Just discovered this place tonight and I will be back! A bit of a hippy, 70's theme going on with the decor, but some good jams coming off the sound system. I got a couple sandwiches to share and try. The roast beef/horseradish sandwich was okay, but the turkey/avocado sandwich was really tasty and I like how they include a pickle with your order. What made my experience really great was how friendly and patient the two staff members were towards me when I had no idea what to order. Prices are higher than a chain place like Subway, but I would say the food quality and friendly staff are worth the little extra. read more

Looking for a negative and can't think of one. Agree with past reviews, efficient and friendly staff. I like the classic rock memorabilia. I get the original Dave's sub, bread is soft and crusty, meat is sufficient, other toppings in proper proportion, Dave's sauce tasty. I get the large which is actually like getting two sandwiches. My wife likes the turkey Dave. Larges are $12 and change. Don't be afraid of the stoner dorm room feel when you walk in, these guys know what their doing. read more

I was so excited to find Dave's in Mentor. I'm in the area for a short period, and I did a yelp search to find somewhere good to eat, and, lo and behold, here's a Dave's! You know how there are restaurants that you hold near and dear to your heart? Places that you wish you could take with you when you move out of town? Dave's Cosmic Subs has been that restaurant for me for the past couple of years. I lived around the corner from the Dave's in Cleveland Heights for a few years, and then I moved to Columbus and dreamed of opening a franchise just so I could eat the Veg Out whenever I wanted. Good bread -- crusty on the outside, soft inside. Plenty of meat (Original Dave's) and lettuce. Dave's sauce a little overwhelming, and the packing is less than ideal. The meat all ends up folded into a U on the outer edge, the lettuce & sauce piled up inside. I prefer to get a mix of both in each bite. Wish they'd have sides; all I could see were chips. read more

I love the Veggie Burger sub, it makes me giddy with joy! The staff is friendly and funny. The owner and delivery guy are pretty hot! Then again, I am a horn dog, but I digress. The subs are made fresh with fresh ingredients. The price is moderate, but the quality trumps the price. Also, they deliver until 4. Which, helps a lot because it is hard for me when I am work to go get the subs, because I don't have a lunch break. It is awesome! I recently had the Veg Out sub at a Dave's downtown. I ordered it from Mentor for pick up tonight. First they gave me the wrong bread. Next the tomato salsa-like topping (from the one downtown and pictured on the website) was missing completely AND the lettuce was iceberg not romaine. These differences are huge and made the one from Mentor really bad. So disappointing. Mentor definitely needs to step up their game! read more

This is an amazing place to get subs. Seating is a little limited on busy days, but the atmosphere is great and the staff is helpful and friendly. I'm from Mentor, but moved away, and make sure to stop in every time I'm in town. And even with months in between visits, they remember me and my order. Buy their sauce and great, unique pickles to go, but nothing beats the fresh-from-the-grill sandwiches. read more
