We were looking for a great greasy burger so we decided to give Dave's a try. Upon entering we had to wait several minutes while the staff finished their conversation before they took our order. I ordered the bacon, jalapeno cheeseburger and fries. I wanted to try the onion rings but after being told they were frozen, I decided on the fries. The meat patty on the burger was clearly something they had made on site, very tasty and moist. The bacon was nicely crisp and a generous portion. The jalapenos were fresh jalapenos instead of the usual pickled and out of a jar. This touch added a bright flavor to the tasty burger. Visual inspection of the fries yielded ordinary looking fries. The great surprise came when you tasted one. They season the fries with a secret seasoning mix of salt, sugar and other seasonings! It was delish!! I'm only giving three stars because the place wasn't up to standards on cleanliness. The floor was sticky and the tables had not been wiped clean. read more

One of the best burger places I've ever eaten at in Waco. I got a bacon cheese burger with fries and my mother got a hamburger with onion rings and sweet potato fries. The burger it self was well seasoned and flavorful but seemed a little dry. The fries, onion rings, and sweet potato fries were probably the best I've ever had in my relatively short 18 year old life. They were nice and salty, well seasoned, and had just a hint of sweetness. We stopped here on the way back to Fort Worth from Austin. I picked it based on Yelp recommendations and was not disappointed. The joint is a few blocks off the interstate and was easy to find and get back on the road when were done. I was traveling with my husband and 13-year-old stepdaughter we each had a hamburger and shared a large order of fries. The fries were thicker cut and their seasoning was quite tasty. If you like a salty sweet taste don't skip the seasoning. The place is fairly new and clean and the service was friendly. I would stop again if I'm passing through and want to good burger. read more

Only thing to complain about was the service, girl taking the order was good but the others woke up on the wrong side of the bed, if I was the owner I would give some attitude adjustments or fire someone... The food was excellent! Great burger and really good fries. The cashier on the other hand was very unfriendly! No "Welcome to Dave's!" She didn't even look at us until after she took someone's order out to them. This would have been the perfect burger joint, had they had a friendlier, more welcoming cashier. read more

While road tripping with my Renegade Run Club we can upon this yummy burger place. Burgers were juicy and had that good grease taste. Surprisingly the French fries were seasoned with a but of sugar...it's a matter of choice. Some in my group loved it, others chose not to eat them. Sweet Potato fries were tasty tasty:) read more

Best Burger in Town! Dave's has homemade style burgers and fresh cuts fries that makes it a great place to eat at. The atmosphere is a great place to be at and the customer service is wonderful. Highly recommend trying the Zipper Ripper challenge if you want to have fun watching someone beat the challenge. They have a new trailer and second location opening up soon, so that tells you business is great and people love the food! read more

I was in Waco for work for a few days and was wanting a good burger. I came across Daves Burger Barn on Yelp after many attempts at other burger joints much closer to my hotel that all closed by 6:00 or 6:30. I read several reviews ranging from awful to fantastic, so I didn't really know what I was going to get. As soon as I walked in there was a bag of trash sitting on top of a table rather than on the floor. As someone who has worked for a Health Department in the past, I seriously considered turning around and walking out. If that is happening in the dining area, who knows what is happening in the kitchen. However, at this point I was starving and opted to stay. I wouldn't say that the customer service is anything to write home about. It took about 3-4 minutes to be acknowledged by someone. In the meantime, I spotted a "regular" and asked for a recommendation. He told me to order a double bacon cheeseburger and the fries, so that I did. I ordered the [single patty] bacon cheeseburger with everything on it, and I do have to say, it was fresh and pretty darn delicious. There's nothing quite like juice running down your hand from a good ol' burger. It was a great size for me, but when compared to other major chain burger joints, it's a fairly small burger. The fries, however, are a different story - they left something to be desired. I noticed that the menu offered "fries without seasoning" so I had some pretty high expectations for amazing flavor and the start of a Waco addiction based on that and the customer's recommendation. When the tray was put in front of me by a less than enthusiastic employee, the fries looked pretty darn good. However, half of them were overcooked and dry, while the others were a little on the undercooked side. There was hardly any seasoning on them, so I wasn't sure if I mistakenly received a batch of "fries without seasoning." In my opinion, I received some left-overs with some fresh ones that were both thrown into the deep fryer together. I stumbled across this little joint fairly late in the day (#smalltowntime), around 7:15 pm. There was a pretty decent crowd of what seemed to be regulars. They have several large TVs , which is nice, because the food does take a while to get - I waited about 15 minutes - which is totally fine when it's fresh. I did enjoy glancing at the "Hall of Fame" and "Hall of Shame" pictures from the "Zipper Ripper Challenge." You can see the shear defeat and embarrassment on the faces of those forever immortalized on the wall of shame, and the shear joy and sass on the faces of those who came out on top. It's rather amusing. The place was a little cramped with tables and chairs, and it was fairly messy. In all fairness, I'm sure this was after a dinner rush, but then again, maybe it wasn't - remember the trash bag on the table? Overall, I give this little burger joint 3 stars. Not the best I've had, but definitely not the worst. Would I return for the burger? Sure, when I'm in town again and if I'm in that area (as it's not located in the heart of Waco). Will I return for the fries? Absolutely not. Maybe next time I'll try the onion rings. read more
