Been in Austin on business a couple days and craving a juicy smash burger....but timing and the fact I had been entertaining prevented me from trying one of the many delicious recommendations. Today on the drive back and as I approach Waco I thought I'm gonna find a great smash burger....and oh boy did I ever. 4.5 miles off the expressway yelp pointed me to Captain Billy Whizz...not going to lie on the way there I was concerned and I got closer more worried if I had in fact chosen correctly! Pulling in nothing special and the area is interesting.... Saw they had a drive thru and went what the hell let's do this! Ordered a double smash burger with cheese fully dressed extra pickle, tater tots sweet tea and spent $20.00...just me. What I received was a perfectly cooked and seasoned juicy burger...HOT. The bun was soft and reminded me of an old style burger from my childhood. This is a big juicy burger and everything you'd want and expect in a burger. Tatter-tots were ok...hard to go wrong with em.... The problem is the burger...it's soooo damn good you forget about the tots. got the whizz pig burger, when it was delivered it was rare on the side of blue, red not pink, when we addressed the staff the front cashier was like yes this is definitely raw, the chef in the back (his name was tyler) came out looking pissed off at me, like what is this Karen complaining about and said that's how it should be that the 50\50 beef and bacon burger would be pink, the burger was warm not hot and definitely not to the minimum 160 degrees for ground pork and was told that if he made me a new whizz pig it would come out the same exact way because that is how they cook it. my fiancées food was under seasoned but cooked to the temperature he prefers, honestly didn't meet the expectations of how our friends rave about this place read more

The hamburger joint is very clean and a set up is like an old hamburger joint. I stop in once or twice a month. My go to burger is the whiz pig burger (half bacon and half beef patty )and an order of fries. Also don't forget to whizbang the burger that adds bacon, jalapeño and your choice of cheese. The burger is the right size for a meal always juicy and the lettuce and tomatoes are always fresh. My go to drink is a big red. So if you're looking for a good burger and some fries and a good atmosphere this place won't let you down. Also, this place has some long history with Waco Texas. So check this place out. read more

Funny name...SERIOUSLY good food! We were greeted kindly, didn't have to wait long at all to order in line or on the food itself. We ordered jr burger with cheddar all the way, fries whizzbang style (melted cheddar, ground bacon, diced red onion, and whizzbang sauce; a double whizpig (1/2 beef, 1/2 ground bacon) and onion rings. My jr burger was perfectly cooked, seasoned and had the freshest veggies including sliced red onion (im picky about onion on a burger). The whizzbang fries were incredibly delicious very well done, super crispy fries so as not to get soggy at all, perfectly melted cheese...SO good. I've gotta dedicate a sentence or two or three to these onion rings. You know when onion rings are done right when you can bite through them and it's a clean bite, the batter sticks to the onion, the onion doesn't pull out or away. The batter is very well seasoned, crispy and not greasy at all. These were pretty awesome onion rings! Hubby had the whizpig and said it was good, I tried a bite not knowing what to expect and it was good, just very smoky due to the bacon and we weren't quite expecting it to be so smoky, think backyard bbq burger kind of smoky flavor. I love their burgers but am especially in love with their onion rings! I have to get a double order and while burgers are awesome it appears the rings are hand battered and the onion rings actually HAVE tender rings of onions in them. I had a cheese burger and all the veggies on it were fresh, the burger was juicy but not "wet" from being left in greasy water to reheat a minute on the grill top. (yes, in my young working days that's how it was done.) My strawberry shake was just right. I generally never make it thru a meal but tonight I didn't leave even a piece of bun for my pup. read more

So first the good things: I love the diner vibes and relaxed atmosphere, their regular hamburger is extremely good and the fries are extremely good as well. The pricing of all the items are extremely reasonable, and i like that there is a sink outside of the bathroom for you to wash your hands in. Now the bad things... I am one of those people who reads Yelp reviews and roll my eyes when someone complains about the service. You don't go to a burger place to be treated like royalty. That being said, the servers here make me want to complain about the service. As a former server, i hold others to a lower standard out of empathy, and she didn't even reach a bar that low. With absolutely zero line behind me, the employee rushed me and seem to take personal offense to very simple questions like: what condiments come on the burger? Or, what size are the fries? She made me feel apologetic for asking her such complicated and thorough questions. I'm sorry :( They have like four employees who switch around tending the cash register, the drive through, and bringing food to the table. Forget about Covid, i saw no hand washing or even hand sanitizing between the handling of food and money, i saw no masks in the kitchen area, and i even saw one of the servers pick something up from the floor and then immediately serve someone their food. I will provide an update about whether my stomach is upset after this, which if it isn't from credit card/floor germs on my food, it will be for the Whizz-Pig burger. You ever seen an idea that you think is a 10/10 idea but then is actually a 0/10 execution? That's what this 1/2 patty 1/2 bacon burger is, a terrible idea. An absolutely horrible idea. This burger, i swear, is going to ruin my entire month, at just how audaciously insulting this burger is to my taste buds. It would've honestly been cheaper to just take a shot of straight Himalayan salt. They should've said it's 1/4 patty 1/4 burger 1/2 kosher salt. And buddy, i used to live in Egypt, so the bar for burgers is also pretty low, i still fuck with the dollar menu at McDonald's! The drop in quality between their regular burger and this one is steeper than the freakin Hoover dam. So the question is the following: is it worth ingesting floor germs for a good burger? This is one of the best burgers I've had in a long while. First time here so we played it safe. Cheese burgers all the way. My wife got onion rings and I tried the Whizzbanged fries. Burger was old school and dripping. The good way though. Not the soggy bun greasy. Onion rings were stellar and the whizzbanged fries were a pleasant change from traditional fries. Onions, secret sauce, cheese, and bacon. Out of this world. The only critique, which is trivial and minor, the tea wasn't great but it was still good for a hot day. One of the best parts of this place was the sweet lady who took our order. Nicest lady ever. She saved us from ordering way too much. I was driving down the road and passed a sign for hamburgers, but drove around the block and thought "what the heck, let's try it out." Burger places typically underwhelm me and aren't my first choice, but I was hungry and this place was close. Even though I eat meat, I absolutely love the Beyond Meat burgers, and was pleasantly surprised to see they had this on their menu. I enjoyed this vegan burger with all of the veggies and mustard. We ordered two burgers, whizzbang style, and the whizzbang fries (loaded fries). The burgers were HUGE, which made it super worth our money! Generally the burger is decently good, can't really tell the difference between whizzbanging it or not though, and the patty was a little dry, but the fries were delicious!! The funny thing about this place is that it really grows on you. The first thing I noticed walking in is that it is very roomy and clean. There is plenty of space between the seating areas. You can select from a bar, tall tables, regular tables, comfy booths or booths with hard seats. Then the decor is whimsical, but not cluttered or grimy. The service is prompt and friendly, and the food comes out quickly. The burgers are deceptively simple in that it is a freshly ground patty. You have the option of the whizz-pig patty with bacon ground into the patty. Yummy, but I love the seductive beefiness of the regular patty too--so, I have finally opted to do one of each on the #2 basket which features a double patty burger. The tater tots are fried crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. It is getting more rare these days to find a burger joint with good tots. I find myself craving for these burgers... mostly because they are honest and not overly seasoned or greasy. When I think of diner burgers, this place comes to mind time and again. read more

This place definitely, DEFINITELY has the best burgers in Waco, and if I might very boldly say, the best burger I've ever had in my life. (However, I have yet to try Shake Shack and other top-notch burger joints). I came here around 7 pm on a Friday night in a group of 4. Food: I ordered a 4x2 burger with regular fries. (I was super hungry okay). But I saw at the bottom of the menu that you could substitute patties for their special Whizz patty (half ground beef, half ground bacon), which I proceeded to do for 2 of my 4 patties. The burger was HUGE and required a good amount of maneuvering to take that first bite. The meat patties were so juicy, and the two cheeses were perfect with the 4 patties. The fries were perfect, not too salty (especially considering the saltiness of the burger because of the bacon). I can't quite figure out where I've tasted fries like theirs before, and I will not stop going to Captain Billy Whizzbang's until I have. Service: The service was typical. The girl behind the counter didn't look very friendly, but took my rather difficult order pleasantly. The food was made fresh (she told the guys in the back our order after we ordered), and brought out to us very quickly. it was also pretty cool that they ask how many are in your group so they can bring out your food all together in one group, even if you order/pay separately. Environment: The coolest thing about this place is that the building doesn't like look like a restaurant or a burger place at all. From the exterior, the building just looks like a random building. It's not really located right on Valley Mills, so it's a little less popular and less advertised. I paid $13.12 for meal. The food is cooked fresh unlike McDonalds where the use frozen beef, this place gets their food out and ready. That is why the wait is so long (Approximately 10-15 minutes) but the fries, don't even get me started on the fries, they are AMAZING. They put the PERFECT amount of any toppings you ask for.
