There's a small barstool table area lined against a wall and a few tables next to the window. I'd wager this place fits around 25 people when it's jam-packed and it would be a tight squeeze. Not much bigger than my living room. A verysmall establishment but it does very well. Home to the "Zipper Ripper", a 7-pattied beast that I dare not try to attempt. But the food is amazing for such a great little establishment. Every bite was jam-packed with both meat and veggies, leaving nothing to be desired. A rare balance these days, where you sometimes find your meat is buried under a garden of vegetables that constantly spills forth from the buns. The burger was a good size, not too small but not so big you feel sick after eating it either. The fries that come with the meal also are very good. Not quite steakfries, but a good size. Not overly salted or too burnt so the flavor shines through. They compliment the burger nicely. This meal was a great value for the price as well, only $4.50 for a burger, fries and drinks. Overall, it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Chip's Burger Village (Proper review for Chip's coming soon) as my favorite burger so far. read more

It doesn't have the greatest atmosphere. If a meal it's about the whole experience to you, like it is to me, you will find it lacking. There's no charm or warmness to the physical environment, but the cashier, server was friendly. It's order and pay at counter, fix your own drink, then they bring you the food. Burgers were ok. They remind you of old fashioned tastee freeze burgers and I think the nostalgia is why people love them. Personally, I would have liked a bigger, thicker patty and I was unimpressed with the chili cheese fries. The chili was average. The kids meals seemed quite skimpy on French fries, but they were cheap so no big deal. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. Went here last night. Burger and fries. Burger is ok, nothing real special but good enough. Fries were interesting with the hint of sugar. Onion rings were good. They need to get buttermilk ranch dressing not the regular stuff. There is a huge difference in taste. Four stars purely on the food. Very tasty and would of enjoyed it even more if the bread would of been extra toasted (like we requested) instead of soggy. We got home and toasted the bread ourselves. Don't go here for the customer service. The girl who took our order (short with glasses) could not be more uninterested or bored with us and since it was our 1st time we had questions which she just ignored and stared at us until we placed the order. After our order was placed she then reminded us if we wanted to leave a tip to give it directly to her and not put it in the tip jar so it could go just to her lol. The cook in the back had better customer service then her but anyways... Overall food is good and we will be back and hopefully we get a different cashier ;) read more

Came in with party of four in front of me; that's all. I placed an order for ONE cheeseburger with fried egg. It took them 15 mins to get one burger done and when they handed me the bag I noticed they forgot the fried egg. Really? How hard is it to get a one burger order right. Not to mention in a timely manner. On top of that the burgers at In-and-Out are much better and cheaper. $5.19 for a small cheeseburger? In Waco? Really? Best burger I've had, possibly I'm years. The meat has a lot of natural flavor. It's well cooked. It's moist without being a mess. The perfectly cooked sunnyside - up fried egg was unnecessary, but brilliant. This place is just a couple minutes off I-35. It's worth the detour for quick stretch of the legs. read more

The food here used to be really good. I do not care for their seasoned sugar fries. The last few weeks we noticed a change in the burgers,kind of bland. Great food, great atmosphere, and one of the few places in Waco with a food challenge. Located in out-of-the-way Lacy-Lakeview but worth it once you discover it. This place started out in a tiny building and a couple of years ago they built the "barn" around it and expanded its capacity probably tenfold. Their signature burgers, fries, onion rings and homemade potato chips are all excellent, and they have hot dogs, chopped barbecue sandwiches, and other items on the menu as well. You can get almost anything added to your burger, even a fried egg! The food challenge: You must consume a "Zipper Ripper", which consists of 5 meats, 5 slices of cheese, 5 strips of bacon, and all vegetables, plus an entire pound of fries and a drink, in twelve minutes. Succeed, and your picture goes on the Wall of Fame and you receive a T-shirt for your efforts; fail, and your picture goes on the Wall of Shame (significantly bigger than the Wall of Fame, for good reason) and you'll be coughing up $19.99 to cover the grief you caused the place. They don't serve alcohol here, so don't come expecting it; however, it is rumored that they will eventually build a second location over by Baylor (17th street I think) and that the new location will serve alcohol. Four stars instead of five because it is EXPENSIVE. Even the add-ons are steep. read more

On my way driving home I saw a sign for Dave's burgers that featured a luscious 3 stacked high cheeseburger so I decided to stop by. Best burger I've found in Waco. Seating is limited inside, but they have covered outdoor seating that works great for bigger groups. I've come frequently with a dozen or so people and there's plenty of space to sit and the orders are all out quickly. Not much else to say. Service is very friendly; it's a mom & son shop. They used to have tater tots that were to die for, but they stopped serving them (the fries are really good though). A Waco favorite for me. read more

Went here for a girl's Mardis Gras night and LOVED it! Dave's is slightly off the beaten path for Wacoans, but not too far, and the location is perfect for TSTC students. The food was excellent--the burgers were so fresh (meat and toppings) and the fries were light and crispy. To top it all off (since it was Fat Tuesday), we ordered floats and did not regret it. Dave's offers a wide variety of soda and Blue Bell ice cream, allowing for some unique and delicious float combinations. Everything was served quickly and with a smile. Dave's would be great for watching a game, since it boasts a huge projector screen and other TVs as well. Unlike sports bars though, the space wasn't overwhelmed by TVs. And, for the truly brave of heart, Dave's offers a "Zipper Ripper" challenge; something that looks straight out of Man vs. Food! I will definitely be taking another trip to Dave's soon. read more

We found this little place with Yelp while on our way to Kansas from Austin. Excellent small but flavorful burgers, and the very best crispy yet not over cooked sweet potato fries that I have ever had! The decor is sort of 1950's style. The music is good and the staff was very friendly. Great food served up by good kids in a nice, clean restaurant. Not cheap, but worth every cent and not stupid expensive. You get what you pay for. Dave's service, food, and atmosphere is worth it. We will definitely be back. This place is on my I-35 pit stop list now. Check it out! read more

I'm relocating to this area for work, and had seen Dave's on Yelp the last time I was in town, so i decided to grab my lunch there this time. I had the small burger basket with fries and a drink, while my dad had the large burger basket, fries and drink. The burgers were the same size as the other (a bit misleading with the name). The burger was pretty good and juicy. The bun was toasted, which added a nice surprise to the overall burger. The difference in the two baskets was the amount of fries. My small had a nice serving of fries, but the large had easily triple the amount of fries. The only complaint I have (other than price; it was kinda up there for 2 burger meals) would be the sugar sprinkled on the fries. It was an unpleasant surprise (in my opinion), which is why I gave Dave's only 4 stars. read more

Was looking on google for a new place to try after a mini road trip down with the family. Dave's popped up and decided to try here. Their burgers... are delicious, juicy, and great meat. We also tried their Chili Cheese Fries, amazing, sweet salted fries and a very hearty chili made a great combination. Only thing we thought was "okay" was their chopped bbq sandwich, it was extremely Smokey which lost some flavor from the meat. But overall experience was fantastic, staff was friendly, and atmosphere was simplistic. Will recommend to all friends and family. read more
