They have several classic flavors along with island faves. My kids opted for mint chocolate chip and ube. We saved a couple dollars by opting for the 2 scoops and paying $1 for an additional paper cup to share the two scoops. It cost more to get them a scoop each. I'm shocked there was only one person working at night. Making shaved ice can take a bit of time and so it backs up the line with only one person working. That is not the fault of the worker! I ordered a split single scoop of lychee sherbet and banana fudge ice cream. The lychee sherbet was so refreshing. The banana fudge reminded me of the banana split dippin dots. We just had dinner at Stix Asia and decided to get dessert at Dave's. The two counter girls were very friendly and offered samples of the flavors. The prices are in line with the tourist Waikiki area. There are some very unique hawaiian flavors here and also old time favorites. My pick was coffee and ube which was generously scooped. The coffee was deep with a nice coffee taste. The Ube was totally rich with hint of coconut and totally enjoyed it. Seating inside consists of a few counter stools and two tables outside. It's a clean, bright, cheerful shop! Dave's is a familiar name - because this local company began in 1982. I've been to the Waimanalo and Waimalu locations - and even at Sears Ala Moana before Sears left Hawaii! Dave's Ice Cream at Stix Asia opened about a week ago. Service by the owners, a friendly young couple, was excellent! They offered everyone samples and were so welcoming! Keep screaming for this cool treat... The newest addition to Stix Asia is the classic cool treat by Daves Ice Cream and what a convenient location right in the heart of Waikiki. After having an early dinner bite at a nearby eatery in fact it's on the first floor of Waikiki Shopping Plaza...Big Island Burger and what a meal the thing is what about dessert!? Luckily we decided to explore the area and found Daves in the lower level of the Shopping Plaza in Stix Asia right at the Kalakaua Street entrance down the escalator and this tiny shop is a bright beacon with display case filled with yummy ice cream but it's always the seasonal flavors that capture my attention and it was "Pumpkin Cheesecake Crunch" yum! It is that and yes so much more though I chose a single scoop in a cup I'm sure having it in their waffle cone would've really transform it into a pie literally as the cone can be the crust lol! Stumbled in here one evening, tucked away in the corner of a food court mall in Waikiki. Always heard good things about it, saw it in the supermarket and just decided to go ahead and give their ice cream a try. Vibes were good, staff were polite. Inside the shop was a little packed. Decided to sample a couple of things and ended up getting the ube ice cream and kulolo ice cream Consistency was good, flavor was there but wish it was stronger. I like me a hearty kulolo, i hoped for a little bit more. Ube was better, flavor was stronger, solid for an ice cream. In my previous experience ube seems to be a hard flavor to get right but they did an alright job. Kulolo gets a . Its not bad but honestly not great either nor super memorable. Cute little ice cream shop near on the Waikiki strip. Its nearby a lot of other restaurants too so it's a great place to grab a quick dessert after a meal. A friend of mine kept saying I had to try the coffee ice cream - it was very refreshing, especially after walking down the strip to get here from our hotel! I'm not a fan of coffee but it was pretty decent. The employee was super friendly! Tried to go here upon exiting Stix Asian food hall. Waiting behind a family and was clearly the only other people in the shop, when another family starts looking at flavors of ice cream and is served before us by a girl. Then when the guy finishes up with the first family he asks the family being served before us if they need anything. At this point I walked out with my daughter. I don't know if it was due to race (other family was Asian and white). It was very obvious that they were willing to serve others before us. Day, one of being officially open. We looked into this location in the underground market, currently called STIX. But it's Dave's. Which inherently makes it wonderful. The people here were very very kind, my only sadness is that they don't have Kulolo. Then that my children's sample flavors that they have had before other locations, but is always as exciting to try again. The scoops were generous. And the smiles were big as we enjoyed our ice cream. The area is clean and brightly lit. Nice big new Dave's ice cream sign on the wall. Can't wait to see this location. Sad that the old waikiki location closed, but love the convenience of this new location. The counter staff were so nice and were happy to let me sample a whole bunch of flavors. Their selection is tropical/Hawaiian flavors galore. I got a scoop of ube and melon mochi. There is mochi inside of the big scoop of melon ice cream which made it sooo delicious. There were so many other flavors I wanted so I later went back for a scoop of the lychee flavor which had actual lychee bits inside. I have high hope for this shop since they like an OG. I know their name even I never tried them. But I was disappointed by their matcha ice cream. There is no matcha taste at all. I couldn't convince myself I am eating a matcha ice cream. I will stick to Nordstrom Gelato and 7Gradi. Love the flavors. Blueberry cheesecake is my go to. Fast service in a clean facility. My only complaint is that I got a triple $10.50 to go and the lid couldn't fit so the server offered to smash it down....had I known I was gonna get taxed ( they scooped about the size of a kiddie cup $5.50 off to make the lid fit) i woulda just ate some first and put the lid on myself. The ice cream was okay. The service was horrible. There were two employees working that evening at the shop and one of them kept smirking as if they were going to laugh about me. I understand that my appearance may not be their style. They need to learn how to compose themselves when serving guests.
