Service was good, but price was both too high and misrepresented. Update: The store contacted me and refunded the amount that was misrepresented. Their customer service was quality throughout the process. I think the price was slightly too high, but not a major problem if fairly represented. I recently took an old laptop in from a deceased family member. As a computer scientist, I'm perfectly capable of getting the data off myself, but didn't want to spend the time on it. Data Doctors took a $60 deposit to assess, then called me to let me know it would be $140. I don't agree that the $140 is a fair price, but the sunk cost made it unappealing to go elsewhere, so I went ahead. Upon retrieving the data, they let me know the total cost was $200, that the $140 did not include the deposit figure. This was not communicated to me until time of purchase. The service was timely and as described, but the price was both unfair and misrepresented. I would advise anyone concerned about the cost of service to steer clear. Data retrieval services are priced at either $100 or $200 from them, but it appears that no realistic case would ever result in the $100 cost. read more

I took my computer to Data Doctors to download photos. They quoted me a reasonable price, but then the price was increased to almost $200, a much higher price. I changed my mind and asked for a refund of the initial fee. The guy was extremely rude and yelled at me on the phone, telling me never to come back to Data Doctors! I didn't curse at him or yell at him. In hindsight, maybe I should have just let it go. But I didn't think I deserved to be yelled at. I understand that people work hard for their income, but there was a better way to handle this than yelling at the customer and telling them that they were not welcomed back as customers. And of course, I will honor that and not come back. My husband brought in my computer to be updated as I am with Data Doctors monthly program, today he stops by as my computer was supposed to be ready yesterday and neither of us had heard anything, turns out they gave MY computer to someone else!!! Joe at Data Doctors gave my computer to another person!!! Obviously they didn't ask for an ID, or anything. They are supposed to try to get it back but I am not too hopeful. Besides even if I get it back has this other person gotten into my computer? Is my personal information now compromised? Data Doctors stole my computer and now what do I do? Highly recommend this store! My MacBook was frozen after my 8 year old son downloaded a ton of games. I ignored it for awhile and then it wouldn't even power on. Took it to the apple store at chandler mall and was told there was nothing they could do because it wouldn't power on. My husband insisted I take it to another repair place before I replaced it and I'm so happy I took it to Data Doctors. Last November I asked Steve to help me with a problem I was encountering with my 6 year old Dell PC. Steve worked tirelessly diagnosing the problem. I subsequently decided it was probably a good time to purchase a new PC from Steve. He built me a great computer and also helped me transfer all of the programs and data from my old PC. I am a small business owner and Steve's patience, professionalism and knowledge are unparalleled. Steve also helped me upgrade programs on my second backup PC. He is truly a very kind man who understands the frustrations customers experience dealing with their computer problems. After I posted a negative review about Data Doctors because they would not stand behind their repairs, I received numerous E-mail from them asking what they could do "to fix the problem". This afternoon I received a phone call from a Steve at DD, asking what Data Doctors could do to fix the problem. He was told, in no uncertain terms, that Andrew the manager, when I went back to the Chandler Blvd location in early May, basically told me DD was not going to do anything to fix my computer. I learned Andrew is no longer the manager, they seem to have quite the turnover in managers and he, Steve, would help me. I informed Steve that a month ago Data Doctors was unwilling to make good on their "repairs" and I had to spend additional money having my computer fixed. It cost me an additional $150.00 to have my computer repaired by a professional. I can not nor would I ever recommend Data Doctors! read more

I had a MacBook Pro with a failed hard drive -- it wouldn't even boot up, and Apple was unable to migrate the data off. I never even considered a Mac hard drive failing, but obviously, they can. I brought the laptop to Derick at this Data Doctors location, and thankfully, they were able to recover ALL my data! That saved me untold hours of work and frustration. Total cost, $199. Stopped in once to ask about my laptop battery not charging (I had read Dell Diagnostics and support threads, but wanted to take it in first before I got into buying parts). The visit was probably 10 minutes and the guy at the counter literally just turned the computer on to see the "not charging" message, turned it off and directed me to Batteries Plus. Needless to say I was a bit surprised, but I thought maybe he was trying to save me some money. So off to Batteries Plus I go, where the only battery they had in stock wasn't a complete match and did not work on my system. They offered to order me a replacement battery for $170, but I figured I could get a better deal online. So I ordered a replacement battery and AC adapter just in case. Both come and I try them with no success. My computer won't recognize the new battery. While testing all this I realized that there was a BIOS update I needed, but wouldn't run because my Dell battery didn't have enough charge and the replacement battery wasn't recognized. So I went back to Data Doctors with all the parts and explanation of what I had found. I suppose I should have turned around as soon as they couldn't take my credit card info because their router was down (not good for an IT/computer company to have IT issues). For some reason they asked to keep the replacement AC adapter, but not the replacement battery only to call me 2 days later and ask for the battery (never mind that their hours mean I am late to work if I have to stop by). So by Friday afternoon, after having my computer for 5 days, I called to check on it because 5 days seemed like an awful long time to have my laptop. They told me almost word for word what I told them was the problem on Day 1. The diagnosis was that I needed a Dell battery and not a generic replacement. It took them 5 days to tell me that. They also told me they had discovered some Trojan viruses on my computer. I was skeptical since I have been shelling out money to McAfee for years. So when I got my computer back I ran a scan, which came back negative, but when looking at the scanning history, I was reminded that McAfee did find 4 viruses 2 YEARS AGO and had quarantined them. I am glad I got my laptop back when I did and am sorry I didn't ask for a refund because the only thing Data Doctors did for me was prevent me from having a usable laptop for a week. I certainly don't need them to order me a Dell battery, when I can do that myself. I was under the mistaken idea that a computer repair company would have spare parts to test systems so that I could have diagnosed the issue before having to go out an replace parts one by one. I should have called my company's IT department back in Virginia because they would have been more helpful. I can't speak to other locations, but I will never patronize the Ahwatukee store again. I did ultimately resolve the problem when I found PHX CPU. Since I had pretty much done all my own diagnostics, I realized it was either the DC power jack or motherboard. Thankfully, it was the former and PHX CPU replaced my power jack and my laptop is running perfectly again. read more

My hard drive was going out on my PC so under Abu J's advice, I took it in to Data Doctor's. They're repairing it as we speak and I found them to be professional, efficient and knowledgeable. These guys at store 203 Lost my computer. I took it in a month ago for repair a hard drive, when I went in today to see why they have not contracted me. (after i paid a $59,"Check in Fee") 1st they said I picked it up. Which I did not. Then they said they recycled it because I did not pick it up. They said the called me 5 times, which they never called me once. I asked why they did not send me an email. They said we just call. I asked where is their policy that says they can throw away my equipment .(they don't have one" Then they said "let me call my boss and see if we still have it" It is simple, 1. I was very impressed with Steve, the store manager, at this location. My old computer was having issues and I knew it was time to upgrade. He was very patient and knowledgeable and I am thrilled with the new tower I bought from them. The best part, they also transitioned all my programs/files from the old computer to the new - it was a seamless operation. Store has changed. Do NOT take your computer there. I have used this store for all of my computer needs for past 4 years, they were always great, until now. Two weeks ago I brought my desktop in to add a video card so I can hook up a second monitor. I was told two business days (which was the case in the past). On day three, I call to check in. I was told that they "haven't gotten to video card yet" but I had all of these viruses (I seriously question this now). I agreed to have them clean it out. I was told one more day. Two days later, still have not heard back. I call them and they tell me "they have to order my video card". Nearly TWO WEEKS later, I call them back. I am told that they cannot find a compatible video card with my 2014 Dell desktop!!!! So it took them two weeks to tell me they couldn't do what I brought in computer for (but still managed to scam me out of $250 for a virus cleanup and then denied my ability to use a coupon). I called Dell to discuss adding a video card. Then, Geek Squad. Geek Squad has the video card and is installing it as we speak. Within two days may I add. These people at this store are incompetent, lack professionalism and completely ripped me off. I am so saddened by this. They really used to be great :( read more

Took my computer in for troubleshoot and diagnostic, they charged $59.00, which is fine because its put towards the repairs. However its not fine when the the price of the repairs are 3 to 4 times the amount of three other computer repair shops in the area I called. Overpricing might not be illegal but it is unethical. Its obvious this business was not founded on ethics. It was founded on 'Your Only As Good As Your Last Sale' that's the way I felt when I received the phone call with a $190.00 repair bill on top of the $59.00 I already paid. When I arrived to pick up my computer, the paperwork did not reflect the recommended repairs, I had to ask for a written estimate, as you would receive at an automotive repair shop when taking your vehicle in for a repair, you would think this was the norm. I ended up taking the computer to Airmatecom out of Mesa, read their reviews, their reputation precedes them. They charged me $65.00 for the same service I was going to be charged at Data Doctors. I gave Data Doctors two stars, reason being, the shop is clean, the personnel are clean cut and courteous, however they are sure proud of their work$$$ read more

This is an unscrupulous business. Brought in my laptop and left it for diagnosis. was advised 2 weeks later that the motherboard quit and the staffer then attempted to sell me a "great deal" computer. I advised I would be looking around and finally spent more money on a desk top. Several months later, a friend took the notebook apart to replace the motherboard only to discover the problem was a loose connection and nothing wrong with the laptop! When confronting this business again with the findings, I was accused of lying about the situation even though I had all of the backup to prove this was nothing more than an oversight on their part or a ploy to make more money for their business. These folks take advantage of consumers and lie . This appears to be their norm. I would never recommend this business to anyone. read more

I've been to other Data Doctors over the years, and I have to say they've hit a range of 2-3 stars. But I've been working with James at this store for the last week, and he's excellent. They upgraded the RAM on one of my laptops in a very timely fashion. Then on a second laptop they upgraded the hard drive to twice its original size and managed to do so in a way that the new hard drive exactly mirrored the old ones, installed programs and all. The price was reasonable and James really knows what he's doing. Even though they're not the closest Data Doctors to where I am, I'll definitely go to this store for my computer work. read more

Went out to this Data Doctors location today with a broken iPad. While this is not their area of expertise, they were happy to look at it to see if they could repair the broken connector. Taking a good 30 minutes to do so without charge, Steve was not able to fix it but gave me a referral to someone he thought could help me. During my wait, two different customers came in. One to drop off and one to pick up (who was charged $40). Both seemed to be repeat happy customers. I went to this place based on the great Better Business Bureau ratings but was concerned about the yelp comments.
