Dat Dog looked and smelled good when we walked by, so we entered the establishment. They had quite a few hot dogs on the menu, but you can build your own too. I went with a Chicago dog since that's one of my favorites. Wife built her own hot dog. It took a while to prepare the dogs, but it was worth the wait. Maybe I am just too simple of a person. I am very easy to please and am just as happy eating a $5 meal as a $50 meal. $12.50 for one hot dog seems pricey to me and I am not cheap. I spend a lot of money on food. Not going to say my hot dog (Irish Channel) wasn't great because it was but this isn't my cup of tea. Will stick to my $1.50 hot dog from that bulk retailer. EPIC...just EPIC! That's all I can say. Dat Dog is by far, #1 in my book of all the hot dog places I have eaten. The only difficult thing about DatDog is making up your mind which one to eat because you can't go wrong with any of them. Whether you choose: Smoked bratwurst, andouille smoked alligator, crawfish, or my favorite duck it's all SPECTACULAR. I have been known to just order 2 and just stuff myself. It's not fast food so it takes a few minutes to get your order because they cook to order. When you're at the location on Frenchman, might I suggest ordering the - Duck Special (Shell Style) blackberry sauce, bacon, mustard, bbq sauce, chipotle sauce & grilled onions!!! It's ridiculously delicious and you better get a handful of napkins. Husband and I came in for lunch and tried the alligator hot dog which was super good! My husband was jealous he didn't order that too, we will definitely be back to get it again and try others as well. Pretty solid place to eat when you're drunk on Frenchman street. Got some pretty authentic Chicago style dogs. I added bacon on mine and it was a $2 up charge I think (steep). But the main draw is the hot dogs ( all served on toasty sourdough rolls) They serve 10 types from a good old Vienna-style hotdog to duck, alligator, and crawfish sausages and brats. This is the cool place to be in NoLa, you'll see every local lining up to eat here as the night comes to a close, skipping most of NoLa in the process. Of course as with all things Yelp now that I've told you that, it will begin its transition into everyone going and the locals finding their next hot spot.
