If you're out on Frenchmen Street, you've got to hit Dat Dog! Such a fun, late-night spot with tons of creative options. I tried one of their loaded dogs and it did not disappoint--super flavorful, messy in the best way, and totally hit the spot after a night out. The vibe is lively and casual, with music and energy all around. Staff was friendly and kept things moving even when it got busy. Perfect stop when you're bar hopping or just craving something different. Definitely coming back next time I'm in New Orleans! read more

Maybe I am just too simple of a person. I am very easy to please and am just as happy eating a $5 meal as a $50 meal. $12.50 for one hot dog seems pricey to me and I am not cheap. I spend a lot of money on food. Not going to say my hot dog (Irish Channel) wasn't great because it was but this isn't my cup of tea. Will stick to my $1.50 hot dog from that bulk retailer. I have tried Dat Dog about 4 times in past 10 years so I have tried a few of their items. They do have a happy hour with discounted hot dogs. That is great of them to offer that. read more

I usually love Dat Dog, but this visit missed the mark. It took over 30 minutes to get a hot dog, with staff mostly standing around or on their phones. When it finally came out, the hot dog was overcooked. I'm a fan of this place and really hope the service improves, because when Dat Dog is on, it's great. read more

Darn good hot dog. Counter service was friendly. Just passing through town and friends I was visiting said this was their go to for darn good dogs. Onion rings were ok would have been better if they were hot. Nice vibe and TVs inside and out for the sporting crowd. I ordered the only dog with Cole slaw and was disappointed in the amount of topping on all of our dogs. The quality of the meats is tops notch but the topping needs some work. read more

Had the bacon werewolf special and it was pretty damn good. The bun was toasted perfectly with my only complaint being it split in the middle so it fell apart a bit. Personally, I don't love an overstuffed dog/sandwich/burger but the flavors were on point. Oh and the fries were crispy and well seasoned. Service is friendly and nonchalant. Stopped by The Market at Dat Dog on a super rainy night, and it was pretty empty when I walked in. I was craving a veggie dog and this place had great reviews. You order at the counter, then they bring the food out to wherever you're sitting. Super easy and laid-back. The hot dog was one of the best I've ever had, perfectly cooked, loaded with flavor, and just really satisfying. Service was great too. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I mentioned I have an egg allergy, and they immediately knew which items had eggs and which didn't, which I really appreciated. All around, a delicious meal and great experience. Sometimes you just crave sausage. Or a dog of some sort. Sometimes, you're just killing time before a parade begins and you think to yourself - something needs to get in the stomach before more alcohol is consumed. This is a great location, even though it feel so tiny it's really not. They had a limited menu due to the parade, but I still enjoyed some kielbasa and tots. The tots were so wonderfully salty and cheesy that I was in heaven. Plus, it helped keep me warm before continuing on with my drinking. For the record, there is a bar there, but I was trying to add in that food layer. read more

Not a single complaint in the taste category. Even the bun was perfect for such girthy meats and all those toppings!!! It's interestingly decorated with a few comedic relief pieces of decor. The booth seating could be improved but won't deter from enjoying your food. There are multiple locations but we tried this one on a night out drinking on Frenchmen Street; Although many of the clubs serve food this is a a well lit break from that scene. Friendly service all around. Very cool, chill atmosphere ( a lot of graffiti art) with booths, tables, or countertop seats available. Of course you can still keep drinking here, there are so many items to eat. So they also serve burgers, salads, & platters as well as fish & vegan items ( i.e. a breaded codfish shaped into a hot dog on a bun). But the main draw is the hot dogs ( all served on toasty sourdough rolls) They serve 10 types from a good old Vienna-style hotdog to duck, alligator, and crawfish sausages and brats. There are dozens of toppings to build your own but they have some cool signature dogs such as the : -FLYING PIG: ANDOUILLE SMOKED SAUSAGE, ANDOUILLE SAUCE, CHEDDAR CHEESE, GRILLED ONIONS, BBQ SAUCE, YELLOW MUSTARD & BACON ( a big mess of comfort goodness) -BACON WEREWOLF: SMOKED BRATWURST, BACON, DILL,RELISH, SAUERKRAUT, GRILLED ONIONS, TOMATOES & CREOLE MUSTARD The corn dog was just ok; When in need, indeed, try the dawgs here or grab them to go after a night out. read more

I came here before heading to the French Quarter with friends. I got the Etouffee Special and liked it. The hot dog was flavorful and well-cooked, different from the hot dogs I've had. Came here after visiting a few bars and it hit the spot. The Rougarou's alligator sausage wasn't as flavorful as I thought. It was a little tougher than a normal sausage but still was good. I liked the Flying Pig the best bc of the andouille sausage and bacon. When you eat in, the server will tell you a joke as they deliver your food- such fun service! i wasn't feeling that great so while my friends noshed on hotdogs, i got a side of tots with crawfish etouffee. this place was b u m p i n' and service was hustling to get all the orders out. they have indoor, outdoor, and upstairs seating. there was also a full bar upstairs. we had a great time sitting upstairs outside, dancing on the balcony to neighboring club music. my tots were great too. hot and crispy but not oily and the etouffee didn't skimp on the crawfish meat. i think my group was all feeling kind of grumpy hungry after our original dinner spot didn't pan out, so we were all very pleased with dat dog. read more

We made the hike here from the French quarter and it was SO worth it. Great variety of options on the menu but also the ability to build your own dog. The place was SWAMPED but we still got to place orders and get our food in a reasonable time. And the fries were DELICIOUS! I didn't order any but luckily my friends were able to share. This is the cool place to be in NoLa, you'll see every local lining up to eat here as the night comes to a close, skipping most of NoLa in the process. Of course as with all things Yelp now that I've told you that, it will begin its transition into everyone going and the locals finding their next hot spot. The veggie dog was just plain fantastic so I get why it's popular. It's andouille style and they meant it. They also serve beer which is right for keeping the night going if you show up early enough in your outing. They do reduce the menu when the line gets long, with some kind of funny duct tape that constantly falls down, so you do need to be ready for a reduction in available items the later you arrive. read more

Finding vegetarian friendly food is a challenge in NOLA so Dat Dog has been a refuge for my partner and I when we need a quick, delicious, and affordable meal. Their customer service is exceptional! Dat Dog has FOUR different veggie sausages! They're each made of different ingredients. They offer a nice variety of potato options. I ordered think what was called their Mexi-Cali special. It's a chipotle vegan dog on a lettuce wrap with their dat sauce, pico de gallo, and guac. The chipotle dog has a nice kick to it so if you don't like spicy I recommend going with a different dog. It was delicious and actually filling. Because life is about balance, I also ordered a side of their sweet potato fries. They were tasty and crispy. I'm in love with their dat sauce. Don't be in a hurry if you go to this place. There was four people working but yet they still couldn't figure out how to get orders out. I've never seen so much confusion amongst four adults working in a simple hot dog stand. It was 2 o'clock in the afternoon on a Thursday so they weren't exactly busy. I would say that this is more of a daycare for all the employees kids sitting there eating fries and hotdog. The hotdog was decent after the 35 minute wait. It was definitely not worth the time. Dat dog visit was a result of chance. It was thw chewbacca on the second floor that brought me in. Simple place with a creole flair. Nice dude took my order. I built my own dog. Wow, that thing was absolutely full of flavor and was one of the best dogs I ever had. I should have ordered 2. The decor was neat and full color awesome. First time here. Was across the street and noticed they have a second floor balcony area that we would be able to grab some food and drinks, sit outside and enjoy the evening's chaos outside. Came in and wanted to order a chicken sandwich and was told they are out of chicken sandwich and burgers. It's Saturday night and they only have hot dogs and sausages. Ok then, Chicago hot dog then. Ohhh onion rings. And nope they don't have that either. Ok tater tots then. With one local beer, total was about $21. Went upstairs and found a table outside to sit and enjoy all that's going on. Food was brought up on a tray and the person was walking around calling out your name. My order was brought to me and we enjoyed it. Definitely a relax place. No frills but we did enjoy the outdoors seating. Chicago dog was pretty tasty. Restaurant had a bar upstairs and downstairs. There's seatings inside and outside. Can't get mad about anything here. I went there and they told me they decided to close immediately after I placed my order, and they did not disclose this to me until AFTER I placed my order. we asked for the chef's special and they tried their best to charge as much as possible. my bill was $75+ for 4 hot dogs. Established in 2011.

Dat Dog started in a 475 square foot shack on Freret Street in New Orleans. Within five years, we moved across the street to a renovated gas station and opened up locations on Magazine Street, Frenchmen Street, and in Lakeside Mall in Metairie. Our business may be growing, but we still retain the same great food, charm, and funky atmosphere that gave us our roots in the original shack.

The bacon jam was sweet and went well with the Brussels sprouts. I loved the combination of the cheesy grits and the Crystal hot sauce. It was the perfect amount of both and some how led me to understand why Americans put hot sauce on their Mac n cheese and some other cheesy dishes after 30 years of not really understanding the attraction to that combo. I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price. The bread that came with it was overtoasted, but the foie gras parfait was excellent. We ended the night with the grapefruit sesame panna cotta. The flavors were surprising but they worked really well together. Would definitely come back for cocktails and light bites the next time we're in the city!

The murals, the history, and the energy of the room give it a sense of occasion that you do not get at most bars. We had such a great time sitting at the bar that my wife and I each finished two and a half Sazeracs, which tells you everything you need to know.
