Bloody Mary
Amy W.

We came for the smash burgers -- you know, the ones everyone raves about from Slap Burger, which operates out of the back of this bar. It even has its own Yelp page, so you know it's legit. Well, plot twist -- when we got there, the super sweet bartender Jenny broke the news that they had just changed the hours and were no longer open on Thursdays. (Check out my photo for the latest hours as of March 2025 -- you're welcome.) Here's the kicker -- we had already schlepped all the way from the French Quarter on foot and were sitting at around 13,000 steps for the day. We earned that burger! But, when life gives you closed burger joints, you pivot to cocktails -- and Jenny had us covered. Hubbs went for a Bloody Mary (solid choice), and I opted for a vodka soda... okay, maybe three vodka sodas -- but who's counting? The place itself? Total dive bar perfection. A couple of colorful locals popped in for a quick drink, the vibe was laid-back, and the drinks were strong enough to make you forget about the burger heartbreak (at least temporarily). Jenny was a gem -- attentive, funny, and quick with a refill. We were still mourning the loss of those smash burgers when someone at the bar confirmed, "Oh yeah, they are that good." Fantastic. Thanks for that.

Western burger and local beer.

There is something special about this place and you feel it before you even walk in the door. Small, divey, cash only bar that fits perfectly into everything you want this city to be. The burgers are down a hall into another little area that smells great. They take cards at the burger joint. The menu is like 6 burgers long and fills every drunk burger craving you might have. Smashed to perfection with crispy, caramelized edges on a solid brioche bun. Staff and patrons alike are super friendly and they make you feel like a local right away.

Smash burger

I completely forgot to review this spot but as I was thinking about smash burgers I've had this year (and I'm from the east coast so I've had 7th street burger, Gotham etc.) I still think about this burger. Everything was perfect! The burgers were thing but massive, the cheese perfectly ooey gooey, the charred onions on top my goodness. The staff was quick with their service and everything was cooked fresh! Interesting tiny hole in the wall back of a dive far but if you find your way it's amazing. You won't regret it!

The original SLAP Burger

The original SLAP Burger is . Bomb fries too. Great local spot to shoot pool, watch sports, and great outdoor seating. Definitely in my rotation for many years now, you won't be disappointed with the food nor the experience, it's a local dive at its best :)

Yeah it's like that. You've heard about it but you gotta pull up on em. Plus the staff hella cool and down to earth. Legendary vibe. Flavors goin crazy off the Richter scale type beat when you get that first bite. Pull up, Stay Eatin & thank me later!

Definitely not open until 2AM

I've been hearing about this place, and I was at another establishment having a low-volume conversation--or so I thought, ha ha. The waiter overheard us discussing burger options, and I mentioned Marie's. He enthusiastically jumped into the convo and said if we liked burgers, we should DEFINITELY try Marie's. So I took that as a sign to head on over after we finished our drinks. I pull up, hop out, to see what Marie's talking bout--#bars. This spot is dim and a dive bar for sure, but the bartender was light and polite as she directed me to the back of the building to place my burger order. Oh yeah, the bar is cash-only, and the ATM charges for withdrawals, so just keep that in mind if you want a drink. I settled on the OG, the Heater, fries, and their cheesecake. Everything was off the chain!!! They definitely get the FYE STAMP!

I absolutely loved this place. Very much a locals spot, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Dog friendly - provided the dogs are well behaved (and the two that were there at the same time as me definitely were. Fantastic, reasonably priced burgers, and very good fries. I had the Big Mack, I believe, sort of a reimagined Big Mac. The burgers were called "slap burgers" but they seemed like smash burgers, or at least that's what they're called in other cities. The pool table is free. We enjoyed that for a game and a half before our food was ready. Limited seating, but enough for the business. Colorful, nice patrons. The burger part took card. The bar only took cash, but there was an ATM with a reasonable $2.99 fee.

The food service is great the bartender Friday night at 11:00 pm March 22 was not polite she was kinda rude. So I decided not to order a drink. So I am guessing due to her attitude 1 out 3 people think she's is bitchy and don't order drinks. I don't know why she had an attitude usually I get great service. Great service on food side and they were in a good mood. The bartender must have had a bad night. I wish this hadn't of happened I can no longer recommend this bar due to this rude bartender. I got a single patty burger it was a good tasting burger.

Corner, neighborhood bar. Divey but definitely not sketchy. Friendly and fast service. $7 Irish coffees! And great jukebox. Unfortunately, I was too full to try the burgers. Maybe next time. Remember, cash only.

OG single patty with vegan Mac sauce

The food is always amazing I'm vegan and the burger is top tier the ambiance is straight and the service is amazing.

The Quad!

The slap burgers here are 10 out of 10! I got the single Heater and have no regrets, even if my stomach and mouth were hot for the next 12hrs. Loved every jalapeño in the stack and the spicy slap sauce. The bun was soft and held up to the burger. The single was plenty of burger for me and I'll probably stick with it in future visits. My dining partner completed the Quad challenge. And impressive 4 patty burger that gets your picture on the wall. The fries were solid and we tried an Oreo beignet which was tasty. I'm a big fan and look forward to my next slap! FYI, the bar is cash only so be sure to bring money for beers, cocktails and tips!

My husband and I saw this was close by and decided to give it a try! One of the BEST burgers I've had and their "Rum Punch" is better than a hurricane (in my opinion). We will definitely be back!

Do they really require vaccination cards 🤔? It's fine if they do... but I have family that are against showing this 🙄🙄🙄.... so I'm just curious.. don't jump on me for asking that 🤦🏼‍♀️

Vaccination cards are no longer required in New Orleans. You're good.

This building predates the United States, some saying it being built in the early 1770s. Some say it's the oldest bar in America but that's more legend than based on historical fact. This bar probably has the coolest story on the ghost tours as Jean Lafitte was a true character in New Orleans lore dating back to the 1700s. As far as what it's like today, you walk in and it's dark and eerie and is mostly illuminated by candlelight. This is a full service bar with both a pretty good sized bar area and also a section with tabletops and tables for patrons to enjoy along with countertops outside the bar for those who want to enjoy their drinks outside. Also in the back of this bar is a piano area where a piano player plays live music for the patrons multiple times a week in the evenings. As far as drinks go this place is definitely a tourist attraction and the drink prices do reflect that. They are famous for their "purple drink" and their "hurricanes". I ended up just having another local beer and I was just about tapped out on drinks by the end of this ghost tour. Overall this place is pretty awesome, especially if you take the time to learn the backstory and lore of this bar-some say it's haunted. A true must-visit.

According to the bartender, everyone in there was unwinding from their shifts and I guess couldn't be bothered. When I asked the girl next to me what book she was reading, you would have thought I accosted her. The bartender got really annoyed and told me I shouldn't talk to her. I don't know. I didn't realize I shouldn't ask someone reading in a bar at 1 am what she was reading. So after getting our drinks, we sat at a side table, away from the bar and were discussing how rude the bartender was and that's when the bartender said "she didn't like us" and that we should leave, which we gladly obliged because what the hell?
