I thought I reviewed this spot already. This is a hole in the wall neighborhood bar. Lots of locals stop in here. I stop here every trip to New Orleans and before I know it my whole afternoon is gone. Very basic alcohol selection with a few craft beers. They prefer cash but they do take card now. I pay cash because we are having one more and moving on. Never happens. I think we were here 3 hours last trip. Such friendly staff and patrons. Watching football n chopping it up. We probably spent maybe $30 drinking the Saturday afternoon away, made new friends. No food here so we end up leaving when we start starving and then end up coming back for a nightcap. Don't let the hole in wall appearance fool you. Worth the stop on your next trip. read more

When you're done having a drink at the oldest bar in the country, and done having a drink at the rotating bar, and done having the official drink of the city, and done drinking where famous people once drank, there's still a good chance your wallet will be lighter than your head, having drunk atmosphere instead of spirits. I think the one vodka cranberry at Chart Room had more alcohol than the others combined. She gave me the kind of pour reserved for people who live around the corner. Ulysses works here (he also works at the LIttle Bar, where we met him). He wasn't there the night we went, but we had a great time, and so happy they carry our favorite rum, Bumbu! The service is great, and so is the people watching. Great little local bar. We didn't have any food this trip. Will go back! read more

The Chart Room is a cool place to visit that isn't quite as touristy, it's akin to a dive bar where I'm from. The place has a lot of character. The staff was very nice, and you will find reasonably priced drinks. Definitely worth a quick stop in for a drink. They even have a few slot machines if you are feeling lucky. This place is the epitome of a dive bar. And it is so friendly and so open. You walk in and feel at home as soon as you come through the door. Pull up to the bar enjoy the ambience, and very unique fixtures. This place has been to hell and back you can tell by the walls in the ceiling but it has not lost it's charisma. We didn't eat here because I don't think that they have food. But then again I didn't look. If you are on a walking tour and you happen to go by this place stop in grab a shot, come back later for a beer to seat. read more

An absolute must on any visit to New Orleans. Right about sunset, stake out a space on the sidewalk with a beverage of your choice and just take it in. The people watching, the locals, the architecture . . . It's a timeless slice of the quarter. It's a top 5 dive bar, up there with the Green Parrot in Key West and the Atomic Liquors in Vegas. read more

Hitting the ground at midnight and making it to a top notch locals dive bar. At closing, the friendly bartender was nice enough to guide our lubricated souls to several other after hours bars that were very similar in feel. You'll bump into every walk of life here and be better for it. Prices are cheap and fair and I'll be back in my nest New Orleans trip. read more

5-star Dive par! This place screams character and is clearly a locals' hangout, which is why I was not surprised to hear it was cash only. No worries, they have an ATM in the back near the casino games. The drinks are strong, but the quality didn't knock me off my feet, so other than the unique ambiance, it's just another bar. It does come with entertainment however, watching the locals chill and the out of towners walk on eggshells was a bit fun. It seems good for one drink, although the staff aren't raising the charm flag, the prices are very reasonable. Cheers! read more

Its one of the best bars I've ever been to, and I am on the road a good bit. I didn't want to leave. The cast of characters is unprecedented, the locals and bartenders are friendly, prices are reasonable, you can gamble, sit in the street for top tier people watching - its got everything. This bar was a short two block walk from Bourbon Street. It offered friendly service, a small patio area, stiff drinks, and great drink prices. Chris (our bartender), was the type of person who immediately seemed like an old friend. He was laid back and attentive. The bar had the charm of a dive bar with a lot of history, including old pictures, currency from various countries, and a certificate on the wall showing a Chart Room bumper sticker onboard a space shuttle. This bar also has regulars who have been there every day for decades. Cool! They offered a few gambling machines, an old style juke box and a roller grill. Excellent! read more

My husband and I stumbled on this dive bar on a corner in the French quarter as it was right near our hotel. Drink prices were pretty reasonable (for the city) and the bartender was friendly. They only take cash but there is an atm). It's a small place with some outdoor seating. Honestly, it was pretty packed most nights. read more

CASH ONLY! Used to go here when I had friends that worked around the corner at Bacco. These days it's more of a special occasion stop when I'm in the quarter with out of town guests etc. I love the dark wood and nautical decor. There's always someone interesting to chat with here and the prices are reasonable. Just don't bring too many girlfriends with you to the bathroom or you-it's pretty small and the staff doesn't go for any of that nonsense. :) read more

This is THE locals bar in the French Quarter. It's a real dump & it's Cash only. It doesn't look like much but strange things happen here... One time I was hanging at the bar the local "Pirate" came in. He's a regular & is a real pirate, dresses like a real Pirate, carries a real sword. Not kidding at all. Ask anyone there. One night a local "taxi drive" went completely insane, took my drink away from me, drank my drink, said I was next & chased me down the street like 5 blocks till I finally lost him. We call this bar the Vampire Bar. By day it's the Chart Room, by night it's totally something else. Bloody cool place. Cheers. read more

There was a reason this simple bar was packed on Saturday afternoon, it is because they do it right. Quantity: Best drink deals you can imagine. Value: $4-6 for Beers. Cash only. Ambiance: The Chart Room is a dive bar a few blocks off Bourbon Street. A no frills spot that loves its regulars. Some stools around the bar as well as a few tables, but expect to find it standing room only. They have a few casino games and a jukebox in the back as well as two televisions. I've been visiting the Chart Room for several years now while visiting NOLA. Cash only, good pours (if your nice), small but comfortable and very laid back. I usually hang for a good bit and always meet some interesting folks to talk to. My first visit was almost 20 years ago. Prices aren't bad and the bartenders are friendly - you typically get what you give! BTW - the Jaywalkers parade usually starts assembling on Saturdays around 2:30 pm, so hang out and have a couple of cocktails. We were there in April of 2023 for our wedding anniversary and are going back in 2024. Remember, cash only!!! read more

Very friendly hostess greeted my parents and upon hearing they were headed to the bar, said "I could use a drink too", seemingly joking. When my parents received the bill, there was a shot of Jamison added to the bill. When they questioned it, they were told it was the drink for the bartender (though the bartender assured them the hostess doesn't drink while working). They saw the same situation happen to several others while they were there. read more

(Okay, not really, but you get my point.) Wendy was our bar mistress, and let me tell you -- she was a gem. Attentive, quick with a refill, and serving with a smile like she'd been doing this since the dawn of cocktails. The vibe was classic dive -- a mix of locals holding down their usual spots, some questionable neon signs, and that faint yet oddly comforting smell of stale beer mixed with a hint of nostalgia. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I make this my regular spot if I lived closer? Without a doubt. This place is the dive bar blueprint -- no frills, just good drinks, chill vibes, and the sweet hum of an overworked A/C.

There was a bar tender who was jamming some good tunes. It's definitely a relaxed and chill vibe. Nice that it's open late. The place was basically empty, so we had it to ourselves. You just go up yo the bar, bartender gives you a styrofoam plate and you fill that bad boy up and most of the time they tell you to fill it up where you can't close it. What you're getting are jumbo crawfish, half corn on the cob, sausage, and they all taste amazing with a kick. No frills just good authentic food.

So, I took the risk. ‍ The crawfish was too good to deny. They don't open their kitchen til midnight, but it was worth it. They also have amazing 2 for 1 drink deals. Right off the bat, after arriving on a Friday around 4:45 PM we were seated promptly, given water and the tastiest little sweet yeast rolls ever (the tops actually crackled when you squish them you guys), and made our bevvie choices. Tonic with lime for me (I'm behaving rn) and an Old Fashioned for wifey. Killer. We skipped the appetizer course and ended up ordering off the specials menu for both meals. She got braised brisket with deviled egg potato salad (fantastic!) and I got grilled Amberjack with roasted Brussels, topped with pickled peppers, onion, capers, and a drizzle of olive oil and Crema. Did I mention this place has a rustic atmosphere, and cozy feel, AND a Michelin recco without a dress code required?!? We had Lemon Buttermilk Icebox pie for dessert... MY GODS. This pile of words I just typed doesn't do this place justice. Chef Link has got something special going here, and his butcher shop next door is totally groovy too. I can't rave enough about this place, and I wish it wasn't so dang far from Texas, but hey, it's just another in a list of damn fine reasons to come visit the fine folks of NoLa again.

We ended up getting water from our server that brought us food as the bartenders were too busy making cocktails. There was a jazz band playing on Thursday night when we visited.
