The end of the bar in the back courtyard.

I usta stop by this bar quite a bit. Got kicked off an outside seating area that was empty on a 95° day when the bar was fairly empty.. The quarter is very slow right now. It's dead of summer unbelievably stifling hot and no one's outside Thanks , bartender because I sat down for five minutes??? you just lost a customer.

Great staff, prices so cheap it should be illegal, good music and a true dive bar experience. Definitely will be back the next time I'm in town.

It's a Cash Only bar! Not a problem, since they have an ATM available (though it is a quite old one and you need a flashlight to see the buttons, though a couple buttons didn't even work). One of my local friends is a regular here and brought our group in last night for some drinks after her show. It is a smaller establishment so I can see it could get cramped if it was busier, but luckily it was a slower night so it was easy to move around. They do not serve food here but their drinks are CHEAP! We bought a round for 7-8 people and the tab was less than $40. And they have some slot machine games, a jukebox, and some fantastic decor. If your on Decatur St, stop in for a drink just to get a taste of the local bar, but it isn't necessarily worth making a special trip.

I'm a sucker for a comfortingly dark, divey bar. Had a fun, drunken night with a buddy here last weekend. Crazy I had never been in before. The drinks are ridiculously cheap and quite strong. Had some rum and pineapple juice cocktails for only $4 a piece. Yeah, I know have weird taste. Would definitely go back and probably will.

Best combo's in town and my new favorite hole-in-the-wall bar of NO. I will be back to this 24*7*365 (no locks on the door) place. Bartenders were awesome and sat down to chat with our crazy crew. Told me that the back courtyard is open on Wednesdays when they do tacos out there (not sure why it isn't Taco Tuesday, but it is New Orleans!). The combos were Fireball, Tullamore DEW, and others (those were the only ones we got) with a 16-oz beer of PBR, Bud Light, Dos Equis, and others.

Bartender was hammered and rude as hell. What the heck? Unprofessional even for a dirty dive.

A unique experience that must be had in person. I go there every time I go to New Orleans.

Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar - "The purple drink"

The final stop on our ghost tour…read more This bar has truly legendary status when it comes to bars in the French Quarter. This building predates the United States, some saying it being built in the early 1770s. Some say it's the oldest bar in America but that's more legend than based on historical fact. This bar probably has the coolest story on the ghost tours as Jean Lafitte was a true character in New Orleans lore dating back to the 1700s. As far as what it's like today, you walk in and it's dark and eerie and is mostly illuminated by candlelight. This is a full service bar with both a pretty good sized bar area and also a section with tabletops and tables for patrons to enjoy along with countertops outside the bar for those who want to enjoy their drinks outside. Also in the back of this bar is a piano area where a piano player plays live music for the patrons multiple times a week in the evenings. As far as drinks go this place is definitely a tourist attraction and the drink prices do reflect that. They are famous for their "purple drink" and their "hurricanes". I ended up just having another local beer and I was just about tapped out on drinks by the end of this ghost tour. Overall this place is pretty awesome, especially if you take the time to learn the backstory and lore of this bar-some say it's haunted. A true must-visit.

NOLA is my second home, so I forget that even though I've frequented so many places I haven't…read morereviewed them. Case in point - Lafitte's. I've been coming here for years. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop was built in the 1770's. Dubbed the oldest bar in New Orleans, the building is said to be haunted by the ghost of Pirate Jean Lafitte. Employees & patrons claim to see his glowing red eyes in the fireplace. The dimly lit bar is illuminated by candlelight, lanterns, & a fireplace, which add to the mysterious ambience. If you are afraid of ghosts then you can enjoy your drink in the courtyard. Famous for their Purple Drank (aka VooDoo Daiquiri) and potent Hurricanes, which come in a plastic keepsake cup, it's a lively place to enjoy a libation. The bartenders are friendly and the prices are reasonable. My brothers and I stopped by during Southern Decadence. They had the Purple Drank & a Hurricane. I got a vodka soda. The DJ was fantastic, and people were dancing in the street cuz that's how they do it in the Big Easy.
