Wouldn't recommend this place for a place to a have a decent beer, yes they do have a good selection but the staffs sucks. Super rude as hell, dickish like they are way cooler than you. I personally believe if you are nice to the customer they will return. I've frequented many bars that are darkesk bars but come on now. I enjoy the underground/ punk rock style ( which I am) but come on seriously, grow up. Find a better place to get good service and good beer. Period.

Stopped in for a drink, great beer list! It was quiet but that's probably because we were here at 3pm on Christmas Eve. Would love to come back after Covid and see the place packed! Bathrooms are very clean and the music is pretty punk. Highly recommend!

We stopped in while exploring the area. It is a small place, but it has a pretty cool vibe. The bartender was super friendly. We had no idea what we wanted to order so we told him to surprise us. He made us a "traditional" New Orleans drink, Sazerac. It was like jet fuel & almost knocked us over, so we definitely got enough alcohol! They also had a pretty clean bathroom, so that's a bonus. Overall, a good experience.

Here for a pop-up Vietnamese Style Crawfish Event; we journeyed in to wait for the crawfish order to be ready. Basic bar, with seemingly familiar to the place 'bar flys' as I know this is a frequent stop during Mardi Gras Festivities. The crowd here on a Thursday night was plentiful, idk if that was because of the Crawfish or if this was the norm; either way, we blended in and enjoyed the night. Bartenders were friendly as were the patrons. Indoors there were 4-5 table & seating areas for you to cop-a-squat and be a lookie-lou or enjoy your company, whatever your pleasure. Lots of eclectic decor to feast your eyes on. Quite dimly lit, but it helps to set the mood though. Drink prices were fair & the drinks were tasty as well. I'm not a fan of game hunting and my hope is that the BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED RHINO HEAD on the wall near the restrooms was a fake.

Black Penny is one of those pubs we stumbled upon while walking the outlying layer of immediate Frenchman/Bourbon street core. We found it while perusing our way through Louis Armstrong National Historic Park. I instantly was smitten with Black Penny because it reminded me of a bar that would be in my neighborhood in MKE. Happy hour every day, spot on service and dog friendly were the hallmarks of this joint getting a five star rating from me. They also play vinyl and I can tell the Penny is about as hip and happening a spot as it can get in NOLA. It would be a got to for unwinding, if I lived in the area.

Stopped in for a quick beer which turned into two because I was told it was a $10 minimum. So sat down and was pleasantly surprised with the cute Asian goth bartender Kelsey and stayed for a couple more. Kelsey was super awesome and shenomenal!!!! She rocks!!!!! And she loves Saliva....bonus points!!!!!!! Did I mention that her photo is on the wall and had to grab a picture of that too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a nifty place to do some day drinking! We stopped here after our cemetery tour to grab a beer (and a water for my prego sister!). It was middle of the day, so there were a couple others there, but it was a nice quiet spot to relax and chill for a bit. Every time I looked around something new caught my eye. The bartender was friendly and the beer (my new fav-Abita Amber)was cold! Oh, and the bathroom was clean!

This building predates the United States, some saying it being built in the early 1770s. Some say it's the oldest bar in America but that's more legend than based on historical fact. This bar probably has the coolest story on the ghost tours as Jean Lafitte was a true character in New Orleans lore dating back to the 1700s. As far as what it's like today, you walk in and it's dark and eerie and is mostly illuminated by candlelight. This is a full service bar with both a pretty good sized bar area and also a section with tabletops and tables for patrons to enjoy along with countertops outside the bar for those who want to enjoy their drinks outside. Also in the back of this bar is a piano area where a piano player plays live music for the patrons multiple times a week in the evenings. As far as drinks go this place is definitely a tourist attraction and the drink prices do reflect that. They are famous for their "purple drink" and their "hurricanes". I ended up just having another local beer and I was just about tapped out on drinks by the end of this ghost tour. Overall this place is pretty awesome, especially if you take the time to learn the backstory and lore of this bar-some say it's haunted. A true must-visit.

Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop was built in the 1770's. Dubbed the oldest bar in New Orleans, the building is said to be haunted by the ghost of Pirate Jean Lafitte. Employees & patrons claim to see his glowing red eyes in the fireplace. The dimly lit bar is illuminated by candlelight, lanterns, & a fireplace, which add to the mysterious ambience. If you are afraid of ghosts then you can enjoy your drink in the courtyard. Famous for their Purple Drank (aka VooDoo Daiquiri) and potent Hurricanes, which come in a plastic keepsake cup, it's a lively place to enjoy a libation. The bartenders are friendly and the prices are reasonable. My brothers and I stopped by during Southern Decadence. They had the Purple Drank & a Hurricane. I got a vodka soda. The DJ was fantastic, and people were dancing in the street cuz that's how they do it in the Big Easy.

According to the bartender, everyone in there was unwinding from their shifts and I guess couldn't be bothered. I didn't realize I shouldn't ask someone reading in a bar at 1 am what she was reading. So after getting our drinks, we sat at a side table, away from the bar and were discussing how rude the bartender was and that's when the bartender said "she didn't like us" and that we should leave, which we gladly obliged because what the hell? Yes, we walked in drunk and happy, left drunk, confused, annoyed and slightly targeted. PS She also couldn't make a proper espresso martini.
