Bartenders are ready friendly! Super friendly! A local place! I recommend this place if you want something off the strip

Bouncer was incredibly rude and annoying. Drinks were meh. Also very small inside... Not an actual goth bar, feels veryyyy tacky. While you're in NOLA, if you want the real deal, go to the Goat!

We did not eat here, but we drank and danced and laughed and had the best time ever! If you love loud metal music in a dark, dungeon-like atmosphere, then this is for you! Our bartender was super fun and friendly! Great service! No photography allowed inside!

Unique hidden dive bar, with a jukebox that only requires $1 per song. It's a very small, narrow and dark bar. No pictures/ recordings allowed, which we found strange. Restrooms are a joke- don't expect much. The upstairs bar area was closed. The bartender seemed cool but then she screamed at a guy that was either attempting to take a picture or recording at the bar. I get it, pictures are not allowed but she was very rude and said a derogatory name to the customer.

Ask the Community - The Dungeon

Is Dungeon open now? I'm coming in from Los Angeles Halloween 🎃 weekend?

    It's open

Will the Dungeon be reopening soon?

I’m following. Is it open or closed now? We’re going mid July. Can’t find any information, updates or phone number

Just wondering why no pics allowed inside?

It used to be a sex club / BDSM dungeon in addition to a metal bar, so no pics were allowed because people were doing naughty things :)

    18+ or 21+?

    21 and up only

Pictures aren't allowed, so does that mean you can't bring your phone inside?

Yes, you can bring your phone in. They just watch for people taking pictures.

This building predates the United States, some saying it being built in the early 1770s. Some say it's the oldest bar in America but that's more legend than based on historical fact. This bar probably has the coolest story on the ghost tours as Jean Lafitte was a true character in New Orleans lore dating back to the 1700s. As far as what it's like today, you walk in and it's dark and eerie and is mostly illuminated by candlelight. This is a full service bar with both a pretty good sized bar area and also a section with tabletops and tables for patrons to enjoy along with countertops outside the bar for those who want to enjoy their drinks outside. Also in the back of this bar is a piano area where a piano player plays live music for the patrons multiple times a week in the evenings. As far as drinks go this place is definitely a tourist attraction and the drink prices do reflect that. They are famous for their "purple drink" and their "hurricanes". I ended up just having another local beer and I was just about tapped out on drinks by the end of this ghost tour. Overall this place is pretty awesome, especially if you take the time to learn the backstory and lore of this bar-some say it's haunted. A true must-visit.

Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop was built in the 1770's. Dubbed the oldest bar in New Orleans, the building is said to be haunted by the ghost of Pirate Jean Lafitte. Employees & patrons claim to see his glowing red eyes in the fireplace. The dimly lit bar is illuminated by candlelight, lanterns, & a fireplace, which add to the mysterious ambience. If you are afraid of ghosts then you can enjoy your drink in the courtyard. Famous for their Purple Drank (aka VooDoo Daiquiri) and potent Hurricanes, which come in a plastic keepsake cup, it's a lively place to enjoy a libation. The bartenders are friendly and the prices are reasonable. My brothers and I stopped by during Southern Decadence. They had the Purple Drank & a Hurricane. I got a vodka soda. The DJ was fantastic, and people were dancing in the street cuz that's how they do it in the Big Easy.

According to the bartender, everyone in there was unwinding from their shifts and I guess couldn't be bothered. When I asked the girl next to me what book she was reading, you would have thought I accosted her. The bartender got really annoyed and told me I shouldn't talk to her. I don't know. I didn't realize I shouldn't ask someone reading in a bar at 1 am what she was reading. So after getting our drinks, we sat at a side table, away from the bar and were discussing how rude the bartender was and that's when the bartender said "she didn't like us" and that we should leave, which we gladly obliged because what the hell? Yes, we walked in drunk and happy, left drunk, confused, annoyed and slightly targeted. PS She also couldn't make a proper espresso martini.
