This dive bar is a little too grungey for my taste, but it's a personal thing. The bartender was really sassy to one of the customers, calling them out publicly for not knowing where to order. It wasn't even directed at me, but I felt a bit of secondhand embarrassment for the customer. Like others have mentioned, this is pretty much a small, hole in the wall dive bar located across from Louis Armstrong Park. While waiting for a tour to start, my husband and I got some drinks and met some cool people. The ambiance is really chill, queer-friendly, the bartender was attentive and quick, and the walls have pretty cool features/decor to check out. Important to note: no food, just drinks. The service and mood in this place is A1. In addition to being queer-friendly and -frequented, the prices are reasonable and they have a wide range of drink options (everything from typical dive bar fare to specialty cocktails and THC/CBD beverages, too). I've had a great time here every time, and talking to the bartenders has been a fun time, too! one huge bonus I'd give this place is motherfucking Joanne. She's a badass bartender, so smart, uproariously funny, and a great community member. After my last visit there, I had gotten a flat tire and within 2 hours, Joanne had called in her partner and they both, free of charge, changed out the new tire and made it so I made it work on time. this was not something i expected, of course, and I was truly floored not just by their insistence on helping but also their refusal to take compensation for it. I love this city and Joanne and her partner are huge reasons as to why. I would come back whenever, the vibes are chill, the drinks are good, and the people (both working and buying) are fun and cool. One of my favorite bars in New Orleans. It's open 24/7, the bartender was friendly, and you can get craft beers for only $5. It's inn the French Quarter, right in front of Louis Armstrong Park, a few streets away from Bourbon St. Personally I much preferred coming here over going to Bourbon, much cheaper and a cooler vibe. It's just down the block from Black Penny, another favorite bar of mine with similar cost and vibe. We came to Voodoo Lounge because it was the meeting place to go on our haunted ghost and vampire walking tour one night during our vacation. They offered two for one on there sweet tasty hurricanes. Loads of DVDs were piled on shelves, and at least three or four televisions were playing fun stuff like Scooby Doo episodes or Point Break starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. I love when bars have their own unique flavor to them by adding personalized touches like playing oldies like that on the boob tube instead of just televised sports. The place started filling up as the time to leave for the walking tour approached. Eventually there were around 30 people standing around the bar. It seems like if you hung out at the voodoo lounge possibly a few times a day groups of 30 people would appear and disappear in a half an hour get ready to leave and meet. Seems kind of fun get a good seat at the bar and experience that for a few hours as the crowds come and go. Good times! read more

This was the meeting spot before a ghost and vampire tour. I arrived an hour before to take advantage of the two-for-one hurricane deal prior to. The bartender (I wish I remembered his name) was awesome! Very friendly and personable, and he even thought to wait to put ice in my second hurricane until tour time so that it wouldn't water down before and gave me fresh ice right before leaving. Apparently this place is open 24 hrs so I guess that's a good thing. We weren't complaining when we decided to go get drinks for a 10AM tour (don't judge us, it was 5PM somewhere). They offered 2 for 1 Hurricanes which was $12 for people taking tours.. you can take that as you want since they both end up coming out to $6 a piece. ‍ This is pre-made which sucks a bit but it didn't take away the flavor. I was a little skeptical about how much ice he put in our cups.. literally filled the cup up with ice and then poured the drink. This is the hangout location for the French Quarter Phantoms tour, so you can get 2 for 1 hurricanes while you wait for your tour to begin. It's a great little dive bar with plenty of space for a tour to assemble. When we were there, the gentleman behind the bar was a great source of entertainment. He was friendly and funny, and more than willing to talk to us out-of-towners even though we really peppered him with more questions than would probably be considered polite. It was pouring rain outside, so he suggested we get some extra rain gear from the tour company (which definitely came in handy as tours are rain or shine), and served us the pre-mixed hurricane drinks to enjoy while we waited. If you are drinking just one of the hurricanes, it's fine. It's not sickly sweet, nor is it particularly strong. If you start drinking another, you might start to have problems. Not the fall off your stool variety, but you definitely need some water. I don't know if they use a powdered mix or what, but my throat felt like a desert after the first drink, and one of my friends noticed it as well. Make sure you stay hydrated, and then you'll be happily on your way to your tour, and of course you can take the beverage with you to enjoy on your way (although if you're taking the cemetery tour, make sure it's completed before you enter). read more

Solid local hangout. Not many bells or whistles but it has a great whisky selection and a solid crew of bar tenders manning all 24 hours of day and night. They rotate the beer selection between some of our favorite local breweries. Very dog and pup friendly. If you don't have a dog what are you doing with your life? Probably any animal friendly so long as they behave on leash. They've usually got a treat for the furry friend and don't be surprised if the pup gets served before you do. It gets busy during tourism season(most the year) during the day time hours of the French Quarter Phantom ghost tour. This is the meet up place and don't forget to grab a house made daiquiri for the walk. Side note. Be aware of the early morning hour visitors. Some of them are harmless sheep but others think they're wolves. This should go without saying be weary of leaving valuables on/under the bar, after all your in New Orleans. read more

So it seems the Saints & Sinners Tour brings many into this lounge, just as it did us. When we popped in, there were a few sitting at the bar, seemed to be locals. One lady was having shot after shot. Another lady came in to fill her tumbler with some coffee liquor mixture then rolled out. Both were friendly and talkative but it seems this bar is more of a local dive type place. Me personally? I love a good dive! People are friendly, usually have chill bartenders, drinks are cheap though there isn't a huge selection of beers, there's enough. All of those points apply to VooDoo Lounge. I had a local beer that was on the board and was surprised it was given to me in a can. Then I checked out behind the bar, didn't look like they had any beers on tap. Sad. Either way, cool place to grab a drink away from the madness of Bourbon Street but not all that far from it really. Take in the locals and do some electronic gambling if you so fancy! read more

Took the ghosts and vampires tour last night, and all I can say is... wow! So much history in this town and the stories behind the most haunted city in the country didn't disappoint! The tour was made that much more enjoyable by our incredible tour guide, Adelai (ask for the guide with the blue hair). She was so performative with her tour and you could really see the passion for what she does every time she spoke to us about any of our destinations!! 10/10 would highly recommend! Honestly, I have never had a hurricane before but I was not impressed with this overly sweet concoction...and I usually like sweet drinks. It tasted like pure syrup and I couldn't even taste any of the supposed alcohol nor did it seem to have much of an effect on me and I'm a lightweight. The only reason we even ended up getting the hurricanes is because we had just finished the St. Louis cemetery walking tour and had BOGOs with our wristbands. We were going on the St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 tour and were instructed to meet here. It's a bit of a walk outside of the main French Quarter but it was a cooler November morning so we did not mind. Once we got there you walk to the back to sign in and grab your drink tickets, this is also where the bathroom is located, there is only one but it's unsexed. They offer a 2 for 1 Hurricane drink deal for $12 before the tour starts so the placed was packed while everyone was trying to take advantage. The hurricane was a pre-mixed concoction in plastic pitchers but was decently good! The bartender was awesome and worked quick and efficiently. Open 24 hours. We went here at 10 am for some A/C and a drink. Don't judge, it was about 90 degrees with 90% humidity and we'd walked from Decatur to Rampart streets. We had earned that beverage. The bathroom is unisex and there is only one. Luckily, it was really quiet at 10am and there was no line for the bathroom. They don't have tappers, only bottles and cans but that's even better some times. The bartender was really chatty and friendly. Turns out most of the employees have a geek of some kind (comics, anime, science fiction) and we enjoyed chatting with everyone while we cooled off and steeled ourselves for another trek through the Quarter. read more
