Was driving by and wanted to find a breakfast spot where I could eat alone and not feel weird. I saw Dash Cafe and thought it looked like a quaint spot that met my goals. I walked in and there were tons of workers. Just one person eating inside at 945am on Saturday. They had a massive menu with a variety of foods but the brunch was what I was looking for. I wish I took a picture of the menu. Seems like they change it each week. I ended up with the Eggs Benedict with bacon. It was not anything like a traditional Eggs Benedict. It was topped with two poached eggs, bacon, tomatoes, avocado and some bread (English muffin like) but with jalapeños! What a surprise! It was good but I didn't love it. I had a few sandwiches from this place during work. Both grilled beef sandwich and Reuben are great. I am very pick about my Reuben and I was happy with the order from here, not the best I have had but edible at least. It is about 11 bucks per sandwich which is not super cheap but not expensive either. This is our go to place to order food from during long night shifts or lunch breaks. read more

The salads here are huge,delicious and VERY fresh. The staff is always friendly and the place is comfortable and clean. Free lemon water available when you eat there. It's not waited service, just order at the counter (And they have lots of options) take a seat and they call your name. I've been coming here for years and the consistency with their food has never changed. Perfection! That's always been an important quality for me with any restaurant. Sad day. My husband and I live in the neighborhood and used to be regulars here dating back 4+ years. Lately we've found ourselves going less and less and today will be our last time. Since the original owners sold it a year or so ago, we've watched the prices slowly creep up, which wouldn't keep us away if the quality didn't slowly start to go down with it. The last few trips have just been "ok" quality wise. Today we ordered two sandwiches and waited 35 minutes. It was a little busy but I've seen it much worse. That gave me plenty of time to watch 4 of the 5 guys handling everything from the phone to an iPad, scratching their noses, and then touching the food with no gloves. Lots of long hair and facial hair and some without hats or nets. That's enough to keep me away, however the worst was getting home and realizing the bagels were burnt and hardly had a tiny bit of egg and cheese. Small and cute cafe with delicious food! I ordered the carne asada burrito and fries with garlic aioli sauce for lunch. Yummy! I attended with a group of 6 so we ordered quite a bit. As a result, the waiter may have just been overwhelmed, but some of our orders were not cooked properly (i.e. a salad that was not supposed to have bacon, cane with bacon). The waiter was very good at correcting the problems and had a great attitude. The patio is a great place to enjoy lunch in the afternoon, but get there early so you can find seating. read more

This was our first meal out after a long day of unpacking and it was also our first meal out in Boston! We came upon Dash Cafe while just walking around looking for Lunch and thought sandwiches and salads sounded refreshing! We ordered the Bahn Mi with Pork and a Asian Chicken Salad. (Next time I'll have to try the Asian Fried Chicken Sandwich- apparently it's all the rage!) The ice tea here is unsweetened and SO DELICIOUS! Perfect for summer weather! We sat in the back where there is a very small patio- it's very cute. Our meals came in about ten minutes or so. We were blown away by how both the sandwich and the salad were so well done! The tastes were superb and the ingredients were just fresh and delicious! Couldn't have asked for a better first meal! Price isn't too bad either. So let me just say I have my own Food Page and blog not only on FB (Big Will vs Food!!!), but in Twitter and Instagram (Big_Will_vs_Food). I have to say I have been here a few times and must admit I am amazed every time. Not only is the staff pleasant, but the place alone is so friendly. Now let's move over to the food. Now although they are surrounded by many other places I have visited they bring their own steps to the dance. I mean put it this way... I tried something simple just to see what kind of game they came with, because TRUST me even places I have tried that should know how to make these screw it up. I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla and I could not believe the flavor I found in it. It was like so many flavors were having a salsa dance as I ate. WHAT A WONDERFUL DANCE!!!! The chicken was not over powering because believe it or not you can overfill these things. The cheese Quesadilla where cooked perfectly. Not overdone till it was charred but perfectly melted cheese with just enough toppings to eat every section. The thing is you really didn't want to put the toppings on because the flavor was impeccable. My hats off to Dash Cafe you now hold a high rank in my book and since I work in the hospital and use other places in the area to cater my hospital events well you have just shot up on my list. I love walking in and checking out local dining spots and dash cafe is one of them. They have a pretty extensive menu including salads, sandwiches and baked goods placed out that look pretty delicious. I tried the Asian crispy chicken sandwich and the beef sandwich. I really liked the Asian crispy chicken. It has pretty good flavor and the chicken is tender and crispy. I didn't love the beef sandwich as much. It was a little too spicy for me and I didn't really like the beef in it. The sauce seemed to overpower the flavor of the sandwich. With such an extensive menu, I'll probably be back to try something else. read more

Came here with coworkers and - let me tell you - it made my week! I got the Herb Grilled Chicken sandwich which was absolutely delicious. First, let me say that I have been a customer for 6 years. I called to place a take out order and inquired if face coverings were being worn during food preparation. I was told yes. During in-store pickup I found the owner herself in the kitchen with a mask protecting only her chin but not her mouth and nose. We have a pandemic. There are state orders how to run a restaurant business including face masks. It matters what you do when the customer isn't looking. Face masks should not be down. in the kitchen area, but only when anybody who comes into contact with food is on a break outside the food prep area only. Eating and drinking with masks down in the same area where food is being prepared is not acceptable. I didn't pick up my order that day, and I am sorry I can no longer support your local business. Time for Dash's annual performance review! Food: 5/5, as always. My current kick is the southwestern salad with grilled beef. These salads take even the most voracious salad eater a good 15 minutes to finish. The sandwiches are also always amazing, with the infamous Asian fried chicken sandwich. Coffee: Glorious. Enough said. Service: 4.5/5, with a caveat. The secret is out that Dash is the bee's knees. Lunch time walk ins may be met with a 15-20 minute wait, and take out may be 25-30 minutes. Plan ahead accordingly. Also, not open on Sundays -- but you gotta take a break once in a while, right? I get you guys. People: 5/5. Pretty sweet. I love Dash. So much. Everything I've ever gotten from there has always been great. Until today. Look at these sweet potato fries. They're literally burnt to a crisp. It's funny that this place is named 'Dash Cafe' because pretty much the only thing it ISN'T is fast. Maybe they should rename it "Inertia Cafe" because it has momentum, and 'cause it's probably going to steamroll other Brighton restaurants in the future. I have an esteemed friend from Washington, DC who speaks marvels of the Boston burrito scene (he makes note of stopping at the likes of Boloco, Anna's, Boca, El Palon, etc. when he's up here). Well, they can all piss off, because the best burrito I've had in Bostonia came from Dash Cafe - and burritos aren't even this places' specialty. So on the speed thing, yeah, you gotta call about fifteen minutes ahead to pick up. You can order while you're there, but you'll probably be double-parked - this may cause you to crap your pants, as there's a police station across the way. So call ahead, okay? Oh ya, and this is going to cost about ten clams no matter what you're getting, so you should know that going in (a couple $$ less for the smaller stuff, like burritos). The thing is, you'll get what you paid for. Dash actually seems like it's just some ongoing experiment where the world's top chefs just make whatever lunch food they want. Quantity is solid, and ingredient quality is off the charts (no pale-ass tomatoes or hard avocados here). The flavors always make sense - none of those weird it's-got-all-the-hip-ingredients mashups that leave you confused and questioning your place in life. And it's been true of everything I've had - you could throw a dart at the menu and get anything and still walk away happy. Hope this place keeps it up - but I know it will. It was exactly the place I was looking for, except....The service on this day was terrible. First, when I approached the counter to place an order, I noticed the large menu above and took a second to review it before deciding what I wanted. The man at the counter stood there and glared at me with a "well, we're waiting" look. Not a very welcoming feeling. After placing the order, it took a solid 25 minutes for two salads to come out. Yes, the place was busy, so I understand, but when I went to the pick-up counter to check, the woman behind the line wouldn't even make eye contact. It was definitley a "I know your food is taking forever but I'm not going to acknowledge you", ignore. Ok... Lastly, when two salads did come out, one was in a bowl and the other was in a to-go box, becuase they didn't have any clean bowls left. Really?? A few weeks later and I'm still dreaming about the steak salad. Best steak salad ever! Cooked medium rare, plentiful protein portions, crispy shallots, and the right amount of balsamic vinaigrette and bleu cheese. SO GOOD. I've never been so excited to write about salad before and quite frankly, it's the best salad I've had in a loooong time. The tofu salad is great too - hearty and a great blend of flavors. Love that they included green onion in this one. These are the kinds of salads that would inspire people to eat healthier! Whoever created the flavor profiles know what they're doing - I hope they're consistent with the rest of their salads and sandwiches. Prices are more than reasonable - ranging from $7-12 with generous portions. I've had less tasty salads for more $$ at spots like SweetGreen. Can't wait for my next visit to try the sandwiches and for more salad! Ladies and gents, this is food you should have before your spring getaways! read more

This review is based solely on the tofu sandwich and one hot summer day in July. The sandwich is incredible, it's so refreshing to find a place that serves tofu that isn't a thai restaurant. However, having been inside I can say that I will not be coming back. The woman who was cooking was so unbelievably rude to her employees that I can't come back. Because finally somebody has got it right: fresh food, fair prices, calming ambiance, top shelf coffee, and friendly staff. And it's open until 7pm which means I can get healthy take out in Brighton now too, YAY! I plan on trying everything on the menu at least once... ONCE I get past the amazing the huevos rancheros I had for brunch. Probably the best ever, killing me softly with its refried black beans and homemade chile sauce topped with cotija cheese. Grilled vegetable panini (4.75 stars) - generous slices of fresh vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, onions, etc) with a perfect combo of cheese, delicious pesto dressing, and toasted bread with the perfect chewiness with nice crunch on the edges. Asian chicken salad (4.75 stars)- generous portion of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, almonds, tangerines, etc with a very tasty dressing that was not too heavy nor too sweet. I scarfed own the whole thing. Tried this place on a whim, and it was a great choice. The menu here boasts a ton of fresh salads, wraps and sandwiches, many of which seem to have a slight Asian/Vietnamese theme. I opted for the Asian chicken salad which was filling and delicious. Next time I'll try the banh mi or bun cha. What a find! I went with my boyfriend and a friend during the lunch hour. I got the carne asada burrito--not spicy at all, which is great for me because I don't like spicy food. Boyfriend got the turkey panini + he loved it. Friend got soup special + Asian salad. We all split the garlic fries--soooo tasty and big enough to split. All of our bills were under $12! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dash Cafe! I wish I had discovered it sooner. The employees are patient, kind and helpful and they remember your name! I have a dairy allergy and they are always willing to check ingredients and help me figure out what I can eat from the menu - and they are nice about it (which is rare). The food is excellent. And fresh. I mean, it's really freakin' good! So far I've sampled the Bahn Mi, a couple different soups of the day, the Bun Cha, the chicken salad sandwich, and the herbed grilled chicken breast sandwich. Oh, and the GARLIC FRIES!!!! Which are basically some fries served with a ton of fresh garlic and parsley and they are fantastic (but be warned, if you take them back to your office to eat, your co-workers will know what you've been up to because they smell so good!). So far, there is nothing on the menu that isn't great. The ingredients are fresh and the dishes are well prepared. I live right around the corner from this place and Dash Cafe is the fourth establishment to rent the space since I moved into the neighborhood... three years ago. That's a lot of turnover! I'm happy that this place has stuck it out, and that people seem to be in favor of it. Brighton Center definitely needed a nice little cafe to visit, as it's mostly just pizza, bar food, bar drinks, and Dunkin'. No, thank you. But yes, please to their sandwiches! The Asian Chicken is something that I actually find myself craving after a few weeks without one, and it's so refreshing to see a menu that has some thought put into it. It's tough for small business owners, especially food-oriented ones, and their location has proven to be inhospitable to a number of different venues prior to Dash. So keep on showing Dash your love, keep on spreading the word, and Dash staff? Keep on making such great bites. read more

After two years of trying most of the salads and sandwiches, and never hitting a dud, I tried the Eggs Benedict for the first time this morning. The cornbread played so nicely with the avocado. The eggs were PERFECTLY poached. The hollandaise was creamy but not gluey. The ham was tender enough to cut with a fork. Every bite was a terrific combination of flavors and textures. Okay, you know how there's a massive gulf between when you go to a restaurant and it's "good" and when you go to a restaurant and it's "amazing"? Dash Cafe is amazing. No doubt. Went for brunch yesterday and got the eggs benedict. The dish is essentially eggs benedict with bacon on top of slices of tomato and avocado on a jalapeno corn bread. Very messy but fantastic. My friend and I decided to visit this place for a nice Saturday morning breakfast, but it was probably my worst breakfast experience. I ordered the waffles with strawberry compote while my friend ordered the breakfast burrito. The burrito arrived, my friend ate it, and my waffle still wasn't ready. The cafe wasn't even swamped with customers (2 to be precise!). After a really long wait, my waffles finally arrived! To my disappointment, it was soaked in the compote which made it soggy. Not to mention the huge dollops of whipped cream on top of it. I tried to eat a few bites because I hate wasting food (and money!) but it was very unappetizing.
