After some deliberation, I went for the smoked salmon, avocado and egg sandwich! I had just come off a red-eye flight and man... that thing HIT THE SPOT! It was probably the best smoked salmon sandwich I have had. The bread was so FLUFFY and soft, and the eggs were buttery, which paired really well with the avocado and the spread they used. I would highly recommend! It was the perfect size, and I was satisfied after having it. Seating was self serve, as you just take the Number placard to any table you find available. They serve you the food when it is ready. The service was pretty quick (~10-15 min), given that it was pretty busy on a Monday morning. You can grab a cup of water at their self-serve station. They also had wifi with a pretty strong connection (big plus in my book). Overall, I would go back for certain! I would like to try the whole menu if I could because everything looked so good!

The donut and banana bread were also very tasty but I didn't get to eat enough of them to feel as strongly about them as I do the strawberry tea cake. I think it's assume you can't go wrong with anything you can purchase from Butternut Bakehouse,... Enjoy! The ambiance was full of energy with friendly staff and happy customers. He shouted out that she had "contaminated" the drink and he would make a new one for the correct customer. This was all said in a loud, actorly voice so that everyone in the shop could know that He Was Displeased. Note, the "contamination" consisted of the woman a) holding the cup of hot chocolate and, b) walking to her table with it. On a previous occasion, he yelled at an older woman in her 90s because she needed to sit down on a chair while he was sweeping. He snidely told her that she should go outside if she needed to sit. Her confusion about the seating was understandable, because for some unknown reason the cafe needs to close a full hour before the bookshop (and they begin this process earlier even than that, by "helpfully" putting away the chairs and turning off the lights). I guess they sell some croissants and coffee, but honestly: who cares, given the above?

She also made my coffee in a unique way which really surprised me. They have a giant jug of iced coffee that they keep in the bottom cabinet, instead of having drip or brew. The coffee itself was pretty decent, though. My ham and cheese crepe was okay but there was not enough ham or cheese, it was mostly just egg. My friend's portion was also small but the food was good. And the sweet sauce they put on it was horrendous. My stomach hurt the entire day. If you're not going to use quality bagels and quality bacon, you should not be charging almost $13 a sandwich. your menu should also list the ingredients line by line.
