We stopped by Praline on a Saturday morning. It was not too busy, so we took our time deciding what to order. We ended up getting the paris-brest and Almond Pear Tart. The paris-brest had a pretty thick cream while the pastry itself was soft. Although the hazelnut flavor was quite prominent, it was not too sweet. The almond pear tart stole the show. It tasted as gorgeous as it looked. The tart itself was soft and buttery. The pears and almond blended perfectly without overpowering one another. Same as the other pastry, this was not too sweet. I have been on the hunt for mariage freres tea and this bakery is the only place that sells it! I spoke with one of the owners (I think) and he is Moroccan so he is very knowledgeable about tea. He gave me a few suggestions so I got a few boxes for my friends and I. The tea bags cost $30, which is the same price as online. Very thankful he doesn't upcharge on the tea even though he totally could!! A delectable French patisserie that reminds me of my days in Paris. I'm lucky to have Praliné within easy reach. It's been a pleasure being their customer for several years now, with such kind owners and staff. Their cozy little shop has glass cases of pastries, macarons, and fresh croissants (and other viennoisseries), alongside a shelf of imported teas, jams, and other treats. You can pick up a hot coffee or tea and sit at one of the couple counter spots. But I'm usually here for the baked goods. I come for macarons, which are naturally gluten free worth that crisp shell and chewy interior. The quality can sometimes differ between flavors and the particular day, but generally they are quite good. My favorite flavors are the creamy espresso, tart black current violet, and tangy mango passion fruit. For those who freely enjoy gluten, the croissants are flaky and buttery, especially the one with chocolate (pain au chocolat). I've gotten several of the case pastries as special treats for birthdays and housewarmings, and they've always been crowd pleasers, especially the opera cake and various tarts. When I want particular flavors of jam that I can't get in the regular grocery store, like chestnut/marron or golden plum/mirabelle, I know I can pick it up here (Bonne Maman or another brand). They also carry Mariage Frère and another French brand of loose leaf tea. I do wish they carried baguettes (they did a long while back), but no matter. I've had Praline bookmarked for ages and am so glad I finally had an opportunity to try this little bakery in Belmont. We came later in the day and, while some of the offerings looked to have been sold out, I was happy to see the thing that I wanted to try the most, the hazelnut opera cake, still available. It's a small piece for about $6-7 but undeniably worth it. The craftsmanship is insane. I counted about four separate layers, beautifully clean and precise, each one requiring its own set of ingredients and technique. Opera cake is one of those things I've resigned to never being able to make myself - the layers are sponge, buttercream, ganache, and a crispy bottom. Talk about a hefty GBBO challenge. This one was so good I had to restrain myself from gobbling the whole thing and took back half of it for my husband to try. They also offer a number of imported treats and snacks, including Bonne Maman (aka, the maker of my favorite jams) chocolate caramel tartlets. I'll have to try the macarons and croissants next but ... that opera cake is still calling my name. The owner was kind enough to reach out and replace this order. Got to try three croissants this time--almond, chocolate, and plain. These seemed like a quintessential French buttery croissant (though I haven't had the pleasure of trying them out of the oven in the morning). The plain and chocolate were particularly flaky and puffy, and the almond has a good amount of almond paste and crispy sweet crunchy almond over the top. Most importantly, we were able to get those great flavors we previously expected, without the strange cleaner flavor we got last time. The owner says they rectified the situation and I'm glad to confirm that that does indeed seem to be the case. A tip: It's a good idea to call ahead and set things aside before you head over. Quite a few times they've run out of some items I've been interested in when I showed up, most recently the Paris best, ham and cheese croissant, and today I had the last almond. It was Sunday afternoon and we were looking for a cute pastry shop with coffee. I had previously stopped by for Macarons and coffee, both of which were excellent, so I decided to stop by again. This time I tried a cappuccino as well as half a raspberry passion fruit tart and half of an apple pastry. They were both delicious. The tart was a bit on the expensive side at almost $10, but it was worth it. The fruit was fresh and sweet, and the consistency was just exquisite. You would take a bite and it felt like it melt on your mouth. The apple pastry was crunchy on the outside and the apple jelly in the middle was flavorful. The coffee was nothing out of the ordinary but it was good. The attendant was friendly and quick. She made a few recommendations on other savory treats we can try next time. I seek out kouign amann wherever I am as most French bakeries do not offer it, especially on the west coast. There are many French bakeries in the Boston area that do offer it and I've tried several Praline's were quite small but very very scrumptious. Their other offerings looked good but were also small. This is hands down my favorite bakery and it's kinda a hidden gem because not a lot of people know about it. I still love my Tatte and Tous Les Jours, etc but no place makes tarts/cakes that taste as exquisite as Praline. Being Asian, finding non-Asian dessert is tricky because it needs to be sweet but not too sweet, so most chocolate goodies and many cakes are not an option for me. But Praline is perfection - the pear almond tart is to die for and my personal favorite, I love lemons so the lemon tart is a must order for me, raspberry/passion fruit tart is well balanced and great as well (and I normally don't like either flavors), and I actually enjoy the chocolate caramel tart which is super indulgent and smooth without being sickeningly sweet! All essentially for free (if you factor in the fact that you don't need the plane ticket and hotel costs of actually going to France!). A simple croissant has a light and shatteringly crispy crust. The individual quiche-tart is light as a cloud and overflowing with fresh flavor. The macarons? OMG. The colors dazzle the eyes as much as the flavors entrance the taste buds. Pro tip - clear your palate with water before taking a bite. Then close your eyes and let the flavors slowly unfurl. The currant and violet - so amazing. A concentrated punch of currant with the whisper of violet lightly rising up from the depths. The chocolate? Deep and rich - the mother lode of chocolate essence. You owe it to yourself to try their Thé Mariages Frerés. Ask for their recommendation and then go for it - you'll be happy you did. I had the Marco Polo with soy milk and honey crystals. Unbelievable, as good as the best pastry shops in France. They put just the right amount of sugar; I don't like heavily sugared desserts they sell almost everywhere. These are refined desserts, perfectly executed. You can see people put their time, energy, skill and pride into creating these pastries and cakes. Yes, they are a bit on the expensive side, but I would rather save and order once a week from here than have many random desserts from other places. Oh the chef grew up in France and went to French pastry school, I guess that counts too.... Praline is one of the more authentic french pastry bakeries I've come across, down to the almond croissants and macaroons. Cookies, teas, tarts, cakes....there's even a few crepe options available, made to order. It would take a least a dozen visits before you had a chance to taste all the wonderful creations of Praline. With a name like Praline, I expected to walk into an ode to everything New Orleans. Nope...this is Parisian through and through. One thing I like about the party here is they don't add too much sugar. All the pastry here is not sweet at all. Picked up some food from Praline on Saturday morning. The Croissant is definitely the way to go here, but expect prices to be high. Quality: Grabbed a few items for breakfast at Praline. The Croissant Ham & Cheese was the the better of the two items I tried. A nice flaky pastry with rich swiss cheese and smoky ham inside. While it is a bit pricey, it was very good. I was less impressed with the Spinach Quiche. I felt neither the consistency or the flavor wholly worked. I don't know if I picked the wrong option with spinach, but the interior felt too soft and almost watery. Quantity: Decent size portions. Value: $8 for the Croissant Ham & Cheese. $8 for the Spinach Quiche. Ambiance: Praline is a small bakery located in the Watertown area of Boston. They are a little shop without any seating. A bag of madeleines comes with five buttery madeleines that melt in your mouth. It is moist, not too light nor dense, and not too sweet! I genuinely savored each one. Macarons are my favorite dessert item and I have tried bouchon, laduree, etc. And these are definitely on par with bakeries that are internationally famous. The shell is perfectly chewy and crispy. There is a perfect amount of filling. The filling itself has robust flavors. And it's also not too sweet! I've been wanting to come here for quite some time, but every time I find myself in the area, it's been on a Monday, when the store is closed. The decor inside is clean, and I like the white and avocado-green wall paint that's inside of the store. Some may find the decor too unimaginative, though. There's no seating area to speak of, unfortunately. Service was friendly, though perhaps overly enthusiastic for some. It was almost as if the owner wanted to explain everything, even though it was unnecessary. Consider the following dialogue: Me: I'll take a kouign-amann, please. Owner, You know what it is, right? Me: Yes, I've had them before. Owner: [proceeds to explain what they are] Me: -_- The kouign-amann here is pretty good, though different from other places (such as Flour). It's not that blossoming shape, but a circular swirl like a cinnamon bun. Additionally, Praline's version has a syrup surrounding it, whereas other places have it more flaky texture on the outside like a croissant. I might like Flour's a little more but this one comes close. The plain croissant is pretty sizable and has the right texture for a legitimate croissant. However, it was likely baked at too high of a temp. While the inside was airy, the outside was a bit charred. Yeah, it was flaky, but there was more-than-a-hint of burnt flavor to it. Also, this croissant is straight and not curved (Yelper points out that straight = butter and curved = margarine). I guess I like Clear Flour's more, but this one wasn't bad. The madeleine was pretty moist and had a good hint of vanilla. I've had others that overdo it with the vanilla and the cake is bone dry. The raspberry and praline hazelnut macarons? I gave them to someone special, so I can't tell you how they tasted. Let's just say they had a positive evaluation. read more

This place is super cute and the people there are so sweet. My kids are macaroon addicts and connoisseur of the art. We ventured over here and they were pretty impressed by their selection and taste.While I think you can not compare the lavender or pistachio to Burdick's, this shop comes pretty darn close to the delicateness of those flavors. Another wonderful aspect is the handmade chocolates - they are beautiful and I am told, by my hubby whom I bought a heart shaped one for, they are delicious. It's Damien's fault, I tell ya. I had this place bookmarked, but his recent trip review is what caused me to pull the trigger. Praline is located on Belmont Street on the Belmont side of the road, the last of a series of 7 businesses counting from where Grove Street hits Belmont Street. The parking in front of the stores are limited to an hour. Further off, the street parking rules might differ. It is a bakery with counter service, and seats counting two to a window for a total of four. A plate of quartered macaroons sat on the counter, from which I was welcomed to sample. However, my eye turned towards the glass covered stands to my right, and I went home with two each of the $2.50 canneles and financiers, for the grand sum of $10. The financiers $2.50 were soft and tender. Personally I prefer something chewier to the cakey-ness of theirs, but the flavor was good. Their Canneles $2.50 were my first experience with the French treat. Though rather small, the chewy outer crust with the softer center were a fun experience, and I enjoyed them the better of the two. read more
