First time to Das Stein Haus but I have heard of this German cuisine restaurant.. when you walk in it spits into two doors left to the bar and right to dining.. wife chose dining this night... the restaurant was clean and low noise.. people are packed in but booths are available.. we were seated and the waitress was very kind and informative as I had many questions of the menu and the waitress was patient and kind to help me thru... I settled for the German combo platter and the wife ordered beef stroganoff ... we both had a side of clam chowder which was surprisingly good... I hit quite a few clam chuncks with just the right balance of potatoes.... my plate came with a baked potatoe which was good. The sauerkraut was good the sausages were good and the pork patties with gravy was dynamite... lots of food maybe not enough sauerkraut because it was good and very tasty the sausages were flavorful and the meal was well worth it! The wife said the beef stroganoff was good I was to hill and into my plate to try it... all and all great food great service and a definite need to try out... read more

Glad I ignored my gut instincts this time. We had these guys during Oktoberfest at the Convention Center a few years back, and they were pretty mundane. I chalked that up to cooking very macro for the event, but it still kept me reluctant to try their brick & mortar. Boy was I wrong, because they were a savory grub fest. And like Ital-Amer/Mex-Amer joints, they follow a formula to recreate classic recipes, yet put a saucy Amercanized swerve on everything that just works really, really well in my opinion... Better come hungry. I'm a big gorilla, and could not finish my Gypsy Schnitzel combo. It'll make a fine lunch, tomorrow. And I thought their prices were fair and commensurate with the entree' portions. Service was fine, drink pours were stiff, and the decor was decked out perfect to set the Deutsches-mood. This is our favorite spot. Family owned and all sweethearts. The menu is varied so you have a lot to choose from. We always order the Jager Schnitzel or the Gypsy schnitzel - we Love both of them:-)) The service is amazing and the cocktails plenty to choose from with very affordable prices!! This is the best German food outside of Germany. They have a Tuesday Special with a reduced price menu offering. We also purchased some sausage to take home, which were excellent. We were excited to find a good German food restaurant in Spokane. And the food is excellent here. We've had Jager Schnitzel and Spaetzle, plus pretzel with amazing cheese sauce. Others in party had Apple Brandy Schnitzel, Chicken Carbonara, and kids chicken strips (the fries are to die for). All plates were excellent and portions are huge. Very quiet place with only handful of staff. But service is wonderful and food was quick. Highly recommend. read more

I happened to be in town for the home and garden show and yelped a place to eat and found you, you little gem you. Mom and pop emigrated directly from Germany. Pop an award-winning chef, mom a cook in the hospitality industry all her life. I can say good wholesome food was kind of important at our house. Das Stein Haus ambiance Reminded me of a little bit more upscale authentic family owned German pubs that I visited in Germany. A homey setting with a veritable cornucopia of German beer and food. After reading the reviews my biggest problem was choosing only one meal to try. I opted for the German combo plate with schnitzel, speatzle three brats and red cabbage. While waiting, a beer plank where you can choose from about a dozen beers to try and I had that with a fresh hot pretzel which came with a yummy melted cheese sauce and stone ground mustard. Probably the best pretzel I've ever had. The black lager was a nice surprise for its creamy smooth taste without heavy bitterness. For me the way to check on authentic was to try the red cabbage first, tasting the hint of red clove I knew I'd found home. Both the schnitzel and the Speatzle were perfection. There was no need for the light gravy, but it added a nice flavor and consistency. Three beats, herb, garlic and house with two types of mustard, delish. As I write, my mouth waters at the thought of returning and trying the beef stroganoff, frickidellen, sauerbraten and rounding back to the signature schnitzels just like mom used to make. Came for the first nite of Restaurant Week 2020 and my dinner could not have been more enjoyable! From the service to the food, every bit was wonderful. Started with the bratwurst with 2 different mustards & 2 slices of bread & butter. For the main course, chose the Sauerbraten (super tender) which came with spatzle and the most wonderful red cabbage side dish! Couldn't go wrong with Apfel Strudel with vanilla ice cream for dessert. It was the perfect meal paired with a nice glass of Cabernet. My family and I visited here for dinner one snowy night. Seating was immediate, the decor was pleasant and appropriate for the venue name. Beer Steins galore! My husband went for traditional German fare: the Brat Sampler. I wish I could post a photo on this part of my review. I ordered the salmon, which was tasty but dry. Went in earlier this week for lunch! It was my first time and now I cannot wait to go back! Menu is huge and hearty. There are some great October special dishes available right now! We had: *The Gypsy schnitzel (so delicious) *Warm red Cabbage (I like mine cold & crunchy but still tasty) *Cold German potato salad (I've only ever had it warm and prefer it that way I think- but I gobbled this up, great flavor) *Warm Kraut (same thing for me as the Cabbage) Great beer selection & perfect drip coffee (I added Bailys of course)! We went in with low expectations and Das Stein Haus's food blew us away! I grew up with German food in Weir and Walburg Texas and I missed it! This place took me back home! This place is not bad. It all depends on what you are looking for. My wife, daughter and I had dinner in the bar there Friday night. We shared a shrimp appetizer, a pretzel and two different entrees. The pros: big helpings and the food was hot. Fair selection of beer and the Karaoke was awesome. Lots of fun! The cons: the German food is a Americanized and not too authentic. When my wife sat down she cut her hand with broken glass. The waitress did not seem too concerned. And her attention was just ok. Go here for Karaoke and calories and beer. read more

My Jaegerschnitzel with spaetzle tasted really good. I was really enjoying the food until I found a long hair as I was eating the gravy-covered spaetzle. It kind of took the enjoyment out of it. The bartender offered me another meal but I was already over 1/3 through it at this point. Had I found a second hair I would have been done with lunch; I have a strict "one-hair per meal from an employee in my food rule". It definitely would have been a five-star review had it not been for the hair but I took a couple of stars off because I didn't see the hair but rather felt it in my mouth. read more

We have been eating here since it was the Chic-A-Ria German Inn & Pub. We've always enjoyed their food and friendly staff. I really love the spaetzle and red cabbage. This visit I ordered the bratwurst combo which comes with garlic, herb, and house bratwurst. I really liked the herb version the best. It had the most flavor. I've tried the Hawaiian schnitzel on a previous visit but found it dense and dry. This visit, my mom ordered the tomato feta schnitzel and got the same experience. We talked to the waitress and found that the unbreaded schnitzels tend to be tough and she recommended the breaded. She even replaced my mom's unbreaded one with a breaded at no cost and she really enjoyed it. We always make a special effort to visit Das Stein Haus when we are in town and I don't see that changing any time soon. read more

My husband I had breakfast here. It was a bit confusing walking in the first time... there was two entries one into the pub and the other into the resturant. Authentic German food. The owner is from Germany. Not a whole lot for picky kiddos. If they like to try new things this is the place to go. Super spot for authentic German food. There is nothing on the menu that I wouldn't order again and again! The schnitzels are fantastic regardless of the meat but my favorite is the brat combo.
