Everything here has great quality; you can tell that's what keeps people coming back. There's not a lot of seating (sometimes people were waiting), but everyone that came in talked to each other like they're regulars. I had the beef brisket Mac and cheese and smothered it with the homemade sweet bbq sauce. It was SO good! The cornbread on the side was incredible! My boyfriend had the chicken tenders with the homemade hot bbq sauce - he said it's some of the best he's ever had. We also had the fried green tomatoes - those were just ok. Not sure how you get such a beautiful crunchy dark as syrup bark on brisket while keeping it melt in your mouth tender, but some chef (not cook, chef) at Darrel's knows how. Someone in their kitchen is paying attention and prepping with love. Great find. Cavatappi (who knew) in the Mac and cheese intermingles with a silky delicious 3 cheese bechemel like they're Siamese twins. Comfort foot at a higher level. read more

All I have to say is wow! Absolutely AMAZING barbecue. And great customer service too. Andre took such great care of us and is genuinely passionate about the food here. We started with the "pig wings" appetizer. Ok, these things are so good they should be illegal!! They were juicy and fall-off-the-bone delicious. I could have easily polished off a few more... But good thing I didn't. Needed plenty of room for the generously portioned entree. The main course was the "Andy dandy" - brisket & pulled pork. You get one side and I chose the highly recommended Mac & cheese. Again.. So much food, yet so juicy. And the homemade sweet bbq sauce complimented both meats perfectly. Nice Southern inspired menu. Located in a funky little plaza; It was warm enough that I was able to enjoy outdoor seating. I enjoyed very friendly service. Fried chicken was good, & accompanied by corn bread & two sides. My greens were very tasty, & not over-salted (like you get here up North!)-they were just right. This place is on a quieter side of town, away from tourists. It also seems to be a local favorites with customers and waiters/waitresses know each other. The menu heavily favors meat dishes. I like the atmosphere in this restaurant. Casual with good food. Although the ribs were a bit fatty, they were tender and tasty. I loved the fried green bean appetizer. I didn't like the cucumber salad though because it was too sweet and the cukes were too soft and wilted. I wish the waiter didn't talk us into the full rack of ribs to share because the 1/2 rack came with 2 sides and I missed the baked potato. I think they thought we didn't have much money because we were seniors. But the waiter was very friendly and meant well and was trying to save us money. Darrell's Restaurant was great! I did not have the honor of meeting Darrell himself but his wait staff was very nice! They stopped by our table and were very friendly, answering all of our questions about the area and giving us suggestions as to what we should do in the area. The food was absolutely delicious. My dad and I split the sampler of all of the different barbecued meats. I wish I could choose a favorite but they were honestly all great. I suggest ordering the meat "dry" unless you have been there before and have a favorite sauce. Ordering dry lets you try any of the sauces they offer and you can apply as much or as little as you want. Lastly, although just a side, the cornbread is absolutely delicious. A lot of the cornbread I have gotten at restaurants is dry and not flavorful. That was not the case at Darrell's. It was moist and truly delicious. I live in Manhattan but I've been considering a short weekend trip just to get my fix. If you are in the area or honestly, even if you're not, check it out. Food - 9/10 Service 11/10 read more

Wow!!!! Stopped in at Darrell's at the suggestion of a Friend, on a Sunday night. We were immediately greeted at the door by a very friendly young lady and shown to a table. Our waiter arrived moments later and was absolutely amazing. Extremely professional while also taking the time to recommend some of the top food choices. I was already smitten with the place by then! When the food came, it became true love. I had the cheeseburger and a side of fried okra and let me tell you, it was phenomenal!!! We stayed and visited a while after eating and our server was excellent at checking back up on us, keeping our beverages refilled and making us feel extremely welcome. I did not get his name, but it was around 7:pm on Sunday October 20. When we left we were thanked by not only our server, but the you g lady cleaning off the tables and also the same friendly young lady at the door. Wow! Pleasant surprise. This place is tucked into a courtyard plaza on the 41 bypass cluttered with pawn and other unsightly businesses. Once again learning to not judge a book, restaurant, by its cover or neighboring businesses. I had the Andy Dandy. Pulled pork shoulder and slow smoked midwestern beef brisket. This came with choice of a side, I got collard greens, all of this was absolutely A plus. I also got the mac n cheese (had to try it), mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and cobler for dessert. The coleslaw had a wonderful crunch to it. The only constructive criticism I have is to lay off of the spray chemical cleaner when people are eating it mists up into the are and kinda wrecks the whole dining experience! This place has killer food. I had pulled pork, brisket, and key west Mac and cheese. Everything we got was phenomenal. We ordered via Grubhub and the driver knowingly left without our complete order to turn out a delivery faster. Darell himself made it right, offering to bring the missing food. Chatted with us for a bit and apologized profusely. He also brought extra items he wanted us to try for our next visit, of which, I'm sure there will be many but in person next time. This was such a great experience! We were visiting the Venice area for the first time. We received a friendly greeting and were seated immediately.
