Tried this place out after it had been recommended to me by a friend and also after reading the reviews. I had the half rack of ribs with two sides plus an extra side that I had. The ribs were very good as well as the barbecue sauces. I was disappointed by the macaroni and cheese ... it had the perfect creamy texture, but did not have any flavor whatsoever. The coleslaw was good and the mashed potatoes were okay. I'd only go back for the ribs. read more

Whenever I visit a new city, I ALWAYS check out the local BBQ. Darrel's did NOT disappoint. I picked up a full rack of ribs with collard greens and baked beans for my mother and I to share and there was more than enough food for the two of us. The food was good especially the Mac and Cheese. Best I have ever had. My big complaint is this place does not have AC! There is a breeze but it's hard to eat hot food when you are sweating and the humidity makes you sweat. It is hard to find...tiny sign at the road and them you just have to walk into the shopping center patio area and look for the yellow chairs. Avoid this place. They put a orange slice in a glass of beer. They take forever for pre-prepared smoked meat dinner. They just apologized for to go order taking so long (45 minutes and counting). Our experience was not great. The service was poor. We were the only table in the restaurant so there was no excuse. Sever also had no knowledge of the menu allergies and did not ask the chef. I did not care for the food and it was cold and overpriced. We would not return. read more

His place rivals any BBQ place I've been to. The service fantastic for any area but exceptionally good in the Venice area. Try the chicken and dumpling soup. Try the header but share it. The wife loves the salmon salad with balsamic dressing. The kids love the Mac n cheese and grandpa loves the fried okra. Something for everyone for sure. Had the pulled pork over a baked potato, shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were more flavorful than most that I've had. Pulled pork was very good. Shrimp and grits weren't my favorite. Would rather have yellow grits or even cheddar grits cooked more so they were thicker but it definitely wasn't bad at all. Darrell's Restaurant did a fabulous job in catering our last party on Saturday, January 22,2022 for our Development! He was the only restaurant/caterer that offered to do a tasting and work with me to select the perfect menu for our large group. I did not receive that from any of the other 3 restaurants. Darrell went above and beyond to make our party go without a hitch. He was so flexible and easy to work with from beginning to end. And the food was excellent which was also a bonus! He made my job easy and the guests were elated with everything. I highly recommend using them to cater your next party. You will not be disappointed. They are an amazing family business. read more

This place was absolutely delicious! I got the pulled pork bbq baked potato and the Louisiana gumbo soup! And it was filling and so tasty! 3 of my friends got the pulled piggy dinner which was big enough to share with someone! And another friend got one of the chicken options! Everyone was satisfied and left full. I loved their added touch like the bathroom sign! And by far the best part is their sauces! The regular and the Carolina were the best sauce I've ever had. I asked if they sold it and they said not currently. But the guy came back with a few of those two. I forget how the third one was but it was spicy and I was not in the mood for spicy so I didn't really try it. But, if you start selling it and will ship up to MA, let me know! If you like meat then this is the place. The smoked meats are prepared well and tasty. They have three sauces at the table with a sweet, Carolina and hot. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their food. This place serves enough food for everyone to take some home, so it's value added. Thought I would try this place because neighbors went there and liked it. I love BBQ and had the ribs. They were tender and flavorful, but I like smoked ribs and these were not smoked. Potato salad tasted like my mother's and enjoyed them. The beans were ok, but have had much better. Probably won't go back because ribs were not smoked. read more

Darrell's has great food. We go there probably once a month for dinner. The staff is so friendly and I'm very impressed with the younger guy's that work there. Everyone always makes sure the customers are doing well or if they need anything. We've never had a bad meal there. The new location looks great!! The only issue may be parking or seating. I see this place being packed all the time. The service is great. The owner is out and about He is great and make you feel like your a regular. The food was amazing. The brisket was perfect and a good size portion. I when with the mac and cheese and was one of the best I have had. The fried okra was fried to perfection and the dipping sauce was very tasty. I went for the spicy BBQ sauce and the Carolina sauce and they both hit the spot. I will be back and often. This is a must try!!!! Fantastic find. Found by luck via google maps. Was worried at first that it would not be a family friendly environment due to the look on the outside. Thought it was a bar. Was happy we tried it. Fantastic fried green tomatoes. My wife loved the pulled pork sandwich and baked beans. My chicken and waffles was an amazing portion and the perfect combination of sweet and savory. Our daughter had a 1/4 rack of ribs and said they were the best ever. Our server Steve was very attentive and personable. Dry tasteless ribs, very few bbq sauce selections. Served my salad on a dirty plate (there was weird solidified grease all over the bottom of my salad bowl) and then not only charged me for the salad, but also charged me for the dessert they offered me for free to make up for the salad and then got very rude when I pointed out that I never asked for dessert... it was offered to me for free. Definitely trying the bbq down the street next time instead, I've heard good things about it but didn't go because there was a wait.. regretting that now. read more

A little hard to spot from the road. We can't wait to come back on our next vacation. The ribs are litterly fall off the bone yummy! Fried chicken is flavorful & juicy.
