I enjoyed this place so much, I brought family back a few weeks later when we came back to Venice. Service can be a bit slow sometimes but the food is very tasty and the portions are generous. I had chicken and waffles both times I went because it was so good the first time, but I sampled my tablemates' food including chicken fried steak, mac and cheese and pulled pork, and everything was delicious. The cornbread is particularly yummy. It's sweet but very light. I saved mine for breakfast the next day. Prices are reasonable and you won't leave hungry. The parking lot is small and tight, especially if you have a large vehicle. We parked behind in a lot one time and walked over. It's also very easy to miss the driveway, so pay close attention. read more

Perfectly acceptable restaurant. Nice servers, and good food. Chicken and waffles. Haven't ever seen it breaded. Missed my buckwheat waffles. (I'm from CA). The pulled pork wasn't juicy enough. And it was a very bland spice so it wasn't very flavorful without squeezing barbeque sauce all over it. GAVIN brought out our food from the kitchen. He was happy-faced and eager to get anything we needed such as more napkins, a container for leftovers and more. Google didn't disappoint with this choice! My partner wanted wings and I wanted fried green tomatoes and this is what we Landed on. I had the crab cakes, very good. Well seasoned and flavorful. Decided to stop by Darrell's after a visit to Venice Beach. It did not disappoint! It had a nice variety of items on the menu and the food was delicious with very generous portions! The chicken livers with the homemade gravy was an amazing appetizer. I ordered the chicken and ribs which was cooked perfectly, and my wife ordered the pulled pork nachos, which were enough for 4 or more people to share. We ended the meal with a recommendation of peanut butter chocolate pie from our server Lisa, who was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and friendly and accurate. Sadly, I neglected to take pictures, but I highly recommend a trip to Darrell's and will definitely visit again the next time I am in the area. read more

This is a homey feeling restaurant with great food and fair prices. The staff was very friendly, and everything was extremely clean, with small spray bottles of hand sanitizers on every table. I ordered the two piece dark meat fried chicken and chose mashed potatoes and gravy and cucumber salad as sides. The cucumber salad was delicious and unique to this restaurant. The mashed potatoes included the potato skins, definitely not from an instant potato mix. The chicken was delicious, with a very light fried coating. The sweet tea was a perfect sweetness. When we left, we were chatting with our friends in the parking lot, when we were approached by "Darrell," the restaurant owner. He introduced himself to us, thanked us for coming, and asked about our meal and the service. He is very involved in the day-to-day operations of his restaurant. Ordered Shrimp and Grits, so salty had to throw away, shrimp had strong iodine flavor, Fried chicken breast had very little meat, ribs tough and dry. Meat was good quality but without any spices, not even salt, no sauce on the burger, complete luck of flavor. Don't miss out on this place! What a little gem. The food was delicious and plentiful. Our waitress, Gina, was so nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Always polite and never rushed us. She recommended the fresh cucumber salad , so, I tried it. She was right. It was so good. It's something I never would have tried if I didn't ask for her suggestion. My daughter and I were headed north on 75, towards Tampa, returning from a softball tournament when she googled Darrell's... The place is clean, Covid friendly, and the food is phenomenal!!! On July the second it was my birthday and we decided to give Darrell's a try. The best choice we could've made, the wait staff was very pleasant and honestly seemed that we got what we wanted, the meal came quickly and it was hot and delicious. Excellent service We stopped in tonight for dinner, our first time. Darrell's has moved, from off of bypass 41 to a more visible spot just south of Miami Ave along Bus 41. Not sure when they moved, I just knew they had been kind of hidden away at the other spot. The new restaurant is a fairly big room with a high ceiling. I seemed a little sparse, I suppose the concrete floor made it feel that way, unfinished, and it didn't have a typical BBQ look. Darrell's is not just a BBQ place but that is a prominent offering, everything smoked on the premises, even the sauces made by the restaurant. There was no sparseness of customers. the place was full and there was a wait. Almost full, a couple of empty seats at the bar along one side were fine with us, and turned out to be great seats. Our bartender / server was a very personable guy and was the highlight of our visit. There were also a couple of TVs at the bar tuned to college football this evening. The food was fine, not quite as good as I expected but to me, there is no such thing as bad BBQ. If I thought the brisket I sampled was too dry, some BBQ sauce fixed it right up. The ribs I tried were pretty fatty but good. I had the Pulled Piggy and it was also good with some sauce. They have three kinds of sauce, sweet, vinegar based, and a little spicy.
