I found this place when my son had a concert at the local school. The malted waffle caught my attention because the only other place I've seen that is an hour away in East Amherst at a place that always has a crowd waiting to get in. They also have hash browns, not just home fries. I was expecting a small town diner with a dive-y vibe, but it's more upscale. Much bigger, too. Still a similar price point. Great service. Very friendly. The food was wonderful with generous portions. We can't wait to make an excuse to go back. read more

Service was outstanding from the moment we walked in until we left. The restaurant is clean, well-maintained, and offers plenty of tables with comfortable seating. Friends had recommended it specifically for the food, so we tried the corned beef hash and stuffed French toast. The stuffed French toast was good, but I wasn't a fan of the corned beef hash -- it was minced too finely and not reheated enough (I prefer a little crunch). They also don't serve real maple syrup. Overall, great service and atmosphere, though the food was a bit mixed for us. read more

We spinned the yelp wheel and stopped on our adventure in winery/apples. Food was pleasantly delicious. My husband had a Southwest melt and I got a patty melt. The side of fries is actually a basket of fries. One would've been enough for both of us and we still would've had plenty. The service was excellent. My wife and I often stop here at Darrell's on our way out to the lake. We love the breakfast. It's always fresh and delicious. On our latest visit we decided to get omelettes. I had the Hashbrown Omelet and my wife had the Italian. Darrell delivered as usual. Excellent all the way around. They must have a magic wand back there because I never have a bad meal here. Sometimes it worth the trip to just scoot out here on the weekend even if we aren't headed to the lake. I suggest that you do the same. read more

We were staying in the area and discovered this wonderful breakfast place. Italian Western Omlette for me, shared a pancake with family member. Fantastic food. We loved everything, including the coffee mugs. I would highly recommend Darrell's Place. Wait staff was top notch. Social distancing tables are maked which made us comfortable...you might need to wait at high peak times but it will be worth it. read more

I've seen this diner here for years but never tried it until tonight. First off, I came with one other at about 6:15PM and there were plenty of parking spots. On the inside, there are plenty of booths and a bar with stools in the main entrance area in addition to a whole dining room. The inside was pretty clean and just had that classic diner feel. We were seated and served pretty quickly. I ordered the smothered chicken breast, which includes two sides of your choosing, so I went with the chef salad and their cajun fries. My guest ordered the french toast with sausage. The chef salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing was actually pretty good! It was the perfect size to start the meal with and I enjoyed all of add-ins it came with. The smothered chicken breast had a really good flavor and was cooked perfectly but I wish there was more chicken breast. To finish off the meal, the cajun fries were ok. They had a decent kick to them but that was about all that stood out about them. I didn't have any of the toast, but did try a bit of the sausage links and will say that it tasted excellent. If I were to grab breakfast there, I'd definitely get the sausage links. In summary, it's a pretty typical diner experience that doesn't break the bank. We eat here every Friday night. They have a delicious fish fry and tonight I had on special corn beef and cabbage. There was enough served on my plate for almost 3 people. They have memorized our drink order and are so attentive during our meal for refill. we love them. read more

Had the Darrell's omelette with sourdough bread with the hash browns a little crispy, added two pancakes and a bowl of fresh fruit. oh hubby had the steak and eggs and fries we really enjoyed the atmosphere, especially the food. A rock solid choice for breakfast or lunch. Very good food at reasonable prices. If your travels bring You Eastern Niagara County You can't go wrong at Darrell's. It is pleasant, the wait staff is personable and the menu is more than adequate. From time to time I crave diner pasta. The Spaghetti and Meatballs Special nailed it. It came with a generous side salad. Someone went to a lot trouble arranging that salad and its eye appeal equalled it's taste. I told my waitress that it would OK with Me if they up charged Me because I enjoyed their music service so much. Diner Pasta and Oldies. A very nice lunch indeed. read more

I dont live anywhere near this place, but was out this way purchasing a new vehicle. Stopped here for a bite and was very pleasantly surprised. They had great specials, and the menu had tons of great selections from sandwiches, melts, salads, and entrees. I ordered a Turkey bacon melt sandwich - LOVE that it came with homemade chips - instead of just opening a bag. They were awesome. I noticed people kept coming in an getting donuts to go - so I asked our server what that was all about. She said they make homemade donuts (glazed, cinnamon, and plain) we ended up getting a few "to go". They were fantastic! Wish this place was closer- I would be here every day! read more

I love Darrell's Place and go there most Sundays for breakfast with my family. I also eat lunch there on weekdays as the food tastes like home cooking and if you are a business person and don't have a lot of time for lunch, the service at lunch is fast. (Darrell's meatloaf is just like mom used to make but I don't tell her that.) His Friday fish fry is the best and you will see the people lined up on Fridays to get one as proof. Now that Darrell has wine and beer, we can have a nice relaxing meal at the end of a long week. Darrell's Place serves large sized portions (I often bring some home and I am a big eater), he has friendly staff, fast service and he has recently remodeled the whole place so it looks great. read more

Darrell's Place 90 Telegraph Road Middleport, NY 14105-9638 (716) 735-7252 Formerly over the years it was 'Green Kettle', 'Murphs Stop 31' and now 'Darrell's Place.' Oddly the evolution leaves elements of the previous behind even after the subsequent painting and addition re-modelings. Large parking lot to the East and North of the main but small space still surround the main diner. On the main thoroughfare, (rt 31) within the weekend speed trap area known as Middleport. Heavily patrolled as the speed limit drops to 40mph from 55mph. Assisted living area in the immediate vicinity so the regulars are typically older. I am a pig, and typically enjoy larger portions and on occasions find myself a but peckish after a meal. I have a bit of contempt with my local familiarity, so it may or may not reflect the true status expressed my evaluation. It's good, just not huge portions. Probably very PC. Popular, often a crowd but adequate, bright space and rarely waiting. Service is good though not exceptional. Convenient, easy to find with good food explains my basic opinion. read more

Was in town recently and I just HAVE to add that Darrell's donuts are deliciously evil!!! They are not te yeast donuts most places have but the fry cake kind and on my recent visit they had chocolate fry cakes with peanuts on them... so fresh, so tender, soooooo yummy! read more

What a hidden gem! Have driven by numerous times and noticed the parking lot full but never stopped until today......loved it! Kids both ate everything on their plates. My wife who is very picky gave it 2 thumbs up. Will definitely be back soon. Wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. This is a great choice for a fish fry! The restaurant is small and you will have to wait if you go during dinner time but it is definitely worth it. They have a small menu, but many options to choose from. Their staff is great and really makes sure you have everything you need. From the time we ordered until we got our food wasn't very long at all. Their fish fry is huge and the batter is very crispy and good. They have many side options to choose from (baked, fries, rice, coleslaw, potato salad, onion rings, sweet potato) I chose to have my fries cajun and that was a good move. They had the right amount of spice and kick to them. A family member had the steak and shrooms on special and their steak was perfect. This is like home cooking and a great dinner spot. I will definitely be back to try more things off their menu. read more

Customer service was good, the Fish Fry is a specialty and the most sold item here. It tasted really good at the right flavor of the crispy batter. I did not tasted the beer flavor in it though. The fish was so large that I didn't eat the whole thing. read more

I don't get up to Middleport much but business took me up there. Good and bad. Good because I got to eat at Darrels Place, bad because I don't get up there often and cant eat at Darrels. The place is very nice inside. Booths, tables and a counter seat the lucky ones who stop in for a meal. The restaurant is super clean and kid friendly. I opted for the standard breakfast fare. Bacon, eggs and home fries. Cooked to perfection. The big make or break for me is home fries. Darrels home fries rate right at the top. No problem with the friendly servers keeping the coffee cup full here. If your blasting through Middleport hit the brakes when you see the little VW race car out in front. Best pit stop you'll ever. read more

I really don't get why this place is so busy all the time. The food is mediocre. The breakfast menu is lacking in choices and the lunch and dinner isn't that great either. Service is good, but I would not choose to go here if I had a choice. I had a catered meal from here a couple years ago and it was just plain yucky. I threw most of it out. I also stopped in with my mom last year and she got a BLT and it literally had one slice of bacon on it...I mean come on! I think a lot of people just go here because they've been coming for so many years they just don't want to change it up and try another place. If you want another choice for good diner food try Rudy's in Medina...great choices and specials. I'm never dissapointed there and it takes all of 5-10 minutes to get there from Middleport. read more

Great home-cooked food, fast service and a friendly staff. Whenever I am in the area visiting family (almost monthly), several trips to Darrell's are on the schedule for some good home-cooked meals. The place has been remodeled a bit, and offers a clean, neighborhood diner feel. Lots of regulars frequent the place - which is always a good sign. read more

The meal almost didn't matter, though, (except that I was hungry) because everything else was delightful.

It was a Thursday night around 5:30 pm. We did not have a reservation. Restaurant was about half full at that time, with lots of indoor and outdoor options. We chose to sit inside and JoHannah was our server. First off, service: JoHannah (that's how it sounded, but might not be spelled right) was excellent! She was friendly, super knowledgable about the specials and the menu, very efficient, and attentive. She was there as soon as we needed her before we even called her over. Service out of the kitchen was great too - time from ordering to being served was short and courses came out without too much time in between. Second, food: everything we ate was delicious. Food seemed high quality with nice presentation. We had a cup of the Italian wedding soup (soup of the day) to start - it was possible to have a cup or a bowl, and it came with a packet of crackers. It was great - broth was flavorful without being too herby, had a good amount of pastina, meatballs and cheese, and the cup was a nice amount before the appetizer. Next, we shared the special appetizer of burrata with a local peach and jalapeño salsa, over a bed of arugula dressed with a lemony dressing, served with crostini. It was very very good. The salsa was very flavorful and the perfect combo of textures and sweet, spicy, salty. For our main, we had decided we definitely wanted dessert, so we split a dish - we got a 10-oz steak with asparagus, and what was described as shoe-string fries. A side of béarnaise came with the steak. Steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the béarnaise was a delicious accompaniment. The fries were 'regular fries' in our opinion, not 'shoe-string', which are usually much thinner. But they were fresh and crispy. For dessert, there were so many options! This was definitely one of the best dessert menus I've seen around - besides gelato, chocolate lava cake and cannoli (which everyone seems to have these days), they offered affogato, several cakes, and the cheesecake, which we got, which had raspberry, blueberries and pistachios. We thought it was delicious - a generous slice and perfect for sharing. All together with tax, it was the perfect amount of food for us, and the bill (we did not have any drinks) was almost exactly $100. We consider that, for the experience and food quality, to be a great value. Final notes: They brought out a basket of their homemade rosemary sourdough bread with regular whipped (unsalted) butter and a 'butter of the day' (which on this day was (we think) blueberry) for the table. The bread was so good we ate the entire small loaf - and we probably shouldn't have done that only because we were extremely full by the time we finished dessert! Also, ambiance inside is nice - feels a little fancy, though diners were all dressed comfortably, many in shorts. I would think this is a great spot for date nights, birthdays or family dinners where you want to feel special. There is a small parking lot right next to the restaurant and street parking too. Reservations are recommended for weekends (and by the time we left, around 7:15 pm, the whole restaurant inside and out was packed!) We'll be back!

We walked in and saw the "wait to be seated" sign and soon afterward, a young woman came over and asked how many in our party and where we'd like to sit. The three of us decided to sit on their back patio. We picked a table and our waitress soon followed with drink/food menus. All of the tables outside had umbrellas to help shield from the sun, which on this Saturday was out but the temperature was perfect and there was a slight breeze to cool it down a little. The one oddity we had was that our drink menus didn't match as my menu had more taps listed compared to the others I was sitting with, so I ended up getting a drink in my flight they never saw. I slight hiccup but honestly, you can't be too upset with a drink in your hand! Our waitress was young and incredibly personable, friendly, accommodating, answering all our questions about the food and customizing our orders how we wanted them. We might have let it slip that it was my mom's birthday - Our waitress brought her a birthday cake shot to celebrate, which she loved! Our waitress let us take our time sampling our beer flights before placing our food orders. The wait time for our food was very reasonable, maybe 10-15 minutes, I can't remember as we were having too good a time chatting and sipping. For dinner, I ordered their Nashville Hot Chicken Sammy, which is a hand-breaded toaster-oven-baked chicken breast topped with provolone cheese, pickles, and their Nashville hot sauce between a brioche bun and served with a side of tater tots (a small upcharge from their default chips). The sandwich was delicious! Now, for you spice lovers, I didn't find this sandwich very spicy, it was more about the flavor, the tang of the sauce. I didn't mind it not being that spicy, the flavor was excellent! The pickles were thick and had a nice crisp to them and the provolone cheese paired so well with it all. The tater tots were fried perfectly with a crispier exterior but hot, pillowy-soft interior - For the small upcharge, ~$3.00, they were worth it. The portion sizes were perfect as I was perfectly full, I wasn't uncomfortable. The price of my meal was reasonable as well, especially seeing how everything's costing more in 2026. Live Edge Brewing is not only a family favorite but for me, it's a hidden gem. Darrell's is a very friendly place to go for food. Frequently friends from the community are there also and that makes it a social gathering place. The staff is welcoming and the owner is present (a plus when you are looking for quality.) The food is always tasty and the specials most always meet expectations. Darrells homemade donuts are a welcome treat. The prices are such that one can eat out more than once a week and not feel a pinch to the budget. Darrells is a great family restaurant that is reasonably priced and where the service is always exceptional. The meals are always served by a friendly server and the wait time is never an issue.
