I found this place when my son had a concert at the local school. The malted waffle caught my attention because the only other place I've seen that is an hour away in East Amherst at a place that always has a crowd waiting to get in. They also have hash browns, not just home fries. I was expecting a small town diner with a dive-y vibe, but it's more upscale. Much bigger, too. Still a similar price point. Great service. Very friendly. The food was wonderful with generous portions. We can't wait to make an excuse to go back. read more

My wife and I often stop here at Darrell's on our way out to the lake. We love the breakfast. It's always fresh and delicious. On our latest visit we decided to get omelettes. I had the Hashbrown Omelet and my wife had the Italian. Darrell delivered as usual. Excellent all the way around. They must have a magic wand back there because I never have a bad meal here. Sometimes it worth the trip to just scoot out here on the weekend even if we aren't headed to the lake. I suggest that you do the same. read more

We were staying in the area and discovered this wonderful breakfast place. Italian Western Omlette for me, shared a pancake with family member. Fantastic food. We loved everything, including the coffee mugs. I would highly recommend Darrell's Place. Wait staff was top notch. I've seen this diner here for years but never tried it until tonight. First off, I came with one other at about 6:15PM and there were plenty of parking spots. On the inside, there are plenty of booths and a bar with stools in the main entrance area in addition to a whole dining room. The inside was pretty clean and just had that classic diner feel. We were seated and served pretty quickly. I ordered the smothered chicken breast, which includes two sides of your choosing, so I went with the chef salad and their cajun fries. My guest ordered the french toast with sausage. The chef salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing was actually pretty good! It was the perfect size to start the meal with and I enjoyed all of add-ins it came with. The smothered chicken breast had a really good flavor and was cooked perfectly but I wish there was more chicken breast. To finish off the meal, the cajun fries were ok. They had a decent kick to them but that was about all that stood out about them. I didn't have any of the toast, but did try a bit of the sausage links and will say that it tasted excellent. If I were to grab breakfast there, I'd definitely get the sausage links. In summary, it's a pretty typical diner experience that doesn't break the bank. The food tasted good and portion sizes were just right. read more

A rock solid choice for breakfast or lunch. Very good food at reasonable prices. If your travels bring You Eastern Niagara County You can't go wrong at Darrell's. It is pleasant, the wait staff is personable and the menu is more than adequate. From time to time I crave diner pasta. The Spaghetti and Meatballs Special nailed it. It came with a generous side salad. Someone went to a lot trouble arranging that salad and its eye appeal equalled it's taste. I dont live anywhere near this place, but was out this way purchasing a new vehicle. Stopped here for a bite and was very pleasantly surprised. They had great specials, and the menu had tons of great selections from sandwiches, melts, salads, and entrees. I ordered a Turkey bacon melt sandwich - LOVE that it came with homemade chips - instead of just opening a bag. They were awesome. I noticed people kept coming in an getting donuts to go - so I asked our server what that was all about. She said they make homemade donuts (glazed, cinnamon, and plain) we ended up getting a few "to go". They were fantastic! Wish this place was closer- I would be here every day! read more

I love Darrell's Place and go there most Sundays for breakfast with my family. I also eat lunch there on weekdays as the food tastes like home cooking and if you are a business person and don't have a lot of time for lunch, the service at lunch is fast. (Darrell's meatloaf is just like mom used to make but I don't tell her that.) His Friday fish fry is the best and you will see the people lined up on Fridays to get one as proof. Now that Darrell has wine and beer, we can have a nice relaxing meal at the end of a long week. Darrell's Place serves large sized portions (I often bring some home and I am a big eater), he has friendly staff, fast service and he has recently remodeled the whole place so it looks great. read more

Oddly the evolution leaves elements of the previous behind even after the subsequent painting and addition re-modelings. Large parking lot to the East and North of the main but small space still surround the main diner. On the main thoroughfare, (rt 31) within the weekend speed trap area known as Middleport. Heavily patrolled as the speed limit drops to 40mph from 55mph. Assisted living area in the immediate vicinity so the regulars are typically older. I am a pig, and typically enjoy larger portions and on occasions find myself a but peckish after a meal. I have a bit of contempt with my local familiarity, so it may or may not reflect the true status expressed my evaluation. It's good, just not huge portions. Probably very PC. Popular, often a crowd but adequate, bright space and rarely waiting. Service is good though not exceptional. Convenient, easy to find with good food explains my basic opinion. read more

This is a great choice for a fish fry! The restaurant is small and you will have to wait if you go during dinner time but it is definitely worth it. They have a small menu, but many options to choose from. Their staff is great and really makes sure you have everything you need. From the time we ordered until we got our food wasn't very long at all. Their fish fry is huge and the batter is very crispy and good. They have many side options to choose from (baked, fries, rice, coleslaw, potato salad, onion rings, sweet potato) I chose to have my fries cajun and that was a good move. They had the right amount of spice and kick to them. A family member had the steak and shrooms on special and their steak was perfect. This is like home cooking and a great dinner spot. I don't get up to Middleport much but business took me up there. Good and bad. Good because I got to eat at Darrels Place, bad because I don't get up there often and cant eat at Darrels. The place is very nice inside. Booths, tables and a counter seat the lucky ones who stop in for a meal. The restaurant is super clean and kid friendly. I opted for the standard breakfast fare. Bacon, eggs and home fries. Cooked to perfection. The big make or break for me is home fries. Darrels home fries rate right at the top. No problem with the friendly servers keeping the coffee cup full here. If your blasting through Middleport hit the brakes when you see the little VW race car out in front. I really don't get why this place is so busy all the time. The food is mediocre. The breakfast menu is lacking in choices and the lunch and dinner isn't that great either. Service is good, but I would not choose to go here if I had a choice. I had a catered meal from here a couple years ago and it was just plain yucky. I threw most of it out. I also stopped in with my mom last year and she got a BLT and it literally had one slice of bacon on it...I mean come on! I think a lot of people just go here because they've been coming for so many years they just don't want to change it up and try another place. If you want another choice for good diner food try Rudy's in Medina...great choices and specials. I'm never dissapointed there and it takes all of 5-10 minutes to get there from Middleport. read more
