When you go to The Brookside, you know you're in for friendly service and delicious food in a casual setting. We visited for lunch on the weekend and ordered a BLT and a cuban wrap. The BLT was perfectly toasted and filled with bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese. The cuban wrap was loaded with tender, juicy pork, ham and pickles. Their wraps are the best; they are always loaded up! I was able to get two meals out of it. These two items typically come with chips and a pickle and you can upgrade to fries for a small fee. read more

We came on a Friday at 4:30 and were seated at once. I ordered the pot roast bowl, which is mashed potatoes, corn, pot roast and gravy, served with a roll and butter. The portion was ample and just as I had pictured it, delicious and filling. I would point out that the roll, while very fresh, was quite small. Our server was prompt and cheerful. Visited for the first time with friends a week ago Friday. As it was Friday I decided to have the fish fry...I chose the breaded with mashed potatoes for a side. The fish was delicious ...very very good and the portion of mashed potatoes was also good. I was disappointed in the small container of coleslaw slaw and the size of the very small roll. Definite opportunity for improvement in this area...even good Italian bread would be a great improvement and a larger helping of cole slaw would increase my plans to return. read more

They were cut lengthwise like fries. The sandwich was amazing. Tons of fillings. I took half home and it was good as leftovers too. This is a comfort food place. The hot roast beef sandwich was very bland and unseasoned but the portion was nice for the price point. The poutine with pot roast was like warm, cheese wasn't melted and also unseasoned. The chicken bites were hard and not as good as Applebee's. They also were not properly sauced. But on the plus side the celery and carrots were spot on! They ran out of orange juice so I couldn't have my desired drink. Ordered a frozen strawberry margarita instead and it was the worst bad, too much Tequila for the ratio and it was more liquidy than frozen. The restaurant was very nice and clean with very nice decor. It was completely empty which is surprising for 1pm on a Saturday, but a few tables showed up while we were eating. Service was good, and food was fast. I got the roast beef, and the gravy was a little thick and salty, but still good. My husband got a wrap that had a lot of meat in it. My only concern of the restaurant and the reason I gave it four stars is the place is under construction and it smelled overwhelmingly like fresh paint. Really strong fresh paint. Could have sworn I reviewed the Brookside way back when. I think the venue had recently gone under new ownership just when the pandemic started in 2020, and they rose to the challenge of reimagining their venue. We ordered takeout often. My favorite is their poutine. My husband and son like their wings. Another son enjoys their chicken tenders. We've since dined in a couple of times. The food is fantastic. They offer a good mix of comfort food and more creative offerings, as well as seasonal specials. I love getting a side of their wasabi ranch with the fish fry. They have a small bar and a good selection of wines, including a couple local wines. The restaurant is small but cozy. Service is great. read more

Oh Brookside...what happened?! We used to love it here. It used to be "our place." I actually had a 4-star review in my drafts. Not anymore. Sorry guys, it's a long one. **The salads are always amazing which is why I gave 3 stars instead of 2. They've had a great expanded seasonal salad menu (summer and then autumn) but I don't know if this will continue into winter. The quality of the food has taken a total nosedive. The past 4-5 times we've ordered takeout, it took an hour rather than the quoted 35-40 mins. Not the only restaurant where this has been happening to us...anyway, last time we ordered here it happened again. But it was a total ghost town in there. No excuse. Especially because our food was COLD. The boxes didn't even feel warm. Clearly it was ready and sitting there for a LONG time. However, even if it were hot, it wouldn't have been acceptable... Aside from being cold, my chicken fingers were rock hard overdone and barely had any sauce splashed on them. Everything tasted disgusting, like old/bad fishy oil. I personally don't care about sharing oil with the fish fry (concerning if you have an allergy though). But it was clearly OLD grease. Same with the French fries. Cold. Tasted horrible. I had to stop eating. Was burping up the bad grease for hours after eating those couple of bites. Gross, I know. My boyfriend's burger was bleeding cold raw. That's saying a lot, because he'd prefer pink over well done any day. His fries were cold too. He also agreed something wasn't right with the frying oil and couldn't eat the fries. The burger, aside from being raw, was on the daily special menu and it had a couple of different fried items on it. So this was also tainted with the taste of old frying oil. Two whole meals went right into the garbage, which had to be taken to the outside bin because the food really smelled that bad. Like bad grease. At that point the restaurant was closed. Even if they were still open, we already waited an hour for food. It was late and we honestly lost our appetite. I know it sounds dramatic but we're so disappointed that we've been watching our go-to restaurant slowly go downhill. *Also worth noting - the last time I got a flatbread it was literally swimming in grease. I know this isn't health food. It was a chicken finger flatbread that I've ordered many times. There were also barely any chicken fingers on it, but whatever. The entire thing was SO soaked with grease that the bread was disintegrating. The cheese/toppings were just dripping all over the place. Even with a fork and knife it didn't taste good. It wasn't salvageable. We rarely go for a sit-down meal anymore, but the times we have, the food has been at least OK. But I'll usually get a salad (again, love their salads). Not sure if the issue is just with the take out and/or their fried foods. We've always had good waitresses, even though our favorite moved away (WE MISS YOU KELLY!!!!) I will say it is more of a basic menu, but they have something for everybody. They seem to be expanding and changing...but I don't know if it's a good thing. They have some great daily specials. Prices are going up everywhere, but the quality here seems to be slipping big time. We're so sad about it. read more

We had been up in Lewiston and took the long way home, not knowing where we were we searched Yelp and saw this place close. My wife saw the menu had many good gf options so we decided to seek it out. So glad we did, we will definitely be back when we are in the area. One of the specials was a grilled peach and blueberry salad which my wife loved. My wife and I visited the Brookside tonight. We both ordered the broiled fish. The food was NOT served hot. My wife's fish was under cooked and she sent it back for a reheat in the microwave. My fish was Luke warm at best, ( not hot), but I was so hungry I just ate it. My French fry's were not hot . The rolls on our plate were hard (not soft) and seemed like they just came out of a freezer. I did see a beer battered fish go by that looked good, but we did not want the grease. I would not want to have to wait in line for that kind of food. It just doesn't seem worth it. Maybe there's not much to pick from in that area, but that food we had would get a 6 out of 10. We won't be rushing back any time soon for that fish fry. read more

Food was delicious. We ordered fish tacos, a steak hoagie and chicken and biscuits. The food as I mentioned was delicious, fair prices and generous portions. We ordered a couple desserts to go and they were good but the frosting on the carrot cake was a bit too sweet for my liking. The frosting didn't have much of a cream cheese flavor. I've been to Brookside for lunch a few times and really enjoyed their menu. Last time I tried the Rueben and it was done like your standard fare. My wife tried the potato soup and it passed the test. We recently stopped in The Brookside for lunch while in the Olcott Beach area for a festival (Pirate Festival!). The Brookside is a banquet facility that also runs a restaurant. The large open space has drop ceilings with the various sections broken up by free-standing dividers. It's not the most inviting dining set-up, it sort of feels like boxy stalls, but comfortable enough. Our server was friendly and accurate with our order. The menu has a variety of salads, sandwiches, flatbreads, burgers, panini, wraps, and mac and cheese. The prices are high for the sort of sterile and boxy venue, but the good quality and ample portion of food we received made the cost feel more fair. My husband had a french dip sandwich with chips. It was served on a decent sized baguette and with a cup of au jus. My husband said it wasn't a showstopper sandwich, but he was reasonably pleased. I had the cobb salad, no bacon. There were several interesting salads on the menu, including a roasted peach and blueberry salad. But I was in the mood for eggs and cheese, so I went with the cobb. It was a generous sized salad with fresh components. One odd element was corn kernels. I'd rather have garbanzos or snap peas in a cobb than corn niblets. But overall it was a satisfying salad. Our son's meal was the star of the table. He had the mac and cheese burger. It was a HUGE cooked-to-order burger piled high with cheese, bacon, mac and cheese, AND fried mac and cheese bites!! :-O It was pricey, almost twenty bucks, but it was a gluttonous mountain of food. (I do wish they offered a meatless patty option; I would try the mac and cheese burger sans bacon if they did.) Since we were headed to a festival with fair food, we didn't have any dessert. But The Brookside appears to specialize in a variety of layer cakes--one of which was a layered cherry chip cake!! I wish I could have brought a piece home for later, as cherry chip is a throw-back you don't see these days!! But it wouldn't have survived the hot car, so it wasn't meant to be this visit. It is a good enough reason to try The Brookside again someday--to give another big salad a go, and wash it down with a hunk of cherry chip cake next time. :-D read more

There's not many places to eat in Newfane, and this place is like a breath of fresh air. My new go to place for wings. My tablemate purchased a fish fry and said it was delicious. I have heard people rave about the food at this joint. We were debating on where to take out from tonight. We decided on this place. We called and placed the order. They said to pick up at 5:15pm. When we got there the place was literally packed. We ended up waiting a bit for our food. That made me annoyed because I was hangry. I'm glad though because the food was outstanding! Love this place! We are regulars here. They never disappoint. Connor runs the host desk, answers the phone and waits tables, always with a smile. Sarah is one of the best waitresses I've ever had. And the food? Oh my, Friday seafood specials are all excellent. Wings are great. Great soups. Flatbreads rock. The apple cranberry pecan salad is a culinary masterpiece. The nachos are huge, for sharing with the table. Prices are reasonable. Desserts are decadent. Fridays they are usually slammed, but the rest of the week there is a short wait, if any.
