We came by on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. They were not very busy and we were seated at once on their patio. I chose the Irish stew, which has pot roast, red potatoes, peas, onions, carrots, celery, and gravy. The meal was very good, and I only ate half of the portion. My wife got the Trinity sandwich, which contains grilled turkey, corned beef, pastrami, and swiss cheese, which she was also very pleased with. My pint of Guiness came with a shamrock in the foam. Stopped by per the recommendation of my daughter. I had the Trinity sandwich with turkey, pastrami and corned beef...it was delicious !!! Outdoor seating was available which worked out perfectly for the day we were there. If in Batavia again I would definitely go back!!! read more

Service at O'Lacy's has been very good, the ambience there is relaxing. I have had good food at O'lacy's for dinner, but for lunch it has not been the same quality . Rather disappointed at lunchtime. It's been a while since I've been back so I don't know if they are doing better with their lunches. read more

A number of years back in this delightfully atmospheric pub of the seemingly Boswellian tradition, under different management, in which personable and excellent service was provided, I ordered the Shepherd's Pie. How could one go wrong in an authentic-looking Irish Pub? The vegetables were apparently from a can. Are string beans usually in Shepherd's Pie? The topping of potatoes could not actually be called mashed, because there were so many chunks. My second round of dinner some weeks later I avoided the Shepherd's Pie to order Irish Stew, a special for the evening. The gravy/juice was on the sweet side and apparently from a can. Because I did not want to add to the cost of the meal to hire a detective to find any meat within the potatoes, I merely brought to the attention of the fine waitress whether there was a version of Irish Stew in which there was not any meat. She addressed this subsequently with a filled ladle. I now had more potatoes in my hot bowl. At the end of the meal she courageously asked whether I liked it. To my surprise I bluntly told her it was the worst meal I ever had in any type of restaurant. She scratched it off the bill! What happened with what I left of the meal I do not know. I concluded O'Lacy's was a great place to drink a pint. Recently and under new management the atmosphere was the same, the service was still excellent, the staff was personable, and our waitress was even entertaining. What about the food? The song, Night and Day, comes to mind. Poutine, a dish of Quebec, was surprisingly on the menu. It was hardy, filling and delicious, as a variation of the Québecois dish. The other appetizer was just as good, as well as the main meal, as recommended by the waitress. She easily could have been a character in a Seinfeld scene. Was the main course the Shepherd's Pie or the Irish Stew? No! I, however, am not any longer reluctant to try either. read more

For many years, I have been eyeing this place up. Usually when I'm in Batavia though, I'm there on a Sunday, and O'Lacy's is not open. I came here with my parents and was so thrilled. Immediately when I entered, I felt a sense of home. This pub transported me back to Ireland. I miss Ireland so much. The entire vibes of the place were positive and homey and exuded friendship. I ordered the Uncle Louie with the famous chips and it didn't disappoint. I really liked the sauce that came on the side for dipping with the chips and sandwich. It had a good flavor. My mouth is watering thinking about this sandwich and chips. The service was great as well. O'lacys is known for their perfect guinness pour so we got two. Once we sat down, the server brought us water right away but it was a minute or two for the beer because of the fancy way they pour it. Then we went to order chips and she brought us chips and dip. She was pretty brash but it made sense there. The decor is interesting, old, and irish and the patrons are mostly older too. Excellent, excellent food. I had the corned beef & cabbage dinner (priced at $13) and it was fabulous! Better than I make at home and I make a darned good corned beef brisket. My dining companions had beef on wecks and reuben sandwiches--those all came with this delicious "dip" that was like a mustard based sauce--holy wow it was delicious. 5 of us ate (with alcohol) for under $100. Great atmosphere, very fast food and service! I really enjoyed my evening here! Ample parking available. If I lived closer I would be here all the time! Very light, flakey homemade chips that are totally addicting. The ramekin is pieces of chicken wrapped in bacon and bbq sauce- so good. Burger is actually 2 patties- very flavorful and tender. I work in Batavia so I really only get here for lunch. Every time I've been here I've had a fantastic meal. It's an Irish Pub and the atmosphere is great! They have a nice little outside patio (summer time obviously!) and we love to sit outside when we can. Food - never disappoints. Last week I ordered the lunch special - chicken and biscuits. Holy cow! The portion was huge! I took about 3/4 of it home and the kids ate it for the next 2 dinners! What I loved about it is it had real chicken. BIG chunks throughout the entire dish. Delicious and Affordable! My husband left the area back in 1996. Just before they opened in 1997. We stopped in the week we moved to Corfu. My husband wanted a place that felt like a pub in Buffalo and we got a place that gave you the feel of Ireland. They have amazing home made chips served with a lemon mustard dip. This place is always busy . We stopped on a Thursday night and were lucky enough to get the last table. A nice older crowd (30's and older) We ordered their house chips ( garlic and Cajun) Both were delicious tasting. Waitress service was a little slow but considering the crowd acceptable. Would have given 5 stars however after our first round of drinks we went to order a secondhand were advised there was no more Bushnell's black label and no one had a key to the supply room. This is an Irish whiskey in an Irish bar how is that possible?!?!? Very disappointed. Bartender was great, not sure why they can't leave a key with him to store room. read more

This was our second time visiting this little Irish pub in downtown Batavia and this time we brought some friends to try it out. Apparently it's under new ownership since our last visit but still has the same great atmosphere, food, service and beverages! My husband enjoyed the Trinity sandwich which was absolutely huge and amazing! I opted for the grilled chicken breast strips which was perfect. It basically was a grilled chicken breast sliced up and served over their basket of chips. It was a perfect option for something on the healthy side and of course there were enough chips for the table to share. Others at the table enjoyed the potato soup and steamers. I'm currently in the area for work and there really isn't a whole lot happening in Batavia. I searched for some decent grub and maybe 10 places popped up. I decided to grab lunch here around 1PM and the place was pretty full! Always a good sign that an establishment is actually good :) Staff and Service: The bartender was SO friendly, greeted me when I entered and made sure to say bye as I was leaving. I waited maybe 5 minutes to get my food from the time it was ordered. Food: I got the Reuben which came with one side $8.99, I opted for the tuna fish macaroni salad... don't get it, not very good, the pasta was too soft and tasteless. The Reuben on the other hand was probably one of the best I've ever had! It was so good I finished the entire thing in one sitting - as I write this review I'm am struggling with my food coma #beingafatty FYI: They charge a $0.25 fee for take-out orders, for the containers. We were meeting a friend from Buffalo half way and we picked this spot in Batavia. It's a little hole in the wall with a small bar and probably 9 small tables. The staff was very friendly and I was greeted by everyone separately, very pleasant. They had a good variety of beers on tap and great decor. While the menu wasn't large, it was a good pub menu. We ordered the classic chips basket, extra good, which came in a few variations like cheeeesseee, Cajun, garlic and a few others. I got the fish sandwich and a side salad, other guests at my table got the chicken salad, the roast beef sandwich and the shepherd's pie. I thought my sandwich was good and I had a hearty side of tartar sauce . I tried some of the shepard's pie which needed a dash of salt and pepper, but was good. Sure, it's an Irish pub, so you certainly have an idea what you will get. And you do: the decor, etc, etc. However, it's important to note that the food really can be excellent. I found myself in Batavia two weeks in a row, and the first time I went to O'Lacy's was with some local friends. The meal was so good that I went back the next week, too, forsaking more 'fancy' type places. What drew me back was the Reuben: I understand they cure their own corned beef, and the sauerkraut is home-made as well. It was far and away the most flavorful Reuben I have ever had. They also have their own home-made potato chips, which are nice, served with their own vinaigrette type dip. So, on the basis of my good experience w/ the Reuben, I thought to try another sandwich. The grilled chicken sandwich w/ blackening seasoning was good, but not nearly as special as the Reuben. Still, reasonably priced for lunch/dinner with a beer, so you can't turn it down. read more

My favorite bar in Batavia! This cozy little pub was the first place my now husband took me when we started dating. The drafts are awesome. I recommend the Snakebite - Woodchuck Cider and Guinness....by the way they have the BEST Guinness! They used to have the best draft Blue Moon but unfortunately they stopped selling it. The food is great...homemade chips with a Riviera type dip, the beef on weck, the Uncle Tom, they are all good. I am partial to the Dooley Basket which includes sliced grilled chicken breast on top of homemade chips. Intimate atmosphere, the bartenders and servers are always welcoming and treat you like your are on Cheers where everyone knows your name! O'Lacy's is my favorite Irish pub in Western NY. Walk inside and you'll immediately be transported to any one of the small pubs dotting the Irish countryside. At these magnificent places, the stew is warm, the Guinness is fresh and the craic is infectious. O'Lacys on a good day is all of these things. Ok, so their fish and chips aren't served with French fries, just home made potato "crisps," but their food is generally good, especially the stew. Overview: Typical Irish dive bar. Nothing special but considering the limited options in Batavia it was pretty good. Drinks: My girlfriend tried the snake bite (Guinness & Woodchuck) and a bass beer. I got the perfect pour Guinness and an Irish coffee. The drinks were good and around 6 dollars. Food: The sandwiches and burgers were pretty good. I got the o'lacy burger as the additional toppings sounded good, however I found having two patties to be quite excessive and difficult to eat. The "famous" chips were just okay. Don't get the red velvet cake... It was not very good. Decor: Typical Irish pub blanketed in eclectic knickknacks. There is a covered outdoor patio which was very nice.
