Stopped by here for coffee when the bf and I were in town. The place looked quite awesome inside: occult decorations, themed drinks and deserts, and some great packaging. I opted for a simple drip coffee, which took a little while to come out, surprisingly. Once I actually got my coffee though, I was pretty disappointed as my coffee was lukewarm. We had to go, though, so I just suffered with my poorly served drink, which probably would've been awesome if it was served to me within its intended temperature. Nevertheless, I feel like perhaps they were having a rough morning, and I'd come back here to give them another shot. I've driven 20 miles from Mesa for the past 3 days simply to indulge myself at Dark Hall Coffee. It's bad. But so, so good. I was originally drawn in by the awesome Moon Goddesss Market wall mural on their side and the promise of vegan coffee and baked goods. I'm not vegan, but as a lactose semi-tolerant asian, non dairy milks are always welcome. The guy who works here is really nice and suggested I get the lavender oat milk latte, which I did. All 3 visits. Dark Hall Coffee's lavender latte just shits on the overpriced lavender latte I used to get back home in Hawaii. And the barista here is magic - the latte is just so well balanced! Not too sweet, distinct coffee flavor that's mellow and not burnt like Starbucks or sour like some other coffees. WITH latte art. Minus this last visit, where I think a new worker made my drink. The guy ALSO suggested my favorite pastry I've had here - the chocolate banana cake. It is so freakin good...rich, moist and oh so chocolately. I've also had the plum crumb cake (the plum pieces were delicious, but the ends that didn't have any were kind of dry and hard) and a cherry almond galette with cinnamon crumble (a little too sweet but overall yummy). Do check this place out! There's one table and two high bar tables inside, along with a few tables right outside. They do have good WiFi, but unfortunately only one outlet by the indoor table. Dark hall is usually one of my go-to coffee shops. Has great espresso and I love how it is 100% vegan. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed today when ordering a matcha latte. I'm not sure if their matcha whisk is missing but from the first sip I had chunks of matcha in my mouth. I ended up taking the drink home and straining it so it could be consumed. Best pastries I have ever had! My boyfriend's family and I love coming here and getting their pastries whenever we have a chance. I found Dark Hall via IG about 1/2 a year ago. Everything they offer screams to me: vegan food, gothic theme, colorful drinks, tasty baked goods, so when I found out my family was flying in and out of Phoenix to get to Tucson, I told them this was a necessary stop for me. We easily found Dark Hall, and thankfully it's fairly close to the airport - we were hitting it and then flying back to SLC. It's a lot smaller inside than I was expecting, but they still offer a nice selection of goods and drinks. After making all of our decisions on treats, we got the mother's day special: mulberry lemonade, with a jalapina (jalapeno and pineapple infused cold brew) with a ton of pastries to share: a slice of their vanilla raspberry buttercream cake, a black, lavender short bread cookie, a chocolate chip cookie, and a cinnamon roll. OMG. Everything was extremely tasty. I was shocked at their vegan buttercream - it was by far the best I've ever had. We tried a lot, and yet there were still so many I wanted to taste. Dark Hall is adorable, delicious, and 100% cruelty free and I love that. Though I am rarely in Phoenix, I'd definitely make a stop in again if I find myself there. So yummy! read more

We honestly had no idea what that or Dark Hall was, but after finding it online and calling, we were so pleased with the amazing customer service and help we received. I stopped by while looking for a unique vegan coffee shop and this is exactly that! Immediately I was drawn to their mango cold brew. It was such a unique pairing and it was definitely executed well! Typically, with fruity infusions you get a tart flavor. This was far from that. It was straightforward even to clearly taste the mango, but also not overpowering. I got mine with oat milk and no ice. Now, this might be a pet peeve of mine but it really frustrates me when coffee shops don't just fill your cup when you ask for no ice. As a past barista, I feel like patrons are paying for the drink, not the ice. This was a minor inconvenience though and I will definitely return in the future. If you plan on traveling with your coffee, you might want to bring a separate travel mug. I had to take my cup without a lid, because the barista couldn't get the lid to fit. Again, I very minor inconvenience but I am way too clumsy for that. Last, but not least...THE. CHOCOLATE. BANANA. CAKE. OMG. It was sooooo moist and flavorful. Still not a coffee drinker, but I will make the trip to off the beaten path coffee shops like this one if good eats await. The Phoenix New Times gave this place its coveted "Best Place Not To Have A Cow" award in 2018 (and by coveted I mean totally made up). I assume this refers to the fact that (like their flagship coffee shop, The Coronado) they serve 100% vegan drinks and foods (all made in house) at their shop. I'm a carnie, but I've been to standout vegan spots like Green, Nami, Treehouse, and The Coronado enough times to know that vegan can also be delicious. So on a Saturday morning en route to the grocery store, I made a quick stop here. Dark Hall is a little tough to find so here's the basic gist. On the southeast corner of 7th Avenue and Osborn, you'll see Mi Patio. Just to the south and east of Mi Patio, you'll find Dark Hall's dark signage. The space is quite small (seating for maybe 20 including inside and outside) but sleek, not unlike Futuro and other similarly designed urban coffee shops. Drinks to your left, pastries to your right. In addition to coffee, Dark Hall serves teas as well as a Brown Sugar Lemonade. Not in the mood for tea, I opted for said lemonade. As for the pastry display, there were about 10 tasty looking items to choose from. After extremely careful consideration, I opted for two sweet treats in particular. A slice of plum cake and a slice of their pumpkin bundt cake (yes, I'm basically having dessert for breakfast leave me alone). Total cost for the food, drink, and tax came to $12. Did it provide the prerequisite morning pick me up? The lemonade was quite delicious. Though honestly it was hard to distinguish from most regular lemonades I've had as I didn't detect anything distinguishing about the brown sugar element. As for the cakes, that was a different story entirely. Again, both 100% vegan which usually means super dense. And these were no exception. The plum cake was a very pleasant, slightly tart treat with a nice sugary crumble crust to match. But the pumpkin bundt cake was out of this world. The cake itself was super moist and I really loved the frosting topped off with candied walnuts on top for an extra crunch. Super tasty way to start off the day. Dark Hall doesn't quite have the charm or the traditional coffee house feel that The Coronado's beautiful bungalow space does. But owner Liam Murtagh has certainly brought the Coronado's talent for great pastries to Dark Hall, and in the process given this transforming intersection of town a morning neighborhood haunt. And Liam, if you're reading this, please don't EVER take that pumpkin bundt cake off the menu. read more

They do have outside seating but it's just a few tables on the side, so best for groups of 2, and dogs are allowed! It's always a real pleasure to visit Dark Hall. The drinks are my favorite in town. I love that they carry oat milk. It's the creamy best for a faux milk. My favorite non-coffee bev is the golden milk with oat milk. (This might be my favorite drink anywhere honestly!) To go with the drinks, they also have amazing pastries. They even do a vegan macaron! They are perfect too! And aside from awesome drinks and treats, the staff is so nice! Well, I heard this new establishment was created by some of the fine people who worked over at the Coronado restaurant. This place is 100% VEGAN...and they are serving locally brewed Xanadu Coffee. They make their own milk and pastries in-house and I highly recommend the Cinnamon Roll...simply DELICIOUS!!!! The Plum Cake, Raspberry Cinnamon Roll, and the Salted Carmel Cookie are also "must try" items on the menu. The service is great but you will have to wait...the coffee is "made to order" and as you know you can't rush perfection people...LOL!!!! Why not 5 Stars you ask...well the prices are a bit steep but definitely worth it. Example being we paid 15 bucks for 2 drinks and 2 pastries...not terrible but again that is why I took off one star. Coming from out of state I was worried about visiting Dark Hall despite wanting to try it forever (due to so many bad Yelp reviews) but decided to give it a chance anyway. The two baristas were actually very nice, friendly, and helpful. The vanilla oatmilk latte I got was very good. My only complaint is that it could have been a little hotter but I still very much enjoyed it. Their cinnamon rolls were amazing and so soft and fresh. I also loved the dark goth-y ambiance. Right up my alley. Would definitely come back if not just for the pastries alone. read more

This coffee place is A-mazing. I spend weekends trying new coffee places and this has been one of the best. They are all vegan, but the flavor and moist-ness of their bakery items is beyond compare. The orange soda coffee was interesting to try. Their mocha flavor is perfect. It has a beautiful well balanced espresso taste with a very smooth finish and is not too sweet. It is plenty strong enough as the two shots included are long pulled?( not correct verbiage I'm sure) the cake, banana bread, pear coffee cake and pastry I can't pronounce starting with a g I think... are TO DIE FOR.
