Luncehon special is great. It is buffet style with usually 2-3 meat dishes and 2-3 vegetarian dishes to choose from and all the nan you can eat. The also have a wonderful rice pudding sooo rich and creamy! Host/owner(?) was very friendly and didn't even charge for my daughter (who ate nan, salad & rice). I highly reccomend. Just wonderful! If you like Pakistani cuisine, you'll love Darbar. Last week my father brought me to Darbar for lunch. On the way to the restaurant I asked, "Why are we driving to Brighton when there are so many restaurants in Cambridge that serve Indian/Pakistani food." He told me his Pakistani friends brought him there a couple of months ago and he liked it so much he wanted me to try it. Definitely glad we went! The food was terrific. And the owner and his wife are gracious and hospitable. Here's a tip about parking. . . . . look closely at the No Parking signs. It's not as bad as it appears. You'll see that a lot of signs have smaller print that says no parking between 4-6pm. Looking forward to eating at Darbar again!! read more

Eh, I ordered take-out and got palak gosht and keema naan. From the outside you are not really sure what to expect. One you get inside, it is pretty nice. Just a little dim lit. Sizable dining area probably a capacity of like 60ish. Was not to busy they day I went in to place my order. So anyways nothing interesting happened while I was waiting. Anyways, the palak gosht was salty. Like I love salt, and usually most places are not salty enough due to people on low sodium diets or whatever. But this was like ahhh. But the goat was good otherwise. Didn't realize the order of palak gosht only got me a pint food container (some reason I assumed rice was included with the price tag of ~$12.) My fault for not checking before I left. The keema naan was different. I never had Pakistani naan, let alone keema naan. I liked it though. What was different for me compared to when I get keema naan at Indian places was the meat and the naan itself. The meat was like a meat paste/patty inside the naan rather than minced meat. It sort of looked like something that was also cut with flour(based on cooking experience it helps form patties and gives a different texture.) When I first bit into it I was like is that cheese? So yeah... SURPRISE!!! Cool fact they got buffet during the weekend. I will give it another chance for goat curry. Most likely dine-in to see if there is a difference. Not a place I would go out of my way for but would drop by if I was in the area. read more

Mediocre haleem with very little meat. When I order for take out during their dinner all you can eat special, I would expect it to be better than buffet quality. I'd give them 2 stars but they get a point for actually making their haleem "real" spicy, with chopped up jalepenos, and their garlic naan, which I would say is better than average. read more

My friend loves this place and requested it for our take-out fest, so I of course agreed. Personally, I don't see why she gives them such a love-fest. My best guess is that the meat products are far better than the veg ones, since that's the main difference between us. My usual go-to veg option was not offered (malai kofta) so I got palak paneer, along with two different types of naans to share with my friend (garlic and regular). The people at the desk (that's the only way to describe it) were nice enough, but one of the owners was wandering around the restaurant on his bluetooth, and there was a huge tv on, rather like you'd expect to see in a sports bar. I was very glad we weren't staying there to eat. As we were leaving, my friend mentioned she forgot to get rice. I assumed she meant EXTRA rice since EVERY Indian/Pakistani restaurant I've ever been to includes at least some rice with their meals. APPARENTLY NOT. These people charged us around $40 for two entrees and two naans and didn't give us any rice. They charge extra for it. WTF I also will say the palak paneer was greasy and gave me a stomach-ache, something that doesn't usually happen to me from Indian/Pakistani food. But, my meat-eating friend was happy, so perhaps the meat dishes are better? Buyer beware, though, no rice with your meals. *smdh* read more

Disappointing! I ordered over $80 worth of food and was terribly let down. Firstly, the service was horrible. And considering I only got take out...all you had to do was smile when I walk in, and thank me for the order. Didn't even get a word out of the guy, maybe a grunt. Have to admit, food was spicy. Ordered 3 different kababs, none were tasty. The naan looked and tasted like it came out of a box. The chicken in the pulao was dry and overcooked. The vegetable curry was nothing to write home about. Had tastier chicken tikka masala elsewhere, and the carrot halwa was not sweet enough. The aloo gobi was way too spicy. This was my first time eating Pakistani. I pass this place going to and from work and class and have always been curious. I came all the way from Lexington to meet up with friends for dinner here. When we walked in there was a family of 5 who appeared to be Pakistani eating and enjoying, so we knew it was a good sign if they ate there. The interior was simple, bright, and clean. The service was prompt and friendly, and who I think was the owner kept filling our water glasses even after we had paid and were just sitting talking with our friends and had a nice conversation with us. There was a buffet available, but we opted to order off the menu because the dishes we wanted weren't on the buffet. But the buffet did look very fresh and was steaming hot. For those of you who don't know what Pakistani cuisine is like (I didn't before eating here) it's very similar to Indian although it has a slight middle eastern touch with chickpeas and other ingredients. We got two goat dishes (one was a great curry that was a mild-medium spicy), a chicken dish, naan, sauteed mustard greens (i'd never had them but they were tasty), pakoras (highly recommend them), samosas, and mango lassis. The dishes all had distinct flavors, the naan could have used some more butter. The meats were tender but there was a fair amount of bone, still good though. The lassis were nice and thick but a bit on the sweet side for me, but everyone else liked them. At the end we got dessert of these fried sweet cheese balls with a sweet sauce (I forget what they are called). I should have just had the lassi for dessert because I was so full! All in all, a great night out. I will definitely go again. Oh, and for 5 people with 3 main dishes, 1 side vegetable, 3 appetizers, 3 lassis, 2 orders of dessert, 2 orders of naan, and 2 orders of rice (we really only needed one) it came to $21 pp all inclusive, which isn't bad for a night out for good food. read more

I was recommended by a friend that this is the most authentic Indian cuisine in Boston. I walked in the restaurant and there was more than 20 people in traditional Indian dresses inside. Authentic indeed. The food was great in general. We have been there 3-4 times now and every time the owner persuaded us to try the brain curry. Need to find the will someday : ) read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I love Darbar and whenever my husband and I are close enough we order from here because the food is delicious. I love the Aloo Palak and my husband varies up between goat curry and the tikka masala. We always order veggie somosas and garlic naan. Not what I was expecting...wasnt heated enough to sit comfortably with taking coat off, one beef option, buffet didn't have burners on and or the trays were open so everything was luke warm. Food was not that great at all, beef wasn't even cooked all the way. We had a late lunch here and really enjoyed it. We had the samosa chaat as an appetizer which was delicious. It has a lot of great textures and flavors (probably my favorite thing we ate). We also had their chicken tikka and dal fry. Both were great and had excellent spice levels. The naan was different from the Indian naan we're used to but we both loved it. Finally a good place serving Indian/Pakistani food. I have been here once and ordered once, and both the experiences have been good. While at the restaurant, we opted for al carte, but I am sure the buffet service is good too. The kebabs are to die for and biryanis are good. The staff is very nice and helpful. Had high hopes from a new Pakistani sit-down place and sadly it didn't quite make the mark. The place is hygienic and spacious. This is a family run place so while they are cordial, do not expect professional service. We had a 10/11 year old girl serving us, with help from her sister (presumably). We were there for the weekend dinner buffet which has a weak selection and is rather overpriced at $14.95 a pop. The food itself was plain mediocre. Everything was edible but for someone who knows Pakistani food, it was fairly obvious that they are using jarred sauces and boxed spice-mixes in preparing their dishes. The Chicken Korma was ok, Chicken Biryani was pretty decent and the Naans were made just right and served at the table. Haleem was a huge disappointment; absolutely flavorless. We didn't care much for the desert (they had Kheer). Since this place is only a month old and run by non-pros, I think they are still getting their act together and will get better. Also, perhaps ordering a-la-carte may be a different experience. I will give them another shot at some point. read more

The best Indian/Pakistani food I had in United States..period! I had been there 3 times so far .. and all those times for weekend buffet.. the food was exceptionally good ! Went to this place last night with my wife. Just any other Indo-Pak restaurant, owners wants to cover both Indian & Pakistsni folks. We ordered Beef Nihari, below par taste & wasn't warmed enough. We also ordered Goat Brain Masala, which tasted little better than Nihari. Naans were very heavy, the type that you eat with korma not nihari. Upon asking they made us two hot chapatys which was nice of them. Old home-style tea was great, a must have if you like strong tea. Service is below par as expected but the owner seemed to be a good man, nice & humble. Overall I would give place a B minus. read more

Figured i would try this place based on the reviews. First off i recieved a portion equivalent to a lunch portion at punjab palace but at twice the price. I had chicken tikka masala,it was a disgrace,it was as if someone poured a can of creamy tomato soup over 4 small chunks of dry chicken. It had zero flavour except for tasting like heinz tomato soup.The basmati rice was way over cooked. I also nearly choked on a huge chicken bone that somehow found its way into a boneless chicked dish. The establishment looked dirty inside and looked like someone converted their sitting room at home into a makeshift restuarant. I won't be returning and will stick with punjab palace which i have found to be excellent and half the price. read more

We went for a lunch on Sunday and were not very happy with the food and the service. The food is very oily and salty. The dining area is not warm and welcoming. NEVER go to this restaurant. Never ever ever ever.....unless you have too much money to throw away. I am from Pakistan and look for places for good desi food, but this was sheer DISAPPOINTMENT. Don't try Chicken Tikka Masala, Nihari, Paye, Gosht Karachi or any other specialty. They put so much salt in Chicken tikka masala and no spices in Gosht Karahi. When we told them our feedback they put the entire blame on us that we didn't tell in advance that we like less salt and more spices. No one greeted us when we entered this restaurant. Order taker was confused and non-helping. If you are asian then restaurant owners and management starts taking you for granted and we had WORST service experience with this restaurant. Food is over priced and not even worth trying. Don't ever go there with your spouse, it will simply ruin your mood and day. read more

I have been to this place a couple of times and their food was very good each time. Once, they had an open buffet, which I don't usually like, but this one was one of the best buffets I have tried. They had more than 6 meat options which included chicken, goat, lamb, beef, and fish! They all were very delicious. However they indicated that the buffet is not a weekly thing but rather occasional. So if you are going for that you are better off calling ahead and asking. The worse case is that they will have the regular menu which is still very good. The brain curry was to die for and extremely creamy and tasty.
