I have hired Dan for many tasks. That were very technical and I have seen him personally perform on a the highest possible level while using the most sophisticated equipment. I do not believe there is anyone more professional than Dan, I really do not want the attention to his shop because I use him on a regular basis on many of my cars and trucks. I give him the highest rating and it from knowing him and watching him work on Jaguars to Jeeps to my 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback where he had to redo the rack and pinion steering manufactured by Total Control. He had to tear down the work someone else did and he found the problem. This applies to my rear spring perches that Mike Mair had to redo at NO Charge as Mike is a stand up person that races his car at Del Mar. He is tops in his field there is NO DOUBT. read more

Dan's Precision Alignment - 1977 Honda CB 550 - Auto Repair Near Me - Encinitas, California

My sons truck was scary to drive on the road. Dan replaced all the worn out bushings and missing parts. The truck now drives like a new car. read more

**CONSUMER BEWARE** After so many years of working with and giving my business to Dan (~17 years), it pains me to write this negative review. However, something has definitely changed with Dan - level of customer service, attentiveness, completeness - over the past couple of years, perhaps since COVID. The purpose of this review is to provide feedback to the Yelp community so that you can avoid falling victim to his declining business practices like I have. This last experience was extremely frustrating and it will be my last: after having set up an appointment 3 weeks in advance for a fairly standard transmission/drivetrain fluids service on my Gen 3 4runner, Dan sends a text - THE NIGHT BEFORE the appointment, simply "sorry, can't do your service tomorrow". Nothing else, no background on why, etc. Come to find out, Dan had dropped the ball and did not order the materials needed ahead of my service appointment. Pretty basic task! Even knowing that this fluid service was needed in advance of a long, 2k mi road trip I was about to take (in a 25 year old car), Dan offered zero apology and accepted no responsibility for the screw up. Wow, talk about customer service! When asked when the soonest the vehicle could come in for the service, with an almost with a "its your fault attitude", Dan stated it wouldn't be until after the new year. I pushed back a bit, reminding him of the situation (that he dropped the ball big time, forthcoming road trip, etc), he suggested for me to source the materials, and that if I could do that, he would make time for the fluids service in time for my trip. OK fine - seems like the least he could do. Despite spending 2+hrs of my time research the correct oils/fluids, sourcing them and finally procuring them, when calling Dan to schedule the "make-up" service, he completely (and belligerently) reneged. And in an obscenity-laden, nonchalant manner, told me that he couldn't do the service until after the new year and to go somewhere else. Incredible! I'm concerned that Dan may be back on drugs. But in the end, I'm more concerned for you the reader/consumer's safety and well being, should you make the wrong decision and allow dan to work on YOUR vehicle ...who knows what the outcome will be. Please feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions.. **CONSUMER BEWARE** read more

Had my car towed to Dan's as a result of poor workmanship at a shop in vista. Dan took care of everything, was knowledgeable, honest and fair priced. Would definitely recommend to anyone needing alignment, brake or suspension work. read more

Great service, clean well stocked shop. Pricing was very competitive and work was performed on time allotted. Will return for service again. read more

Dan is a great guy. He's serviced our vehicles for years. Does quality work for a fair price.

Wow! Friendly, honest, quality work, at a good price. I visited Dan one afternoon when he had a packed schedule. I had a road trip in a week, so he worked hard to fit me in before I left. Hanging out in his shop while he worked was fun. Dan is knowledgeable and provides good advice/information, but more so, he's just a good dude who makes good conversation if you want it. He's been in business 20 years as of this week, and I felt confident I was in good hands the whole time. I should point out, any time I saw other customers, they seemed to know him and like him too. Repeat business is a plus! So yeah. go see him. I certainly intend to return. read more

Terrible customer service, trying to scam people for the highest buck. Wouldn't even provide a price quote for a simple new tire installation saying, "It's not worth my time" but his good price is very high ! STAY AWAY read more

I found Dan's Precision Alignment about 15 years ago when I needed an alignment for my Volvo. When my daughters started driving, their cars were older and had issues and he always helped with their issues with very fair prices and great work. With newer cars and a bit of luck we had not seen Dan for at least 5 or 6 years when the driver side window on my Volt failed to roll back up. I called a few auto glass places and got quotes before I thought to call Dan. His quote was the best and he was able to get the part and fix it the same day. I am so glad I thought to call him. read more

After just having purchased a new set of tires (after 10 years with the original ones - too long), I decided to have a wheel alignment. After seeing the very positive yelp reviews and wanting to support local businesses, I decided to try Dan's Precision Alignment. I called Dan, and his earliest appointment available was 4 days, which I took, and he gave me a price up front. Very efficient and professional. Upon meeting Dan, I saw that he is basically a one-man operation. He does the work, he answers the phone, he takes the payment, he maintains the shop, etc. He is a VERY nice and friendly person, and seems very competent. His shop looks good. And, wheel alignment is his specialty. I felt good about leaving my car in his hands. Dan likes to schedule 1-2 hours for an alignment - mine took about an hour (my car was probably on the lesser side of needing work, so I wouldn't be surprised if some alignments took significantly more time). Upon getting the car, I was happy that Dan took some time to explain how he works and his principles of operation, and some of his background. Seems to be a very honest and no-nonsense type of person, which I appreciated. Finally, upon driving away, I was really impressed with how much smoother my car felt! While I noticed an improvement after having gotten new tires, I noticed a BIGGER improvement after the wheel alignment. Very satisfied with the wheel alignment, and I'm happy I had Dan do the work. I'll definitely return in case I ever need other work done. His good reviews are definitely well earned, and I'm happy to add mine to the list. read more

Dan was great. Accommodated to my schedule and got my alignment done in about an hour. Really nice guy and easy to do business with. I would highly recommend utilizing Dan and his services. read more

My fellow Yelp friends led me to Dan with their honest reviews. Dan's Precision Alignment is truly deserving of all 5 stars, they earned them. Alignment is so important after purchasing tires if you want them to last. Dan takes his time checking everything and my car drove so smoothly after it was done. But better yet, he is such a perfectionist that he has you come in after 1,000 miles to tighten everything up and make sure that the alignment took properly. I am so happy that I found this great locally owned business. read more

Superb customer service! This guy is legit. He is friendly, professional, on time, and does quality work. The price point is fair and he lets you know ahead of time. We will definitely be taking all our vehicles here for alignment needs. read more

Dan did a great job. There was an initial alignment and then he wanted me to come back after some miles to see if it needed tweaking. Enjoyed chatting with him and appreciated his good work. read more

The splash guard of my car popped out while driving down California in Encinitas on my way to college, I called Dan's store desperate for any shop specialty or not that could help me and Dan offered his service in under an hour from the incident. He had my car problem fixed in an hour and I made it to my final destination no problem. His price truly is unbeatable like what the other reviews have said and his customer service/ friendliness is amazing! Thank you Dan! read more

My mom and I ran into car problems while driving through Encinitas, an area we are very unfamiliar with. We were panicked because no shop was open on a Saturday but Dan happened to be at his shop about to work on his own car! He so very kindly adjusted his schedule to help repair our car in a timely manner! He is so friendly and very kind and not to mention his pricing is also very reasonable. So thankful for Dan and will definitely be returning if we run into any issues down in the San Diego area! read more

If you're looking for an honest mechanic, Dan's your guy. I have had bad experiences with Discount Tire, Pep Boys and local repair shops because they tried to sell me an alignment, new brakes, new tires, etc. when I didn't need them. Dan is honest, knowledgeable, professional, and a straight shooter. Dan's prices are always reasonable and he will tell you if your car doesn't need service. read more

Dan does great work, he is honest and fair priced. I had a big lifted truck, and he was able to do it. He even found 20 bucks under my seat, and gave it back to me read more

Dan got me in and out in 90 minutes for a reasonable price. Plus he is open Saturday which is huge for me. I can easily recommend this alignment shop. read more

Dan is the man. When i bought my truck used it was a bit off when I drove it. I changed a few things such as the suspension and tires and it was a little better, But it still had a bit of a wobble. Dan took his time and found out both the camber and toe were off on all 4 tires. The truck is perfect and drives like new. Instead of sending me to another shop, Dan located the parts I needed and did a same day install and alignment. His work is worth the money and price is very fair. Very busy on Saturdays and that's a very good thing as a consumer. Plenty of people needing his quality of service and work. Schedule an appointment early. read more

Had the opportunity to meet Dan, very nice very readable and knowledgeably. his shop is clean and organized and took. The time to explain what the issues where how best to fix them and what causes them. It's seem hard to find honest and trustworthy in some business these days but I think Dan has both. I highly recommend this business and they do more then alignments they do full auto repair. read more

Dan checked out my Toyota Highlander days after I bought used from Carmax. He squeezed me in last minute, was thorough w pictures, making notes and guidance through the rest. Saved me from spending a fortune outside my warranty and I was able to take back to Carmax for full repairs with Dan's finds. He further checked their work a week later on tight notice and fixed some minor things onsite. I'll be taking all my vehicles to him from now on. Extensive knowledge and very fair price. read more

I just called Dan's precision alignment to ask for a quote on my 2014 Toyota Tacoma 4 x 4. He asked me what size tires were on it, stock size. He asked me if it was lifted, it is not. He gave me $100 quote and was very professional. He said he's booked until next Monday or Tuesday which is understandable because it's the week of Christmas. I have taken alignment courses in auto mechanics in college, and could tell he knew what he was talking about. I'll be bringing it in next week, and let y'all know how the work is. read more

Ok, I guess it's the right thing to do - I will share that Dan is my go-to mechanic. He is super knowledgeable and fair with his pricing. I have a big family of drivers and Dan is where I send everyone now. My pretty Acura wagon is finally moving down the highway smoothly! After being told my vibration issues were struts, motor mounts, tires, alignment, and more, Dan correctly figured out it was a cracked axle. All better now! Thanks Dan! Now please don't get TOO BUSY!!! read more

My wife made an appointment for 9 am. We waited there until 9:40 am when Dan finally arrived. He never even said sorry for being late. Then he doesn't call when the car is ready for pick up, we have to call him. He does good work, but he doesn't seem into it anymore. Bummer. read more

I have a level kit with some aftermarket suspension parts and new shocks on my 06 Tundra. Had the truck at American Tire and they could not align it- it drove worse after the attempted alignment. They recommended I go to a specialty shop. I found Dan on Yelp and set up an appointment. He was waiting for me upon my arrival, was courteous and respectful and handled the alignment in and hour and a half. He stuck to his quote and the truck drives great. Thanks Dan! read more

Edit; I gave Dan another try and told him that I understood his thought process for not accepting the blame for the work done incorrectly and we talked about it and I'm back to bringing my car's here First off I would like to say dan is very good at his job he is aligned several of my vehicles where other people couldn't get it right. The situation arose where he didn't return my calls for scheduling a thousand mile realignment after the initial alignment in my tires on the front started wearing oddly both of them I took it in she told me I needed to take better care of my car that I didn't rotate the tires which I do rotate the tires this time they were two to three thousand miles over the standard 5000 mile rotation not enough to cause any problems. Then he was unwilling to align the car but putting the bad tires on the rear and the good tires on the front . My main purpose for taking it in was it felt like something was going bad on the front and one tie rod end ball joint something and when he said he saw that where and what no line up with those tires and would not put the good tires on the front to check the alignment and mainly find out what component if any was filling he wanted me to take the car back at the end of the day go buy new tires which those were new tires before he got hold of it and then bring it back in. After speaking with other shops in one shop evaluating the alignment issue it was found that he did make a mistake in his initial alignment and that's fine we all make mistakes it's how we handle them. When I told him I had called him twice and left a voicemail regarding my thousand mile check up and he never got back to me he stated quote you need to stay on top of these things. Well yes I do but how many calls does it take for you to stay on top of your customer service? When the economy was bad dan bent over backwards for his customers now he's an effing primadonna that has cost me quite a bit of money. Odds are he's going to do a bang up job a great job on your car but watch out for his mood swings read more

Dan's is an amazing place to take your car for any possible problem, help, or need. Plus he is there on SATURDAY! I took my VW convertible there when the window decided to stop working right before a rainy weekend in SD- bad timing. He went out of his way to do the research and find the part I needed for $400 bucks less than other places quoted me for. He really treats each patron with respect. He really cared about me and my car being wonderful! I cannot reccomend Dan's enough to everyone for all your vehicle needs :) Small, friendly, fabulous work, and wonderful!!! read more

Dan made some recommendations for maintenance and updates to our 2003 Accord. He potentially extended the life of our vehicle and saved it from near death. Our timing belt made it to 140,000mi(way beyond safe usage) and our O2 censor was replaced. Rather than doing partial replacement on just the timing belt, Dan did replacements to the water pump, tensioner and any other part needing updating in the belt system. He shared that he does a complete overhaul because if any of the other parts break it takes just as much time to get in there to fix it; he likes to be thorough and use quality manufacturer parts and OEM when needed. He values doing the job once and doing it right for long haul. I appreciate his communication in regard to explaining how the mechanics function and getting the most out of the vehicle. He's honest on time and communicates if any changes to the schedule arise. He doesn't push parts and services like other shops Ive been to. He speaks honestly and prices considerately. I highly recommend Dan and his team! If your looking for a qualified non-dealership mechanic he is a gem. read more

Great service, honest and trustworthy. Even asks you to come back after 1000 miles to double check that everything is still perfect.

Wonderful guy, great price and excellent work. I highly recommend Dan. He's the best in North County.

Found Dan's Precision Alignment on Yelp, called, got a good feeling, and brought my car in. And I'm glad I did! He knows cars and alignment, is honest, fair, and does great work. I hit a tall curb a year ago, had it fixed, but it was never right. My car squeaked and thumped when going over small bumps at slow speeds. After a through inspection, he found a missing motor mount bolt, loose cross member bolts, and a ball joint that just needed lubrication. The price was surprisingly low, and I'm happy. Thanks Dan! read more

Great service. Dan did our four wheel alignment in the time frame that he said he would and for the price he quoted up front. I highly recommend this business. I will definitely be back when the need arises. read more

Hands down, one of the best service providers out there. I showed up for an alignment and was blown away by the service. Dan initially took the car for a test drive to make sure there were no other issues. He then got under the car and made sure the front end was as it should be. He reviewed the tread on my tires and suggested a rotation next time its serviced. He then spent the next hour doing a precision alignment. After completion, he took it for another test drive just to make sure everything was correct. Told me to come back in 1,000 miles for a free checkup. You will not find a better alignment shop in San Diego, trust me. If its worth doing, its worth doing right. read more
