TOURIST TRAP!!! You should definitely come here if you want to spend a lot of your hard earned money on some really disgusting food. I ordered a multimillion dollar Ossobuco which came out slimy and grey, so bad I wouldn't let my dog eat it! The cook (not chef) made me a plate of terrible mush and then had the nerve to send it out for me to eat! Then, just to get something fast, I ordered ravioli. They tasted frozen and were swimming in the most unappetizing soup of tomato sauce. The cook then has even more nerve to come out and ask me how everything is! No customer should have to go toe-to-toe with a lazy cook after already eating two expensive disappointing entrees. She probably thinks she does a good job. An infant could do better. We had a divine meal here last night. We started with the mussels, which were served with a light smattering of tomato and garlic. They were excellent. We also shared a plate of pacheri al fungi, which was so good we licked the plate. The pasta is like giant, flat rigatoni, and the sauce was a super mushroomy cream sauce. Yum! I returned to Daniela for lunch this past week and was really happy with my experience. It was far less crowded for lunch and the service was excellent. I got the gluten free gnocchi and absolutely loved it. It was super filling and the sauce was just exceptional. They were even nice enough to make me a little piece of gluten free focaccia. It was even better than the sourdough-esque GF bread they gave me last time. I wish I wouldn't have eaten the bread so fast so I could've scooped up all the leftover sauce with it. Maybe next time ;) Everytime I come here, I'm always impressed with the number of gluten free options. As a pasta lover who has only just recently had to give up gluten, I can't personally tell the difference because the flavor and texture is just so spot on. It's a pleasant enough place, with sidewalk seating, enclosed outdoor seating, and indoor. The inside decor is somewhat rustic, reminding of Sicily, and tables are far enough apart that dining is comfortable. Though the table for two, which we had, is very very small. The Verde salad was supposed to be a spring mix, but turned out to be arugula, with just a few tomatoes and olives, and was quickly very boring. The caprese salad was cherry tomatoes, tiny balls of mozzarella cut in half, and almost no basil. Fortunately the tomatoes, were good. My wife enjoyed her saccottini de granchio, and I thought the tomato sauce was very good. I tried the frenula con cocciulas because I've never had it before. It was milder than I expected for a Sicilian dish, and tasty, though it had a lot of white beans which wasn't mentioned on the menu. For dessert we shared the millefogle al cioccolato, and I should have known better. The hazelnut cream was very good, but puff pastry doesn't like being frozen and tasted like thin sheets of cold cardboard. The wine list was presentable, and the two different glasses we had were good, but poorly represented in dime store wine glasses. Service was okay, but rather indifferent and cold. My used fork from my salad was taken off my plate and put back on the table. Really!! Is it really a burden to wash an extra fork?? I had to ask for bread plates and spent wine glasses to be taken off the table before dessert. At $135 before tip for a simple dinner of pastas they could have done much, much better. read more

Loved this restaurant! Located in Hampden and known for their traditional Sardinian cuisine. The ambiance was very nice, especially as someone who doesn't usually like sitting outside in a restaurant. There were heaters, lights, and plants, making it a great location to sit at. I was also a huge fan of the food options, which were very broad and delicious. As someone that doesn't eat beef, there were two separate vegetarian lasagna options. I had the mushroom one (the lasagna verde al funghi), which was perfectly cheesy and savory. My friend ate the fregula con cocciulas, which featured a small couscous-like pasta shape slow cooked with clams. The drink menu was also quite long, featuring many authentic Italian wines. The service was very quick and kind, and the servers quickly turned on the heaters in the outdoor seating space when it was cold. Left super satisfied and will definitely be returning! read more

While this is still great Italian food, the quality unfortunately is not the same as in previous years. The veggies in the grilled vegetable appetizer had a mushy, watery texture, as if they had been microwaved. The added chicken breast was inconsistent: some pieces were fine, but some were dry and rubbery. The presentation of the plate was honestly below the level I would expect from a restaurant like Daniela's, and the food was just piled in a soggy heap. The pasta is still excellent: delicate, melt-in-your-mouth, heavenly texture. But the gnocchi recipe has unfortunately changed significantly: the tomato sauce is missing the brightness of the basil pesto flavor that it used to have, and what used to be nicely formed medium gnocchi pillows are now big ugly globs of potato. So disappointing to see such a fantastic recipe reduced something so mediocre. The lasagna was excellent, but it was unfortunately difficult to find any ground beef in the tiny plate, and the cheese dominated. Still a wonderful comfort food. On a Saturday night, they didn't seem to have enough coverage, and the service was a little hectic. Ambience is still very charming. read more

This is my very first time coming to this place. They normally have outdoor dining as well but, it was closed in according to the weather. As soon as my niece and I walked in we were greeted by the friendly male water. We were seated right away. No wait at all. I admired the ambiance....grape vines hanging throughout the restaurant. We were immediately given water. We placed our order and then asked if we would like drinks. My niece a coke and myself prosecco. My niece ordered chicken Alfredo which wasn't on the menu but they were still able to create it. I ordered lasagna. The meals came with bread lightly buttered and a dusting of salt. Practically falling apart as I tried to eat it, it wasn't even twirl-able! The sauce was watery and depressingly pooled at the bottom of the bowl. But I'll give them some credit - shrimp was cooked well. We also ordered an eggplant and bruschetta appetizer. Eggplant was very firm, cold, and bland. Bruschetta was made with unripe tomatoes and was also ... bland. I should have taken pictures but I didn't think to in the moment because I didn't want to taint my camera roll. And it was only after we paid the egregious $70+ (2 meals and 1 appetizer) that the thought came to mind. We didn't even look at the desert menu because we didn't want to pay even more for underwhelming and overpriced "authentic" Italian tiramisu. Our appetizer which was the Involuntini di melanzana alla Mediterranean was delicious we enjoyed that and the wine was delicious. My dear friend Minje recommended this place to me so I obviously had to go! Located in Hampden, Daniela is known for their incredible Sardinian food (chef Daniela's hometown). She features traditional dishes + her family recipes, and if you love pasta as much as I do, you gotta go. My mom LOVES Italian food so I made sure to bring her. We both loved it btw, I def want to bring my bf here though! I think it would be such a great date night spot. Anywho, here's what we got: Pacheri ai Funghi Porcini ($26.99) - there's nothing better than fresh pasta, and this dish was an absolute banger. 11/10 recommend. The sauce was unreal! Scaloppine di Vitello al Limone ($23.99) - my mom wanted to try their veal so we got this dish! Double sauteed in butter sauce and Italian parsley-lemon sauce, and served with parsley potatoes. This restaurant features dishes and ingredients from Sardinia, Italy, and it's so rare to find a place that specializes in that area. My friend and I both ordered the Fregula con Cocciulas. Fregula is similar to large couscous, and it came in a delicious broth with clams. So yummy and a must have! For dessert, she ordered the tiramisu which was so decadent and plenty for two or three people! I hate to leave a bad review, but my experience at Daniela's was very underwhelming. To start off, there hardly seems to be a clear entrance to the building. When we walked in, the waiters kinda looked at us, but it took awhile for them to fully acknowledge us. The waiter set us in a back room by ourselves after we made reservations. He joked that no one would bother us back there, but it was away from all other patrons. It seemed like we had been placed in a spare room where they happened to be charging their laptop in the corner. Our waitress was uncomfortable to be around. She was very direct and seemed annoyed. We got our food in less than 10 minutes. She never really came to check on us during the meal. The process happened so quickly, that another waiter came in to ask us if we had even received our food. I would say the best thing about the meal was the free bread at the beginning. It was soft and almost melted in my mouth and it had a rich drizzle of olive oil. I find it hard to believe the bread was made in house because everything after was downhill. The three entrees that my group ordered all came off as very bland. The most flavorful thing was the olive oil. Aside from the lack of flavor, all the food felt as though it had went through a microwave instead of an oven. The heat was only present on the outside of the dishes. I got the branzino, one of my favorite mediterranean dishes, and it was so oily and flavorless. I didn't know you could do that fish wrong. Also, they were out of Aperol?! Seems hard to believe. I hate that we wasted time here. Flavors were almost nonexistent and service was equally bad. Prices are not worth it at all. Grano was closed today and I popped over to Daniela's. I pretty much never go there and I have to admit maybe they are good at other stuff but I only know what I experienced and I have never in my life been more disheartened by a sit down meal. Albeit I am a pasta lover so it is the food I'd be more upset about being cooked poorly, but I'm not the kind of person that leaves reviews bad reviews. It here it goes anyway and I'm curious other people's experience. I ordered the Spaghetti alla Chitarra in Salsa di Carne--the description trumpets "hand-made pasta with ground beef and pancetta in a red sauce made from cherry tomatoes imported from Italy." Which was 30$ by the way but seemed reasonable as described. What arrived looked like a sad school cafeteria special. No pancetta, over cooked limp noodles, drowned in sauce with barely any meat. It was terrible. And they charge 30$ for it. And I'm convinced it's at the caliber of pasta that you can order from takeout pizza place. It was such a sad thing to see because it's not like they messed something up it's like they fundamentally didn't try to make a good plate of pasta, you can't send that back (also something I have never done in my life) it was like they thought I never ate half decent pasta before and thought I'd just be like sure this is fine. So I brought it up and they wanted to comp me but it made me feel so weird. I was hungry from being in the sun all day so I ate it because it was technically food, I'll figured I could eat it like I got it from a pizza shop for 10$ (used to be less but inflation etc) and move on - but I didn't want them to think I was saying something just for the money so I insisted on paying and tipped 20%. So I guess all I'm saying is if y'all think something was way off I want to know about it. Asked for more bread but later found out it wasn't free and they charged us $3. There was no indication of that on the menu and I was not informed by the waitress that there would be a charge. The food itself was okay, I enjoyed the Gnocchi but my partner got the Malloreddus which was supposed to have meatballs but had almost no meat in there, plus it tasted like something you could make in 5 minutes at home. What a great spot! We got an order of the gnocci (a must!) it was light and pillowy in a pesto/marinara sauve mix. It was divine. We also got the culurgiones, which were ammaaaZzzinnng!!!! This place is an absolute gem. Exquisite, authentic Sardinian food with excellent service. I've come here a few times this year when the weather was warmer and eaten on the beautiful outdoor patio, which has been one of my favorite outdoor dining experiences - both during the day when you can enjoy the colorful flowers, and at night with their magical twinkling lights. It feels like a little slice of Europe tucked away into Baltimore. I ate inside before the pandemic started as well, which was also beautiful. They're also very accommodating with making modifications and substitutions to items on their menu. Our weekly takeout night led us to Daniela Pasta & Pastries one week for both pasta and pastries! I loved the flavor of the sauce on the gnocchi - it was much more flavorful than the ravioli sauce so it was perfect for me. My partner likes sauce a bit more standard so she loved the ravioli and red sauce. Both pastas were a hit! I also ordered the fruit tart which was wonderful!!
