Dr. McKay and his staff are wonderful! I had not been to the dentist for 18 months after a really bad experience. I was a little apprehensive about going to see another dentist and the recommendations they would have. From the moment I contacted Dr. McKay's office I was greeted with warmth and kindness. I was able to make my appointment via email which is very convenient in my busy lifestyle. Tiffany was really quick to get back to me, and I was able to get in very quickly. Dr. McKay's assistant was so warm and personable, just like he was. She took time to just talk with me to begin with. Likewise, Dr. McKay took time to actually sit down and talk with me before he even looked at my teeth. I felt his recommendations and course of treatment were appropriate and what was best for me, not just what would make him the most money. Lastly, the hygienist (I'm sorry I can't remember her name, I'm bad with names), was equally welcoming. She was quite gentle and the typical unpleasant scrapping wasn't that bad. Dan McKay is absolutely my favorite dentist yet. He is super nice and friendly and very informative. My favorite part is the office. Its on the top floor of a 9 story building with amazing views of Seattle. Its just a very calming environment to get your teeth cleaned in. Since I was a new patient they also did a free Zoom whitening for me. I've been wanting to whiten my teeth forever but since it's so expensive I haven't been able to. LOVE the free perk just for going to the dentist. And my insurance coverages it 100%. The hygienists are very nice as well. They remembered my name after just one visit. I have been going to Dr. McKay for nearly a decade and he and his staff are the best! Found him originally (via Yelp!) when I had a debilitating tooth ache and he opened his office on a Saturday morning to take a look. Turns out the ankylosed molar I had was completely rotten on the inside. He got it fully resolved in a matter of days and I have been going there ever since. Couple years later a crown from my previous dentist popped off. He replaced it using the current methods in a day or so. I really love the location and it's a beautiful office. Of course, this is once I could find it. I think I accidentally walked in to an illegal adoption agency and possibly drug ring. This is Pill Hill, so I just nodded and moved on when they told me that I was in the wrong building. Dr. McKay and his staff have great personalities- I know this may seem odd to say, but if I am going to be sitting in one place for hours with my mouth wide open and paying for it, well let's just say that I want the whole deal. And of course they were professional. Dr. McKay went over my medical history first, asking questions and then got to work doing a quick and clean job of re-cementing my bridge that popped out. I'm adding that he took the time to smooth out the edges on the bridge where I was eating something hard and it broke off. I found this place through an internet ad as well. So, one review said that his ad is bogus, my take on this is different. I think it's still my decision to get the details in order and still is my final decision whether or not I want to go through the process, and what is being offered to me. No one in his office made me feel uncomfortable or rushed into anything. In my case, I have shopped around to make this come true. It was so quick to get an appointment with Dr. McKay and was very thorough about what the process would look in action in addition to what the outcome will be. I am glad I'm able to start the process with no worries. I am now on my second tray and this is my first time to try Invisalign. So far so good. It's very easy to manage and less painful or no pain at all. I think this can work for me. Anyway, I feel a great smile is a great investment. I've worn braces before (old school way) but I lost my retainers. There was shifting that occured-story done. So, here I am again trying to maintain what I can naturally. The point is, I'd like to keep my smile and grow old gracefully. I believe it's a great investment and well money spent. Right? Thanks to Dr. McKay's wonderful work so far and he's so eloquent explaining every step . He's very thorough and quick, AND he's very gentle. I've been having Dr. McKay tend my grill for the last 2 years and have been completely happy with everything he's done. Even referred my dentist-phobic partner who has gone back three times for cleanings! His office is very comfortable with stunning views out of the exam room windows. Cynthia, the hygienist has a great touch and is gentle, friendly and remembers everything you talked about with her six months ago. That's impressive. The office is beautiful with new equipment and modern decor. There are no screaming kids running around and no Highlights magazines. Bonus that my cleanings are 100% covered by my insurance. Extra bonus, I got free whitening for life and they oftentimes have little mint-eucalyptus lip balms for you when you check out. That's great because honestly, when can you ever turn down a mini lip balm. Do you feel me? Last thing, if you refer your friends to Dr. McKay, he sends you a thank you gift card for Nordstrom! You may have seen the Internet ad Dr McKay has for "$1,999 Invisalign." And the ad ALWAYS says the offer expires that day, so you better book an appointment now. I fell for it. You shouldn't. My upper teeth have near-perfect alignment and my bottom arch became crooked after having braces many years ago... And I was quoted a "discounted" price of $5,000. I was shocked. And the dental assistant admitted that virtually no one would qualify for the advertised $1,999 price. AND the "expires today" price of $1,999 is on the Internet every time I look. So, nothing about that ad appears real - classic "bait and switch." So I wasted a morning to find all this out. I give 2 stars (in spite of the deplorable advertising practice) because this does appear to be a legitimate, well-equipped dental practice - but it's too bad it relies on such deceptive ad practices to bring people in. read more

Ridiculous! Asked office staff several times to check benefits prior to visit. Have called and written several times to rectify but get nothing but a bi monthly bill and no response. Dr McKay seems to be a decent guy but needs to pay rent on high floor suite. Go somewhere else! read more

I have a total fear of even hearing the word 'dentist' but I was in such pain that I tried to find a Dr. near me that could see me quickly. I called and emailed Dr. McKay's office and received a prompt response from Carrie the amazing and helpful and was in to see Dr. Mckay the next day. My imagination was going wild to what could be causing me so much pain and also the repercussions, will I lose a tooth? Well I need not worry, I grind my teeth at night and needed a night guard. Dr. McKay made me a tiny night guard that fits my upper 4 front teeth, not bulky at all. I did have to go in to have it 'shaped' because I was moving my mouth around it at night and I had some irritation but that is free of charge. Everyone there was so nice and didn't make me feel weird because I have a total fear of the dentist. It's on the top floor of Cabrini Tower with amazing views as well. read more

Dr. McKay and his team are incredible! I truly hate going to the dentist (but who really likes it?) however, Dr. McKay's team made my process quick and easy! I would highly recommend him and his staff to anyone. Everyone was super helpful in scheduling and adjusting to my schedule. I only wish they were open just a little earlier or a little later so I didn't have to take off work to get in, but their team is amazing enough for me to miss work :) I will be a patient for as long as I'm on Capital Hill. He and his staff are very personable, were very thorough for my cleaning and quick, yet relatively painless for my fillings. After years of the going to the dentist on a strictly off/on basis, I have finally found one I plan to stick with...Dr. McKay and his fabulous team! My sister and her husband recommended Dr. McKay to me...and I'll admit, I originally went because it had been too long and one of my teeth were hurting - and it was right up the street from my office! We got my tooth taken care of, I got a free whitening kit, and ended up working with Dr. McKay to get some Invisalign along the way. Three years later, I am still a happy camper - even got my husband to start going there, as well as my 8 year old daughter. We are well taken care of by everyone. I look forward to my cleanings with Cynthia - she is a hoot! And I've gotten several great book recommendations from her! These folks are the best - they will take good care of you. I just had a free consultation today for an orthodontic relapse (retainers have to be worn for life and I wish I had known this). The receptionist (Carrie) made a great effort to get me in for a next day appointment. All of the staff were extremely friendly and Dr. McKay answered all of my questions and did not make me feel rushed. He then explained the options for my situation and Carrie went over all of the financial information with me. Another thing that I really appreciated was that I did not feel pressured into anything, and this was very comforting to me. I too have been a patient of Dr. McKay's since he took over the practice. My first contact with him was calling him on a weekend with what turned out to be a badly infected molar; he immediately called in the prescriptions I needed and gave me the name of someone who could do a root canal. A couple of years ago I took a bad tumble and fell on my face, breaking a bunch of teeth and, as it turned out, my jaw. Dr. McKay came into his office on a Friday (they're closed) to take a look at me, and guided me through the months-long process of recovery. He explained every step and the reasons for taking it. I used to hate going to the dentist, but I now go every six months. The office is comfortable, the staff are great, and Dr. McKay is skilled and friendly. read more

I went in to get contouring and bonding done on my 4 front teeth. It seemed that the dentist and his assistants did not care about my comfort or whether or not I was in pain. The process of contouring includes burning off the gum tissue to expose more tooth. At a specific point in the procedure, I could actually feel the laser cutting in to my gums (in this case he may have not used enough of the numbing agent prior to the contouring process). When I tried to tell him it was painful, he responded with, "Does that hurt?" And after I nodded "yes" he just continued with the procedure. After everything was completed, I noticed I could feel a lot of texture on the surface on the tooth, I could even see the texture of where the bonding did not blend in well with my natural tooth color. The bonding was significantly darker than my actual tooth (almost a dark yellow). I also noticed that less than 24 hours after the procedure, some of the gum tissue grew back after the contouring process. I went in the next day so he could remove the gum tissue that had grown back. At first, he was trying to deny this request, almost as if he didn't believe me and even after I showed him, he was still skeptical. It wasn't until after he finally agreed to touched up the contouring, that he admitted that the skin had in fact grown back. He told me that "We do not usually do this," meaning they don't correct their mistakes, apparently. Of course I really didn't want to go back but I was paying $1100+ for this procedure and I wanted them to get it right. As for the texture on my teeth, he claimed it was normal and would diminish over time. A year later, and I could still feel the texture. I went to another dentist about 5 miles from this location, as I wanted to re-do the bonding. The new dentist noticed immediately the color difference. I've just had the bonding redone today at the new dentist and these results and the experience were exponentially better than the experience with Daniel McKay. There is zero texture on my teeth and the color is virtually indistinguishable from my actual tooth color. A cosmetic procedure like this requires a dentist that not only knows what they're doing, but also cares about how the final product looks. Based on my contouring and bonding experience from Daniel McKay, I advise that you look elsewhere if you're looking for a dentist to carry out this procedure for you. read more

Dr McKay is very knowledgeable and will talk to me about any procedures he thinks I need and doesn't pressure me to decide then and there. "Yes honey I'll set up the appointment" which of course would not happen. Dr. McKay is the dentist you are looking for and he and his staff truly put you at ease. Tiffany always welcomes you with a warm smile and both Natalie and Cynthia take the utmost care in providing careful and gentle cleanings and support. After chipping some teeth in rugby, Dr. McKay put in my filling and fit me for a free custom mouth guard. He is always very clear on what he is doing, talking you through the procedure and making sure to answer any questions. The peaceful environment, friendly staff and incredible view from the exam rooms had me so relaxed on my last visit that I fell asleep. He has all the latest equipment (digital x-rays which are much safer, sonic scaling is the default mode of cleaning) and is tapped into cutting-edge dental research. He was so interesting to talk to: teaching me new things about oral health and how it affects the rest of the body. He also has a very kind, knowledgeable, and patient staff. A huge bonus was the spectacular morning view of Mt. Rainier from all their offices at the top of the skyscraper. read more

I first saw Dr. McKay about three years ago. At the time, I had, to say the least, significant dental issues. Dr. McKay worked with me to restore my teeth, and did a really great job of it. Spoke with the receptionist to try and schedule an appt. She was certainly not interested in helping me. When I asked about prior records being transferred, she said I'd need to handle that. (When I work with patients, our office handles that for them, as is the case with the providers I see.) I moved to Seattle a year and a half ago and have been putting off finding a dentist because I have had so many bad experiences with other dentists in the past. My husband broke his crown though so he found a dentist for us. I'm so happy he found Dr. McKay. All of the staff at his office are fantastic. Everyone is so friendly, and they made me feel less uneasy about having to get my teeth worked on. I was really impressed with Dr. McKay. He took the time to make sure I understood what needed to be done and once he was actually working on my teeth he got it done quickly and with almost no discomfort. What really surprised me though was that he personally called me the next day to see how my mouth was feeling and to make sure he had answered all my questions.
