I lost a lot a few years ago due to chronic health issues one of which affected my nervous system for years. In the past being unaware, I would try to go to dance but brain issues prevented me from being fully present in it, and finally I gave up when it got worse. As I found out my issues, I began healing and decided to return to dancing as a way to continue that. And now, as my body has started to regained health I can finally enjoy it. Salsa salsa gave me a place to go after I lost a lot. It gave me friends and a community and such wonderful, kind instructors that unknowingly are helping me heal. Very grateful for it.

Ms Jasmine was nice and caring and gave bandages for her wound. Today we found out a small piece of wood still left in her front calf. This concerns us. I wrote an email to notice the manager about the dance floor being old and having some cracks and hope they can do something to fix the floor. I do not wish this happens to any kids again. My nieces perform here a couple times a year! The ones in charge are beautiful people, as you can…read moretell they don't only care for the venue itself, but for the community. They talk about how they try to give back to the community and they are always highlighting their wonderful artists and teachers. Outside of shows, I have seen a few of my niece's dance classes. The hallways and classrooms are always kept neat and organized, even when there's a huge crowd around. It was a day that wasn't even for family observation, but I was able to hang out and really enjoy the class. Skye, for one, is an amazing teacher. The confidence of the performers and the intricacy of the choreography is unmatched as far as I've seen. The one thing I would criticize is those steps, OOOOF, those steps. The shows are usually held on the top floor so my gosh, those are some steep steps! But there's a chair on the mid-landing for those who need a break. How thoughtful! But hey, architecture is architecture, so some steps can't be worth taking a star off for. There's lots of talent to be drawn out and seen at BAX. Make sure you drop by!

Every time I need to rent space, I write to Caroline first, I have even moved rehearsals around to make sure we can use the Eva Dean space. They are truly there to accommodate and help. Caroline makes herself available to you in any way she can and the space itself is open, flexible, quiet, functional, and a great size, the perfect size actually. It attracts good people and good programs and it is a testament to the efforts of the studio to offer a space and a staff with integrity. Cannot recommend it highly enough!

I attended a Friday night session of BollyX dance class for free as part of a Brooklyn Fit series…read more I'm a dancer at heart but mostly in the salsa genre where I can "shake what my mama gave me" without hesitation. Though I was new to the Bollywood style of dancing, I loved every minute of class! It was a non-stop, head-to-toe workout, that left you wanting more even if you were wiped out. The instructor was high energy and the playlist was so fun. We danced about 5-6 songs and were instructed to follow our teacher's steps. Warning to those who haven't been to a dance class, the steps aren't broken down into segments. It's more of a watch and get right into the steps all at once. The class ended with a 5 minute ab series in sync with the music and a cool down. Classes are typically $15 for a drop in and they have a full schedule of classes ranging from ballet to Africand dance. I'll definitely be back for more!
