Dancewave is conveniently located right off the Atlantic/Barclays train station and just one block away from the Barclays Stadium. I have not taken a dance class with this studio per se, but have taken classes here with an instructor who rents the space. The dance studio is small, but well kept with clean bathrooms, a clear entrance way and space to maneuver. The studio has nice wooden floors and large mirrors, always convenient for practicing dance and rehearsing a choreographed piece. I did take off one star because the space is quite small and when the room gets full it's difficult to "let loose" and branch out as a dancer. I found that it can feel cramped with upwards of 12 adults in the room. Nonetheless, this is NYC and space is hard to come by anywhere! All in all, a conveniently located, well maintained studio that is perfect for small dance classes and workshops. read more

Have been here for the Sunday yoga classes and adult classes. It's a super great deal for dance in New York. The yoga is very relaxing. The ballet class was pretty fast paced and do I dare say, a little snotty. Not the teacher, he seemed cool, but the crowd just seemed a little stuck up. They also have ZUMBA classes, which I have never taken and an assortment of dance classes. I highly recommend this place. I will definitely be back soon! read more

I discovered this place through Classpass. Hip Hop classes with Rolanda! I love, love, love this class. Rolanda super talented. Her classes are always fun and energetic. Unlike many schools she actually teaches hip hop, not that cardio pop stuff that is often advertised as "hip hop." She is able to adjust the class according to how well the class is picking up the moves. Anyone, I mean anyone can take this class! Its a judgement free zone. The space is clean. Receptionist is friendly. The prices are also perfect! The 182 4th Ave is way farther closer to Union Street subway stop.The space was a bit bigger, but I wasnt a fan. read more

I tried a class for NYC dance week and then brought a sweet and affordable package on a daily deal site for 6 more zumba classes. The zumba classes are taught by Suki? on Mon and Weds and they will be adding ga Sunday class around noon I believe. I enjoyed the classes - they were high intensity and the instructor introduces new choreography for 2 to 3 songs every week to keep things fresh. The drawbacks - small space. It can get really crowded, especially since they seem to do a lot of daily deal promotions. However, the space comfortably holds about 12 people. Most of the time when you enter the studio tons of people are waiting in the small waiting room because there's another class going on and it can get uncomfortably tight since there is minimal seating and everyone wants to get into the classroom first to stake out a good spot. Also, I recommended for two people to take classes at dance wave and they bought packages on my recommendation however they have no plan in place to award customers who bring new customers. #fail The good- Convenient location / close to subway (1 block to atlantic avenue station - across the street from barclays). I love dancewave because it makes me strong and confident in myself. The classes are what I look forward to every day after work and on the weekends. I love Kuni's Zumba class on Sundays and Mondays. Kuni is fun and vibrant. She makes you want to come every SINGLE class to see what awesome new choreography she has. She makes everyone feel good and treats you like your part of her family. Rolanda's hip hop class on Mondays and Wednesday's makes me feel like I'm out at a club with friends. She's so positive and wants you to put it all out there no matter your skill level. Autumn's barre class on Tuesdays tones your body to great music. She makes everyone push themselves to be better and stronger! I've been coming to dancewave for a few years now. The hip hop classes are fun and encouraging and the Barre class was just the right amount of challenging. My favorite class is Kuni's Zumba class! She's an incredible teacher, the dances she creates have choreography that keeps us on our toes. She mixes in new songs with enough frequency to keep us interested. Kuni's class is fun, challenging, and a great workout. Kuni has made a comfortable atmosphere where newbies feel just as welcome as us die hards! Kuni's Zumba classes are super high energy and is unlike any other. This isn't a typical Zumba class. You will not be two stepping for an hour. I took the Kukuwa class for the first time during dance week and absolutely loved it. I felt fierce and got a great workout out of it! The music and the instructor was inspiring and made it so much fun. I would have liked a little more direction on some of the moves but I was able to keep up for the majority of the time. A water fountain would be nice too but they do sell water for $1 and have tap water! I took it for free for dance week but now I'm thinking of taking more classes. They offer class cards with varying affordable prices which is lovely. I also liked that the cool down was still a dance in itself, not just straight up stretching. Overall, amazing class! read more

I purchased a Living Social Package and was excited to join Dancewave. However, I recently lost my home due to a fire and am still homeless. I called Dancewave (along with several other businesses I bought packages with) and asked if it was possible to get an extension since I had not yet started the package. All of the other businesses were very understanding and were happy to meet my needs EXCEPT for Dancewave. The woman just said "no, good luck with your life" and hung up on me. As you can imagine, this really really hurt, considering what I had just gone through. I wish I had an actual chance to try this place out, but due to what I feel is the heartless demeanor to their customer, I will never go. How unfortunate that I will never experience what these other people like so much about this place. read more

My now 12 yr old daughter has been taking dance classes at Dancewave for 2 yrs (jazz) and she just completed the Summer Intensive for the first time this summer. Dancewave has an amazing program, mainly because the great teachers create such inspiring work with the young dancers of all ranges of experience. Went to a friday evening swing class at the 182 space. So. much. fun. It wasnt crowded at all. But I dont know why more people dont take it since it was great. The instructor, Rae (Ray?), was not just a good dancer, but a really good TEACHER of dance, unlike some other instructors I've had at other studios. (I've walked out of other dance classes in frustration before.) She also makes everyone feel really comfortable and have fun while learning a LOT in an hour. Easy to sign up for classes online. Good prices. No fees or any other bullshit that other studios pull. Plus this organization is a non-profit so it made me want to support them. read more

It was NYC Dance Week and the perfect opportunity to audition dance studios. I signed up for the Zumba class, and I was not a fan. I am in no way a Zumba expert, nor will I ever claim to be one. My previous classes in other settings has always had a Latin foundation so imagine how lost I was when we did more hip hop then Latin. Despite the affordability of their classes, I doubt that I'll be back. The studio was small, it can maybe hold about 15 -20 people. It's located two blocks away from the Atlantic Avenue train station so accessibility isn't an issue. The instructor and regular students were nice, but I'll have to pass. read more

I wanted to like Dancewave so much. This is a review of adult classes at the 182 space, at 4th and DeGraw, not the studio closer to the Atlantic Terminal. The two stars are because of the facility itself. Even on cool days, the HVAC makes the room uncomfortably hot, despite A/C and fans running. The sound system was a boombox with an amplifier, which wouldn't matter if you could hear instruction over the music, but that was impossible, and turning the music down to hear the teacher would also have been impractical. The mirrors are not continuous, which is actually a big problem in a fast-paced class with subs. If you don't know the particular sequence, your view of the teacher is blocked in lots of parts of the room and it becomes tough to follow along. The cost is really reasonable and people seem nice, but it's kind of unpleasant as a place to dance. It's too bad! read more

Kuni who teaches Zumba there is amazing! I love her teaching style, personality and abilities. Fun, high energy, inviting and a great choreographer and dancer, I always feel both challenged and accomplished after leaving her addictive class. I've been taking Zumba classes for 10 years and I can confidently say that Kuni's Zumba class is, by far, the best!! I love her energy and style. She is a talented dancer and keeps class fun and exciting with her choreography. Convenient location for sure. Very close to Barclay center so train access is best because of limited parking. Gets pretty hot during class but that's part of the workout. Only downside is the one toilet that never ever flushes correctly - should be an easy fix but it hasn't happened in the past year or more of classes... read more

Dancewave is the best local dance instruction program in downtown Brooklyn. This is the second summer that my daughter has participated in their summer dance intensive workshop, a two-week program that's a great way for young people 10-18 to learn about a wide range of dance forms: ballet, hip-hop, modern, tap, flamenco, street jazz and others during one or two week sessions that culminate in a performance. It also keeps them in shape for the fall and spring classes during the school year. I highly recommend Dancewave for their great staff, instructor-choreographers and for company offerings that help young adults develop the high-level skills they want and need to pursue dance after high school. read more
