I take private Hustle lessons with Francis. He is a very professional dance teacher. He is a very dedicated teacher. I feel so much more prepared to go out dancing after taking lessons with him. I like that the schools are in Brooklyn and that there is a down home vibe to everything. I have gone to a lot of schools in NYC and find that this is as good as the New York schools as far as the technique being taught. read more

Yesterday (Saturday night), I went to a class at Dance Fever. The Park Slope studio is located on a side street in a somewhat sketchy part of Park Slope. It's right by the Gowanus Expressway and about a 10 minute walk from the Prospect Avenue subway station. The 8 PM class that I attended was free (the dance party after the class is $15). There were about a dozen people in the class. Unfortunately for me, the two hottest women in the class had boyfriends/husbands. During the class, the instructor went over the basics. The class was a little helpful, but it wasn't quite worth the trip to an obscure part of Brooklyn. If you live in the area, have nothing better to do, and want to go over some basic steps then I recommend this class. If you're looking for a meat market then look elsewhere. read more

For years I've enjoyed watching people rush to the dance floor as the sounds of salsa, bachata, and merengue filled the room. I have taken a few pay as you go classes and free lessons at clubs, but no matter how much I watched, or lessons taken, I never had the courage to get beyond the basic and side step of salsa - and even that was a challenge. However, this all changed a few months back as my wife and I decided to take salsa lessons at Dance Fever Studio. Before knowing anything about the studio, we visited the Saturday social event, held twice each month. A free one hour class is given at the start of each event - which could comprise of two Latin techniques taught in separate studios. On this visit beginners salsa was held in the larger studio. Noelia, one of two senior instructors gave the lesson. She explained and broke down each of the basic techniques clearer than I've ever been taught, to the point that I was able to connect the steps to the musical counts. After the class ended, the social began and my wife and I were welcomed by the instructors, students and visitors. Everyone was encouraged to dance, practice, learn a new technique without pressure. At the end of the night we knew Dance Fever would be the right school for us. For the past six months we've attended salsa classes on Tuesday's, taught by Francis or Noelia. Today, my wife and I are at the point that when the sounds of salsa, bachata, and merengue fills the room, we rush to the dance floor - and if I must say...look pretty good holding our own. The classes are of a good size in that you are able, and encouraged to ask questions. Thank you Francis and Noelia for your patiences, art of instructing, and building confidence. If you are still reading this review, I would think you are seriously considering learning one of the many Latin dances taught at Dance Fever. After attending the wedding of a good friend I was amazed at how well he danced with his bride since he was not a particularly good dancer. I asked him about his new found talent and he told me about wedding choreography lessons he took at Dance Fever Studios, I was so impressed by his moves and I always wanted to learn Latin and Ballroom dancing(big fan of Dancing With the Stars)that I thought I would check them out. Well I was very happy I did. The owner Francis is really passionate about his business and my instructor really put my two left feet at ease. After trying it out I signed up for the program and now I can't wait to show my new moves at a Bar Mitzvah I have coming up. I just started taking Bachata lessons at Dance Fever Studios Avenue J location with my friends and I have to say I had the most amazing time of my life. This studio is great there are Friendly people all around and the teachers are great. They know how to break things down so that everyone gets it. I've always wanted to learn how to dance so the first time I went with my parents I was sort of shy but after about 10-15 minutes of meeting new people and mingling, I started seeing how awesome it was. That night I met some really great people and from that day forward I always wanted to do it more and more. Now I can't wait to go back and invite my friends as well. read more

I must say I was excited to finally find a program that trains ballroom dancers. I just moved to this NYC and was searching and spoke to a neighbor of mines about my search. She ended up telling me about DanceFever Studios Teacher Training program and gave me the telephone number telling me to ask for Francis. Immediately, I called and trying to find out some information. When I called June 1st around 8pm, I was told that I should call during the day because he was in the middle of class. So today I called at 3:43PM and asked to speak to Francis. I asked about the Teacher training program and he replied "well, did I speak to you already?" "What did I tell you?!" I explained to him he told me nothing and that he suggested that I call during the day and I just would like to know more information on how I can apply or how it works. He told me that the training was free but I would have to teach classes there free in exchange. He continued to explain that I would have to become a student first and after 3-4 mo if I progress and am serious then I can be a a part of the teacher training program. So I ask him where exactly is this studio located (where abouts in BK). Mind you I do not know the subway system and I JUST moved to this area. He then in a mocking tone asked me, "You don't know where we are located?!" ..."and you claim that you are serious!" "You are not serious!" I was shocked and was going to explain to him that I just moved here but I then stated "you know what, I am no longer interested bc of your attitude and negative energy. Thank you." If a "teacher" can yell and attempt to reprimand an interested customer, then I am not interested. It also speaks volumes of unprofessional-ism and the character of this owner. Wow! I am glad I did not continue with this guy. Don't bother unless you want to be disrespected! read more

Not bad for the money. $40 for (4) one hour sessions each week. The class was predominantly older students, 40-50's age range. Level 2 is very easy here, but solo shine practice is good to continue to learn to feel the rhythm of salsa on 1. Partnerwork is very simple as well. We don't learn alot of new stuff here as just getting the basics figured out of one or two new moves for some partners takes up most of our time. I probably wont come back next month, but it was a good experience and friendly atmosphere. read more

Wouldn't go back. I registered before the start of July for 4 dance classes a week. After registering the guy told me that I'll start July 11. I asked him 3 times to be sure he understood if they are beginner classes and if it is the first session. He confirmed it all 3 times. Ok, so I go to my first Salsa class......guess what??? It's their second secession! Ok whatever... I go the next day to the Hustle class I paid for....... once again 2nd secession!!!! Besides that, the room is TINY and the classes ARE PACKED!!!!! I stepped on one guys toe and one lady accidently hit my cheek with her left hand. One positive thing though, the staff is kind. read more

We've been taking ballroom classes and also private lessons for couple months and definitely love it! Yes, the studio is small, and sometimes crowded. However, for the price that we are paying (average $9 per lesson if you pay for the entire cycle in advance), we shouldn't compare it to the lofts/studios in Manhattan. I've never taken their salsa classes so I can't comment on that, but the ballroom classes are decent. We switch partners couple times during a session, and normally we only learn one or two new steps each class. The pace is a little slow but dancing is more about practice to perfection. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you are a beginner. read more

This school is excellent and it's great for any level of dancer. The instructor/owner, Francis, made me feel at ease when learning how to dance (which can be very frustrating since I have no rhythm). I have been dancing at the dance fever studios on and off for two years now. I am confident in basic to intermediate hustle and salsa. I have also learned basic bachata, rumba, and swing at the studio. The staff is friendly and you don't need a partner to dance, just show up and you will be partnered alternately with different partners during the class. It is always a fun experience and you need not be a real good dancer as you will learn to be one! The avenue J studio is conveniently located and the Park Slope studio is large for extra dance space and parties. I highly recommend the studio if you want to learn/enjoy ballroom dancing at very reasonabl/affordable prices on most budgets! read more
