While there is certainly nothing wrong with going with a place like Gymboree or MyGym, there was a personal element to this experience that made it that much more special.

Writing a review for the 1.5 hour free virtual intro class with Laurel. Laurel has been nothing but…read morefriendly, and affable, creating a safe space for participants to explore their sensuality and get lost in the experience. First, we heard about the start of S Factor, the mission, and the available classes. Then we had a 40 minute warm up, which consisted of stretching and variations of yoga. Good to stretch all those dormant muscles. Have to agree with other Yelp reviewers about the pace being too slow, but I imagine for older participants, the tempo was just right. Since many participants don't have a pole at home and this was an intro class, for the remaining 20ish minutes we did moves that built off our warm-up. All were sensual, slow, and playful. Laurel was great at encouraging us and allowing us not to feel self-conscious repeating seductive moves that are typical to those you would do during a striptease. At home, I felt unmotivated to be rolling around on a floor, repeating moves that are more suitable for practicing with a pole. I would be bummed if I had to pay such hefty price tag for the class with a pace that is more appropriate for older women. The $70 per class price tag is not for broke MS students like myself, so I wouldn't have had the means to try the class if not for a free, digital intro in the times of covid-19.

I had heard about this movement from one of my friends at UCLA and she highly recommended it as being one of the best and appealing workouts she's ever done. When I moved to NYC, I needed something to jump start my exercise routine to curb weight gain and decided pole dancing might be just the thing. I was a little worried about it though since I did have an ACL repair in high school but I was assured that my knee would be fine with the movements. They were right! I signed up for an intro class last October and I've been indulging in my Erotic Creature ever since! I look forward to my 2 hour class every single week and that, my friends, is something you need in order to work out. It has to appeal to you and you must truly want to go otherwise you'll drop the routine and just sit home and do nothing. Doing S Factor also got me into signing up for a gym so now I am working out at least 4 times a week... which is what I needed in my new post-college life. You can also sign up for smaller, shorter classes if you want more workouts on the side. As you take more levels or specialty classes, you are rewarded points that you can then use to redeem for other classes. That's a great little reward for someone like me who has been taking the classes for a long period of time. Pole dancing has certainly changed my body and made me stronger and more powerful. You should see some of the things I can do now; I can defy gravity, haha! People often write off pole dancing as a sexual, stripper only type of act but really, strippers can not do what my teachers can do. They are true athletes that compare to the athletic abilities of Cirque du Soleil. They are such beautiful and strong women. Pole dancing is NOT about dancing for a man, or even a woman. It's about dancing for yourself. It gives you such confidence in your own sexy self and the woman-only environment is very warm and friendly. I've made some wonderful friends here and I look forward to another year as an S woman. My S Factor's New Year's resolution is to be able to do the splits and meet the lovely Sheila Kelley. I love S Factor! P.S.: S Factor is NOT cheap but if you have a financial situation, you can apply for scholarships or even partake in a work study to make it more than affordable. These classes offer an awesome total-body workout that have really helped to add tone and definition! After only a few classes I could tell my upper body strength had vastly improved, something I often struggle with. Plus the pole dance classes are so much fun and always have great jams :) The trampoline aerobics class is a serious sweat session. If you're looking for a great mix of cardio and strength training, this is your class. Also a good option if you have hip or knee issues as the trampoline helps negate the impact.

I first attended with my friends for a ladies' night and decided to continue. Throughout the years I have attended a few other studios in NJ and decided to stick with Femme Body. I've attended her other classes but in the last 3 months, I've been consistent with Pole Fitness and Pilates and Yoga classes. I have never written a review but I felt I needed for this. Pole fitness is like anything else in life, it does not happen overnight. I want to mention I am 35 years old with no type of flexibility. Attending these classes have given me hope on crossing things out my bucket list I never thought I could do, like a headstand. I'm not there yet but thanks to my Pilates and Yoga class I am one step closer after my third try. I am one of those students that always feel that I am not capable of doing the steps or the swings. Carmen always pushes me to my max because she understands how insecure I can feel. If she didn't push me, I'd probably be exactly where it started. I have no discipline with the gym, but with pole fitness, I never have to debate if I want to go or not. I love the fact each girl has her own pole. I've never felt alone here. If I'm stuck Carmen or any of the other instructors always give me individual attention. All the girls help each other, it does not matter if one is a beginner or advanced. This is one of the biggest reasons why I chose Femme Body.

They have cultivated creativity, discipline, and skill in traditional ballet and modern dance. This past year she was accepted into the LaGuardia High School dance program! Through the years she's been able to participate and place in YAGP and has had opportunities to audition for NYC shows. The Winter Nutcracker and Summer performances include young students, teens and ASB Company dancers, in theater settings, and are truly magical. Summer intensives have included everything from jazz to kpop to hip hop to light gymnastics to vocal coaching. We are so happy that we the decision to trust ASB with our daughter's training so many years ago!

She had a fantastic time getting to know the dancers and performed in their year-end recital. My daughter participated in YAGP in March and Sonia spent so much time both rehearsing and making her beautiful costumes. The school is a true community. The dancers and their families are very welcoming. Past students have come to visit and they speak so highly of Sonia; both her teaching and her true passion for dance. Sonia introduces other dance genres (besides ballet) such as contemporary, and hip hop. She even gets the students to sing! I highly recommend this dance school.

It opened with The Cookout. Let's just say....It was a cookout that I would have left early....before the ribs were done and the potato salad came out. The dance came off tentative and not strongly executed. The movements seemed effortless and not very challenging. With songs like Bra and Movin by Brass Construction....I expected some powerhouse stand-out performances and felt disappointed. At first I thought it was just me but when the dance ended, my best friend said...."that looked more like a rehearsal". The costumes did not do it for me and I think this should have involved more dancers in vinettes telling different stories you would see at at cookout...."The drunk Uncle" The dancing Auntie that turns up......young folk crazy dances all interpreted through modern jazz and ballet. Even the sexy male lead dancers ...(and did I say SEXY) could not save this lackluster dance. This was clearly not DTH's lane. Like when Ailey did "Home" paying Homage to the Paradise Garage days paired with the aids crisis....I felt that all through my body...it connected and certainly resonated with everyone. The other three DTH pieces were brilliantly executed and beautiful to watch. This was truly their lane. All of the Principle dances were absolutely amazing!!!! Kouadio Davis' presences is captivating as well as Derek Brockington. Elias Re has the most beautiful long arms making his extensions memorable. Wanted to see more of this dancer. My fiancee and I took our wedding first dance lessons with Shimkiri at the 26th St Manhattan…read morelocation. Besides being an excellent dancer, Shimkiri is also a very patient teacher - an excellent trait given I have two left feet! My fiancee and I enjoyed our lessons a lot, and our first dance was a success. Towards the end of our ten-part lesson schedule, Shimkiri was injured and could not teach, but her husband filled in for her and the lesson with him was just as good. I'd strongly recommend wedding dance lessons with Shimkiri.
