The studio was clean, elegant, and pleasant to be in. It was not too loud and there was plenty of space to learn. My partner and I did a five class package here! Our instructor was Divieta, and we loved working with her! She was kind and patient and a great teacher. Neither of us had any previous dance experience, but we were able to learn some basic moves in three different styles in a few lessons. The lessons were always fun and enjoyable! I have heard that it can get a bit crowded at certain times, but we did most lessons on Friday evenings and it wasn't crowded at all. We signed up for a 10 pack of lessons in order to get comfortable for our first dance at our wedding. We did not want our dance to look choreographed at all which is something we mentioned multiple times, however, the dancing they taught us was extremely rigid and choreographed. We expressed our concern over specific dance moves many times, but it seemed our point was not being understood. They have multiple people on the floor at the same time so you are constantly bumping into others and instructors are fighting for control of the music. We dreaded going to these classes every week to the point that we stopped going with 2 classes left and paid for. I will mention that everyone at the studio was very nice. read more

We could not have asked for a better teacher than Anthony Soto. My husband and I took lessons for our first dance and our experience was so beyond our expectations. Anthony is kind, an excellent teacher, and guided us through the whole experience without ever letting it feel overwhelming. Anthony took time to get to know us as a couple and understand our skill level before creating the original choreography for our first dance song. He put so much thought into the choreography to reflect our personalities and lined up certain moves with the lyrics in beautiful ways (e.g., including dips to the lyrics "may we never come down" and resting my head on my husband's shoulder to "be a pillow for you"). We were blown away by the effort he put into it. Marie Perez, the front desk manager, is also incredibly warm, helpful, and supportive. She'd help us during our lessons by being the female stand in to show us the choreography and she cheered us on throughout our whole journey! You can tell Anthony and Marie love what they do. We so looked forward to each lesson and were genuinely sad when we were through with our 10-class package (we plan on bringing friends and coming back though!) It was a great motivation because we wanted to make them proud, and by the end they had us feeling comfortable and confident going into our wedding day. It was an impulse decision for us to learn a dance for our wedding first dance: neither of us had any dancing experience, after all. However, Fred Astaire Midtown was fantastic! We had Anthony as our primary teacher with Divieta coming on later, and they were both incredible. We found ourselves really looking forward to coming in for our lessons, because it was guaranteed to always be a good time. Anthony was always upbeat and friendly, and he put together an amazing choreographed dance that blew our guests away! (Our wedding planner was also floored haha) Near the end Anthony also taught us some additional dance steps that we could use in general for other songs. After learning the steps midway through, Anthony brought in Divieta to help us really fine tune the dance to make it look great. Divieta did an amazing job in pointing out and tweaking various details of our movement, and was patient, friendly, and great at explaining things: which is no small feat considering how I have no idea how to move my body. My husband and I went to Fred Astaire for the wedding dance classes because we didn't know how to dance with the song we picked. The instructor Divieta fixed all the problems we had!!! She was patient and amazing. We signed up for a 10 classes packages one month before the wedding. Divieta created simple elegant and fun dance moves for us. She even suggested that we could ask the band for a slower speed version of the song so that we could dance better. Great great great suggestion! OMG they are the best!! My husband and I hired Anthony at Fred Astaire Studios on E. 37th to help us with our first dance for our wedding. We had 10 sessions with Anthony. He was terrific - professional, personable and such a good teacher and dancer. Anthony encouraged us to practice and we were able to come to the studio anytime to dance on our own. The studio at 37th Street is lovely; it's a corner spot on the second floor and is very spacious with a ton of light. And lots of mirrors, too - of course! We were so rusty at first, but after many sessions we found our groove and practicing was really fun. In the end we felt confident about our dance. And it went great! In two months this studio has helped me lose 20 lbs and has elevated my life to a stratosphere I have never known. Dancing has lit me up inside in a way nothing else ever has. If the tiniest part of you wants to ballroom dance, you have to come to Fred Astaire Midtown. What you don't know, is the teachers here are absolute World-Class. (seriously look them up. you will drool) I have waited two months to do my review because at first I thought it was too good to be true. The experience started from the beautiful and amazing Mandi who answered the phone to taking my first lessons with Levani. His energy and personality make the lessons a total blast. We laugh so much while at the same time he is so encouraging and always tells me to always think of myself as the best dancer! :) He is so inspiring and such a great teacher. I know I have not met a better dancer in real life. It is humbling to have this kind of instruction from the elite of the dance world. Not only are the other instructors winning competitions on the national level but you also get additional coaching from the visiting Champion coaches. You will be treated like gold here. These beautiful souls have become family to me. Tim makes you feel like Hollywood Royalty (seriously the most adorable and kind person ever) and Mae and Kristian (also national champions) and the most down to earth couple you will meet. I absolutely adore them. I am working on the showcase and have also worked with Jessa who always advances me each time I work with her. She is patient, explains things in a way I understand quickly and does not get impatient with my learning process. Our new teacher Anthony is amazing as well. Everyone here wants you to succeed no matter what your goals. The love and support is real. After being here and getting to know the other students, all my skepticism was put to rest as they confirmed it was not too good to be true. This studio is magical right now. It has the feel of all the right people together at just the right time creating a vibe that may never be recaptured again. I feel beyond blessed to be a part of this incredible group of people. My wife and I decided we wanted to make our first dance something special and perform a choreographed arrangement. We researched and contacted a few studios, and ultimately decided Fred Estaire in NYC Midtown would be best. We were so happy we met with them. We chose Michael Buble's version of "Unforgettable" which we couldn't find anywhere on the internet from a first dance standpoint, but trusted they'd make it work for us. We were surprised they hadn't had any experience with the song either. Our instructor Olga was incredibly patient and knowledgable, and over the course of 10 lessons put together an absolutely amazing first dance for us. We left the studio not only confident about our technique and memorization, but about our appearance and delivery. Everything was broken down very easily and when it came time for the big day it blew our guests (and ourselves) away! We executed the dance just as we practiced, even encorporating a lift at the crescendo of the song. All of our guests asked us for videos (which we had arranged a few people to take from different angles) so they could watch it again. Was talked into formal pre-wedding dance lessons by the wife-to-be; overall, a lofty task given my pathologic lack of rhythm (in return, she had to agree to run a NYRR 5k). Was fortunate to be paired with Katya, who was both kind and supportive as we (I) bumbled through the introductory (and intermediate) steps in choreographing and rehearsing our two-minute wedding routine. Services included remixing a slow Adele tune to speed it up for dance purposes. Ultimately, the outlay paid off, as the first dance went off without a hitch. While the featured wedding packages included 10 and 15-lesson plans, we opted for 5 instead - not enough time pre-wedding, and it seemed like overkill given our realistic goals.
