I haven't actually stayed here, but I spent so much time in my colleague's hotel room during her stay last week that I feel as if I stayed here... And I like this new modern looking hotel! The people who work here are super friendly. We were big fans of the concierge who didn't even blink when we asked him if he knew of any strip clubs that served lunch. The rooms are very spacious and I especially loved the hardwood floors and rain shower surrounded by glass doors on all sides (there is a curtain to shield yourself from peeping toms). Business travelers will also be thrilled to know the wifi is fast and free...and this hotel just happens to be located in a very convenient downtown location. If you get hungry Ajasteak is right downstairs and there's plenty of other good eats (quartino is always a winner) within a block of the hotel. My colleague found this room on quickbook.com for just over $200, which I thought was quite the deal for a quality hotel during summer in Chicago. She seemed quite happy with her 3 nights in the hotel as well, her only complaint being that the walls were super thin so you can hear everything in the neighboring hotel rooms. I probably won't ever stay here since I live just minutes away, but I'll be recommending it to out of town visitors and may visit the inviting spa. read more

I totally feel my colleagues' pain about the thin walls. Lucky for me, my experience wasn't too bad. And here's why. Ask for a corner room. When I made my reservations, I asked for my exact room I had during my last stay. I was on the 20-somethingth floor with great views and off to the corner--far from the elevator. Unfortch, they did me a solid during my last stay and gave me that room at our corporate rate (it's usually more for a corner room). I didn't have that option this time ... until I worked my charm, and the reservation specialist over the phone went ahead and gave me that corner room for the same rate. I love you Dana Hotel & Spa. Nothing much changed from my last stay: it's still a challenge to get out of those marshmellow-ey, sleep-like-a-baby beds. The shower is heaven; bath products are spa-like ... Only change I noticed was the complimentary breakfast. It used to be laid out on the bar buffet-style, but now you have to go to the restaurant for a sit-down meal. You can still grab and go, but when you're in a hurry, it takes a bit longer. My only complaint is the loud AC. It rattles around when it shuts on and off ... and I do wish the rooms had a fans. When the air is on auto and blows for however long, the room is a nice crisp cold and lying under the covers in bliss. But as soon as it auto-powers off for a bit, the room gets HOT. A fan would keep that cool air circulating for the time being. Just a thought. Other than that, service is five stars; they have some of the friendliest doormen ever. read more

Awesome location! Great to just leave the building and walk around the city. Only a couple blocks from Michigan Ave. Nice rooms, spacious, modern. An Apple compatible speaker and iPad with dock come in the room. A nice touch! Our view was of State Street. The shower is huge and has a bench to rest! Also, the service was great. Always able to make adjustments and accommodations, which is more than I would expect at a hotel of this price point. Just a side note, the doormen were also wonderful. Always friendly, conversive, helpful with directions, and holding the door. The front desk work flow could use a little improvement. The employees were great, but there is not enough room for guests the assemble a line, so everyone ends up crowding together awkwardly. Got very backed up at check out time. Nice rooftop bar... We went at 2pm on a Saturday and walked right in, though when we left around 4 it was getting more crowded. The couches are comfortable. Yummy drinks! Would recommend as a unqiue, non- cookie cutter place to stay. One negative but not a deal breaker.... Our rooms were by the elevator, and until 2am we heard music from the rooftop bar. I'm not sure if it's because we were on the 18th floor, or if it can be heard throughout. I can sleep through anything so it wasn't a problem, but if you're a light sleeper, maybe bring some earplugs on Friday & Saturday nights. Spa specific: we were checking out on a Sunday, but decided Sunday morning that we wanted a massage. Called at 930 and got two 11am appointments, which was awesome. The spa was clean and spacious. I get massages every three weeks, have been for years, and this was by far the best massage I've ever had. It's so funny that you find these gems in unexpected places. Carolina was the therapist, cannot recommend her enough! 50 minutes for $120 of deep tissue. I would come back here just for the spa. read more

This is a great hotel. One of the nicest I've ever stayed at. Well, let's just say it's a bit better than the Candlewood Suites in Columbia, Missouri. Staff were professional, polite, friendly and accommodating. Great location. Beautiful room. Rain shower. Swanky cocktail bar and classy restaurant in the dual-level lobby area. Cool artwork all around. Good music playing whenever I was walking in or out. 7-11 across the street. Whole Foods around the corner. Yuppies walking all around. I liked the industrial chic design of the actual hotel. I mean, the ceilings were poured concrete. Just plain neat. Qualms? The Yuppie dude's butt I saw in an apartment across the street at 1am. Very nice downtown hotel. I would stay again, but I also have some things to say. 1). Rooms: the building or the rooms are all new. Nicely decorated and feels like a modern loft. Each floor is concrete covered with wood flooring. The ceilings are exposed concrete. Everything is new and clean. Very comfortable. 2). Service: starting with the guys working the valet parking and bell desk are so polite and ready to help with anything they can. We felt like we knew them by the time we left. The front desk staff was ok, and anyone else that worked there was nice when you saw them. 3). Food & Beverage: so there is apparently a restaurant on the lobby floor that is currently under renovation. No idea what the restaurant is. Our room included breakfast each morning which was served up on the rooftop. Really nice rooftop area, but the breakfast was horrible. They told us breakfast was from 7AM to 11AM. We showed but at 9AM and half the items were gone. There was no coffee too. They had some muffins and that's it. I would have preferred if they didn't offer breakfast at all because we left and went across the street to eat. That was really the biggest let-down. Otherwise our stay was nice. read more

Very small spa area to get a manicure and or pedicure. It can only hold two clients at a time... I came with my mother who had a walker and it wasn't any place where she could put it as I felt it was in the way but managed to find somewhere to store it. The Dana gives you real downtown hotel feel. Everyone there goes out of their way to make sure your experience is perfect. Our room was very nice with a magnificent view of State street and downtown, and ceiling to floor windows really enhanced the experience. The room was not huge, but had all the essentials. Our bathroom had a large window in it as well that allowed you to see right in from the rest of the room, but it did have a curtain that could be drawn. We thought that was a bit strange because all though I think it was meant for the shower the toilet was also in full view. Overall a very nice place to stay when your downtown and looking for the full Chicago feel. read more

Not sure how my experience differs so much from others but figured it's worth it to share to provide a well-rounded decision to others in whether they want to stay at the Dana. From the outside and just walking in; it's a svelte hotel and a great experience. Quickly checked in and the staff were nice enough when I arrived at 9:30pm at night. Unfortunately that was about where the niceties stopped. I got to my floor and when I walked out it had a weird odor- and I stepped on a bunch of cotton balls (trash) that was in the hallway- which was still there the next morning when I left, meaning they didn't have anybody who picked it up in the meantime. When I got to my room, it looked great at a glance. Super modern, great amenities (iPad, balcony that was awesome, cool bathroom/shower concept). But then I took another CLOSER look and discovered the repairs that were needed (I was in room 1615). And stepping outside all I could smell was the smell of McDonald's fries which was pretty nasty since I was looking forward to the crisp winter air. The room was DIRTY with a capital D. Floors were not swept, there were stains and marks on furniture and the coup de grâce was nicely trimmed hairs on the bathroom sink that were not mine. Pretty horrible. I had been up since 3am and in business meetings all day so I crashed heavily into the bed (after a quick shower in which I discovered the water leaks everywhere into the bathroom floor, there's mold on the ceiling and the bathroom shower head was broken so it sprayed willy nilly). In the morning, I went to the gym, found out most of the machines were broken and a treadmill was slanted/tiled to one side and the locker room smelled like urine. I checked out and tried to explain to the front desk staff only to hear the two of them arguing at a decibel enough to wake up people on the top floor and just said, "forget it" to myself and will be checking off the Dana Hotel as a place to stay. I liked the hotel but the first and most important thing I must say is the rooms don't have curtains!!! They have blinds and they have gaps between them so regardless of them being light block out blinds, you will be awoken by shards of light as soon as the sun comes up. If you get up at the crack of dawn, good for you. I however tend to milk every hour out of a hotel visit and am a nocturnal party creature. To me it is a deal breaker. I would not stay here again because of that and it is a shame because I loved everything about the hotel apart from that. There's a douchey bar on the top floor that plays the r'n'b jams. I could hear Khia - My Neck, My Back from my room, without the slightest hint of irony. If you're on a high floor you will hear it until they close at 2 or whenever it is. I did like the Bowers and Wilkins iPhone dock in the room and the iPad for room service was a nice touch, although the actual menu for in-room dining was very lacklustre and didn't tempt me at all. Get some damn curtains and I'll be back. read more

I loved this place! Wish I could give 4.5 stars here. Here for work. So nice to stay in a hotel like this vs staying in one of the big chains. This hotel was just super comfortable but still high end. It's swanky if not hipster. Walking in you have some JBL's pumping out some techno beats. Not loud, just there. Also smelled nice. Rustic wood floors in the elevator, and even in the room. I had room 716 which was a corner. Super cool because 1/2 of the room was floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city. While that's mostly good, it did give me a workout as I had to close 8 or so roller shades every night (and then again in morning). B&W iPod speaker (didn't use, but I'm a big fan of B&W), and an iPad in each room along with bottles of wine for the choosing (at a cost, of course). Also has a voyeur shower.....glass on both sides so you person in bedroom can see you shower (if you want of course). Shower also had a rainfall shower head. The king bed was awesome. We also ate breakfast each morning, trying something new each day. I hope my company lets me stay here again. read more

It was my fiance and I first time to Chicago. Dana Hotel and Spa is located on the "North End" surrounded by shopping and restaurants. I had exceptional service by all the staff we encountered. We were the first to check in for the day (8am) and a room was not ready, which we expected, however the hotel had a shower facility upstairs that we could use to freshen up which was much appreciated. We got a room around noon. Our room was clean, great floor to ceiling windows, and the SHOWER!!!! I LOVE IT! We went to the roof top bar both nights that we stayed at Dana. The drinks are very interesting (a little bit over priced) but the views are great! Got a table both times with minimum wait time. We dined downstairs for breakfast and that was also really good. read more

I really want to love you, Dana, I do... but you disappoint me a tad bit every stay. This time, it was the phone beeping because of a low battery. I did tear it out and the next day it was put back together yet still beeping. It was the TV that didn't turn on, the drain that got clogged, and the wireless that didn't function so well... Kudos to the friendly doormen and concierge, the comfy bed, the chocolate dipped fortune cookies, and the complimentary breakfast in the mornings. I noticed Mariah's pluses and minuses cover pretty much everything I observed as well, so I cannot really sum it up better than that. Dana - you're a solid four stars. I'm sure I'll be back, although maybe next time you will annoy me less?! read more

I absolutely love this hotel. It is very nice and clean. The modern interior and decors that are used in their front lobby are very nice. Not to mention that the location of this hotel is just wonderful. Everything is pretty much close by. It's several blocks away from The Magnificent Mile, and there are food places all around. It's actually not too far from Millennium Park either. The front desk or concierge, Eric, was fantastic and gave excellent customer service! He was super friendly and was able to accommodate everything that I had ask for. Anyways, I got a corner suite near the top floor and I simply fell in love with the room. What a nice room with a nice fantastic view! Half the walls were just windows so you can pretty much see everything that goes on. The bathroom in my room was quite nice although it was a bit weird. The shower place had a glass wall where you can look in the bedroom and vice versa. There are curtains so you can shower with some privacy, but the weird thing is that the curtain is on the outside. So anyone in the room has control over your shower curtains. That's definitely different and definitely not an ideal room for just anyone, but the room is still awesome. Their infinity pool is absolutely amazing! It is a very well designed pool area. I enjoyed swimming in the pool and relaxing in their jacuzzi. They have nice seating areas around the pool area as well. Another good thing about this hotel is that there is a really nice spa there: Spa at Danas. Overall, I definitely recommend Dana Hotel & Spa to anyone and I will definitey be returning when I pay Chicago another visit! read more

I come to Chgo about 1x/month on business, and stayed here for the first time just this week. Net-net, here's what you'll get: ROOM: 3 stars overall. Bathrooms (5 stars) are awesome, with terrific lighting, big mirrors, huge rain shower w/ lots of water pressure and nice amenities. Beds (2 stars) are WAY too softy-plushie, no support, bad pillows and overall not nearly as comfy as the Westin. If you have a bad back or just o/w prefer a firmer mattress, do not stay here, you'll be miserable. Lighting in room (2 stars) is extremely dim, and you have to turn on/off like 5 lamps individually to get maybe 2 candles' worth of lumens. Windows (5 stars) are beautiful though, completely floor-to-ceiling so you have a great view of the city. SERVICE: 5 stars. Valets remembered my name every time I entered/exited the hotel and addressed me as such, welcoming back and forth by name. They were prompt and courteous and overall some of the best I've experienced in any travels, anywhere. RESTAURANT: 5 stars (I only had bfasts there). Solid menu selection that includes organic foods (yay!), fast servce, courteous and professional by all, from hostess to busser to server. They understand the business traveler. FITNESS CENTER: 4 stars. I'm waffling b/w 3-4 but I'll give 'em 4. See my photos of this place, esp since the hotel website itself doesn't showcase it. Enough stuff to get a workout in, two overly fancy, overly fussy machines, but it's new and clean and has big windows and iPod plug ins. Couple quick tips: Ask for a higher floor even-numbered room and you'll get a nice view looking East (towards the lake). Whole Foods is 1/2 block around the corner on Huron, so you'll have a terrific healthy food option within spitting distance! read more

Creepy bathroom window has been covered by everyone else, so I will get on to the other stuff: Loud, loud and more loud. I HAVE to remember to quit booking hotels that have trendy clubs associated with them (in this case, The Vertigo Sky Lounge). I love boutique hotels but hate having to deal with the loud loud loud people that overrun any hotel associated with a club like this or the Library Bar in PUBLIC. Basically it's a club, that happens to have a hotel attached to it, so being an actual hotel guest is secondary to everything. So, lessons learned. DO NOT let them assign you a room across from the elevator. In addition to the loud music from the 26th floor lounge that was pulsing through our room on the 23rd floor all night, you get loud and drunk guests trying to circumvent the elevator system to get to the club (you have to take the one downstairs and outside) and then getting lost on your floor, yelling about it right in front of your door. The stay overall was fine other than that. The room was a decent size, but pretty much everything in the room is showing its age. There are dents and dings on the lamps and furniture. Nothing is quite "clean" looking--including the headboard of the bed in the room we stayed in an, well, it all just needs a good scrub and a few updates. Location is great, Caesar the doorman was incredibly nice and helpful, the windows are neat, the bathroom's layout, as everyone has mentioned, is supremely creepy. But the shower itself is great. Fantastic wine selection on the room bar if that's your thing. read more

Very loud nightclub on the rooftop terrace that draws lots of extra people and a very young median age for hotel guests. Bring earplugs if you intend to sleep. With the word spa right in name, I was under the impression that the atmosphere would be tranquil. Be forewarned that this is not the case. My bf and I stayed here over St. Patricks Day weekend. We stayed on the 21st floor in a corner room. Stunning views of the city. A beautiful balcony. Floor to celing windows. Rain shower. Mini bar and fridge. Keurig. A bed you just melt into . ...amazing. Even though the club was 5 or 6 floors above us, we didn't hear anything. We did have some annoying girls across the hall singing justin beiber for what seemed an eternity but that wasn't that bad, it was early. Most of the staff was incredible. The women at the front desk (I think that one was named Becky) were sweet and kind and helpful. The men who unloaded our car and brought our luggage up were fabulous. The man who brought up our breakfast, awesome. Our waiter Ray at the restaurant downstairs - just the best ever. I have 2 people that I have a gripe with. The dude who "guards" the elevators after hours. He has a HUGE attitude and I was absolutely sick of him come the end of the weekend. No one has the right to raise their voice to me when I'm just headed to my room. Also, the bouncer/elevator guard for Vertigo. Same deal. I am a guest at this hotel, you need to respect me. Both of these men are (hide your eyes kids) assholes. Dana Hotel has so many wonderful staff members, it's unfortunate that these two men stick in my mind. My favorite things about this hotel are the restaurant downstairs (the food is yummy and Ray is an incredible waiter), the city views, the nice amenities (there is also a spa and gym that I didn't have a chance to check out), the proximity to EVERYTHING in the city, and the cute guys that help with the luggage ;) If you are looking for a clean, classy, swanky, upper-class (minus the chicks at the club....), boutique hotel, I would stay here. I stayed in the hotel over the long weekend and Id say it's a solid 3, not bad but not great. If I were rating valet alone I'd give them 5 stars... So nice! They remembered our name and car the next day. After that the hotel is kind of run of the mill. Views from the room are great but the room could definitely use some updating! Most things looked old and a bit dingy. It was clean but I wouldn't say it was incredibly impressive. I also got a massage at the spa, again good service but I wouldn't say it was great. The locker rooms were outdated, no locks on the bathroom doors. Some ladies completely flooded the entire locker room while I was in there and it was all just kind of messy. Could've been because of those ladies though and not the hotel. My massage was good but again, nothing i would rave about. Most likely will not be back or recommend to a friend. read more

Can I give 10 stars?! Seriously I love this hotel. I've stayed at all the fancy chains and I would choose this hotel every day of the week. From the moment I arrived I felt like royalty. The person standing outside took me to the elevator and gave me the lay of the land. The lobby is not just as you walk in but when you get up there, they provide comfy seats where you can relax while checking in. They asked if I wanted an upper or lower floor and I asked for one with the best view. I got a sweet corner unit on almost the top floor. The room was small but laid out so cleverly. There's a sliding barn-type door that serves as the door to the bathroom when slid that way, and the door the closet when slid to the other. The bed faces the balcony and the views were stunning. There's a well-stocked bar area that doubles as a desk. Amazing selection of wines that are very reasonably priced. The water is only $3 as opposed to the $10+ most places charge for the convenience of drinking their water. There's also snacks for purchase and a free keurig. Bed was extremely comfy and I wasn't skeeved out using the bedspread at the end as a blanket (as I am in most hotels). There's convenient outlets galore and even bottled body wash and slippers. Love the industrial look and sleek decor. Definitely recommend this hotel! read more

My fiancee and I stayed here for 4 nights for an amazing Birthday getaway! From start to finish The Dana definitely made our stay amazing! As we pulled up out front the bellhop boys eagerly greeted us and took our luggage into the hotel. We arrived around 10:00am because of our early flight so the bellhop said he would tag our suitcases and when our room was ready he would have them delivered. Check in is actually one level up, you can either take the cool glass elevator directly there or walk up the short window encased beautiful stairwell up. The concierge pleasantly greeted us and advised our rooms were not ready and told us she'd alert us as soon they were. We inquired about upgrading our room and she graciously offered us a room on the quieter side of the building at a discounted rate. Room 2114 - Serene King The room is gorgeous, long & spacious with dark wood floors and a magnificent floor to ceiling window with views on the city and street below. The bed was very plush and comfy and the bathroom included a rainfall shower head and bowl sink. FYI the shower's back wall is glass and is exposed to the bedroom but covered by a curtain. So if your in the shower, someone in the bedroom could pull the curtain aside and take a peep at you. It's not an issue if your a couple but if you have privacy issues you want to keep this in mind. You also get free wifi in the hotel and complimentary use the in room keurig coffee machine. The mini bar is well stocked with affordable items. Our room was cleaned everyday and kept spotless with fresh towels replaced everyday and we had no issue with noise level at night. Dining Room service is sooo fast! Our meal came up in about 15 minutes hot and fresh! We had breakfast and dinner at Aja (on site restaurant) and both meals were exquisite! Vertigo (on site club) was amazing! They have a heated patio with fire pit and great drinks! Service Everyone from the doorman, to concierge, housekeepers, waiters, and managers were sooo kind and helpful! The concierge manager helped my fiancee arrange for flowers to be delivered to my room on my birthday, the concierge told us to have a free bottle of wine from the mini bar on the house to celebrate our birthday, the doormen were great on giving us tips on how to navigate the city and where are good places to check out. Everyone we encountered greeted us with smiles and graciousness. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to others! The Dana made our Birthdays very memorable and enjoyable! This hotel is in the perfect location walking distance to many great restaurants and even the Magnificent Mile! My husband and I stayed at the Dana for a long weekend recently. We actually didn't pick the Dana, but instead got relocated to this hotel from the Acme which was overbooked. Now, the good part is that the hotel was actually for the most part pretty nice, however there are some big negatives (that many others have highlighted). The Good: * Excellent location, easily walkable to many touristy spots (House of Blues, Navy Pier, Hancock, etc...) & the train * Very nice room for the price (although we got the Acme price + we paid $15 to upgrade to the Serene King) * Fantastic views of the city * Quick and reasonable room service (room service is always too much, but this didn't seem bad $$ wise). * Free wi-fi! * Keurig coffee maker with lots of coffee and tea options * Honor bar with lots of snack and drink options that again was reasonably priced. * Our maid service was good and we didn't have to make a special request to get it (as others on some sites have suggested). The weird: * The elevator situation. As other stated, if you stay at the hotel, you need to go up 1 flight of stairs or use a 1 flight elevator to get to the "lobby" on the 1st floor. You then have to walk to the second bank of elevators, use your key, and then select your floor. This seems like poor planning and just idiocy. It was annoying. * The glass wall separating the bedroom and the bathroom. While I think this is an interesting feature and it didn't really matter to me that it was open, I can see how it would be a problem for people. You basically have zero privacy in the bathroom unless you pull the very thin tiny curtain on the OUTSIDE of the bathroom...weird. * The bathroom door is actually a sliding barn type door that doubles as the closet door (it slides one way or another). It didn't really close totally and it is just another odd item in the room. * This has nothing to do with the hotel, but it was so hysterical I have to mention it. On Saturday night about 1A we noticed across the street in the apartment building a half naked women in day glo body paint dancing in her window (complete with black light). She went on forever, I guess it was for the benefit of the clubbers 2 floors above. It was weird, but more amusing than anything! We loved her big hula hoop finale! The Bad: * Noise. I mean really major noise. Now, many have mentioned the club noise if you are up high. However, I found that it was not that big a deal, the traffic noise if you have a room facing the front is INSANE. We were on the 24th floor and heard motors rev, the doorman/valet's whistle (for taxis), yelling, sirens, and on and on. Their windows must be paper thin! So all in all it was an a-ok stay, however the noise made it pretty hard to sleep and since we wanted a hotel with that was a break from the hustle and bustle it was a bit of let down for that reason. However, It was really nice if you have ear plugs and can get over the weird parts. read more

We pulled up in front of the Dana, one month since our last visit, the Doorman greeted us by name, commented on the fact i was driving a different car this time & welcomed us back!! We didn't book a corner room this time but the Dana upgraded us to a room with a Balcony. Everything i loved before i still love but I'm upgrading the Dana to 5 stars. I will always stay here in Chicago & its is a foodie dream you are within walking distance of almost every great dining establishment in Chicago & the added bonus is some lovely wine bars within stumbling distance. Very posh accommodations for any out-of-towner! My room actually reminded me of a studio apartment (a VERY NICE studio apartment), rather than a hotel room. The hardwood floors and desk made it feel like you were coming home at the end of the day...and I like that feeling. The floor-to-ceiling windows were cool (awesome views) but it got to be a pain by day two, as you have to pull down the shades if you want to take a shower, change your clothes, or do anything that you don't want the businessmen in the building next door to see :) OR if you are an exhibitionist, this is the place for you! And I'm still confused as to why the shower is glass on both sides, especially the side closest to the bed. Does someone who's sleeping NEED to see you washing your hair? The privacy curtain takes care of that problem, but I'm wondering why it was built that way originally. Based on the last two hotels that I've stayed in for work, The Curtis and its talking elevators ("I seee youuu") and now the sexy shower at the Dana... what kind of job did I just sign up for? I kid, I kid... I would absolutely stay at the Dana again, as its location is within walking distance of a lot of great shopping (Hello Michigan Ave!) and cute brunch spots. Dana hotel was a great stay! We booked the corner King room and it was worth the extra fee. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows give you a great view of the city and the location of the hotel is close enough to just about anything. The king bed was pure heaven and I was out within minutes. As for the noise factor, luckily I can sleep through just about anything but being in a big city do expect to hear emergency vehicles a few times a night. Our stay included VIP access to their rooftop lounge which was a nice incentive. For the native Floridians that we are, it was a little blistery even with the heat lamps, but we managed to suck it up for a little and enjoy the trendy spot. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We arrived early before check-in and since our room was ready they let us in with no problem. They also held our luggage for us the day we departed while we wandered the city before our flight. The Dana Hotel is somewhere I would not hesitate to book a stay at when/if we make our way back to Chicago. read more

Nice Boutique Hotel - Great Location, Amenities, & Price!!! The Dana Hotel & Spa was an attractively contemporary boutique hotel located near the North Side. The hotel itself is a gem. The lobby is located on a 2nd level which separates the ground entry from the reservation desk. Check-in was a breeze and the hotel staff were very accommodating and personable - especially Hassan. The only downside was that one of the three elevators was down which made for a bit of a wait especially on a busy Saturday evening. The rooms, however, made up for it. We entered on nice wood tile and a bright, view of the loft apartments and the luxe shops and eateries below us. The view from the 18th floor was much appreciated. No real need to drive because of its location traveling via Uber was super easy ($7-$15). Room was clean and the bed was comfy. We also appreciated the amenities (wall mounted wine selections, the stocked fridge, the peek-a-boo glass rain shower, high-fidelity sound system.) The ambiance definitely created a vibe. This was a short stay so we didn't have the opportunity to check out the rooftop bar or the sauna but the Dana will certainly be one of my "go-to" hotels when I return to Chicago. read more

I've stayed here a few times now and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite places to stay when I'm in the area. Steam room, sauna, roof top bar, two bars with food on the lower levels. Anything you can think of they have it. The views from the rooms never disappoint. The shower in the room is absolutely amazing. The beds are great, pillows are very stiff!!!!!! But that's minor when the hotel is so great. The bell hops are amazing, so eager to tell you where and what to eat and see while staying here. There is a huge TV in the room, a huge IPhone radio home, full bar, and snacks, yoga mat and robes! Who doesn't love a plush robe?! Very relaxing hotel to come and stay at. Love this place and can't wait for my next stay. read more

More than I expected. I've been to quite a few hotels in Chicago and this is my first one without carpets in the room. I love it because I hate carpets. Room features start with a great view, a cool looking bare-ish ceiling where you can see the cement, nice lights, a large rain shower, an amazing Bower&Wilkins Zeppelin iPod/iPhone sound dock and much more. People at the front desk were very friendly. Wi-Fi is available everywhere and free of charge with good reception and speed. Haven't checked the rooftop bar yet. Price wise it's also quite cool considering how close it is to Magnificent Mile. read more

I'm not one to really rave about a hotel because let's face it you are either paying way too much or you totally get what you pay for. BUT...Dana Hotel and Spa is special!!! The location is awesome, the service is amazing and the rooms make you feel like you are in a condo. My room had two.....not one but two balconies!!! The showers are insane...walk-ins that can fit a family of 5 very comfortably!!! If you are a wine drinker which I am there is a nice selection of white in the wine cooler and a great selection of reds on the wall. If you want to party they have a roof top lounge and if you need to relax they have a beautiful spa. I would also like to comment on the customer service. It is top notch! You can absolutely tell that Dana is striving for quality and not quantity. One of the front desk agents, Rio Zavala, is so professional and friendly. Always greets you with a smile and wants to do all that he can to ensure you have a wonderful stay. I have stayed a couple of times now and will continue to stay here!! Centrally located in the city, bike share service nearby the hotel, and walking distance to the waterfront. Dana Hotel & Spa were great for a number of reasons, first being the spacious-ness of the room for being in a city, the awesome bathroom amenities, and the lovely outdoor patio! I dislike staying in hotels, specifically high rises due to the stale air, but Dana Hotel allowed us to open the balcony in the morning and before bed to let some fresh airflow. The hotel also provided spa water at all times, which was a great refreshment/touch in the morning after a run or on my way back from dinner. Would definitely stay again! read more

I recently got a gift certificate to Dana Hotel and Spa and decided to use it on a Swedish massage. I originally wanted to do the 90 minute massage but after speaking to the spa they recommend that I do the 60 minute one since it's been a while since I got any sort of massage. When I arrived they showed me the changing rooms, bathrooms and the quiet sitting area where you can get water and relax before and after the massage. Everything was beautiful. After few moments in the siting area my massage therapist came out and introduced herself and took me for the massage. I have to say I am very glad I only got the 60 minute massage. I don't think I could go through another 30 minutes. The massage was really good the massage therapist found ALL of my muscle knots. I felt so rejuvenated after. I would highly recommend the spa to anyone. It's a great gift for anyone. The spa has some amazing staff. read more

Review for event space: we hosted a 10-person all-day meeting at the Dana's boardroom this weekend and while the space and food were good, the service was quite weak. We never received the tea and coffee refill mid-morning and there was not a soul around to remind. When we finally asked about it when the person charged with our event, he said he'll brew some in a bit, which he never did.. read more

The hotel is beautiful, the room is absolutely gorgeous and spacious. The spa is wonderful and left us feeling rejuvenated. I gave this a 2 because of the service at Portsmith. We had an older brunette women give us the worst service. We ordered 3 different items which she waited 20 minutes to come back and tell us they were out of. We ordered other items instead, then the table next to us ordered the same thing as we originally wanted and they received it. I asked for the manager and she apologized and said she could get us the items we originally wanted. At this point we just asked for the check. She explained she felt bad and comped our meal. The only thing I can think of is we looked young and that we wouldn't tip. Moral of the story of your a young married couple, definitely stay at the dana and make reservations at a better place to have a romantic night out. read more

This hotel has a modern and trendy interior. The location is very strategic as it's only couple of blocks from Michigan Ave, where you can do all your shopping. My check in experience wasn't great. I had called as soon as I landed to see if I can get an early check in for 9am-ish. The person who picked up the phone reassured me that they had plenty of rooms available and I can just come to the receptionist. However, that was not the case when I got there. All the rooms were still being cleaned. So I had to check in my luggage at the concierge and can only check into my room in the afternoon. The receptionist was very polite, helpful and apologized for the wrong information. So he made up for the bad experience. I stayed in a room with a balcony, which was pretty cool as you can see the Chicago skyline. I bet it's even more beautiful during the summer! The other thing that I wasn't happy about was the location of their power plugs on the wall. On one side of the bed, you can't even use the plug because it was too close to the headboard. I noticed that the headboard was badly scratched in this area as other people had tried to jam their charger without much success. On the other side of the bed, the power plug was behind the bedside table, so you have to do some maneuver to get it to work. So annoying! I think most people these days sleep close to their phones. So I consider these things pretty basic. The four star is mostly due to the ambiance and interior of the hotel and its strategic location. read more

Where to begin. After reading some reviews we actually wanted to stay on the highest floor (under the club) so that we can be loud or at least listen to some music on the ipod dock the hotel PROVIDES. So one minute into a song we get a knock on the door about it being loud. It was 9pm. So we decide to go party upstairs and realized we have to go down to the lobby to take a separate elevator to go to the club. Thats fine but at least tell us instead of us trying to figure out if the elevator is broken or instead of trying the stairs etc it was so stupid for a while. Club was very cool though and staff excellent. We tried the tequila from Entourage. Not my fave but shots were free. Also we went to the restaurant Argent and had an awesome chat with the waitress who gave us great tourist advice. They took the term cake in crab cake a little too literally, I felt I was eating a birthday cake. The sushi was very good. We were happy the hotel/resto/club carry sugar free redbull and they even have discrete redbull art written on the elevator doors. The room was very nice. Sadly we didnt get any of the two upgrades we had requested a month earlier but the room was ok. The rainfall shower is AMAZING. Probably my fave part. Keep in mind the only ice machine is on the 5th floor. A maid told us they have free ice delivery but to request it in the morning. We didnt know this until check out. What a downer. All in all, staff were great, valet guys are awesome and helpful. The rest is nowhere near deserving any luxurious term. We will stick to our usual Conrad or Hard Rock Hotel. read more
