We discovered a softball-sized bald-faced hornet nest in our groaning-with-fruit-apple tree on the first day of Memorial Day weekend. After one email, we got a call from Dan who said he was in our neighborhood and could be by in five minutes to look. He confirmed who they were and that they can be aggressive in defense of their nest. With a proper suit, a vacuum, and water he emptied the nest, caught the stragglers, and removed the nest from our tree. I was weeding in my garden near my front door with my dog tied up next to me chatting with my friend on speakerphone. Sounds peaceful huh? "Hey! What's that buzzing? Ahhh What's that stinging on my leg?!" Yellow jackets coming out of the ground! Trying not to wave my arms like a little girl at her first dance recital while attempting to unhook my dog (she thinks it's a game which is decidedly not helpful) with my phone still on the grass spouting my friend answering my question "Who started WW1" I did get us in the house. There I am, looking out my front window, watching cranky wasps flying around and listening to my friend outside telling me about Archduke Ferdinand Now what? Yellow Jackets never seemed like a big deal to me until I had a calf the size of Texas. Some sort of allergic reaction. They held my front yard hostage for 3 days. No gardening. Keeping the dog in. Then I called Dan. What a lovely man. He is kind and answered all of my questions. He stayed until he felt confident that, other than a few out foraging, he'd gotten all. He advised that I stay away from the area for a couple of days until the stragglers got confused and left. He didn't use poison but because yellow jackets can't be relocated he used soap that kills quickly and is as humane as possible. He gave me back my yard! We found Dan on Yelp, and scheduled to have him come check things out, because we had been hearing weird scratching noises and seeing what we thought were bees flying in & out of an area near the roof on a corner of our house. He responded to our email within 12 hours and came out a few days later. We were chilled to find out that what we had was a yellowjacket nest in our attic crawlspace; they had been scraping away at the drywall, and were probably a week or so away from breaking through into the house! Removed a yellow jacket nest on one day notice for me last year (I was having an outdoor party and the nest was right above the food and drink area) and gave me tips for keeping them out of the area. Just had him come out again because something stinging set up a nest between my wooden siding and interior drywall. He took a heat picture from inside and we could see the nest! BUT! Due to time of year/where they are/the fact that they are not chewing our wall (we would be able to hear them), Dan gave us the advice to do nothing. We had a very aggressive hive of what appears to be yellow jackets in the dead part of a tree trunk in our front yard, the bees were attacking people for merely walking by. Dan is flat out the best. He is a no BS business man that gives it to you straight, so straight in fact he basically talked me out of using his service. I had an usual scenario where a yellow jacket hive decided to nest inside the casement surrounding my front porch stairs. It was going to be a real hassle to get them out of there having to pull apart the stair to get to them. Dan only uses physical removal, not chemical warfare and let me know the pros and cons of each approach as well as recommendations as to who to call if we wanted to go that route. Ultimately though, he told me just to wait it out as yellow jackets die off in sept/oct and do not re-inhabit their hives once abandoned. He also gave us great tips on how to avoid stirring them up until then. I sent an email to Dan because some wasps had built a nest in my back porch area very close to the entrance to my house. His team responded very promptly and outline the cost and the procedure for removing the nest. Dan showed up in a timely manner on the day of our appointment and was quickly able to determine where the nest was. Because of the nest location he had to put a hole in the drywall inside my house. He then used a vacuum to take care of the hundred wasps that had set up camp in my wall. I am really relieved that he was able to help me out as in a couple weeks they could have chewed through the wall and into my house which would have been a nightmare. Dan does not use any chemicals which is why I called him. This makes for a more labor-intensive procedure for him but in my opinion it's worth it. I would definitely recommend him. I can't recommend Dan the Bee Man highly enough. I accidentally uncovered a bumble bee nest while raking in my backyard and while I didn't want to leave them there, I also didn't want them harmed. We first used Dan two summers ago, after moving into our townhouse and realizing we had a pretty serious nest infestation of paper wasps. Dan is the (bee) Man! We had a large hornet's nest fall from a tree by our front porch on a Saturday night. We arrived home to find it unexpectedly and were swarmed as we entered the house. I called several exterminators fully expecting not to hear from anyone until Monday. We have a dwarf corkscrew pussy willow tree that was swarming with buzzing creatures for a few weeks. We assumed there was a hive/nest and emailed Dan to come out and advise us about our problem. What caught my attention was his response. He wrote an in-depth description of his latest experiences with pussy willow trees and circling bees, wasps and hornets. He included suggestions that there might not be a nest, but simply circling insects feeding on something in the tree.
