We asked Paratex to send out for one perimeter spray. We told them upfront we did not want a monthly service. We also communicated that to the guy that provided our perimeter spray. Even after they were told we were finished, had paid the first bill, and were finished, they sent some guy out to spray a second time, and we were not home to decline service. Now they are billing us and we are not liable for the bill. We will not pay. Don't hire this company. They refuse to take NO for an answer read more

Tackling a porch re-model myself, I discovered little bore holes in the subfloor and joists during demo. Scary! I called up Paratex on a Friday afternoon, and after a quick chat, they said that while they couldn't come out until next week, from the photos I sent, it probably wasn't termites. That helped me sleep through the weekend. When Tom came out on Tuesday, he and his apprentice looked at all the wood samples I'd cut out and at the joists, told me it was powder-post beetles and that the infestation was old so I wouldn't need any treatments (though I should make sure to cut out all the wood with bore holes just in case--thankfully, I was almost done with that work anyway). And then the bill: $0. Really. I wasn't charged a penny because they didn't need to treat anything. Wow! I would've happily paid a couple hundred for the knowledge and advice. read more

We found a dampwood termite in our house, which we freaked out about since we know very little about termites other than that they can ruin structures. I was referred to Paratex by another pest control company and they put my mind at ease. They were very informative about the ecology of dampwood termites and helped me to understand that they very seldom pose a threat to homeowners. Based on this interaction with them (in which I was charged $0 for their help), I would definitely consider going to them for pest control needs in the future. read more

Let me begin the review by saying that the people I interacted with were incredibly responsive and friendly. I enjoyed my experience. The reason I am giving 2 stars is because of the way the business is structured. I felt like they didn't really want to get at the root of my problem (ants), but instead have me pay for them to repeatedly come out to spray chemicals around my house. I had an ant problem, and they came out the same day and sprayed around the house, plus put bait inside the house that the ants would eat and bring back to the nest to kill the source. That sounded great. But I wondered where are the ants coming from? How can I keep them from coming back? Their solution is to pay to have Paratex come out and re-spray every few months. Ok but where are they coming from? No way to know, just have to keep spraying every few months. Hmm. I did my research and found nests sprinkled throughout the yard, deposited poison granules in each nest, and haven't had any trouble with the ants since. And my work costs a LOT less than what they are charging. I get that they are trying to make a living but it is just wasteful and doesn't make any sense. Maybe it is more useful for some other type of pest like rats or something? I don't know. Don't use them for ants. read more

I was the unlucky one to have a bed bug situation in my apartment and cLled up paratex for an inspection. Mei was very helpful on the phone and asked Ray (the general manager) to come for an inspection. He came the very same day, took a look and gave me a quote then and there. It was a bit pricey for me so he got it down with some adjustments from my side. He explained me how the process worked and worked patiently with my apartment complex to explain them what he would do and need from their end. I was in constant touch with him till the day of the treatment and he answered all my questions happily. The guys showed up promptly on the day of service and took ALL my stuff for the vikane gas treatment. Ray came once they were towards the end, treated my apartment and informed me about it. The next day, the guys came again and put my furniture back exactly the way it was. They were super professional and careful and thankfully none of my stuff broke. Its been a month+ and none of the bugs came back. My stuff did come back with dead bugs which I just brushed off. I am happy as jt gave me peace of mind as they assured me 100% bugs will die and I didnot have to do batches of laundry. All other treatments needed 3-4 rounds, were much pricey and that would mean 3-4 rounds of laundry. read more

Paratex sent Jason out to my home. He was thorough and kind. He worked efficiently to cover the interior and exterior of my home and my barn. He told me exactly what he was doing and what he suggests for success in treating the issues we were facing. He arrived early to the appointment which worked out well since I accidentally wrote him in my calendar an hour earlier. C: *drops phone and faints* and......SCENE. Seriously. They are that good. I've used them a few times for a variety of bug problems and they are very reasonable compared to other places. I called Terminix and they wanted to charge me THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS to come out 1 time. For that price they better be personally flying each ant they kill off to the big ol' ant hill in the sky. I have been a landlord in greater Seattle area for over 30 years. I personally manage over 25 different rentals/sites and despite being an experienced and responsible landlord, pest issues are a somewhat regular nuisance to deal with. Early in my career, I tried all the commonly known pest companies with mixed results. Starting in roughly 2001, I happened upon Ray with Paratex and have continued to use him for 20 + years. He has consistently been responsive, knowledgeable and most importantly....has solved a wide variety of different pest problems for me. I have used him many times for: scent or sugar ants, mice and rats, squirrels, termites, powder-post beetles, a fly infestation, and one goofy one....worms repeatedly crawling-up to a front door! In addition to inspecting our place, he was very educational, giving a breakdown of the Seattle region and what to expect as far as pests go in our area and pointers on simple every day things we can do as preventative measures. I contacted Paratex to follow up with some items noted on our inspection report regarding rodents. Mei and Ray were very helpful, with Ray coming out to the property and answering lots of questions (not just about rodents!) and putting me at ease. Ray also gave us advice (not pushing a sale, actual advice!) on a few items in our back yard that we should be mindful of. We ended up not needing any service, and Ray was up front about that - no push to sell something we didn't need. Will definitely be contacting Paratex again if anything does come up! read more

Had a pretty terrible yellow jacket problem in the siding of our house. They've come out 4 times to spray. Understand it was a tricky problem and it's still not 100% delt with as some bee's have managed to actually come into the house but the fact they've come to help us 4 times for the initial $195 dollars shows how honorable they are. I have used Paratex off and on over the last 4 years. Rats one year and ants the next. This year it was a Raccoon. She tore an air vent off the soffit to make her next there. All night long all we hear is that Racoon banging around. I tried pepper spray and boarding up where metal air vent had been. Call Josh at Paratex and he was out the next day. He managed to chase him out with ammonia. Once out covered the vent hole with a wire mesh. It has been 2 weeks now and the Racoon hasn't been back. I have to agree with Alice C. They are all very friendly and accommodating but I've had them come out on a monthly schedule for years -- I hate ants that much and never wanted to see a single one inside. Yet, inevitably like clockwork each spring, the ants return. Lots of them. Since Paratex sprays year round outside of the house supposedly to create a parameter, I don't understand why once or twice a year I have a big ant problem. Granted when Paratex does come and spray indoors to treat the biannual ant-return, they do get rid of the ants for an entire season. read more

We had a mouse problem. Mouse had chewed through dishwasher hose and we wanted the mouse problem fixed before we could repair the dishwasher. Paratex's price was fair ($175) and they arrived on time a few days later. But all they did was slide a few sticky traps under the dishwasher with peanut butter on it. I thought they would do a more thorough examination of the area, set more traps, etc. Oh well...if it just takes two traps, then that's fine. The also promised to evaluate the situation and recommend ways to avoid mouse problems in the future. They took a cursory look around the kitchen and suggested we put the dog food in a covered container. "That's where they're getting food from." Okay. They walked around the house looking for entrances to block to avoid future mouse problems. Couldn't find anything. Looked under the porch and pointed out there were cobwebs; a good sign - no mouse running back and forth under the porch. They were there a total of 20 mins then left and said "we'll talk Monday". That was the last I heard of them. It turns out, it wasn't a mouse; it was a rat. It ate the peanut butter on the trap, then wandered out into the living room a few days later. The tenants were home, were traumatized by the rat, caught it themselves and killed it with a sledgehammer. A few days later, I had the dishwasher pulled out to replace a hose and found a gap under the kitchen cabinets. This must be how the rat got into the house. I sealed it up with a heavy stone. So, thanks for nothing Paratex. You set the wrong types of traps (they should have checked the droppings behind the dishwasher; mouse and rat droppings look different), didn't bother pulling the dishwasher out to look for entrances, and didn't even call me back to see how the situation was looking. read more

Paratex has been great. Like many areas in Seattle, our neighborhood has ant challenges. We've tried all kinds of things. Terro traps are the best DIY solution we've found. But what's worked best over time - and often the only thing that's worked - is calling Paratex. Both the spraying and the baiting has been essential. Jason, in particular, is fantastic. He's great to work with, he carefully assesses the situation and doesn't over-treat, he's really careful and understanding about pets, vegetable gardens, etc. He's given us a lot of useful advice and helped us get ants out of our house several times. (I can't really give six stars since they did not actually fumigate) I called Paratex after becoming frustrated with the office staff at Dominion, who kept explaining to me every minute detail of WHY my appointment went missing or was cancelled...Plus they would have made me clear my apartment to put down test strips, then wait an indefinite period of time for evidence. . . Within two hours, I met the professional field inspector, Raffy at my place, and he used a flashlight, his eyeballs, experience and LOGIC to figure out what I was dealing with. He explained very well what he was looking for, what he didn't find, and where to go from here. He determined that extermination, in my particular case, is NOT the way to go; that I am dealing with some kind of spiders or mites that I have become allergic to, and what I need to do is to clear out everything and have my carpets cleaned...and to stop feeding birds and squirrels from my fire escape. He saved me (and my neighbors and their pets) from exposure to unnecessary toxic chemicals, and unlike Dominion, DID NOT CHARGE me for the inspection. Top notch. Thank you Raffy! read more

So, I found a dubious looking insect in my bathroom on the third floor and managed to convince myself it was a termite. Sadly, the only evidence I managed of its existence was two blurry photos. I called up Paratex and was able to schedule a visit a few days later. The lady on the other end of the phone was nice, courteous, and professional. She did a great job of setting the tone for the rest of my experience with this company. On the day of the appointment, Ray showed up right on time. He patiently listened to me explain the situation and looked over my terrible photography. While he wasn't able to determine what the insect was from the blurry photo, he was able to reassure me that it probably wasn't a termite based on a number of other factors, independent of the photo. He also gave me some good advice about a few spiders we had seen over the last couple of months. After he had done a short walk about the property looking for other common concerns, I fully expected to pay him for his time and advice. He kindly refused payment, and just asked that if I happen to find the bug again, to try and capture it for him to take a look at next time. Definitely won me over as a future customer. read more

I called them because I heard noises in the attic. They came over and did a full inspection and sealed some potential access points. The culprit is likely rats. They had a very reasonable price. I was initially upset because I kept hearing noises. However, after contacting them again they sent out more people again and put new traps. They also suggested where the rodents were eating food so I changed my compost to a metal container. Then the noises stopped. Later I heard it again and they came back with a full team of 5 guys. I also must say they did not charge me any more money either! They really care about their customers. After I called the owner and explained that I still heard noises he assured me I would not even have to pay until they solved the problem. What I do know is that they will do whatever it takes and continue to help until the problem is solved. I recommend them to anyone with a pest problem. read more

I called this Paratex office in a bind; I needed a pest control service to give me an assessment of some damage, and tell me whether I should be worried of further infestation or damage on a house I wanted to put an offer in on. I got routed to Ray, who was not only friendly, but explained that, while a full inspection would take substantially longer, and would probably need to be scheduled for another time, he was willing to go to the house within a couple hours, and give me his assessment. I'm not a customer, but if I ever did need pest control services, I know who I will call. read more

Very poor experience with this company. Initial visit was ok. Then 5 months later I was invoiced and billed for a 2nd service visit to my house. I was never notified and person was in fact never here. Manager won't return my calls. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt and scheduled a time for another visit. No one showed up. read more

I called PARATEX to deal with a rat problem as I found signs of rat activity in an enclosure under my bathtub. They sent someone the same day cleaned up the nest told me that it set up some traps and said will come back in 2 weeks to check things out. As I had no signs after 2 weeks and did a bit of research I found out that it is kind of expected that rat exterminator would check in other spots, (like my attic) since rats travel around, and that they should find points of entries around the house and close them up with steel mesh. None of that happened. Then after a couple of calls and no callback finally came back to check things out, I pointed out that attic may be another place, went there and found a rat in a trap that was there from the previous owner I guess. Packed up and left again no sign after no looking for entry points. As I was worried that maybe rats would get caught in the traps he set and tart smelling (since I think I sense a faint new rotten smell in parts of the house) until I find another exterminator to help me, I opened the tub enclosure to see if anything is there. No Rats, but instead of snap traps that everyone recommends, I could a bunch of poison and some sticky tape type traps. Any research online said to not use poison as the rats would die in walls and smell and now you have to break the walls to find them and take them out! Also sticky tape is messy too. So now I have to figure out if I have a dead rat or more somewhere in my walls! read more

I only got as far as a phone call with these guys. Called them first because they were at the top of the Yelp list after only one review and gotta say, very disappointed. I had a bee problem - nothing crazy, and the guy who took my call had no clue what he was talking about. Every question I asked, he'd simply echo to someone sitting next to him to get the answer. When he finally realized I should be talking to the other guy (Jim), he patched me through and I had to start the whole line of questioning over. Jim acted like my call was a terrible inconvenience to him. Gave nothing but one word answers and simply didn't seem interested in my business. No worries, he's not going to get it. read more

They came to my house about a year ago to deal with carpenter ants. I am having them back this time to deal with a Bee hive. I see bees entering my house near the roof. I wouldn't have them back if they didn't do good work. They are top notch in my book. I called today at 10:00 am they came at 12:30. Jim (the owner) answered the phone and took care of everything from there. I am amazed how quickly they were out here. I am allergic to stings so I am glad that this is done.
