I'd passed this place more than one on my way to and from visiting the grave of my Maternal Grandmother at Forest Lawn Cypress, and was always curious as to how their food was. In this day and age, small businesses need help more than ever, so, last week, after having a somewhat disappointing birthday dinner in San Pedro, I decided to give this place a go, after paying a visit to Forest Lawn for Grandparents Day. The exterior looks nice, however, when you step inside, you get this down-home-country-roadside-cafe-diner-that's-just-the-thing-you-need-after-being-on-the-road-for-so-long feel. One of the first things you see when you walk through the doors is their baked goods display case with, what else? Their baked goods. That look scrumptious. I need to remind myself to buy one of those delicious-looking blueberry muffins I saw...In any case, Yelpers have categorized Dalton's Diner as, "Comfort Food". Not going to argue there. The environment certainly contributes to that. I ordered the Giant Dalton Burger with a side of Macaroni Salad, and a Raspberry Iced Tea. The picture I took unfortunately doesn't do the burger justice, as it's bigger than it looks in the picture, and way more appetizing! The grilled onions and mushrooms are a great part of the burger, which is cooked Well Done(I prefer Medium Rare, but the burger was still delicious). The Macaroni Salad was delicious, as well, and the Raspberry Iced Tea was refreshing. My eagle-eyed server was on the ball, and ready with a refill offer when my drink was getting low. 5 Stars for the food (I've only had the dinners). Yummy and plentiful. I usually end up taking enough home for a second meal. 6 Stars because they got some dang good carrot cake and zucchini muffins! I like to take the muffin home for the next morning. Slice in half, a little butter and 10 seconds in the microwave. AMAZING!! Great service here as well. This is a very vintage but cute restaurant. Do not expect gourmet meals, but you will definitely get great service, and a hearty meal. Most customers are elderly and the food is somewhat bland, but it's not anything a little salt & pepper can't fix. The servers are absolutely adorable and very helpful and kind. When I walked in the restaurant it had a weird smell . I ordered scrambled eggs, beacon and hash brown plate with toast the egg was over cooked the hash brown was delicious the beacon was cooked nicely. I don't like the butter the use . Overall the food was great. read more

Server on Saturday morning 8/17 breakfast was super rude. Waited 35-40 minutes for food to discover that both mine and my husbands orders were wrong. She was super defensive and rude and admitted she had delivered our order to another table. She acted annoyed when my husband sent back his order and she didn't bother to pick up his toast because he wanted new toast that would be fresh. We ended up walking out after trying to pay for coffee she just waved us off and told Is to leave. NEVER had this experience all servers have been pleasant but we will not be back read more

Found this place on yelp and also curious since we live in Cypress. Finally made it and it's very dated but I really like the feel. We hardly had to wait. Sylvia our waitress was super friendly attentive and patient. (Since it was our first time here and didn't know what we wanted to order) Food was good very tasty except my steak. Was tender and looked delicious. But had no flavor. I had to salted my self. Still wasn't good. Was tender tho.... We will definitely be back and give it another go, next time. read more

Great food it's your old school classic diner and the food was fast and delicious and can't wait to come back and try more things. I had the club sandwich and it would stand up to any other good one you can buy at your local restaurant. My wife had the ham and cheese omelette and it was delicious with lots of cheese and flavor and would definitely get it again the service was top notch even with what it looked like was one person working 12 plus tables. We came for a very late brunch and the Dalton omelette was delicious!! We ordered it with the home fries that are prepared with bell peppers and onions; they tasted so good! You must try their homemade muffins!! We tried the zucchini and pumpkin cream ones and they were both moist and packed with flavor! We visited here after spending the day at knotts. The food wasn't bad, some of it was a little bland, but it was still good. The waitress was great and super friendly to our daughter. The big downfall was that there's no changing tables for babies. We came looking for traditional American diner fare and left suffering serious symptoms of food coma. I had the Prime Rib with some sort of Kielbasa soup while my friend had the standard Country Fried Steak and Eggs. - The kielbasa soup was awesome. It reminded me of a loaded baked potato soup with big chunks of kielbasa thrown in. The potatoes were so tender, they melted in your mouth! - The prime rib wasn't mind blowing but exactly what is supposed to be so mind blowing about a LARGE (even by my standards) slab of properly cooked meat, anyway? Dalton's portion game is STRONG. - Their baked potatoes are definitely worth mentioning. Most places skimp on sour cream and butter, but these folks pry open the potato and mash a health portion into the top layer to make sure you get enough. - The mac and cheese was a little watery, so I ended up barely eating it. Not because it was bad, but because I was getting full from everything else. -Their garlic toast was homemade and delicious - definitely something I was not expecting. Don't judge a book by it's cover. The exterior really doesn't do justice for what you'll find inside. My sister and I ate there for the first time on Veteran's Day and we got in just before the breakfast rush. Service was great, prices were perfect for the portions (you won't leave hungry!), and the food was delicious! This place is a total mom and pop version of Hofs Hutt. It has a very cafeteria feel. The service was very good. The menu was too big! I never know what to order when there are too many choices. Such amazing customer service! Came in here for the first time today and was excited to try their breakfast. It's a great diner that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food was great as well! I had a veggie omelette (which I highly recommend) with some hashbrowns and whole wheat toast on the side. It's cozy and staff is friendly. Driving by you wouldn't know how great this little spot was. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food took me back. I honestly felt like I was at my grandmas house. Found a hair in my food! Then when going to pay we asked nicely if the sandwich could be taken off the bill. The server came up while we were talking to the manager and said what's the problem with an attitude and her hands on her hips. They did decide to give it to us for free. But then after we could hear our server and the manager talking crap about us and saying the hair wasn't even in the food it was on top even though we watched them pull more hair out of the other slices of the sandwich. 0/10 will not come back and was not happy with our experience. read more

We love coming to this cafe on Sundays after church and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Coffee is tasty and not to mentioned the food is phenomenal, Good portions, We even take our left overs, Hubby loves to make his left overs into a muffin sandwich that he calls it the "McDalton". Came here with the family for Father's Day. We had to wait for 10 minutes but it went quickly. The interior is slightly dingy and needs some much needed TLC. The menu was standard diner food. I had the Country Scramble. The portion size was rather small, but it was very filling. I'd recommend adding the Louisiana sausage. My boys enjoyed the pancakes, and my wife loved the Belgian waffle. It's an old-fashioned coffee shop. Breakfast is reasonably priced and seasonal pancake are also available pumpkin pancake is verydelicious. There is also prime rib on Fridays. If you're lucky, you'll get a set of prime rib and eggs for breakfast on Saturday. No matter what you eat, it's really delicious, and the homemade potatoes are very delicious. read more

I am so sorry. I hate leaving negative comments but I called ahead and was assured that the pancakes were from scratch, not just a plain old pre-mixed batter with additives. I said with eggs and milk and flour? She said yeah. Maybe they are? I have no idea. I wasn't allowed to just try one, I had to buy two in order to make my purchase. That's $4 each pancake and some change. For me, that's too much. But I know what a real pancake tastes like and this is not it. It tastes very similar to the many other universal pancakes you can find anywhere else. I'm gluten free and every now and then just to have a pancake experience I'll take that risk. But when you don't have it for a while you can tell the difference of the bleached taste and the added sugar. It tastes like a flat cheap cake in a box from an 90's bargain store. I'm on a hunt. I really do consider myself a pancake connoisseur. When you grow up with it and your mom makes buttermilk deliciousness, you want to relive it like that movie Ratatouille. I hate artificial preservative bleached sugar flat cakes see? I hate leaving negative comments. I will say this though, everyone was really nice but the woman on the phone? Didn't sound very honest.
