My wife earmarked this place to try on a Wednesday. Why Wednesday? She loves chicken and dumplings and that's the only day they have them. She loved them, I tried them and liked them too. I saw reviews about the Walburger and had to try one of those, and some onion rings, and some bread pudding, i'm happy to report that everything we tasted lived up to their billing. The burger was large, juicy and full of flavor, the rings were tasty, and the chicken and dumplings were so good that we finished them off....our very nice waitress told us they go fast so you need to get here early on Wednesdays. We'll be back for more goodies and soon, we may need to try some German food next time. read more

The rolls!!!! They are amazing! Not sure if they make them from scratch, but they blew me away. I had the country fried steak. The batter was tasty; the meat could have used a bit of seasoning though. Their outdoor seating is a great place to hang out with family and friends. They even have a basketball court at the back. Great little hideout in the country for live music and delicious bites! Blackened chicken sandwich was fabulous and hamburgers and fries were tasty. Their mashed potatoes and green beans were good too! We were all freezing sitting outside not expecting it to be that cold after the beautiful day we had. Interesting little town .. Walburg. It's a few miles east off the I-35 on the 972 .. that's one way to get here. Not the path we chose. Rather, a meandering country road drive to this small town on a recommendation that we stop by this outdoor music, eats, and drinks venue. Pass under the steel Dales and a giant fire tub (not pit) meets you near the entrance to the courtyard area. Plenty of picnic table seating around. The bar open to the courtyard is also where you order your eats. A covered dance and band area offers plenty of 2-step room (I'm more the awkward freestyle type). It's quite a large space for this small town. It appears there's a second bar area for when things here are really 'hoppin' - definitely full of character, the place and the people. Not many beer options, this is not a craft beer place. Firemans 4 is popular. Eats tonight, the Texas Walburger, fries, and a third Firemans 4 Blonde Ale. A generous 1/2lb patty between square Texas toast (duh). Tucked inside are onion rings, bbq sauce (which was a tad sweet for me) and cheddar cheese. Not my normal regular just plain burger go to burger. Fries ... good. Overall a hearty meal at just under $7 plus beer. I can definitely see coming here again and bringing out of the area visitors. Why did I wait so long to try this place?! My burger was huge, fresh and delicious! The onion rings were some of the best I've had! Crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. I hate to post this review, but I feel like I have to. The wife and I just ate lunch at Dales. The food was great as usual, but NONE of the current Covid 19 guidelines were being followed. None of the staff including the cook were wearing masks. The tables weren't sanitized between customers - just wiped with a wet rag. Forget social distancing. This must be a recent occurrence. I was there last week for dinner and the staff had masks on. 65 degree evening, a little breezy, and a welcoming fire pit outside to keep warm! Now that's a welcoming site, if i've ever seen one! This place has an indoor dining room, if you don't want to brave the elements. However, I think that's why we all go to these little places; the atmosphere, scenery, music, and of course food. The atmosphere was awesome, fire pit at sundown. The scenery was terrific, underneath the big trees. The music was cool, a local band playing 80's and 90's cover music. The food was great! I ordered Dale's Wahlburger, which was coocked to perfection, and has got to be in my top 5 of great tasting burgers in Austin. Definitely a place to come back to in the near future. read more

I ordered the grilled chicken with Baked Potatoe and Corn. The grilled chicken breast is NOT a "C cup", and it's NOT even an "A cup" size. It was closer to what would go into a "Beginners cup". If you catch my drift-Ladies. Just how I'm feeling about the whole experience tonight. This was a very very thin slice of a Chicken Breast. Not worth the money. Just glad the husband did not order this. It was an okay meal, and hopefully you can tolerate something like canned corn. I just felt it was over-priced. WALBURGER MAKES MY TOP 5 BEST BURGERS EVER LIST! (Yes, I yelled that.) Seriously, Dale's serves up one really good burger. What makes it a "top 5" burger? The meat! A generously-sized patty (I'm guessing 1/3 pound) that's doesn't dwarf the bun, doesn't fall apart, is actually seasoned with enough salt to bring out the flavor, and is not overcooked. Rarely do I find a burger joint that can pull off all that. Then they take steps to not screw it up by keeping the rest of the burger parts straightforward - fresh lettuce/tomato, grilled onions and a nice soft unadorned bun. I got mine with cheese and jalepenos (which were of the pickled variety - as it should be). I didn't try the fries but can give a thumbs up to the beer-batter-style onion rings. Dales' gets more props for a biergarten adjacent to the restaurant and Fireman's 4 on tap. Well worth the drive to Walburg! read more

Went to Dale's for the first time yesterday. It's about a 20 mile drive from where we live. It was a perfect 82 degree sunny Texas February day so we ate outside on the patio. Got the pork schnitzel with mashed, collard greens and Texas toast. I hadn't had schnitzel since I moved to Texas from Chicago in 2006. It was schnitzel heaven! Service was great too. We'll be back. Dale's is a perfect place to sit outside under the trees at a picnic table with a beer. But it will be difficult to try anything else on the menu but that perfect schnitzel. read more

What a disappointment. We arrived at 5:30 to eat, watch the band start playing, then leave. Five people were already seated next to us. They received their food before we even ordered ours, as expected. We ordered, ate and then ordered dessert. Just as we set our spoons down an employee came by our table and says he is throwing us out. Mind you we have been here 45 minutes. He says the tables are for people to eat and then to move on. I told him we were waiting on our waitress to bring us our ticket and we literally just sat our spoons down from dessert. He says they have a policy that when you are finished eating you move on, and we knew this, they have signs. We asked why the table next to us that finished eating 30 minutes ago has not moved on as we were being told to do. He says he hasn't noticed them but we needed to pay and go. My wife told him how rude he was being towards us and this imbecile actually disagrees and says he was not being rude. I paid of course and still left a tip even after this event which should never have occurred. These people get enough of their hometown clientele, the food is good but to have to deal with this kind of stupidity, we wont be back and if they treated us in this manner, as quiet as we were, then you are at fault for having any issues here in this establishment after reading this review. Harassment of any sort from a restaurant is intolerable. read more
