Bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel with a small coffee for $3.50. This is what keeps me coming back. One of the cheapest places to get that anymore these days in NYC. They also have so many different bagels to pick from (everything, onion, garlic, sesame, egg, pumpernickel, etc.) so that's also a plus. My only complaint is that the bagels are very doughy. They keep sticking to the back of my front teeth with each bite. That just really bugs me. They stick on pretty snugly too. Swishing with water doesn't dislodge them, and I don't want to be sticking my fingers into my mouth during my subway ride. I know eating is not allowed on the train, but that's what true New Yorkers do! Service here is usually pretty quick. It can get pretty busy, but the employees do their best to get everyone in and out in a timely fashion. My biggest gripe with this place is how they have their pastries just sitting out in the open on the counter, mouth level with customers. I have been a long time customer at this store but lately, the service and quality has been lacking. Buying good bagels is now a hit or miss. Sometimes they are under cooked with raw dough or is hard and burnt. Fresh bagels are usually served in the early morning and mid afternoon. Other times are just unsold leftovers. The place is very hectic in the morning with everyone coming to buy breakfast and coffee. Only one person takes care of front counter; serving coffee and acting as cashier; in addition to be constantly on the phone. The other staff tend to the grill. I have at times spend at least 10 to 15 minutes waiting to buy just a few bagels. read more

Wow, this is really not the bagel deli you want to partake. Flies around the bagels and the flat grill is as dirty as they come. Looks like they havn't cleaned it in months. I was a weekly customer at the store for about a year. The manager/owner had answered the phone as I was almost ready to pay my bill. I waited patiently for him to finish his call, then he came to the register. Suddenly another customer walked in took an Italian hero bread and handed the manager/owner $2.00 with little regard to my being ahead of that customer. 3.5 stars The difference between Brooklyn bagels and any other bagel is the amount of cream cheese they put inside. $3 for a scallion cream cheese on an everything bagel and let me tell you, they definitely put a generous amount of cream cheese on it. Truly making it a Brooklyn bagel! However, although the cream cheese was plenty the scallions were not. Back in the 80's, after the clubs closed, this was the place to go. Cars were triple parked to pick up hot fresh bagels. Now, the place is a disease, with a filthy cooking area and 2 day old rock hard bagels. The only good things are their fresh rice pudding and homegrown. Best bagels in Brooklyn by far, and believe me I have tried a lot of 'em. These are really large and have that soft, almost gooey texture that you can only find in NY. I send bagels to my family down south each year from various places and these are everyone's favorite. I read reviews about bad rolls, croissants, etc. and I cannot review those items, as I am sensible enough not to order a roll from a bagel place and expect it to be amazing. I mean, I do not review a steak house based on their fish sticks...ya know what I mean? The pricing I find to be pretty good. Their pastries are good, some look crappy but most are fresh in the mornings. Their deli items like tuna fish, deli meats, etc. are also good. The service, well that can vary. I was very confused the first few times I came here and every time I come (unless it is nearly empty), I always have this awkward 'where do I stand to wait' feeling. But, this is kind of the norm at bagel places, so it isn't something to deduct a star for. The people ringing you up at the counter are always polite though. read more

I come here on Saturday and Sunday mornings before my games to grab some breakfast to eat on the road. My food of choice is a Whole Wheat Everything bagel, toasted with veggie cream cheese. Simple but effective. However, this bagel is one of the best bagels I've ever had in this neighborhood. The service is pretty good and the guys behind the counter are friendly. They leave their bagels out and exposed with flies crawling all over the bagels and then they sell it to people... They need to store their food in insect proof containers. If it weren't for all the bugs crawling on the food, it would be a decent place for a quick breakfast bagel. It wasn't like this when it use to be "hot bagels," seemed more sanitary then. I love this place. I don't even like bagels, but these ones are soft and chewy and really delicious. They have mini ones and medium sized ones, too, if you don't want a regular large bagel. They have rolls, croissants and other pastries, muffins, eggs, and a deli selection of meats and cheeses, cole slaw, caprese salad, egg, tuna, & potato salads, mixed vegetables, various cream cheese flavors, etc. The guys who work there are so incredibly nice, too.
