Stopped in on a Tuesday night after Labor Day. The restaurant was busy (inside dining room was full) but we preferred sitting outside next to the creek anyway (perfect weather). The service was friendly albeit busy (we were in no hurry). Ordered a beer and a glass of wine then waited a bit for the Krabong (delicious dipping sauces), the Khao soi (vegetarian - the curry was expertly balanced - not too "coconutty" or too spicy) and the Khao mu daeng (pork was perfectly cooked and the "gravy" was divine). This is our third time at Dalaya. We were so excited because we had great time and food the last couple of times. We got there a little past 6pm and ordered our food ten minutes after we were seated. The appetizer came around 10-15 minutes later then our enthusiasm started to diminish as times went by. As we waited for our entrees to come, people started to leave. One table gone. Another table gone. The inside of restaurant had two tables left. Where was our food? After one hour and 20 minutes, our food had finally come. We lost all our interest because of the long wait. We are so dissatisfied and disappointed of how they managed the matter. The ribs were cold. The duck was fried for too long. There was no sincere feedback from the establishment when we complained about how long we had waited except the server (not her fault, she is nice) said they had to cook according to the time of orders. But our appetizer came 80 minutes apart from our entrees. We are not coming back at least for a long while. read more

I am so happy to have a wonderful Thai restaurant close to us that serves such delicious food. This is not your average pad Thai Americanized dishes. This is very authentic to Thailand and the food is really amazing because it delivers all of that spice, sweetness and freshness. Every time I go there, I have to have an order of the wings. These are the best wings I've had in the entire south. Also, the curry is amazing but while you're there, they always do a unique or special dish or two that day and you should definitely indulge in that. Exceptionally delicious Thai food and fantastic beer list with some uncommon selections. Interior is spartan and seating is not comfortable, but offers great views of the river below. The issues we had relate to prices and portion size inconsistencies. Certain dishes have ample portion sizes, such as the Sesame Tofu ($9) and Phat Khana fried Brussels sprouts ($14). But the Khoong Yang prawns (2 prawns - $15) were *waaaay* overpriced. They're served whole, which gives the appearance of quantity, but each tail could have been a single bite. We cut ours into 2 small bites so we could try each of the 2 accompanying sauces. There should never be more waste in a dish than edible product. $15 for 2 bites worth of food is just too much. The chicken massaman curry was very balanced and tasty ($17), but again, for the price it could have used more chicken and potatoes. There are no condiment dishes at the table that are commonly found at Thai restaurants, so I requested a small side of chili paste ($0.50) because I like my Thai food really spicy. We each had an adult beverage - me a beer ($8) and my wife a cider ($6). For dessert, the Thai tea ice cream ($9) was rich and creamy, with subtle tea flavor. Service was decent and we appreciated that the chef checked on the tables to make sure everything was prepared to customers' liking. If the food wasn't so excellent, we would have rated Dalaya 2 stars for lack of value. After tips, our date night meal for 2 was $96. That puts it on par with exceptional local alternatives like Ilda's. We're glad we tried it and I expect we'll be back someday, but not as often as we'd like. read more

Best food in Sylva. Plaa todd curry is so good. Hanger steak with veggies and sticky rice is also a go to. Their massanan gai has cinnamon sticks in it and definitely reccomend. Took a chance on this Northern Thai food restaurant due to the excellent reviews, and it did NOT disappoint! On the outside, this building appears underwhelming like the reviews said but the inside was clean and cozy, no problems at all. I'm uploading pictures of our food, we ordered the kaeng hung leh and khao soi under recommendation from our amazing server Alicia, after telling her things we liked and disliked, and they were absolutely delicious. Completely different flavors, but they complemented eachother very well. I liked that on the coconut chicken curry noodles that they put options to add (spicy sauce, lime, pickled greens) on the side, we ended up liking all of them and once we added them they enhanced the overall flavor in a beautiful way! The short ribs dish with soup and rice was so flavorful and rich. If we're ever in this area again we would certainly come back and order the identical dishes. While we were eating we could hear our neighboring tables that had ordered other dishes raving about their meals to eachother too. I highly recommend giving this Thai place a try! read more

I really, really wanted to like this place. We arrived and it was unclear what we were supposed to do in order to get seated. Out of the blue, a man, who it was unclear worked for the establishment, started asking us questions about our party and where we wanted to sit, so we deduced he worked there. But there would have been no way for us to know that. He then disappeared and we did not see him again. There were two waiters for a busy Saturday and the staff were frazzled. Despite this, the food came out relatively quickly. The food was okay. The hanger steak was super rare, but given how long it took for us to even get water, we didn't think it was worth bringing it up. The rest of the food was average. I'm not lying when I say this restaurant cured my depression. Best food I've had since I moved to WNC in August 2020. I got pork skewers (Muu Ping) and sticky rice and it was SO good and flavorful. You won't see many things on the menu that you recognize but I get the feeling you can't go wrong. This place is an absolute gem! We just so happened to be driving through on a long trip and after a week of "fast" style food this was absolutely what we needed. I was able to easily order online when we were about 25 minutes out, and it was ready when we arrived. (So easy and fast while traveling!) Everything is obviously fresh, and if you're looking to expand your palette this is a must-visit spot. It's so nice to have good quality and so much flavor! The lemongrass ginger tea is so amazing, and I appreciate refreshing options beyond the typical "sweet tea". Ha! Second or third time coming to Dalaya and truly some of the best Thai food I have ever had! However, I was incredibly disheartened by the service and it is rare that make a comment as such considering I am a long time service industry worker. Server was friendly to other tables yet very rude to us. Didn't tell us the specials as he did with other tables, didn't refill our waters, seemed annoyed by our presence. He apologized for the wait on the food to every tables except for us, which it did take a while but I am understanding as it is a very small kitchen and the food is so outstanding I don't mind waiting. I understand sometimes people have off days but he was pleasant to everyone else ! As I thanked him upon leaving all I received was a snobbish "mmhmm". I'm sorry but what?!? Very disappointed by the interaction as a whole. I will be back because the food is a must if you're in sylva but I desperately hope we don't have the same waiter. read more

Hubs had the Mussel Special, I had the Khao Soi after we shared Spring Rolls. First item of note, food is served piping hot. Temp not spice. Having been to Thailand, this is truly good Thai food. I'm not sure what the woman's name was who came out and took our order but she was so kind in making recommendations. When I told her (just conversationally) that I've been dying for some Thai iced tea but cant find anyone who serves it dairy-free, she laughed and said she has the same issues and guess what- makes her own rice milk for it!! I never thought that I would have the best and most authentic Thai food in Sylva, but then I went to Dalaya. Their food is so delicious! The restaurant is small, so come early if you have a big party (or get it to go). The food is definitely spicy, so keep that in mind. Try washing it down with some Thai tea or coffee! read more
