Just moved to Bucktown and have been fruitlessly searching for a great brow threading spot after relocating from LA. I am happy to say my search has stopped! Both women working were friendly, helpful and professional. Even as a veteran of threading, this was the first time in a long time that I felt I had a nice pre-threading consultation about what shape I desired and what would work for my face. Perhaps the best part was how little pain I experienced. Let's just say it had been A WHILE since my last thread and I expected my skin to be extremely sensitive. I decided to try this place based on all the positive reviews. I was not disappointed. I was warmly accepted as a walk-in (even though there was only one girl working at the time) for eyebrow threading and a pedicure. Both services were top-notch! Delivered with delightful conversation and great customer service. Nadia took care of me. Threading was super quick and much less painful than my previous experiences. No massage chairs for the pedi but they more than make up for it with a lengthy foot/leg rub with multiple scrubs :) I feel pretty...I will be back... FYI - Though they accept walk-ins, I will probably call ahead next time and I suggest you do the same. Just two girls running this place and they've got mad skillz! read more

I have come to this place for threading on my face. I had a great experience the first time. Huma took her time, gave me breaks because it was my first time threading certain area. I have gone to this place 3 times after my first time, and it is always a bad experience, with them missing spots and doing a really rough job. We cannot really see the missing spots due to dim lighting, even though they tell you to check for yourself I was there today, soon after it opened for the day. I was the only customer, but soon after 2 customers were in the waiting area. I am not sure if this is the reason, but my threading was done so fast and so rough. I also have a couple of minute scratches under my eye from cuts. These people are dealing with someone's face, and even though you may not have great experience every time, you would at least expect them to be somewhat careful. I felt completely unhuman, and just like an object that someone worked on very hastily. I will never go back there again. read more

Oh trendy Bucktown, how I love to try and blend in to your hip indie crowd. You are just filled with gems left and right, why can't you be closer to the lake?! Enough with my "ode", but my last visit to Bucktown I came across this new hip salon/spa and decided to pop in as someone commented on my brows the other day and not in a way that made me feel complimented. I've never had my eyebrows waxed or threaded as I'm a tweezer gal through and through, but I decided it's time to become a "classy" lady and get it done professionally. When I saw they had eyebrows waxing for $10 i was sold. Now I have fantastic, shaped and clean eyebrows! 4.5 stars! It was a VERY hot Sunday but I needed a pedi and I'd just read a good review of this spot on Yelp. Being only a #49 bus ride away, I came here and walked into an empty salon. However, Milani was ultra-friendly, offering me water or juice before my pedi - a nice touch! (First place I've ever been offered a beverage before a mani or pedi.) I wasn't crazy about the small soaking stations, but they did the job. The magazine selection also wasn't as great as I'd hoped for - no US or People?! - but Milani's skills were first-rate. Seemed like she massaged my feet and legs a LONG time, and my toes looked fab when she finished. Plus, she actually talked and asked questions, something I don't think I've ever experienced during a pedi! Great color selection, too, and at a bargain basement price - I'll be back for sure. read more

I've gone to Huma Salon a few times now and am always very pleased. Everyone there is kind and knowledgeable. It's super easy to make an appointment and the prices are very reasonable. Fatima threaded my eyebrows and did a French bikini for me. She was so fast! And while the wax was painful (because duh) she worked so quickly it was over before I knew it. She worked quickly and thoroughly on my eyebrows that it hardly even stung. I was very impressed and will be asking for her again. read more

I'm really picky about my eyebrow threading being done right and carefully. When I lived in the suburbs I went to at least 3 different places until finding a place I liked. Thankfully this was the first place I went and I was very pleased. However, I got no-chip from here and it chipped within a week. :-( Thankfully, they have a guarantee on their no chip so I was able to come in and get it touched up. :-) Unfortunately, that only lasted about another week so I'm not sure if I'll go back for the no chip. :-/ They were very careful/thorough with the manicure and pedicure though. :-) I didn't want to post individually, but if I had... 5 stars for eyebrows 4 for customer service (I wish they would have re-done all my nails instead of touching up the ones that chipped, but besides that the girls are wonderful!!! I go to Huma Salon for threading and no chip/manicures. The prices are fair, the place is clean, and the area is safe. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my eyebrows because the girls do a great job. When I say leave them thick, they do! Ive had so many bad experiences in other places, and not one bad one yet at Huma. Last time I went, I called 30 minutes before they closed on a Friday night, and they fit me in for no-chip and eyebrows without any fuss. I ended up leaving at least 30 minutes after closing. Just went here today to get my eyebrows threaded after hearing good things and I was not disappointed! I did not have an appointment so when I got there (around 1on a Friday) one lady told me that it would be a 20 minute wait but I only had to wait about 5 minutes before she said she could take me. Considering I had not made an appointment, I was really happy about that! Once I sat down, she asked me what I would like to do with my eyebrows and I explained what I wanted done (it had been awhile since I had gotten them done, so they were looking pretty wild). She did them quickly and painlessly, checking with me frequently on the progress. The overall process took about 5 minutes and then I was done! And it only cost $9. These girls are really sweet. It's nice to go to a place in my neighborhood and see people running their own business instead of your usual mani-pedi factory where the employees don't even talk to you. The place is bare bones and there aren't a lot of frills, but the mani-pedi is standard and the girl who did mine gave an amazing foot rub! BEST full leg wax ever! First and best leg wax in Chicago. Never knew about them until I got a groupon with them for $30 full leg wax. Since then they locked in the price for me forever! Went here and got one of the worst mani pedis and eyebrow threading of my life. I very seldomly leave reviews but I went here because I'm new to the area and checked yelp for a good nail salon. I cannot believe this place has so many good reviews, and I'm generally easy to please (really, I never go to the same place twice because I'm usually fine with whatever). Let's start with the beginning, pedi water was cool to lukewarm, had to tell the lady the water was a bit cool before she fixed it (apparently this is the temperature of the water they do for customers). Then, mani was A MESS. Im talking top coat not covering all of the bottom color, clumpy mess. They don't have nail dryers which I wouldn't fault them on except that I didn't see a sanitizer station either. No fan no sanitization (maybe it was in the back). Finally, I got my eyebrows threaded, I have very intense eyebrows which I hadn't gotten done in months. She threaded them for maybe about 2 minutes total. When I got out of the chair it was uneven, messy, and patchy where she actually did take out some hairs. I was so upset I didn't even say anything and figured I'd just leave without saying a word to them... I don't want a place that clearly doesn't know what they are doing to fix something they messed up in the first place... this place was cheap, but they are cheap for a reason. Do not come!! $45 for no chip mani and regular pedi is an awesome price but I don't think I'll be coming back here for that deal. The customer service was good, the nail tech was accommodating and nice. My first point of improvement for this shop would be to have the no chip colors displayed on plastic nails, for easy choosing (they just have the bottled on the wall and it's hard to pick a color when the bottles are all black). They do have a good deal of no chip colors to pick from, though. After my pedicure when I was waiting for them to dry, my middle toe nail rubbed on the toe separator and ruined the polish. Totally my fault, but the nail tech just painted over the smudge and forgot to put a clear coat over when it dried (I forgot too). When she was painting over, I thought it looked fine so I didn't ask for her to go to the trouble to take the polish off that toe and start over but when I got home I realized she should have taken the time to do it. As for the no chip, she was pretty sloppy. There were some nails she could have wiped around my cuticles because she went overboard and some nails she didn't paint up to the cuticle. It's been a week and I just noticed this morning my thumbnail is beginning to peel near the corner a great deal. :( read more

I like this place but I will say unless you are a regular the 'feel' isn't there. I did like my no chip manicure and after two weeks its still on. They just don't do any design work at all, not even glitter, star or heart so if you like creative nails I would say this isn't the place for you. I got my brows threaded.... I have been to the $5 places off of Devon and they compared to here... sadly to say are abouts the same. It is very close to my home so I will most likely be back. I had a lifebooker deal for a $15 facial here. I had a great experience overall (bearing in mind that it was so cheap). More like 3.5 stars. But the extra half is for the friendly girls who own/run it. So, when I made the appointment they let me add on a $15 pedicure. I kind of hesistated given that I had never set foot in the salon and who knows whether it was woth it or not. Well, I lucked out on this one! The overall:This place is worth $15 for a facial. The pedicure was just so-so. They don't have the massage chairs as another yelper pointed out, but they did give me a cozy blanket during the facial (someone else said they were cold). I do that means they read their reviews, because just a few quick and relatively cheap improvements would make the place awesome. I think they need some spa music in the treatment room. You can hear noise outside of the salon, plus it just makes it feel like you should talk since there's no other sounds in the room. Kind of awkward, but easily remedied. My other issue was that the deal was for a 50min facial as far as I remember, and mine was maaaaaaybe 30 minutes. It felt very standardized, i.e. they put the same thing on everyone's face. That's fine, but if you have skin issues I would stay away. For the most part, the lotions/cremes/scrubs were great, but one definitely smelled like Nair. It was kind of getting to me after a while. Then it slowly became a seaweed smell, and I felt like I had sushi all over my face based on the strong odor of seaweed. Authentic I guess? I would also suggest that the person doing facials (I believe it was Huma), may need to learn some new facial massage techniques. It was very, very repetitive to say the least. So- great for $15, but get some tunes and maybe some variety of products. Pedicure- skip it. It was fine, but nothing special at all. It was awkward in that the didn't have actual pedicure massage chairs, so it was like a chair at a dentist's office waiting room and a bucket of water (with aromatherapy scents) and a lid that slid from one side to the other to get your legs in and out. She did do a good job painting them, so that matters too. -nice selection of colors (all OPI), too. If you have a coupon, go. If not, it looks like they generally have good prices, so I guess go anyway. Very friendly staff, but it's going to need to be spruced up to get me to go back. Do not go here. I bought a Groupon for a mani/pedi and it was a huge mistake. Pedicure- The pedicurist did not know the necessary precautions to take to prevent ingrown toenails, (like curving the edges of my nails and removing build-up). So now, day's later, my toes are so sore and unfortunately, I'm developing in-growns (need to see a doctor about that...) Also she did not cover the tub/basin with a bag. I am praying she had sanitized the tub and the instruments before letting me put my feet in there like she said she did. I really should not have taken the risk. Lastly, she gave me the feeling that she did not completely know what she was doing. Instead of clipping my nails and then filing them to shape them, she just gave up on the clippers after a few seconds and filed them down all the way. I get a pedicure about once a month and have never had quite as unsettling an experience as this one. Manicure- Like my toes, my fingers are sore all around the nail areas. I'm not sure why as this has never happened to me during a manicure before. I think the manicurist (the same woman did my hands and toes) must have poked and prodded incorrectly or removed too much skin, but it's very uncomfortable and somewhat painful. Don't go here. Just don't do it. P.S. I never checked to see if they had their nail technician licenses. Rookie mistake. I hope I don't pay for it permanently. read more

Charged an extra $7 for polish removal that they previously did not charge on my past visits. Did not ask how long I wanted my nails or which shape, so now I have short square nails which I HATE. I've only ever gotten my eyebrows threaded here. In regardless, it's always been a great job and I've had three different girls. Eyebrow threading is only $9. I haven't gone anywhere else in the city so I'm not sure how price compares, but when I go back to the suburbs it's about the same. I come here for my threading needs. Living in Logan Square, being new to Chicago, and car-less, I don't have that many options or much knowledge about where to go. This place is super convenient, has good hours, and is a quick walk from the Western blue line. Every time I've been here, I've been able to be seen right away as a walk in. I don't feel rush, but they also do a quick and efficient job. They trim as well, which to me is a sign of a good thread shop. They have a frequent visitor card that gets stamped. I haven't filled mine but I think you get a free visit or something once it gets filled.They take credit card and the prices are super reasonable. I think it's about 15 bucks total with tip for eyebrow and lip. Definitely a good spot to hit up for threading needs if you're in the area. read more
