They sat us quick and took our orders. It did take a while to get the food but it was worth it. We had the gumbo, poor boy, cajun shrimp basket and French toast. The shrimp was really good!!! The portions were super large for the price. The gumbo was good but nothing to wow you. The boudin eggrolls were tasty and had a good sweet sauce for dipping.

So I came back again while in NOLA and again, still worth it! This time I did try something on the lunch side of the menu and went with the gulf shrimp Poboy. They do NOT skimp on the shrimp here. It was full of shrimp, flavor, and veggies. It came served with a side of fries that were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Once again, service leaves A LOT to be desired, but I feel like you get what you get with diners. Friendly service would make this 5 stars for me. But as long as it's clean and the food is good, no real complaints from me.

We stumbled upon this cute 1950s themed diner on veterans Boulevard in Kenner. At 10:30 AM on a Saturday we did not have to wait. It was pretty crowded but they had a table open with some seats still at the dining bar. The restaurant looks like a roadside diner from Route 66 in it's heyday. I loved the vintage feel. The menu had breakfast and lunch items. I was craving pancakes so I had a stack. They were huge. My mom had the chicken and waffles. The menu says chicken tenders, but it looks like they gave her the whole chicken. She had to take half of it home. She loved it. Our waitress was very friendly. I will definitely check this place out for lunch.

Food portions: are NO JOKE. Recommend: Yes. Period. Job well done here. Highly recommend to ask ABOUT the sizes of their meals when ordering because just the fish and chips was enormous. Very speedy Waitressing and food was hot, delicious and delivered in under 10 minutes flat. Wonderful decor, patriotic flags from all branches hanging from the ceiling and yesteryear styled round 50's era bar seating near the kitchen. Food was great, no issues per se but don't recommend the 'Gator Bites' as they're more of a mashed 'hush-puppy' type of presentation. Otherwise, enjoyed this place, very minimal seating area, well lit with windows and positive atmosphere overall. Come grab a meal!!

We were staying close to the airport and were wanting something quick. This fit the bill perfectly! You can order breakfast all day long or get sandwiches/burgers etc. The food was fantastic. The pancakes were the best part for me. They also have blue plate specials like on Thursdays, it was chicken fried steak with mashed taters for 9.99 (served with a drink). Service was good and the place is really clean with a lot of great decor!

The Diner Delight!

Stopped in to the Daisy Duke's Diner with Chas after flying in from Newark one morning and was fixated on trying something new. I had been here before in the past and had tried just some eggs with grits, biscuits and gravy, etc...but today I wanted something else. I have always loved the décor in here, and the owner is always around talking to people and the staff is always friendly. For today's trip...I'm trying "The Diner Delight"! This is a chicken and waffles sandwich that also has bacon and egg on it and is served with country gravy. This sandwich was intense, and at times quite confusing. Some bites I really wanted that creamy country gravy, some bites I wanted to add some hot sauce, and others I wanted some maple syrup for that waffle. Ultimately I ended up mixing all three and dipping the sandwich right in there. If you need something that's going to put you right back in bed...this is the one for you. It's super heavy, but delicious. As always, Daisy Dukes - Didn't Suck!

raging cajun shrimp

This place was terrible from the service to the food ! Our group had the chicken strips the shrimp and grits, the gumbo amd collard greens and the raging cajun shrimp . The raging cajun shrimp amd the shrimp and grits were completely in-edible. When we addressed it with the waitress she acted like we were an inconvenience and were disturbing her . Note she was too busy visiting with 2 young guys at the bar ..l. Now if you would like to come here and only eat toast .. that toast is awesome .. everything else . not so much . Definitely need a refund on my time and money

Early bird 2-Egg Breakfast

Great little local restaurant with all American breakfast classucs. I had tgeir early bird morning special of 2 eggs, grits, sausage and a biscuit. I also added a side of gravy. The breakfast plate was $6.99! I was shocked. This was standard, but exactly what I wanted. I will surely be back. Service was quick and comfortable at the bar, as a female and solo diner, which is not always the case

Chili cheese, fries, app, add onions, colored greens, side, and country fried steak.

Quick, Saturday lunch in a really cute, quiet, bustling diner. Very retro and comfy. Daisy S. was our server, and brought our coffee, OJ and soda before taking our order. (This is a plus.) Husband ordered Country Fried Steak w/mashed potatoes and green beans; I opted for a side of chili cheese fries with chopped onions and collard greens. Served quick and hot, and all condiments on the table, so no delay in waiting on sauces. Was a little surprised at the size of the chili cheese fries for $8.99, but they were good and it's hard to find chili cheese fries to my liking, so yes, I'd order them again anyway. Was amused to notice we could have ordered hard liquor with our meals in this diner - anyone for a margarita with their omelet? (Breakfast is served all day.) The only leftovers were some collards and green beans. Check was handled quickly, and we left commenting it was a good choice.

I now return to New Orleans for the great food 4 or 5 times a year. We are also New Orleans Saints season ticket holders! Geaux Saints!! Anyway, Harbor Seafood has been our go to place for many years, however, we went in early March and was very disappointed.. so, we decided to try other places for a while before giving them another chance. It paid off, the issue we had last time was a cold oyster po-boy, and a young lady server who seemed to feel we were bothering her, instead of providing decent service. Past is the past, we went back on this last trip while in NOLa for the last 3 saints games (another disappointment, but that's another story) This time my po- boy was hot and tasty, and my wife had the blackened snapper. Both excellent! Only thing to mention is it was a late Sunday after the game, the bread did not seem as fresh as it should be, considering it's Sunday, I understand. Also had grilled oysters, as good as anywhere!! And of course, had to have some boiled shrimp! Glad we went back and will see them again in Nov for the next home game!!

On my last night here in New Orleans, Louisiana, I found this place next to the Holiday Inn Hotel…read more Even the bartender at the hotel restaurant said this place is awesome. Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop is named after the head chef, I'm assuming. I spotted this place while walking to the Circle K nearby, and thought maybe this place is pretty good. And so, I made dinner plans here for my last evening out of a four-day trip to the New Orleans area. I wanted to eat in my hotel room, so I opted for takeout. I came here on a brisk Wednesday evening after gambling at the Caesars Palace in the French Quarter. The restaurant itself was mildly busy, so it took about 20 minutes from ordering to pick up. I ultimately decided on the combo and po'boy sandwich combo. I also added in the crab cakes, because the menu said it was their best seller. So I opted in and they were pretty good actually. This place is not cheap, so temper your expectations here. The menu is somewhat limited, but they have a lot of stuff for you to choose from. They have a few variations of gumbo at, but I decided to do the traditional gumbo because I guess that's what they're famous for here in the New Orleans area. My time here was brief, but I got a glimpse of what Gumbo is, how great the flavors are, and the taste - which is awesome in itself. I did not know that there can be variations, but you learn every day, it seems. Thanks, Chef Ron Gumbo Stop for being literally around the corner from the Quality Inn hotel property. Definitely made my last evening in New Orleans one of the best ever. Thanks for awesome crab cakes and excellent gumbo! The overall experience here at the Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop restaurant here in Metairie, New Orleans was good and down to earth. The restaurant itself was quite busy and the staff was friendly but split up and doing other things before they got to seeing me standing at the entrance. When they finally saw me standing there lost, I asked for a menu, I decided on the 1/2 po'boy beef sandwich and jumbo combo and added the crab cakes on the side. It was delicious and I was happy that I came here on my last evening in the area. The restaurant itself was like a small mom and pop restaurant, but very likely it's like that and can support maybe 25 customers at a time. The prices here are decent and very competitive with what other Creole Cajun restaurants in the area serve. For the most part, though, it was great that they were definitely in walking distance for me, so I did not have to go outside into the French Quarter or elsewhere to find this place for me to have dinner. The staff was friendly for the most part, but they were just busy because apparently they're popular as hell, so I just had to wait my turn to get attention from them and put in my order on a casual Wednesday evening. Apparently, Wednesday evening is a good night for date night. Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop seems like a mom and pop seafood restaurant, specializing in southern creole cuisine and varieties of gumbo. They're physically located next to the Holiday Inn hotel and the Quality Inn around the corner. Its address is 2309 N Causeway Boulevard, Metairie. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. They don't have much of public parking, but probably could park at the Holiday Inn and walk on over. They do have spots in front of the restaurant, but it's not that much. Best bet is to come here before the lunch or dinner rush and get your stuff here. Or better yet, call the in the order and pick up at your own time and convenience. If you love public transportation, figure out the best local bus routes to come to the area from the airport, the French Quarter, or your original specific location. And of course, there's always uber and lyft ride share to get you here expeditiously if you need them. And so, consider support local businesses is important more than ever. I was happy to be here and enjoy their gumbo and crab cakes. Very flavorful and delicious. A nice ending to my trip to New Orleans. Till next time! 5.0 stars for the overall experience, especially when it was in walking distance from my hotel. Support local! A+

What a waste of money! When I first arrived, I looked around to see if there was a designated area…read morefor to-go orders. I saw a waitress behind the bar area and told her I was there to pick up a to-go order. She just said, "Okay," and walked away to seat another couple. She didn't try to help me, check on my order, or even tell anyone that I was there. I finally asked her if I was standing in the right place, and she said yes. A little later, another waiter came to the hostess station, looked at me, and then she finally told him I was there for a to-go order. The service was bad, but unfortunately, the food was even worse. My gumbo had been sitting under the hostess station, and when I got it, it was COLD and extremely bland. It had more celery than anything else. I honestly don't understand these reviews because either they haven't had good gumbo before or we definitely have very different standards. This was hands down one of the worst gumbos I've ever eaten. I make gumbo waaaaay better than this myself! Definitely a waste of money, and I would not visit here again.

She rant and raved about the soft oyster po-boy. I'm from Texas . My husband grew up in Louisiana and here we are visiting family. I mentioned to my husband about his Aunts visit to Smittys because he LOVES a good po-boy and I for once had it in my brain -the way she ranted about her visit- I thought "Let's see what's going on here". We sat down and were immediately waited on by Carlos. Such a cool guy, attentive, fast, friendly & we notice quickly that he had such a great repor with some of the tables and on some first name basis. That's always a good sign. I wanted what our Aunt had (the oyster po-boy) but I had never had soft shell crab and well there it was in my face on the menu. We decided on two of the 9 inch Po-Boys. One soft-shell crab po-boy and one soft fried oyster po-boy. For the appetizer, we order the mum onion (like a blooming onion). It came out fast, was hot and PERFECTLY fried. Needless to say it was FREAKIN' DELICIOUS. We also shared a bowl of gumbo. Now for this Texas girl- mine is pretty hard to beat. My creole husband always says "I had to go Texas to get real gumbo"and I rarely try any gumbo anywhere-especially if it has okra in it. This gumbo was pretty damn good -EVEN WITH okra in it. Hell-ah props to tha Chef for changing my mind there and with those po-boys. They weren't shy with either the oysters or the softshell crabs. So much we couldn't finish, and that was fine by me. I'm ready for that midnight snack tonight. All around great. We normally hit up The Harbor down the road when we come into town but I think we found our new spot. Thanks Carlos for such a welcoming dinner and the Smittys staff for not disappointing and making our visit a (10) that we will be sharing with others when they ask where to go when they visit.
