After I eat such a good dinner I figured I had better take a walk somewhere to work some of it off. Since I went to Daiso the other night and enjoyed myself, I decided to try and check out the newer of the two stores in San Diego. This one is a little bit bigger and they seem to have more stuff to look at. I would have to say that some of the stuff I found here, the other one did not carry and vice versa. Again, this is one of the cleanest stores you'll ever walk into and I have never seen a place with so many security cameras, it looks almost like Las Vegas. Very helpful staff and again, they just have a lot of great stuff to check out. Daiso is a pretty cool store. They have lots of items starting from around $1.50 up to about $5. The store are mainly Japanese inspired items made in China for fair prices. They have a huge variety of merchandise from utensils such as forks and chopsticks, cooking chopsticks and dinnerware to toys and kitchen accessories. In addition they have beauty products like hair brushes, hair accessories, and make up. They even carry vitamin supplements, candies and snacks. The check out process is simple and fast. Everyone working in the store seemed friendly. They don't have a bathroom and instead instruct you to go next door, but didn't say which place next door. There is ample parking and the store is large and bright. It feels welcoming and they do not rush you around. read more

It's really hard to find unique Asian candies in San Diego. I've gone to many different places including Walmarts located in Asian communities and they usually have some unique treats but never any of the good stuff. I made my way to Daiso and was so excited to see that they had the Hi-Chew flavors I've been looking for. Besides amazing candies there are plenty of other great things to find in this store. Parking was decent but a little tricky to get in and out of. The staff was very helpful and polite. It was really nice to deal with attentive and professional staff. read more

I fell in love with Daiso in Japan. I had no idea there was such a think in California, until one day in LA my friends started asking me if I have been to the Japanese dollar store. Next thing you know it's in San Diego. Love this location, it's big and bright. The lights can be a bit blinding. Recently I visited Daiso on 7.8.17 and I have to say the prices are increased. I mean where are all the $1.50 stuff. It's like I have to constantly watch out if there's a sticker. Everything was much simpler when they first opened as everything was $1.50 but now watch those tags. I mean it's still cheap but sometimes I rather go to 99 cent store. I like coming here for the unique things for cheap, such as sewing and art supplies. Also kitchen stuff, perfect for those who are not used to US Measurements. Lots of useful things if you look around. It's always fun to walk around daiso to see what we can discover. Love this store =). read more

Wow! I had never been in a Daiso before, but now I am in love. As one reviewer said its like a dollar store except most items are $1.50. I easily spent $20.00 on things I didn't need, but all of the items are neat. The store was extremely clean inside. All items are well stocked and organized. They have a great selection of housewares and kitchen items. They have everything from stationary to cleaning supplies, kids toys, apparel items, housewares, gardening items and food items. I even got bluberry cough drops. The employees are very friendly. My son slipped in the store and an employee was there in less than 30 seconds to make sure he was alright. The lines are very long but that may be because they have been opened for such a short time. I will be back to buy more items! read more

Love, love, love this place! This is my second time coming here and it does not disappoint. It's like a huge Japanese toy store/IKEA hybrid. They have tons of Japanese snacks you can't find anywhere else, like the dark chocolate Pocky's, and delicious crunchy crackers I always stock up on (I don't know the name of them because they're only in Japanese). Also if you look hard enough you'll find something you never knew you needed, like a cat-shaped dry mop or little locks for $1.50 that I can use at the gym in case I lose mine and don't want to spend $6 at the NEX. It's hard to get bored here with so many aisles and so many different things they sell for very cheap. If you're waiting on line at Menya Ultra it's a good place to play around while you wait. read more

For most quick inexpensive Japanese goods, this place is a great starting point in your shopping quest, like the 99-cent-only stores or Dollartree. However, unlike those 2 stores, most things are under $2 after sales tax is included, the inventory is simply more unique, and the goods don't seem to have cost as little as they are worth. I attempted to shop for a specific item (a mold for spam musubi). An employee (after checking in the back for it) told me they are sold out of that item, as it is generally a popular item that sells fast. So I ended up buying a collapsable kitchen funnel instead so that my trip here wasn't a complete waste. Parking: At the moment, it isn't a big problem, as there aren't many hot new places that are drawing huge crowds in the plaza. FYI: - All sales are final, and there are no refunds. read more

Wow. I have been looking at the Yelp page here for a minute and finally got a chance to head out here. I came mostly for the snacks, particularly the Ramune soda, the rice candy, and the shrimp chips. I ended up getting more stuff then I planned for and nabbed a car shade, coffee flavored bread, squeezable Kikkoman soy sauce, a reusable Daiso bag, and Pocky sticks. All of that for under $20. Can you say Japanese $1.50 discount store? Most of the items here are about that price range. Some of the stuff I got ran up to $3.00 (the car shade and soy sauce). This is the recommended dollar store, or actually $1.50 store. Fun fact, in Japan the store is actually one dollar per item, but because of import fees it's actually more expensive. That's OK because most of the stuff you find is actually quite high-quality for its price point compared to what you would pay for similar things elsewhere. From houseware, to school supplies, electronic accessories, and even snacks, you'll find something you can use and be happy with. One thing to note is that all sales are final! read more

This is like a Japanese dollar store. Every item is a dollar and 50 cents un less otherwise stated such as 2 for $2. They have house wears such as dishes, beauty, socks and treats. I highly recommend going here before your regular dollar store to see the cool stuff they have. I am a big fan of Japanese snacks so I really enjoy coming here. The store was very clean and organized but my wife went there because she wanted to buy some of the same eye makeup that she had purchased at this same store chain only in Japan. This store had very little supplies for women's makeup compared to the Japan stores. And the staff at this store was not very friendly. Oh, and all sales are final, so you can't return anything either. This place is really cute. It has a lot of unique items. The store is large and it is kept meticulously clean. They had pet section, that had places where they were dishes. They had food items. Everything in the store was $1.50. You should go check it out if you never been here. They have public parking. Go there and find something for you. They have a great selection of hair bands. First. Wear sunglasses. Wait. Wear welder's goggles. The lights in this place are bright enough to be seen from space. Possibly Pluto (which I still think should be a planet). They use LED lights, which is good, otherwise, they'd have an electrical bill big enough to affect the economy. I came here to get two things; A fold-able spoon. A fold-able fork. I didn't come here to get 3 million other quirky, but useful, items that I never knew existed, I needed, wanted or simply coveted. Perhaps it was the simplistic packaging. Perhaps, it was the low prices. Perhaps the lighting affected my vision. It's not clear, but I left with more things than I came for, and was pleased by it. This is the main Daiso store in San Diego, bigger than the one in Mira Mesa and just packed full of great little finds that one expects to find at Daiso! Now, I'm by no means a supporter of gratuitous consumption, even if it is super cute and affordable...so this place is a real temptation for me. I WILL find something I will want to buy on a whim. So mostly I treat it as a place to go to when I'm in the mood for some snacks, something different than the American variety. So you need the stuff here? Are you gonna want it? Duh. The other reason (besides relatives) we drove to San Diego, to visit the old haunts. So many changes to everything not sure if this store moved or just expanded, but what was once a novelty store has blown up big time. Not complaining, though. Found decent deals (but no C.C. Lemon drink?!). 4 out of 5 stars, had to take daughter to tire store 50 feet away for the bathroom...some things never change...bathroom please in the store; put one! Having lived in Japan for 10yrs, this place isn't even close to being similar. I bought 2 items and paid $7.06 but would have paid ¥420 in Japan. I get there being a mark up but their price chart should be updated. It's not a correct conversion rate. Ppl pay bc they don't truly know. Of course if there is something from Daiso that I need to replace & my Japanese friends can't find it for me, I am thankful to at least have the option to possibly find it locally. read more

I've been going to this Japanese general store that is an upgrade version of $1 or 99 cents stores for years. Most things cost $1.50. Today I got a jumbo sunshade for $3, an awesome snowman hat, + a 50 cent light bulb that Home Depot + Lowes would charge $8 or more for here. Previously I got some silicone circles + squares commonly used to hold pots, pans, + things you take out of the hot oven. Instead of using these to hold hot metal, I used these to line the glass racks in my refrigerator. They are usually $3+ each everywhere else while we know how much they are here. Bamboo soap holders I've seen here are fancily packaged for over $10 in the mainstream big box stores. At this point, I'll stop with the endless details of great deals so I can spare everybody from myself going on forever. Get over here, browse, pick what you can use, pay, take it home, make good use of it, + keep coming back every so often to get things to make good use of. read more

I love this Daiso! It's like Japanese mall heaven... Came here because I saw it while driving by a few weeks ago and glad I did because it is one of the biggest daiso's that I have been to! It's very spacious and there is so much things that you could find here for a cheap price and the goods and snacks here are at a very good quality! Everything is normally $1.50. Not unless stated something else. There are so many aisles with different selections. This is basically a Japanese market with clothes, shoes, utensils, home goods, school goods, etc. pretty much a little bit of everything.. I love their cups here and plates.. they have some really kawaii kitchen supplies! I found my sushi roller here for $1.50! What a steal.. I love how they have supplies for present wrapping etc. If you're looking for trays for food they sale 3 sturdy trays for a price of $1.50!! My new go to place for these supplies that I need.. I love how spacious it is and every aisle I walk down I just want to grab a little bit of everything. They have so many different types of Japanese snacks!! My new favorite- Hi-Chews on the go!!! I think once people found out about this place, the lines have grown longer and longer since then. Parking can be a pain to find at normal hours of the days. Daiso is just like Target. I should really start checking Daiso first when I buy something random because there have been a few times I've found something at Daiso only after having overpaid for a worse substitute elsewhere. Doh. You can make out like a bandit in the tool aisle. Daiso has high quality wrenches, hammers, saws, screwdrivers, etc. for $1.50. You can walk out with a tool chest for the price of a single tool anywhere else. Also, this is the place to get good school supplies. Japanese white erasers are seriously magical. This was my first time in a Daiso and I LOVED it! One could easily while 1-2 hours away in here, browsing amongst the substantial collection of home goods they carry. I'm used to shopping at marukai because we have one where I'm from on Oahu. Anyway, my family and I decided to come check out this DAISO Japan and we literally went crazy! I was so happy! Prices from $1.50 seriously you cannot go wrong! We totally stoked up on a bunch of different things. I feel like I bought the whole store lol! Mascara, eyebrow pencils, earbuds, kitchen supplies, just to name a few! And I mean they seriously have great stuff, and it's great quality for the price! I love this store. It reminded me of shopping in little malls in Japan. I had this store bookmarked for a while and finally made it by. I don't know how people can come by here and not buy 40 items like I did. I'm pretty awful. I got this funny collapsible basket and filled it with lots of fun stuff for my son's speech therapist as a Christmas gift. He said she loved it. My son actually bought himself a knockoff Rubik's cube for $1.50 and it became my friend Jenn's obsession to solve it over Christmas. I found a cool egg timer that you drop in the water and it tells you by color which kind of egg you're getting i.e. soft, medium, hard. They have all kinds of things here that you never knew you needed! I could probably spend hours in here, but I think it was good that my kid got hungry and Walter reminded me every 5 minutes that I had a hungry kid haha :-) The line went pretty quick at checkout, and the cashier was friendly. I have been wanting to come here since it opened and we were in the area. I was so excited. This location is much bigger than the location in Mira Mesa. Parking can be difficult in the late afternoon but I managed to find a spot. As we entered, the whole store lit up with bright colors. It is so bright. As I walked in, I saw Halloween stuff. There was make up, snacks, stuff for the house, and so much more. I was interested in the colored eye liners. Those were $1.50 but the Pocky sticks were $1.75. They sell lots of snacks ranging from candy to drinks. I found two eyeliners. One was blue and the other purple. My daughter loves the Pocky sticks. So delicious. I absolutely love this store. When I paid, my total came out to $14.90. They take credit card but you have to purchase up to $10 to use your credit card. I could literally spend that much or more at Daiso. The lady at the register was super nice. If you haven't been here yet, you must visit this awesome place. I could almost buy everything here. Highly recommend if you are in the area. read more

I have been anxiously waiting for this location to open. I work near this new store. Each day, I have been driving by, watching and waiting patiently for them to open. Ok, so i even walked in to the store when they were still in the remodeling phase to open up to get an update on the store and when it would actually open to the public. Sure enough, they told me when they would have their soft opening. And when their actual grand opening is. I was there on their soft opening! And for the next few days after that. I think that I have my Daiso fix for the moment. How can I not stop by!? This store is larger than the one in Mira Mesa and Santa Monica. The aisle seem a lot wider and the selection is bigger. They have more glass wear, toys, make up, snacks. Since this location is new the cashiers are still in training and the line moves a little slow. The parking at the Clairemont Mesa location is limited. On the bright side, you can also grab some tasty foods at some of the restaurants nearby. When I stopped by here it gave me a chance to try some of the restaurants and to look in the shops in the area. Places that I had not taken the time to check out before. I swear that this location is a LOT more convenient than driving up to Mira Mesa, so I am willing to fight the challenge of their parking lot. And the damage that this store will do on my wallet. I tell myself to stick to a $20 limit each time....nope this is not reasonable since I usually spend more than that on stuff that I did not know that I was in dire need of! LOL At this time they do not have their shopping carts. Their Point of Sale machines to use your credit or debit card is upgraded from the ones at the Misa Mesa location. I've never been to any other Japanese $1 stores or to other Daiso locations. So I don't have anything else to compare it or complain about. I really liked the store. Great finds for $1.50. It's pretty well stocked and organized, clean looking and I shopped at ease. I was impressed at the stuff they sell there, and at the quality. You know the saying " you get what you pay for", so far it doesn't apply to anything that I bought here. The little lunch containers I bought are in great shape and come in handy. The pens I purchased are working just fine and my students love the glittery scented pens. I'll have to go back for more, but this can be a dangerous place I tell you!! read more
