I was staying at the YMCA again, and I needed some clothes hangers. I had never heard of this store before, but I found their name when I googled the term "dollar store." I called, and they said that they had them. This place was just down the street. I liked it a lot. The best way to describe it is like a Japanese version of "Dollar General." prices are a little bit more than a dollar, but are very very reasonable. If you need something, there's a good chance they will have it. They have seasonal items, kitchen, wear, cups, dishes, items for the bedroom and bathroom crafting supplies, just a very, very good selection of "this and that. The store is spotless, and everybody was very friendly. I would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you! UPDATE: When I got back to California, I was visiting my sister. Her daughter was visiting from the East Coast, and they mentioned Daiso. I had no idea they were on the mainland, I thought it was just a "Hawaii thing." we went to the local store, and it was just as good as the store that I visited in Hawaii. 12/06/25 First time to this location. I usually go to the Pearl City store but they were out of an item I wanted so decided to check here. This store is located on a very busy corner of Piikoi and Young streets. If you are coming from the west and set your GPS, it will take you east on S King street, turning left on Piikoi, then left into the Daiso parking lot. Do not follow these directions! You cannot make a left turn into the parking lot because they have it chained off and closed. The only entrance to the parking lot is on Young Street. If you turn left on Young from Piikoi, you cannot turn left into the parking lot because there is a huge no left turn sign. I had to go down Young then turn around by Longs. Talk about frustrating. Finally got to the parking lot and saw a couple of open spaces. It is a small lot and spaces are pretty tight. There are signs saying to wait for the attendant as he directs cars. If there are no spaces available at the moment, you sit and wait for the attendant to direct you. Fortunately, I was able to grab one of the last 2 available spaces. From the outside, the store looks small but once you walk in and turn to the right, the aisles stretch the length of the building. The store is well stocked and clean. Somehow in this small space, they manage to not only pack in so many items but seems neater and more organized. I found what I was looking for which were silicone covers for bowls. The cashier that helped me was very nice and friendly and she did confirm that this location is smaller than the Pearl City store. Overall, I had a good experience here except for entering the parking lot. Best thing for next time if coming from the west, instead of coming down S. King St, come down Young St heading east and then turn right into the parking lot. read more

My husband visited this store recently while in town, traveling for work. He said the store was large, well kept, with a huge assortment. He did say that parking was not the best, however. He was able to find some unique and interesting items that he probably would not have found at a store similar to this, back home. Everything is priced very reasonably for what you get. Went in to grab some hair clips since I lost the one I bought in Daiso Japan. The clips from Japan were way better quality than other clips I've tried elsewhere, and still affordable. I got lucky finding the same style here--price was just a bit higher than in Japan, which makes sense. The parking lot is small and the spots are arranged a little oddly, but I found a space right away. Inside, you turn the corner and the store is actually bigger than it looks. It does not have as much as the Japan versions of the store, but it had what I was looking for. Definitely a good spot if you want quality stuff without breaking the bank. Anyone who has visited Japan will undoubtedly visit Daiso. They have a varied amount of products for sale, even Japanese goodies to eat. Some of the stores are multi-story and quite extensive. Here in Hawaii there is a Daiso store in Honolulu and a larger one in Pearl City. Neither are as big as anything in Japan bit they have a nice selection of goods, knick knacks, most quite useful, all fun peruse. They kind of remind me of the old variety stores that used to dot Hawaii, like Ben Franklin, Woolworths and Kress. The town, Piikoi location in Honolulu is central for us townies and is great to check out. Parking can be an issue as it can get crowded. There is a parking attendant to help with the traffic. The sales associates are friendly and helpful and pretty knowledgable about the location of their many offerings. Check out the gadgets that could be useful. I just love that Daiso is located on the corner of Piikoi and Young Street. The entrance of the parking lot is on Young Street before hitting Piikoi. It's a small lot but you can wait on Young Street and the attendant will let you in once spaces open up! You usually do Not have to wait long as there are 3 standby spaces in the lot. Plus, people seemed to shop quickly! Don't forget your own bags! I try to shop regularly as you never know when new merchandise comes in?! You don't want to miss out on anything especially if you see it Now, you need to buy it then cause it may not be there next time you go!! So I went on Thursday and saw these cute blue and yellow vases with this inscription: "Smiling brings happiness! It's a beautiful day and I have a feeling that something wonderful will happen." Went back Friday morning and bought all of them for only $1.75 each! What a deal! Even Faye the cashier (#6986) thought so. She is so nice, friendly and personable! She is amazing because she even went to check in store room if there were more?! Low and behold, she brought 2 boxes full with 10 each ( 5 blue & 5 yellow) Perfect!! Blake, is also amazing! He patiently packed the ones on the shelf with bubble wrap!! He told me that he purchased sake cups for his wedding favors! Now, what guy cares about wedding favors?! I was familiar with Daiso in Japan, but this was my first visit to Daiso here on the island. Turning left into the parking lot from Piikoi side of Young St. was not allowed and the lot was full at the time, but the attendant navigated all the cars waiting, so it was well organized. The store was not that big and I couldn't find what I was looking for, but they had decent selections and many people would probably find this place useful. As for the price, it was more expensive than the one in Japan. However, it was still cheap compared to other stores here. Definitely worth checking out. read more

I've been coming to this location for the past 3 years and I've always loved it. The employees are always friendly and helpful, and whenever I come in they ask how I've been and it's so nice. However, recently the aisle layout of the entire store changed drastically, and it's completely changed the experience for the worse. Instead of aisles being shorter but more navigable, the main area is dominated by long narrow aisles that barely have enough room to get by another customer, and are completely impassable if there's a stocking cart or customer with a mobility aid (wheelchair, walker, etc). The amount of products stocked doesn't seem to have increased as a result, so I'm not sure why this decision was made. If it wasn't mandated from corporate, please change it back!! I miss looking forward to shopping here :( read more

Daiso has raised their prices to a point where most shoppers are not buying as much as before! I was shocked to see so many basket available at the front entrance of their store! I used to buy these glass tubes for plants (hydroponics) for $1.50 then 1.75 now $4.00? I google searched online and found Temu and a few other online stores were at $1.75 or less with free delivery! I decided to go thru the check out to pay for two vases only to find out that what was once $2.25 was now $6.50 each!!! I also noticed that no one in front of me had shopping baskets filled??? I also noticed that there were more staff putting back items that customers decided not to buy vs. staff refilling or putting out more new merchandise! I hope Daiso can sustain the challenging tariffs, but it looks like what the old "PRICE BUSTERS" went through, and eventually CLOSING THEIR BUSINESS! read more

Going to Daiso is a little treat I give myself when I have some time and I'm so glad there is one now in Honolulu. I never park in the parking lot but go during the day and park on the left side of Piikoi Street on metered street parking. I always find a bag full of things that call out to me: little sauce dishes, small handcloths, washi tape, tablets, cooking tools I may never use. The best part is that when Ieave I usually have not spent more than $20! Of course the inventory always changes (and they carry different things than the Daiso in Seattle across from Uwaijimaya that I tend to frequent) but then that's the joy of browsing the aisles. read more

Our day trip to Oahu included a stop here, which was a first for me. Friend who was driving said "There's no food there!" as she knows me so well. I said "That's okay, I'm curious to see what's inside." PARKING: While their tiny parking lot is a problem, it really isn't as there's a pay lot just across the street ($1 for 2-hours). But, the majority of shoppers make it an even bigger problem as they'll wait for a stall to open, engines idling, unnecessarily polluting the air and causing a line of cars to overflow onto the street. They even employ a parking lot attendant. I guess if you're shopping at a dollar store you'd want free parking? I just can't! LOL. THE STORE: It's not a big footprint to begin with. Narrow aisles + no crowd control = an unpleasant shopping experience. It's a good thing they don't have shopping carts as you're already weaving through trying not to bump and grind with total strangers; unless you're into that... The inventory is overwhelming. It's really a clusterf*** of goods ranging from kitchenware to crafting to office supplies and everything in between, and yup, no foods except for some chips and candies near the registers. I did check out their selection of miso soup bowls which had some weight to them and felt of high quality. I have something similar at home but they're old and the inner lacquer lining isn't holding up well in the dishwasher. I mentioned to my friend after the fact that there were no prices listed. Daiso on Piikoi Street is very clean, organized, bright lighting, friendly helpful employees, and has a diversity of items in various departments. The aisles have signs above them for easier finding of items. Although they have small amounts of various items, there's still alot to browse through. Prices are reasonable which matches the quality of the items. They have price signs on the walls to explain their pricing. I take a picture of it and refer to it when need to convert the yen to US dollars. If there are no pricing on an item, it's $1.75. You can plan to go in there for a couple items but end up buying more because they're cute, cheap, or a must-have. At the entrance of the store, there are bottles of hand sanitizer for customers and masks are required. There is free parking but the lot is not too big so there might be a short wait. Truthfully when I do get a chance to come here, I am not looking for anything in particular, I just come here to look for unreal DEALAGES!!! Daiso sells an array of nick knacks like - household products, stationaries, gardening stuff, snacks & drinks, automobile items, hardware items, kitchen items, electronic accessories, office supplies, and even small toys. I can probably go on & on about this place, but truthfully Daiso sells many types of items in this store, and it's really hard to remember. I guess you will have come down to Daiso to and see for yourself, to know what this store is all about. There is free parking available in front of the store, but unfortunately the parking lot is tiny, therefore getting a parking space is a premium. Super bummed that I couldn't go to Japan so I googled Japanese stores and found this downtown Honolulu Daiso Store. It's a franchise store that is headquartered in Japan. It specializes in inexpensive imported items. Most items cost $1.50 each or marked accordingly. This location is on the corner of Piikoi street and Young Street. There is a small parking lot dedicated specifically for the store with a parking attendant that monitors it. We actually parked across the street. Probably best if you wait to park in their lot. It was a little sketchy near the 7 Eleven store. So much fun going through each aisle and looking at all the cool and mostly unnecessary stuff. I found some fun things. Totally cheered me up and I only spent $10 ....a lot cheaper than flying and quarantining for 14 days in Japan. read more

Asides that who doesn't already know about Daiso! Cute items and maybe things I don't even need for $1.50 or marked prices. Anything range from garden tool to hair ties to notebooks. Even has snacks and holiday items. Disney items are a hit, like the mickey rice scooper was a big hit when they first open, now they have variety of items with disney like lanyards, reusable bags, notebooks, planners, clipboard, etc. I buy disney laundry bags everytime I went because it's great to wash not only delicates but plush dolls, pillows, yarn, etc. but they have raised the price to $3-$4 and not $1.50 as when I used to pay. Good thing I bought a bunch before the price hike. It really has all kinds of stuff, you have to be patient and look at everything which can be overwhelming and easy to over spend. Make sure when you see an item you like to get it because the next time you go it may not be there. You never know what's in stock. Located up the road from Ala Moana (turn right down Pensacola and left on Pi'ikoi), Daiso is a small shop with a lot of value to offer. In terms of parking, there's a dedicated lot with an attendant there to manage the traffic (parking is free), but it can be tight. Street parking is also available. Once inside, you'll find a range of goods at prices beyond reasonable. I could try to list all the categories but it's pretty impossible. Garden tools? Yep. Stationary? Of course. Kitchen goods? Plenty. A selection of American and Japanese treats? Yes! Actually, that's probably the area I'd like more of. Prices are marked on the packages and conversion charts are on every aisle. They're exactly like the ones you'd get at the Japanese Daiso - good quality and most were about $1.50-$2. Workers don't really approach you to see if you need help with anything, and some may take this as a sign of neglect, but as an introvert, I love it lol This Daiso is located on the corner of Piikoi & Young, across from Zippy's/Hakuyosha. Every once in a while I like to see what Daiso has to offer. My friend posted her haul of a million Disney items from Daiso, so when I got the chance, I went for it! I pretty much shopped for anything and everything that was pink and cute in there. A dried laver stamp...is a seaweed stamp. Pretty cute to decorate on your own bento. Not sure when I have the time for it but one day it'll come in handy. I can't get enough of shaped ice trays! Seems to be what I've been collecting lately. A Minnie make up brush and pink hair brushes, I'm obsessed! And honestly, this one brushes through my long hair smoothly. The peach and lychee gummy candy is super yummy! Shoutout to one of the security guards. He was really sweet. He allowed me to stay in the parking lot until Kupuna hours was finished and then knocked on my window when it was time to go in. We came to Daiso after hearing it was a good place to find some cheap souvenirs and a wide assortment of a ton of other things! We wanted to see if we could find a lunch-bag, chopsticks, and anything else. We thought about parking in the parking lot out front but it was full - there was even a lot attendant! We had to park in another parking lot but there's plenty of parking around, you may just have to be creative. The parking lot has a roped off area to provide some safety while walking to the front doors since there's no sidewalk. Once you walk in through the doors, the store seems small, but just turn to your right and it all opens up. The aisles are wide, clean, organized, and well signed. What a cool place to peruse. Consider this to be the Japanese version of our 99 cent store on the mainland. This makes me miss the Pricebusters we used to have right by my workplace in Hawaii Kai. You can find something for everyone at Daiso. They have bath, kitchen, even a pet department of goodies. And since the holidays are just around the corner, the first aisles by the registers are stocked with all things Christmas. Location is on Young Street between Piikoi and Pensacola. To get there, best to head down Pensacola and make a left on Young. Daiso will be at the end of the block on your right. Parking is limited and usually full from the constant flow of customers. My advice is to wait at the beginning of the lot until a customer comes out. This allows motorists to get out of their stalls without causing unnecessary wait time. The parking attendant is very friendly and will let you know where the next stall has opened up. Daiso - Japan version of 99 cent store - Discount Store Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

I was never much of a fan when it came to these type of "dollar stores" when I lived in Japan or visited my friends in SoCal. Or, when Marukai had a similar 99 cents store in the Ward area you didn't see me making my way here when they were in business. There was so much talk when Daiso, a major Japanese chain store that is known for their 100 yen merchandise, first opened a Hawaii store at Pearl City in December 2018. I heard stories where people stood in lines outside just to be allowed to enter the store to control foot traffic. Why would people make such a big fuss looking to buy household items, stationary and snacks? The cost of merchandise is primarily $1.50 each with "premium" items at higher prices. I don't see the value in making my way over to Pearl City. But then Daiso opened its second store in the Honolulu area on the corner of Piikoi St. and Young St. back in March 2019. I still didn't budge. Once again, I heard stories where people have a hard time trying to park here as the parking lot isn't that large. People also stood in line waiting for their turn to enter the store. But after 6 months of the opening of this Daiso, I finally gave in. But it wasn't my first choice destination. I was in Chinatown looking for some odds and ends. I couldn't find a pair of chopsticks for me to use at work. I feel bad to keep on using disposable chopsticks to use for lunch. I wanted to be environment friendly. In Chinatown they have generic, recyclable chopstick family packs that are economical but I just wanted ONE pair, not 10 pairs. Regardless they were only $3.50 for 10 pairs, I passed. I found a store that sold previously used chopsticks for $1 per pair. I noticed some of them were "warped" with a weird bent so I also passed. As I drove away Chinatown disappointed, I noticed a friend had checked into this Daiso and decided to make my way here. When I first arrived, the parking lot was FULL so I drove on. I decided to pull into Zippy's parking lot to turn around. I noticed several cars exiting Daiso so I made my way back and this time I was able to drive in. Great timing. When entering the store, I noticed considerably more female than male shoppers, hands down. Many were browsing through aisles holding baskets filled with all sorts of merchandise. But I was on a mission: chopsticks. While looking for them, I accidently bumped into good friends who I haven't seen in over 2 years. We exchanged a few words before walking away. I finally found what I came for: chopsticks. They also had packs of 4 pairs and several that were sold by the pair. I had wanted the ones with a chopstick case but none to be found. As I was debating what to get, a friendly female staff came over to recommend the 6-sided (hexagon) chopsticks that are often used by cooks. It came along with a matching spoon. Items are made in Japan. The set was $1.50. The staff and I both noticed that was the last pair on the shelf. SOLD. As I walked proudly to the cashier, I realized I also needed shoe glue for a pair of super comfortable shoes that I'm not willing to toss, yet. And guess what? I found a multi-purpose glue for also $1.50. This can get dangerous if I hang around longer at Daiso so I decided to check out. I make my way over to the cashier and bump into the snacks corner. DANGEROUS. I saw so many things I haven't eaten in a long time. I wanted to buy ALL. But luckily, I had self control that time. I decided to compromise with 2 bags of Calbee potato chips, but these were $2 per bag. No biggie. I stood in what seemed to be a long line but it sure moved fast. I looked up to see about 5 cashiers checking people out. It didn't take long for my turn. I paid, carried away my merchandise and walked back to my car. Overall, a very satisfied experience as I walked away with what I've been wanting to get. Plus extra. And it didn't break the bank. I'll be back. read more
