It was around 9pm on a Saturday night, a childhood friend and I were driving up the 5 freeway and decided to pull off to exit to get Orange Julius. We were shocked to see a line out the door! Who knew the DQ is the place to be on a Saturday night in Tustin? When we got up to the register we asked the employee if they're always that busy and he said yes, so props to these employees for handling the volume of customers and congrats to whoever owns this franchise location. Everything on the menu looked tempting but we stuck to trying the regular Orange Julius. The price seemed a bit stiff at over $6 for a small but I was willing to pay anything to get a taste of that nostalgic frothy Orange Julius from my childhood. When we saw the employee pouring out a whiteish icy substance into our cups out of a blender our faces scrunched up. What we were served was NOT the OG frothy Orange Julius we were expecting AT ALL! The consistency was all wrong. The original Orange Julius was liquidy & frothy and one could drink by sipping it out of the side of the cup. Whatever the concoction was that is being passed off as the Orange Julius here required a straw. Booooo! It was such a disappointment I wanted to immediately throw the drink away in the trash can outside. read more

They used to have a fair number of Dairy Queen locations but most have closed in the past 10 years or so. Therefore a blizzard is something of a rare treat for me now. I've been dieting and trying to lose a few pounds so a blizzard was definitely sabotaging my efforts but it was worth it. Dairy Queen is still one of the best spots for a quick sweet treat. We stopped by on Friday night and somehow beat the rush. The line was running out the door by the time we left. This is a treat location, so more ice cream than food although there are a few snacks to choose from (hot dogs, pretzel bites). I got the cherry dipped cone and it was the perfect nostalgic treat to satisfy my sweet tooth. My husband enjoyed his banana split. They both came out within a few minutes, it was very efficient. It is a small restaurant with 3 tables that seat 4 people at each. There is also plenty of outdoor seating. I personally love the old school mocha chip blizzard. Staff never know how to make it. However, there is a new caramel java chip blizzard. Order that and ask for it without the caramel. Personally, I don't like the small crispy treat balls in it either. Next time I'll order it without. Dairy Queen is a global franchise that has been around since 1940, but I can honestly say that I've never been to one until recently. Home to the Blizzard, DQ also serves up an assortment of other sweet treats, cakes, sandwiches, hot dogs, snacks and sides. In search of something to satisfy our sweet tooth on a rainy day when my daughter also had the day off school, we dropped into DQ at Tustin Marketplace. Their classic cone comes in 3 different sizes and guests can choose between vanilla, chocolate or a chocolate vanilla swirl. We ordered two of the swirl cones in the medium size and quickly discovered their ice cream is soft serve. My daughter was not a fan of their cone, and I honestly thought it would cost less but each cone ran almost $5. At that price, I'd rather go get a sundae at Mickey D's. Service was adequate considering we were the only customers. I support small business but there is quite a bit of competition in this space (there's literally a Handel's across Jamboree Road), so I wish the owners luck with this biz. read more

Came to DQ and purchased 4 orders of ice cream. My two toddlers needed the restroom and when I asked for a Key they said the restroom was closed with no explanation. As an operating business, there should be no reason for the restroom to be closed. For a mother this was so inconvenient to have to go store to store to look for a restroom where every store denied me. Sometimes you want to revisit flavors and things that remind you of when you were younger. Dairy Queen was much more popular when I was younger than it is right now I believe. So walking in I just wanted to get a small sized blizzard just for the sakes of it in a hot night. With many new flavor on the menu, I asked what was the most popular flavor and the cashier just shrugged suggesting she had no idea. Great help! So I went with Oreo. The blizzard was made really fast and I looked at it and just the presentation was horrible. They don't even top it off and give a swirl like the pictures with some Oreo cookies. I got a mini heath blizzard and tried the new sugar cookie blizzard. The heath blizzard had delicious and crunchy toffee pieces. The mini blizzards are about $5 which seems a tad pricey for me but it was good so not a problem. The sugar cookie blizzard was not bad either but I would say that it's more suited for a kid's tastebuds. Workers there were really nice and helped us out with suggestions since I hadn't gone there in a while. They have a good selection of flavors so anyone can find something they like. 3 WORDS! ICE CREAM CAKE There aren't many options when it comes to this delectable dessert that combines 2 guilty pleasures in one but I assure you very few do it better than DQ. We're talking a 70/30 ratio of ice cream to cake...YES you heard that right, 70% ice cream to 30% cake/cream ratio. The issue with Baskin Robbins is there's so much cream and cake that you might as well buy a regular cake and put a scoop of ice cream on it. Frozen cake is no bueno even if you're advised to place it at room temperature prior to serving. Then you get mooshy ice cream and semi-frozen cake. Coldstone's charges a premium $$$ for a product I believe is inferior to DQ. The chocolate was an overload of deliciousness...some might say a bit much. So much so I couldn't even finish a slice. The only complaint is there aren't a lot of locations that have the cakes as most are in malls that serve your standard blizzards, sundaes, dip cones etc. Make sure they flip that blizzard upside down and if you're craving a chocolate dipped cone they are one of the few places (Mcdonald's got rid of the dipped cone because the workers were wasting more napkins wrapping the cone than the price of the cone) left serving them. read more
