The person at the counter could not have been more rude. Whoever is training employees here needs to try again it was the most rude interaction I have ever had at a fast food place in my life. They consistently rushed us and kept making hand gestures to basically hustle up when we were ordering. He was also wearing a half zipped up hoodie nothing but a wife beater on underneath. Zero respect and professionalism. I've never had to hold myself back from jumping over a counter and punching someone in the face so much in my life. Over many years Montvale has morphed from quaint farming village to suburban office theme park while this ice creamy icon on Chestnut Ridge has remained defiantly original. Menu items are not rotated here on edicts from the home office - If they sell, they stay indefinitely and if they suck, they're gone with the wind. Always has a line no matter the season nor the weather! They keep it simple, CASH only, and a great place for the local to hang out after a game. Predominantly run by teenagers, it's been around forever and has never renovated or updated to our surprise...and still does so well. Nothing spectacular here about the quality of their ice cream, but it's a staple in this community and a place to hang out since this is the closest that locals will have to a Main Street and for socialization. One of the best dairy queens ever. I love the old school 50s theme and it makes it very unique in comparison to most other dairy queens. The soft serve ice cream is extra creamy here and perfect any day of the year. (I have gotten a blizzard while it's snowing heavily before). They close if it's especially cold now, so pay attention to the temperature, but it's a lot of fun and has been a great pastime for my friends and I over the years. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating which is great because you'll never feel cramped while your ice cream drips on your hand. The lines outside can get pretty long, but the service is great. Both times asked for it a little thinner than normal. First time I was handed shake I couldn't suck through the straw. At all. A childhood staple - this is no ordinary Dairy Queen. It is DQ. Anyone from the area will tell you they are going to DQ for ice cream - not Dairy Queen. This DQ is original - and they have the pictures to prove it. Not to mention it employs local high schoolers and has for at least 2 decades. The owner, Coach Walt Stall (spelling may be wrong) was the best line coach in NJ too! I know from experience. Go Green Knights! No one around can compare either... Carvel... Nope. Friendly's... Nope. McDonald's McFlurry... Nope. Wendy's shake.... Nope. Now there are only 2 negatives to this place... 1. In the summers the lines can be tremendous but you typically don't have to wait longer than 10 - 15 minutes max. 2. Prices. They are not cheap. I quick trip to A&P or shop rite will yield 5-6 times the amount of ice cream for the same price. BUT, it is NOT Dairly Queen. Not by a long shot. RECOMMENDATION: Chocolate soft serve with Choc Sprinkles. And for all the fatties (like me) - get a large cone - they will pile the ice cream so high your head will spin!! read more

This place has been around forever and I love the new Royal Blizzards they have introduced. For those who don't understand what those are, they take your regular Sundae and fill it up with fudge! The service is usually very quick and if they make a mistake they've even given me the ice cream for free before. Definitely on the places you need to visit when you're close by. DQ is my ultimate favorite ice-cream place around. Let me talk about the blizzards. The menu is made for every kind of taste - "candy cravers" - cappuccino heath, m&ms, snickers, etc... "chocoholics" - georgia mud fudge, midnight truffle, mocha chip, etc... "cookie lovers" - mint oreo, oreo cheesecake, oreo cookie jar, cookie dough, double fudge cookie dough "fruit fans" - choco cherry love, chocolate covered strawberry, hawaiian, raspberry truffle, strawberry cheesecake, banana cream pie, banana split I'm a huge chocolate lover and oreo lover, so anything with those two, or a combination of the two works for me. DQ actually has mini blizzards now - so no need to overdo it. If you aren't in the mood for a blizzard, the regular ice-cream cones are good too. All of the ice-cream is soft- serve, smooth and sweet! If I wasn't in the mood for a blizzard, I would probably get a chocolate cone with chocolate dip, although you need to eat it fast before it breaks and melts all over your hand. My dad was always a fan of their milkshakes - chocolate and strawberry. If you haven't been to a DQ, search for one around your area, it's well worth it! read more

The cachet of this particular Dairy Queen is that its one of the old school drive-in ones from the fifties. Nobody's going to come out on roller skates and take your order; but they used to. This place is always packed, but they've got up to six people taking orders through the tiny windows so don't be intimidated by long lines. Also, do not confuse their soft serve ice cream with the chalky dairy substitute served at other establishments. These people INVENTED soft serve ice cream. This stuff is wonderful. read more
